Just looking for trade-in prices? Well, check out what's been reported:
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:
Hey guys, just a head's up. Went to my local Gamerush today (03/24/07), noticed they had put a ton of the NEW games they had for sale on a side counter. The manager told me they were being added to the 50% off sale. These were new additions to the previous sale. He let me look at the list he had for his store of the pulled games. PS2, XBOX, PSP, Gamecube, and 360 were on the list, the majority of the list (about half) was original XBOX, with about 20% PS2, rest a mix of 360, Gamecube, and PSP.

Can't recite the list verbatim, but you may want to check with your local game rush, I believe the actual list may vary from store to store, based what they have in inventory.

If you want, post what titles you are interested in and I will do my best to recall if it was included on the list, but I would suggest going to you local Gamerush and scout it out today!!
The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?
A: Probably.

(All prices are after the 50% off discount.)
As far as I was told, it is on new games only, and is 50% off the marked price. The list was also laying on the back counter and I perused it. The list of games are for the PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PSP, and Xbox360. There are no DS games.

I wrote down the Xbox360 games since I thought those would be the most interesting. There were not many PSP games and the ones on the list were not very exciting. So without further ado, the Entire Xbox360 50% Off GameRush Listing:

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.

Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Trade-In Price Wiki
Went today around noon PST, and had Crackdown, Smackdown '07, Eternal Sonata (sorry io and Scorch), COD3, and Gears in hand and ready to check out. The kid rang me up, but his co-worker ran over to point out the sign they'd just printed behind him saying it was a fake coupon. All in all, no go in Brea, CA.

Anyone wanna be a wonderful CAG and sell me a BioShock?
I tried that one early in the morning (Imperial, right?). Was there an old fat guy that looks like he could double for a slightly tan Don Vito (from Viva La Bam, without the lazy eye of course) there? He turned me down, and I think the kid was there as well. Don't even bother with the one in La Habra (Beach and Lambert).
fuckING HELL, I knew they were lying.

Guess what excuse I got at 3 stores? "This is a Franchise coupon and we are a Corporate store."
Franchise stores are only affiliated with the corporate entity in name only. They can refuse to take anything that corporate doles at them. To sum it up, somebody besides Blockbuster Inc. owns that store and they have the right to whatever they want so long as corporate approves (and not accepting corporate coupons is one of them). Some franchise stores did not participate in the "End of Late Fees" program. That's why they always have a disclaimer with programs and coupons that specifically say "at participating locations only".

My hubby and I tried this at 2 different Blockbusters in town and both accepted it! I was amazed. We went around 10:30am and I am so glad I woke up early for once. The first store was asking where we got the coupon, I said from a friend, and they asked me to call them if I found out where it originally came from. ^_^; The other store was really skeptical and made a few calls, after about 15 mins they finally were told to just go ahead with it. Scored 20 games between us, we kept 6 and traded the rest to EB for credit to pay off some reserves and pick up the new Katamari. I still can't believe it worked........ @_@

Hell, with all the horrible late fees I've paid in the past to Blockbuster, I don't really feel bad about it.

That's just silly -- this deal was WAY too good to last, no matter how you cut it. Whether someone picked up one copy of Bioshock or five, Blockbuster was taking a huge (and unintended) loss. And surprise surprise, they noticed it and quickly did something about it.

Now perhaps if EVERY single person had limited themselves to buying ONLY $7.99 and under games with this coupon ...
I heard through a..let's say viable source, that the reason this was caught so quickly was due to certain, shall I say, greedy customers buying 5-10 copies of Bioshock (and multiple copies of any newer used games). That would definitely set off some red flags in my book -- who on earth would need 5 copies of the same $50+ game. Not trying to start a flame or anything, but I think if people had all been a bit less greedy, others may have been able to partake in this deal of the century.

