Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info
No.
Glad someone asked it and the answer is no. I was thinking about doing the same thing. Maybe once I get to a stopping point and play a few other games, I'll go back to Fallout 3 and play it.
Killing them is actually a good thing, I believe. I think it gives Good Karma.
Crap! I forgot about the prison, I will go and kill all of them after getting the NCR uniform (thanks for that info) and maybe then the NCR will like me, 1st time I went in there I was dressed like them and they didn't attack....now it's on!!!

Thanks again, I'll let ya know the outcome.

So, the achievement for getting banned from the casinos ended up going quicker than I thought it would. With high enough luck, you almost always get great hands in blackjack. I only had an 8, and I was winning like 80% of the time. If you're looking to improve your luck, don't forget you can get an implant for it (along with other traits) at the New Vegas clinic. Also, put on the naughty nightwear for another +1.

I'm up to the final stretch now, and I see what people were talking about as per I discussion about quest structure before. Talk to these people. Report back. Talk to these people. Report back. Oh, boy...

Yeah getting banned wasn't too hard, I had a base luck of 7 getting +1 from the naughty nightwear makes 8. Blackjack is easily the way to go. Two words, people: double down.

Had my first major glitch or whatever you wanna call it. Fianlly got around to getting Raul as a follower, and can't get his missions to start because I got Ranger Andy to teach me his special move at the beginning of the game with Boone as my companion. Sucks that I can't run those, and it's going to bug me to no end.

Any word on a fix for that coming? (Still playing without downloading the original update)

IT WORKED!!!!!!! I'm liked again whoo hoo! *insert Snoopy Dance*

I am about 20 hours in and I really have just been straying around doing side quests, I think the main line I am on one of the house wins quests, so I dont know how far left I have to go, but there is still so much stuff I havent seen on the map.

My only complaint is I am sick of the music. I am now singing "Texas Red" as I go to sleep shower and all day at work.. Why they couldn't add a few hours of music instead of the lousy 45 minutes or so they did is beyond me. I hate to turn the radio off too because I like hearing the talking between songs. I wish the 360 had a way to patch your own music in or something.

ok the song is called Big Iron lol, I never payed attention, but now I am watching videos of Marty Robbins sing it on You tube

With 75 hours in now, the music is driving me crazy as well. I have no idea why they chose such few songs. I wouldn't even say they have 25 minutes worth.

The music got old fast for me too. I liked the music in FO3 much better.

My wife was cracking up the other day cos we were in the Kitchen making dinner and I was singing without even knowing it.

'I got spurs, that jingle jangle jingle...'

I do love the Johhny Guitar song. Kinda reminds me of Portishead a little bit.

Yeah more music would be nice and Johnny Guitar is haunting (that's a good thing)

Yeah, Johnny Guitar is easily my favorite in this. The vibe of the song fits the game really well. Like the above poster said, haunting. I also enjoy Big Iron. So I have found myself putting together a playlist of songs from Fallout 3, along with Johnny Guitar and Big Iron, and listening to that while I play.

I eventually turned the radio off entirely. I actually liked it quiet, with the occasional swell of the "dramatic" music. Also, I found myself turning off other people's radios in game. Heh.

How did you make a playlist?

I did the same thing myself. There are some surprisingly good ambient sounds in game.

Oh, I just meant I put something together on my computer and listened to that during the game.

Oh ok...thanx

yes I have finally given up and turned the radio off, and also are turning off radios in towns too lol. damn you Big Iron... I liked you... I really did... jingle jangle too.. I cannot take you anymore

I ignore the radio most of the time.

I didn't realize that I could
kill all of the Legion, except for Caesar and keep his mission
. So I just kept the Yes Man and NCR paths alive.

I never even did the Ceaser quest, I wanted to do the optional bunker quest for the securitrons and even though Ceaser invited me to the camp, I was still KOS, took me hours of opening the door and going back and forth to kill all the Legion troops so I could run to the bunker. Plus Boone died a few times and I tried to start over. I also made the mistake of walking into Ceasers main tent and they come out to attack you if you leave. Had to reload a save and do it all over since it kept reloading outside the tent and I couldnt run to the gate without dieing. damn the bugs in this game, but its still fun !

well the NCR hate me again.....no idea what I did, but they said I have 3 days for me to gain their respect again....3 days!!!!! Sounds like I may have to get the Legion to like me now....sigh

Same thing happened to me. I killed some of their rangers. Got on a little bit better standing with the NCR and about 4 days later one of them shows up in my room and says that things are cool between me and the NCR. heh.

I hadn't either. Found it funny that it took me doing the thing in my spoiler to fail the quest. Luckily, I have a few saves prior to doing what I did. Hopefully reloading them and leaving the Fort Helps me. If not, oh well, I might start a hardcore playthrough when the DLC arrives.

Does it matter what difficulty I play Hardcore mode on to get the achievement?

Forgot that the difficulty carries over between files.

A few hours in and pretty much avoiding all confrontation so I never knew it was on "Normal" (not V.Hard) until it took a Deathclaw 4 hits to kill me. Luckily I'm not that far from where I started if I have to start over.

