As I picked up my 360 at FS this morning, I noticed this on the EMPLOYEE GETAWAY...the video game trading program is coming 09/15 IT'S A NATION-WIDE ROLLOUT!

you get credit on a card..dunno if its TAX FREE like EB games....NOT!

Trade in Credit can be used on services AND ALL MERCHANDISE! Ipods...macs...ps3...whatever!

FS's formula for trade value:

USED price:
Divided by 2
Minus 10%
=Trade value!!!!

Example:
Mario Galaxy USED 39.99
Divided by 2 =$20!
Minus 10%
Final Value=$18

This is the formula for ALL GAMES! It can be mario galaxy and trade in at the same price as Horsez 3

All Gamecube and XBOX GAMES ARE EXCLUDED!!!

All SPORTS games MUST BE THIS year's OR LAST year's versions.
NO 07 & Prior games accepted!

Tried to trade in Stranglehold last night at FS in Waterloo, it showed up as $13.20 on the web-based system but $3.60 on the POS terminal. The guy seemed to know what he was doing and said he couldn't change it on the POS terminal, so I'm still stuck with the game :(

Also saw a small selection of used games for sale.. mostly newer titles with relatively high prices. Didn't seem like they were pushing trading in games either, I didn't see any signs at all and wouldn't have known other than reading about it here.

The Future Shop in Waterloo was the first one I went to, they weren't bad with handling the trade in. You're right though, no marketing or in-store advertising of the new trade in program whatsoever. I've also been to the Kitchener/Cambridge ones, same deal. I'm not sure how they expect people to know that they've even begun this program.
No stores in Winnipeg are doing it thanks to that by-law. I've been told unless the government does something to change it, it simply will not happen here. I'm rather curious to know how this is affecting blockbuster. I can only assume they have probably stopped taking trades as well.
I traded in 4 blu-ray titles and a PS3 game yesterday and gave me credit. They don't seem to be affected... yet.

What did you get for the blu ray movies?
What did you get for the blu ray movies?
$10 each for Swordfish, SWAT, and Flight of the Phoenix, and $8.50 for American Psycho. BBV seems to buy games and blu-ray titles for 1/2 the price of what they sell for used (example: Stranglehold PS3 I got $10, where they sell it for 20. Or every blu-ray title they sell is $20 used. I think that is pretty regular, though)... well for some at least.

Still a no go in Windsor. I asked my buddy who works there and he has no clue why they didn't rollout the program on the 15th and when they will.

Wha? When I was at the Pembina location on the 13th buying a new 360 the clerk specifically said that they'd be starting on the 15th (she seemed rather excited...) and the game section was in the process of being re-arranged (no dedicated counter though). I haven't been back since, but...

Probably something to check out, I've got a few games I wouldn't mind trading in. Anyone know if Future Shop would care if a game case was slightly broken (top near the hinge, still closes just fine) or had a Rogers Video sticker on the game disc?

My copy of Dark Sector was like that, and also without the instructions, and they didn't seem to care. Of course, they also seemed to have no idea what they were doing, so YMMV.
Yea, anything like that is YMMV normally. How much did you get for Dark Sector?
$13.20. But like some have said, they seem to have 2 different values in their system, and that was the higher one. I might have just got lucky.

I tried trading in a few games at FS on Bovaird (Brampton), and they had no idea what they were doing. All they knew was they had to do it at a web terminal, but that's as far as we got because they didn't even know the Username/Password to login and do so.

Well thats peachy, as that's where I'd be trading in. Just peachy.

Try going tomorrow morning/afternoon if you can, that's what the CSR's advised me to do, as their manager/dept. head will be in tomorrow ;)

The problem lies with crappy corporate attitude concerning used games, they just think " USED GAMES = PROFIT".

They did not offer any sort of trade-in program training. None at all.

This is word by word, the "training" management said that we should get:

"... just go on the store site and get the training, it's in there."

So they don't know either.

The training program is thus:

1. Log onto the trade-in site.

2. Do trade.

3. Make sure it's not scratched.

4. ...

5. Meow? Meow-password is meow-this. Meow meow woooooooof.

6. Yeah that's it. G'night!

I'm so serious. Not a single word has been changed, the "training" is pure shit. And as previously stated, games/DVD/music department managers aren't really gamers or anything or even on top of things, they're just sales people at a rest stop in the corporate ladder. So they can't help =\.

Sigh, it's hard defending the company because of colossal fuck ups like this one, such as leaving employees to fend for themselves, it's like giving a toddler a mountain bike, strapping him on against his own will and throwing it into the ocean.