Haha wow I can't believe they had the stones to actually call you. Anyone else receive a call? Did she say why she wanted you to return the games?
The conversation went something like this (not exact quotes, of course):

Me: Hello?
Girl: Is (prmononoke) there?
Me: That's me.
Girl: Did you buy some video games today with that coupon?
Me: Yes.
Girl: It turns out that was actually a fraudalent coupon. Is there any chance you could return the games, since you saved like, 200 dollars?
Me: Maybe.
(Silence, or something very forgettable)
Me: What would happen if I didn't return them?
Girl: I don't know.
Me: Is there any way you could find out?
Girl: You could call tomorrow and ask a manager.
Me: Ok...thanks.

I am not calling, of course, and I don't plan on answering if they call again. Fortunately, the first store didn't call me about it.

In retrospect, I really wish I had stopped at the other two stores on my way home from school, instead of stopping home and then heading back out.

Edit: Anyway, I guess the reason given was that I had saved 200-ish dollars. Not exactly a compelling reason.

Edit 2: Here's how it should have gone:

Me: Hello?
Girl: Is (prmononoke) there?
Me: That's me.
Girl: Did you buy some video games today with that coupon?
Me: Yes.
Girl: It turns out that was actually a fraudalent coupon. Is there any chance you could return the games, since you saved like, 200 dollars?
Me: Lawlz. (Hangs Up)

I called up both the BBs I bought from today to kind of check my karma. Both managers said that I had nothing to worry about since it was valid at the time I used them. I was surprised how cordial they were about it!

this is one coupon i didn't have the balls to try out. a rare scenario for me. if i would have gotten off work earlier, it would have been a different story.
i can't believe blockbuster is actually calling people. they must be very desperate. lol.

Unless I missed something, I was the only one (reportedly) called. Only one store called, so I'm sure it's not really a corporate order or anything like that. Just one store trying to recoup their losses. That doesn't change the fact that calling me is incredibly, insanely, stupidly fucking ridiculous.

I think that's a single isolated case, more than likely drummed up by an employee looking to save her ass or play superhero and score brownie points with the boss or a manager got super worked up over it and started going crazy and acting like using this coupon was equal to someone raping his mother and demanded that the employees call everyone.

I doubt we'll see anymore of this, there's NOTHING they can do, as of this morning it was a valid coupon...it's not now...but oh well.

Wow, congrats all that got in on this ST... er... deal! :applause: I debated all day about trying this and decided not to (morals  since I knew the coupon was fake). Kind of glad I didn't. I bet my Blockbuster would have called me and asked to return the games too. It's strange and scary that they actually called you. I wonder what that conversation was like between the employees when they decided to call you.

Okay folks.

I've removed the links & images to the coupon. Along with a few posts which were clearly asking for advice on how to use the coupon in stores who might not yet have been notified to reject the coupon immediately.

The story has unfolded within the thread, but long story short for those of you with no reading comprehension or too lazy to go back a few pages: The code was in the BB system (may have been for ages, or it may have been a recent addition, the specidifcs of it don't matter), a coupon with extremely limited release was distributed for a small area, altered and posted online. The intent of the person who posted the altered image is unknown, perhaps they thought it funny, perhaps they had malicious intentions against BB inc.

Whatever the case... use of, or attempted use of this coupon from here on in is a clear attempt to defraud BlockBuster inc. Your justifications related to the code being in the system don't matter. It wasn't intended for large-scale use. It cost BB sizable liquid assets and that's going to in turn raise prices for us in future. And again, defrauding anyone from some little old Granny or a suffering rental chain is illegal. Your justifications don't matter to the Man, any use of the coupon from here on out is fraud. No more talk of it in here.

Sorry. Yes, I'm jealous of the awesome hauls, and I wish the coupon hadn't been a fake and BB had mad profits to give away games to us without it hurting their bottom line and their shareholders.