Just had my first hard system freeze. Finally got around to going to the strip. Go towards Lucky 38 and BAM hard system freeze.

Ugh.

I didn't go through the entire thread, but has anyone discussed the preorder DLC?

I'm guessing that the Amazon bits are the best, really for the canteen that reduces your dehydration automatically, which is nice for those of use playing in hardcore mode. I like the repair kits. A few weapons or stimpacks will only help for a short time.

Also, I'm wondering if I'll be able to kick deathclaw ass once I level up to 20+ and get better weapons. I remember in 3 I was able to kill deathclaws, but I'd mostly save afterwards. Man, I remember hating those albino radscorpions.

Yeah, looking at all the packs, the only that does stand out is that canteen, which as you alluded to is only really useful for hardcore players. Everything else is pretty much worthless, because you'll replace it eventually.

And even then, just how vital is the canteen? I mean, you've got hundreds of water sources in the game. Granted some have rad poisoning, but still.

Don't bring Boone with you next time. He's NCR and thats who they were attacking on sight, not you. This happened to me when Ceasar invited me. I had to reload a save and leave Boone behind, then I was not attacked.

How do you dismiss a partner? Just tell them to "wait here", or what?

I am getting ED-E
fixed up right now by the followers, and now I have the King's dog as a sidekick. I'm about to complete the quest where you give him a new brain, but I hear that I shouldn't do that before completing all the other King's quests due to some sort of glitch...

Choose to talk to them, and there will be option to part ways or terminate or whatever. Telling them to wait somewhere does not stop them from being your companion. You will still have their companion perk, and oddly enough, people will often comment on them, even if they are halfway across the map.

I just met King today, so far I like him......his dog is interesting.

Oh hey, how do you hire a whore from that place in Freeside.....electric something, I got a room and she told me the rules, but I couldn't find any women except for the dealer and the girl at the front desk.
"My legs are numb"

You have to do a side to get them some whores then you can hire them.
Thanks

God damn the strip is annoying to navigate.

Anyway, I am close to the end game now after taking a break for COD, I got the point where I am forgive by all and they all want me to come see them. How does this work? Can I go see all of them and then make a decision or as soon as I go to one the game thinks that is my decision.

Also, what happens when you ignore the other family's on the strip when talking to yes man? I must of clicked this without knowing because now that is my only option (including the brotherhood) and I could find out anywhere what exactly happened.

DLC news...

November 17, 2010 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that Dead Money, the first downloadable content for Fallout®: New Vegas™, will be available exclusively on Xbox LIVE® for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft beginning December 21, 2010.

“We’re pleased to give fans a chance to expand their experience in Fallout: New Vegas this December with Dead Money,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “The release of Dead Money illustrates our commitment to creating entertaining add-on content for players to enjoy in already massive games like Fallout: New Vegas.”

As the victim of a raw deal you must work alongside three other captured wastelanders to recover the legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino. In Dead Money, your life hangs in the balance as you face new terrain, foes, and choices. It is up to you how you play your cards in the quest to survive.

I'm wondering if they will increase the level cap (say by 2 or 3) with the DLC and introduce some new perks along with it. But, hey, the more DLC the better.

I'm nearly level 30 and done with the game at about 52 hours of gameplay. I could really be doing more in the game, but I need to beat this and a few other games before Cataclysm.

Also, I felt like such a dick when
I helped the Brotherhood of Steel then proceeded to blow up their bunk!

Yeah, kinda shady that they are releasing DLC info without patch info with it. Aside from some crazy moments my game has been glitch free but their are too many people who ran into game breaking glitches to give them a pass.

Shady isn't exactly the appropriate word, but I know what you're saying. I think, though, that they have said numerous times that they are working on a patch. Considering all of the glitches people have run into, it's not a surprise this second patch is taking a long time.
They need to worry about fixing the game instead of making a money grab with DLC.
The DLC was likely nearly finished by the time the game came out. Different teams work on such things. You cannot expect them to put a nearly finished product on the back burner, especially not with the nature of DLC, which is most profitable the closer you can release it to when the game came out. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

So what's in the DLC anyway?

Meh googled it, Seems like they are going to try to do the every 2 months after release do a new episode thing Fallout 3 did.

Game of The Year Edition anyone?

All I know is that I have barely played this lately and haven't even beat the game, yet. I got through nearly 2 playthroughs, including all of the DLC, before I got bored with Fallout 3. I don't even know if I will bother with the DLC at first, unless it gets really great reviews. Hopefully, they can avoid putting up some of the duds that Bethesda did with the FO3 DLC.

Just be sure to check gamerankings.com (or metacritic) during Christmas week. That's what I'll be doing before deciding on additional content. I don't even have the retail game yet, but whatever.

The key for quality Fallout DLC is to stay true to what makes Fallout great: exploration, looting, and making choices. Most of the Fallout 3 DLC lacked these characteristics, and they were not nearly as enjoyable as the main game. Point Lookout was the clear exception. That I enjoyed greatly, and I would love to see a future Fallout game and/or DLC set in a similar location. Exploring the woods at night was a creepy sensation.
