50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

No, it's not a coupon in the paper coupon sense - but it rings up that way. Look at your original receipt. You actually got $19.98 back for it, correct? That's the price they changed it to, and then it rings up with a "coupon' discount on top of that. Like I said, I have no idea why they didn't just mark the games half off in the system. Probably something to do with keeping the used prices higher. And yet they reduce the trade-ins to next to nothing on these games. Hey, it is GR.
 
LoL so what's to prevent me from going in ..buying Guitar Hero II at one Game Rush for 25.00...driving to another and returning it for 50.00?

there is a rule against buying duplicates, but im pretty sure its no more than 2 of any one item.such as on the DVD deals, you can't get 3 copies of the same movie.

Nothing but the cashiers you deal with (you had a particularly ignorant one there) and your own sense of ethics ;).

The cashiers do have to put forth some sort of effort to do the return correctly (yet another reason for them to just change the prices and not mess with this "coupon" nonsense). They have to return it at the price it rings up and then deduct the extra credit from your account. That isn't too difficult but is probably something many won't want to deal with. Apparently this was the case with yours - she even ignored your effort to let her know about it.

BUT she did give me grief over returning a pre-owned Resident Evil 2 for Gamecube that i bought there...i returned it and said the reason i was returning it was because i didn't like it..and that's what the girl told me when i bought it "If i don't like it i can return it because i'm buying it pre-owned"..she almost didn't do it for me.......and i was about to say "Can i speak with your manager?" but then i noticed it said "MANAGER" on her tag...

Well, that's actually kind of consistent. GR is loathe to do ANY returns (despite what the first person told you about the used game). On a brand new, unopened game, they have less excuse to refuse the return so they just do it in the easiest way possible. So it can work both for you and against you ;).

They seem to have a problem overriding the computer (not a technical problem but a mental one). Just ask Botticus about his preorders that were priced more than the eventual release. I'm not sure he ever got the difference back on those. (They charge you $35 for the preorder, game comes out at $30. If you just return it you only get $30 back automatically - it takes effort to make things right).

heh...oh well..i walked out of there with what i wanted.. :) i was going to return Wind Waker to buy a New Zelda Minish cap...thought to myself..eh pay 20.00 difference..but then after the 2 returns i walked out with New Minish cap and New Fire Emble POR with only having to pay 8.00 difference..I was happy..
 
I've never had a problem buying duplicates at GR. During last years clearance I bought several copies of Metroid Prime 2 and others when I was transferring credit from GR to EB.
 
I picked up "We Love Katamari" for $15.00, maybe a bit much to pay for it but I'm happy with it anyway.

What's funny, is that the employee working didn't even want to give it to me. "Wait...what?? It's marked $30.00!" And went and ran to a manager. :roll: She looked at me like I "h4x0red the system." Or something.
 
Thanks for the heads up OP. Most of my Blockbusters have a limited supply of new games. The one large store I did find, had all their new games for $9.99 and 50% off all their pre-owned games, but they were all marked either $14.99 or $19.99 so basically $7.50 to $10 for the preowned. There were some newer pre-owned games stickered at $40 or so. I guess I was spoiled by the earlier used game sale that Blockbuster had last year when I bought a ton of games for $5 (and have yet to play many of them).

It's indicative of poor managment; a good manager reads all their emails and is on top of current promotions/sales/drops/et cetera and then makes sure their staff is fully informed as well.
 
Can anyone here confirm that Elder Scrolls III: GOTY Edition for XBox is really on clearance? One of my local stores has a couple of copies, but they insist that only the regular edition (which they also have) is on their clearance list. The manager even showed me the drop list, which only seems to include the regular edition.

The GOTY edition has a different UPC, and the manager I was talking to practically threw a temper tantrum when I requested that he ring up the game just to be sure. It's apparently an unreasonable amount of work to have to void a transaction if I'm wrong.

Yes they are. By the way, if you were still considering N3, they have a couple of copies at the location on 34th St. S. I hadn't seen them before, but it looks like they rearranged the 360 cases, so I'm guessing they were hidden.

I guess I'm not sure what makes it specifically a "Game of the Year" Edition except that it says in small type "RPG of the Year" and "Game of the Year" and has various award logos on it. But nowhere does it say specifically "Game of the Year Edition". Otherwise it is a Platinum Hits title and the UPC is 093155116702. That one, anyway, rang up $7.50 automatically for me.

Hmmm... A quick check on ebay indicates that "Morrowind Gold: Game Of The Year" is a different thing. I don't think I've ever seen this in stores. Of course, the only 4 current AND completed auctions for it just have stock photos. Edit - Ah, OK, searching by the UPC I see many more of them. Yes, they are different and it appears only the regular one is on sale at GR. That's too bad - I had thought I did get the GotY edition. What are the differences?

I was talking about the version with the expansions, like reibeatall said. Sorry, I should have been clearer, I didn't notice that the regular version also said GOTY on the case. Anyway, thanks for answering my question!
 
So i went to my local BB to check out this sale.I asked the employee behind the counter if this particular BB was a franchise or corporate.He told me it was corporate and i asked him if they had the 50% off clearance sale and he said no.I turn around and right on the first games endcap is a giant red sign that says 50% off clearance...lol.
 