Yea, when I asked to trade in a game they had an "OH Boy" :whistle2:s face on, then the two chatted/complained about not receiving a tutorial on how to do so, and laughed in the process. They were the only one's laughing :???:
They only take complete games, I take it?
I believe the checklist on the terminal says "manual not required" but I was just looking over the guy's shoulder so I'm not 100%. It did say to check the condition of the disc though

Tried trading in some games at Future Shop again (Brampton) location, and these employees knew what they were doing, no mean to generalize but the women knew what they were doing (the others were men). Anyways, the good stuff:

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (360) - $15.60
Nights: Journey of Dreams (Wii) - $13.20

Went through to a web terminal again, checked if the discs were scratched, entered in UPC codes of the games, printed the transaction, then had to wait in-line at the Technical Services, to receive my credit on a Future Shop "Store Credit" card.

Still a long process, I might look forward to trading more often at FS if the whole process didn't take approximately 10-15 mins.

Just a few notes...

- Most Future Shop employees still don't know how to do trade in's.

- Some locations are trying to apply a "maximum 3 games" rule when the trade-in terminal explicitly states otherwise.

- I don't believe there actually IS a "third-party" that does their games, solely based on the fact that any company whose job it is to know the value of used games can't possibly screw up this badly. Shovelware & old sports trade in high, newer titles aren't even in the system, etc.

- The whole system is still new, so YMMV everywhere. Expect the unexpected.

The third party cleans them up and stuff, Futureshop Corporate dictates the prices and the system.

Re: calling a future shop. hahaha. haahahahhHAHAHA. AHhhhhhh... {snrk} HAHAHAHHAHAAH!

But seriously, have you ever tried doing that? You'll be asking about a product that most employees don't have training for, and that most LIVE employees don't have the foggiest about. And even if they do, well, let me direct you to this gem of an article:

http://www.bspcn.com/2007/06/12/27-confessions-of-a-former-circuit-city-worker/

It's about "Circuit City" in the states, but I'm willing to be dollars to XBL points that you can replace "Circuit City" with Future Shop and not skip a beat. I'll direct you to #11:

11. Don’t bother calling in to check if we have a CD, DVD or game in stock, chances are they’ll say “no” regardless whether we have it or not. Just laziness.
Personally, I'm hoping to take advantage of this trade in stuff for as long as it lasts-- which, by my guess, will be a fiscal quarter. After that, they'll see that their losing money on it (due to incompetent management, but they'll never admit that). The project will get shuffled from one middle manager to another-- and the trade-in program won't be the latter's pet project. It'll get a stern looking at, and by the time Christmas has past, it'll be scrapped.

Not to sound negative or anything, but my faith in Future Shop to handle a program like this is-- well-- low enough that I can't even think of an analogy for how low it is.

gamer602, could you update the OP w/ the FS trade in formula that you found?

Makes it easier for those who don't want to shuffle through 10 pages of the thread

Trade in Credit can be used on services AND ALL MERCHANDISE! Ipods...macs...ps3...whatever!

FS's formula for trade value:
USED price:
Divided by 2
Minus 10%
=Trade value!!!!

Example:
Mario Galaxy USED 39.99
Divided by 2 =$20!
Minus 10%
Final Value=$18

This is the formula for ALL GAMES! It can be mario galaxy and trade in at the same price as Horsez 3

All Gamecube and XBOX GAMES ARE EXCLUDED!!!

All SPORTS games MUST BE THIS year's OR LAST year's versions.
NO 07 & Prior games accepted!

done!!!

Christ almighty I'm gone for two days and this is what happens? :D Man trade in prices are so nuts, they really need to bring this to the GTA.

Traded in 3 games, was surprised with how much Lair was worth.

Lair PS3 - $22.80
Bully Xbox360 - $18.00
Grand Turismo 5 Prologue PS3 - $13.20

I'll probably be going in the next couple of days. I'll just bring a shitload of games and see how much extra cash I can get on top of Little Big Planet for free.
I hope that we'll see a deal like the one for Little Big Planet and Fable 2 for Gears of War 2!

So based on the TIVs, they are selling Kirby Canvas Curse for $10? Assuming someone is an idiot and trades theirs in for $4, that sounds like a great deal for the lucky bastard that finds it in store.
Hey kathos...can you access the tiv fs system? you should hook me up with a list of current prices :)
I think I work tomorrow (not sure) I'll have to call in, if I am though I'll see if I can log into the used games network, I'll try to grab a list or whatever.

From what I've seen it was a search-basis only - if you can find a printable list (I wish I had access to this, I could make a script to grab all the prices!) I'd throw up FS tivs on the site. I'm debating now, but I don't want to do it sporadically and then have the program scrapped at FS in a month or two lol

Do that and you be my hero!

At fs, the login for the used network is: fs(store Number) example: fs007

Password is your peronal password.