Maybe Cheapy won't mind discussion of using fraudulent coupons in the Shopping Morality/Ethics Thread, I don't know. But no more of it in here.

i kind of wish i had left work alil earlier like i intended today but id figure it still be good after 5pm when i got out. well i tried my closest BB near me around lunch @ 12pm. they had a ehhh selection of games. i ended up snagging...

i had got a ps3-Spider Man 3 Special Edition, got on the train, checked no game, went back and told them what happen & just exchanged for TMNT.

x360-TMNT=$25
x360-Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2=$45
x360-Lost Planet=$35
DVD-Harsh Times=$15
Ps3-Armored Core 4=$35
total=$27.09

the rep there was actually suprised about it & asked where i got the coupon told him online. even gave him one.

after work went to 3 stores, they had Bioshock & other goodies. but by then they had got the emails. i was kind of disappointed because i could of really scored. oh well tho. there will be more glitches or waever u call them in the systems of these wonderful stores. lol

I say a new Blockbuster thread be opened up, post this event. It's a very cluttered topic now and could use a reboot.

I second that, this seems like a good point to end this thread and start anew.

In the past I have always tended towards NOT wanting new threads for things (I like finding stuff where I left it ;)), but in this case I wholeheartedly agree. We need to leave this mess behind, not to mention the 50% sale thing is ancient history.

I'd do it now, but I wanted to clear it with Shipwreck first.

I think it's time for a new GameRush thread to stop all the discussion about this coupon....

I know my one GameRush had Elites in stock, which was tempting to buy....but I will stick to my normal 20GB.
One of the stores that I used the coupon at called me and asked me to return the games.
Hope my store doesn't ask that, I already traded a few in to GameCrazy to pre-order Ace Combat 6.

Well, I used the coupon and ONLY used my Gift Card, they never scanned my Membership Card. I suppose they can check inot what account that Gift Card has been used in on the past (I put all my trade-ins on that card), but I doubt they would do that. I can deny it anyways saying I gave the card away or something.

MY receipet said the Customer name was: CUSTOMER, HAPPY

....and happy i was :)

Its so crazy to me that on CAG people are always looking for Elites. My Wal-Mart here has about 5, Best Buy about 6, Target around the same. Hell, even K-Mart has 2-3. My K-Mart even has about 10 Legendary Halo 3s just sitting in the case.

I think it was more the fact the GAMERUSH has Elites, which are generally scarce there....all the other stores seem to have a good amount in the wild. It's a way to use the credit at Blockbuster.

That I wouldn't know, there isnt a GR in atleast 100 miles of my town. I've wanted to find one because of several prices in the OP but Dallas is the closest I could find and it is about 200 miles away.

And the Halo 3 Leg. may not even be that big of a deal everywhere. I'm not exactly racing to get my copy of Halo 3 just yet.

theres no way that BBV can call you and make you return the games...thats ridiculous...and there would be a HUGE law suit if BBV tried to charge my credit card for the correct amount of those games...

I know. I'm pretty sure that if I don't voluntarily return the games, as they seem to want me to do, they'll just eat the cost. I mean, what if I had already traded in the games? What would they do then? Most likely nothing. There's no way in hell I'm taking the games back.

Save ur receipted or possible scann ur receip incase BB overcharge ur credit .. It's call Credit Theft or Fraud you can sue BB for it. Remembered we bought the games not stolen it.

Get your coupon-related discussions in now, because any talk of it in the new thread I'm going to delete. It's done, it's over. It was a fake and fraud. And we don't condone that here.

returned your pm, buddy.

Probably not the right place for it, but since this thread will end up dying soon, might as well - if anyone's feeling generous and wanting to get rid of 360 games that don't trade well, PM me. :)

New thread will be up shortly. As Gwen said, any discussion of coupon-related issues needs to be done here, in, like, the next hour before I close this thread ;).

I'll close with this unrelated picture.

If anyone still wants to discuss any issues with this, the DVD Talk thread where this originated is still open.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=514536

I really don't think anyone here has malicious intent to defraud the company now that the coupon is dead. And most of those that did use it, used it not knowing it was a "fraudulent" coupon. So I feel it is legitimate to continue discussion if someone has an issue with Blockbuster following what transpired.