Went back into my GR tonight and it looks like the clearance games weren't even touched from a few days ago... They still don't know what they are doing next week but hope to find out tomorrow. I bought a Hulk UD for Xbox anyway just 'cause. They have them marked $29.99, but of course it rings up $14.98 and then gets $7.49 taken off. No wonder they still had 3 of them :roll:.

What are my chances of finding a brand new Xbox at GR? Is $90 for a used Xbox a good price and what kind of warrenty does Gamerush have on used systems?
 
Stopped by my local gamerush today in Orlando. Not much to choose from at all, so I picked up Prey for 360 for $19.99.

I got Call of Chthulu for $7.50 at GR sale, but I plan to play it, so it's not for sale. Just pointing out that they are out there.

I also got Darkwatch for $5.
I think I got 6 games in total from 2 GR stores, all Xbox1. See my previous post in this thread.
 
PIcked up a Shadow Hearts : New World for my friend at Game Rush 9.99. and i inquired bout the trade in value for Psychonauts for XBOX..it's 0.75 so..yeah the wiki can be updated with that price.
 
Well, I called today to see if my store (which is now less than 1 week from closing for good) was going to do with their new game stock. They still don't know, but they think maybe a few things had been marked from $39.99 to $29.99 yesterday (though when I was in there last night they didn't mention it when I asked).

Anyway, the potential big news for the REST of you is that the manager thinks the clearance will go to 75% off on the 23rd. Of course, my store closes 5 days before that :bomb:. That would be unusual though as it is a pretty quick turnaround from 50% to 75% - and like I said earlier, it took nearly 3 months last year for that additional drop. So take it as a rumor at this point, but you may want to wait on any lesser clearance purchases (things that aren't going to disappear soon) until then to see if it happens.
 
Okay.. stop by at Gamerush during lunch ( haven't been to this store in a longgg time) just for the heck of it i asked if they have any DSL and they found the black one in the back (my friend called a few weeks earlier and they didn't have it back then or didn't even search the back room i guess haha he had to drive pretty far to get his :( )

now is the kicker! I wanted to buy the black DSL but at the last moment the cashier/manager said I can not use the store credit to buy the system anymore (only accessary and games) is that a crock of $@%@? or is it the new policy? If it is indeed %@@, should I try it at later time when both of them go off duty? thanx

I hadn't checked out my local GR for this sale yet until today. I wanted to buy Wrestlemania 21 for my nephew so I went in and had a hard time finding it as it wasn't out with all the other clearance games but the system said they had 2 in stock. The Ast manager finally decided to look in the shelf unit they keep the new games and there it was. Anyway, I bought:

WWE Wrestlemania $10
SSX Tour(?I think) $2.50
Psychonauts $4.??

As I was checking out the Ast Manager stated that Blockbuster was "trying" to get out of retail so all the retail games were going to move to the clearance in about 2 weeks. Everything except the New Gen. games like 360, PS3 and Wii. I don't exactly know what that all means but more games should go on sale soon.
 
Hmmm... Well, we now have some wildly conflicting info. At my store, the manager was simply saying the current clearance stuff will go to 75% off soon - no mention of anything new on the list. Since the current clearance is only a small fraction of the 'old' new game stock, it doesn't appear to be anything like them getting out of the retail game business. However, if what Santurio heard is true, then this clearance could be huge (though why they started off so pathetically is a mystery then). However, in that case it is bad news for GR long term - looks like more signs of the beginning of the end (as if there haven't been enough already :lol:).

I've bought multiple consoles from Gamerush over the last year. If you still have the credit at the store, transfer the credit to a value card and try another store.

The back of the value/gift cards say it can be used for "eligible merchandise". Maybe certain stores have deemed consoles as "ineligible".

Interesting, though the 23rd is a Friday which isn't BB's usual markdown day (its still Monday or Tuesday for that, isn't it?). Its not impossible though, I mean apart from the big name 360 titles, not much seems to be selling even at 50% off.
 
Wow I was shocked! My GR actually had several new DS lites and Wii accessories in stock today. Checked out the 50% off sale. Pretty much all of the good stuff was gone.

i will, but it did have dates. phase 2 is later this march, and it said the sale is over early april. i think we shipped out all the old clearance stuff.

i can only imagine phase 2 means 75% off, but it didnt say. i might have to hide some games since i work there.

I went to Blockbuster when the sale started and didn't feel like buying anything at the time, but I went back and they still had mode of the games still on sale (not many had been bought). I ended up caving in and bought:

Frantix (PSP) - $5
Outlaw Volleyball Remix (PS2) - $5
Xenosaga III (PS2) - $15

I wish I would have read about the "phase two" before I bought these...but they may have been bought before then anyways, so I am still glad I bought them. I was still possibly planning on buying NHL 07 for PSP, so if it gets clearanced further past $15, I'll have to pick it up. We'll have to wait and see what "phase two" really is ;)
 
I've noticed a new stock of Sandisk 1 gig PSP Pro Duos at the local Gamerush stores, marked $59.99. These look identical to the ones that were clearanced out at $15 (75% off) last summer. Why would they restock these things, especially at that crazy price? They're locked up in the cases at both stores I've seen them at, but I may have them price check them for me to see if they actually ring up at $60 or if they are ringing up at the $15 clearance price from last year. $15 is an okay price for a 1 gig Sandisk stick...that's what Best Buy, Circuit City, and several other stores were selling them for on Black Friday.
