50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

They lowered used prices last time there was a 50% off sale, but it took a long time...months...and many of the used prices never got as low as the new prices for those games, especially once they hit 75% off new. There were a lot of $2-3 new games last summer that are still $5-6 or more used at Gamerush.
 
Thanks...I wasn't sure if they did or now. I'll have to see if my store has TW07 again....my friend just got it, so some online would be nice.
 
Did this stuff hit 75% off today? There's only one more Tuesday in March, so if not this week, then it must be next week if that info that was posted was correct.

The manager at my (now closed) GR insists that the clearance is going to 75% on the 23rd. He just told me this again yesterday. Why the 23rd, I have no idea (as that is this Friday and of course usually these things happen on Tuesday).
 
I was out and about today, so I decided to stop by Blockbuster, EBgames, Bestbuy, etc... just to look. I was hoping to see that 75% off sign up, but it wasn't as I expected...but if it does go up soon...I am snagging the NHL 07 (PSP/would be $7.50) and Dungeon Siege (PSP/would be $10).

Although, I did notice another deal there that isn't mentioned here I believe. GameRush was having a Buy Two get One Free deal on all used games (Excluding Wii, PS3, and X360 games). They had some signs up in store, but I ended up not buying anything because I cleared them out of all the good used games a few months back. I did notice some used games had price drops though: Popolocrois went down $5 (now $20) used, FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus went down $10 and is now $25 used, and a few games here and there seemed to drop in price. This deal was in the Massillon, Ohio area, and I am not sure if it is YMMV?

I did end up getting some games at Best Buy though: $5 for King Kong (PS2) using the $5 off coupon, and $5 for MLB2k6 for PSP, also using the $5 off coupon. Overall a good night :)

There are a few things I would like to still pick up at Blockbuster, so I'll just wait until the 75% starts. The employees working at this store are clueless to the clearance (the way it should be! Best Buy!)

Wait, is there a GR now in Phoenix? Or are you just talking a few games at a regular Blockbuster?

I'm now GR-less... Kind of depressing...
 
Some people thought GR would hit 75% today or tomorrow. Any word if it did it today? I'm sure I'll have to beat the employees to the 360 games when they hit 75% I was the first to get stuff at the GR across the street when the clearance started (they had no idea, of course) and I passed on Zelda TP for GC. Came back an hour later on my way to work and although there were no signs up or anything all six copies were gone.

It's a negative, I attempted to purchase Call of Cthulu @ GR and it was still ringing up @ 50% off. Perhaps mañana (tomorrow). ;)
 
Went in to my local BB.

Samurai Champloo is down slightly to $16.
One Piece Pirate's Carnival is down to $6.

They DO have Buy 2 Get 1 Free running though (excluding 360, PS3, and Wii of course). There's some 360 games I'd pick up if they included those, but even then I'd be hesitant as they are mostly former rentals at this regular BB.

The manager of my now defunct GR told me the clearance games would be sent to this store - they weren't there yet. I'm really hoping they do show up, though as I said before, this store doesn't sell ANY new games so they may just keep them in the back or something.

Is this BB Blockbuster or Best Buy?
 
I asked some employees at my local GR and they had no clue if a drop would even occur. Also I can confirm that buy 2 get 1 free on used games is going on, they must have brought it back.

I was in Rome today and along with every other store in that area (CC, TRU, Kmart), there was NOTHING in GR to even glance at. No buy 2/1 sale, no clearance (at all ???!). pfft.
 
lets put it this way, 75% will begin by April at least. I think it starts today though. someone else has to check cause if i try and it screws up OMGZ EMPLOYEE CREDITS BB MAKES NO SENSE

Yeah, sorry, in this thread BB = Blockbuster and, more specifically, I use it when I'm referring to non-GR Blockbusters (like my local one). In just about every other thread on CAG, BB = Best Buy of course...

One of the GR guys is working at my local store now. I know another one is getting hired by Gamecrazy. By the way, One Piece Pirate's Carnival (PS2) still gets $11 at GC with MVP so if you have any left (or want to get more from Best Buy for $5) take it there instead of BB (where it is only $6 now).
 
I'm guessing the B2G1 Free is similar to how Gamestop does it? The free game has to be equal or of lesser value of the other two games?

Their system is ridiculous. I had an employee ring up X-Men Legends for PS2 just to see if it was 50% off (no 360 compatibility for XML? Huh?) and she tried to make me buy it once it didn't scan on sale, because "I was costing her store money". Simply ridiculous.

I'll check the GR near my office today at lunch to see if the 75% sale is on.
 
I called a couple of Gamerush stores, so far no luck in anyone knowing about the sale going to 75% off. Can anyone else confirm?
 
I called a couple GR away from my area, didn't want to alert the employee's and have everything gone before I got there, but no, no luck either on finding any info on the 75% off.
 
Does this sale just include BB with a GR in it or the regular BB too? I have a BB about 5 mins or less from me and I can check there and report back any sales.. I just need to know if this sale is with the regular BB's to ?
 
Meh, like any Blockbuster employee would know if the 75% off started today or not...calling is a waste of time...only way to find out is to get something scanned. Half the employees don't even know the 50% off is going on and many of the stores don't have the games marked on sale like they're supposed to (but they still ring up correctly).
 
so true, the one at my local BB had no idea about the 50% off until I told him about it. It does include regular BB stores as long as its not a franchise location. Keeping my fingers crossed that 75% off hits today, my store still had a decent amount of games left as of about a week ago.
 
Visited my local GR at lunch. The games were still 50% off and there were mostly original Xbox games left. Although I did get Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for the PS2 at 50% off for only $2.50!:D

Monday drops...that would be a first...I wonder if he meant they would be repricing Monday night and putting them out on Tuesday when the new prices go into effect. That's what they do here.

My Gamerush's here barely have any GBA / Cube / DS titles to speak of... my bet is on more of the same, more PS2 / 360 / PSP / Xbox stuff since most GR's still have tons of that.

Wow, why would a Blockbuster register jockey care so much about the economics of their store?