Yeah, I felt fine using "it" when I had the MOD call up corporate at corporate okayed it. Of course I figured it wouldn't last, but I think we should just let any mentions of "it" stay as the word "it", and keep "it" out of the new GR thread.

I just quit total access because they changed my account. They took away unlimited in store trade ins AND (this hurt most of all) my free movie/game coupon. Thats a 7.99 value right there that they took away. All this while expecting me to pay the same price. Sorry Blockbuster you fail.

Once all my wifes shows are over this season I'll probably sign back up for netflix...or nothing.

Ok, back to the coupon thread.

Im one of the unlucky normanites. I cannot believe no one here got to use the coupon. I saw signs up in the store about it before I even saw this thread.
In all fairness, I've been watching the last few years play out in the movie rental business and this will have very little affect on Blockbuster in the scheme of things as they are right now. They've been rocketing themselves into the poor house during the last couple of years to begin with. Total Access makes them little to no money (that's what you get for engaging Netflix in a price war). Blockbuster's once illustrious business design has given way to poor choices and a disasterous performance by former CEO, John Antioco.

In addition, big-box retailers such as Circuit City, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart continue to gain favor with movie studios over rental outlets because these studios usually see very little profit from rental markets as opposed to directly selling movies to customers. Blockbuster managed to corner the market during a time when VHS tapes took many months to manufacture in massive quantities (VHS movies were available months before mass release, but usually cost upwards of sixty to seventy dollars). Now that DVD production has decreased the wait time, movie studios can ship movies out quicker than ever.

Looking to the horizon, digital delivery threatens Blockbuster's (and the rental market in general) business design once again. Now that broadband connections are almost ubitiquous, digital delivery eliminates the need to travel (during a time when gas prices are at a premium) in order to pick up a movie. With digital delivery concessions becoming more and more prevalent (longer rental time, faster download speeds, and use on multiple devices), Blockbuster once again appears to absent on the first boat out of the harbor.
Well, after I got home from work, there was a message on my answering machine at home. A manager from the blockbuster i went to said that there was a error and that i need to call him back and set up a time to return the games....he said otherwise, they would charge my card for the full amount. "This is a very serious matter at hand."

Question I have is, can they really do that? They do have my Credit card info after all...what should I do? It's a pain to go all the way back to the store, esp when everything was good at the time. He also called a fellow store employee to confirm as well.

Please advise on wheter they can put additional charges onto my card since they messed up on their end....

It's interesting how different managers are handling this. I discussed the situation with my local BB manager and he said there was no problem. The coupon wasn't supposed to be used at non-franchise stores, but it worked at the time of the transaction so everything was cool. I brought it all up because I really didn't want this to damage my rep at the store and had even questioned the coupon when I used it to make sure they thought it was legit.

You have a receipt showing what you agreed to pay, not for the full amount, as you didn't agree to pay that additional amount.

Right. They can't legally charge you more than the receipt because that was the final agreement. If they claim "mistake" on their part, they can take you to small claims and force you to pay the rest or return the games, but Blockbuster wouldn't do that to the private citizen (due to costs and bad publicity), and especially with this large a number of people involved.

If they do go through with that action, ask your credit card company for a chargeback. Make sure you keep the receipt which shows that the transaction was completed.

New thread is up:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3473171&posted=1#post3473171

Please no discussion of the coupon and related issues. If anything comes out of this (ie, more people getting called, people getting charged for the differences, etc) it certainly merits discussion, but let's make a new thread for that in a different forum. Let's sit back for a bit and see if it blows over. If so, no further discussion is necessary. If people start having real issues we can make the thread then.

Hmmm - just noticed that someone did get a call threatening chargeback. If so, let's go ahead and make that thread now. I'll let someone else do that though. KEEP THAT DISCUSSION OUT of the main new GR thread, though. I will post a link to it in the OP of the new thread, and, more importantly, put it at the very end of this thread.
