50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Godfather may be the onyl game I want though....for $20, not bad.

Just saw the list at my GR and it is massive. Mostly Xbox. The only NDS game is the Mega Man ZX one. The one that interests me is for GC. Battalion Wars is 9.98 so half of that is great. Full Auto for 360 is 19.98. Star Trek Legacy is 59.98. I assume that makes it ring up at half off right? Also, Bully for PS2 is at 39.98. I'd pick that up for $20!

This must be either 6 or 7 if it comes with the mic. Mine had 7 towards the end there. I would definitely have snagged that for $20 in GR credit as trade bait (of course I already have it myself).

Of course I would have jumped on Disgaea 2, but my store never got a single copy of that, and I fucking preordered it months in advance!

So far the only ones I'd be really interested in are LOTR:BfME and The Mega Man DS game, both of which I bought at my GR for $30 a few weeks before they closed. Once these prices become official (automatic in the system) I'll try my luck at finding the former GR guy at my local BB and seeing if he'll do a return/repurchase for me. Probably one of the most YMMV things I've ever attempted ;).

Still keeping my eyes peeled for anything I want people to snag for me - nothing yet (Katamari I got for $40 as a preorder at GR :bomb:).

That should be on the list, as it was marked as clearance at the GR I went to earlier today.

Like I Am Legend, they had to manually adjust the price. (Well, they just gave credit to cover 50% of the purchase.) It probably actually starts tomorrow. The 50% off, anyway, as they all rang up at the *.98 price but didn't get cut in half when it was totaled.

Here's what I remember from my trip that I don't recall being mentioned already (or in the case of Disgaea 2, priced) :

Does the deal start on the 27th? They have disgaea 2 but won't discount it because there is (according to them) no list.

Also, Dead rising still shows up in their system as being 59.99. I thought it was 30?

It will show up in their system on the 27th. As for DR, the "clearanced" price doesn't appear until the cashier hits "total".

Thanks, I felt pretty shitty when they had to credit off 72 dollars... Oh well, so you're saying Disgaea 2 will show up as 25 tomorrow? Or will I have to roll the dice again with the total button.

A lot of GameRushes already have the clearance games either marked or on the clearance rack already. It should definitely be a go tomorrow...

I know that my GR had a MGS Portable Ops new as of a week ago. I really hope it's still there. A definite purchase if it's there tomorrow...
 
I bought Fable: Lost Chapters for $5 brand new (not at blcokbuster though). I'm wondering if it is any good? Also, what's the trade-in value if I don't like it?

I just bought Metroid Prime and Xenosaga III last week at half off in Grand Prairie, so I would say it is a go as well.

Saw Godfather 360 out there today and scored a copy of Saints Row. Aside from the fact that not all stores may have the clearanced games in stock, this clearance has become more YMMV than any other GR clearances I've seen.

I've got at least two GR's in my area that have some of the id'd games (Dead Rising and LSW II most notably) but aren't clearing them out. Other stores took an "everything must go!" approach and had a few things that weren't even on the list, if my memory serves right... some 'Cube/PS2/PSP stuff.

What's even more interesting is it seems like the used games side of the GR house hasn't caught up with the other half. One store had about a dozen copies of Saints Row used, still tagged $39.99 and had a couple brand new copies out in the clearance bin for $25. Good times.

Moral of the story: Take some time to shop around at all of your local GR's. Best of luck to all!

I saw the list this afternoon and there was no mention of :

PSP - Metal Gear Solid PO
X360 - Lord of the Rings BM

I would have picked up Okami & MGSPO, if they were on the list. Can anyone confirm that these are on the list.

Wait, so Godfather is already $20? Isn't it supposed to start tomorrow or did the cashier manually adjust the price? I purposely delayed going to GR because I didn't think they would be activated till tomorrow. :bomb:
 
I think some of these lists only give the clearance price of what games are on-hand/in stock. During the first round of 50% off last month, I know my local GR's list only showed the prices of what was in stock (one of the associates let me peek at the list). However, there were other games that CAGs posted as part of the deal that were not on that list.

I wonder if that is why there is a discrepancy in what is on clearance and what is not. Figured this might help but then again, I don't work there so I could be totally wrong!

This is exactly how it works out, as I too saw the actual list during the first drop, and it only prints out what the store has available, NOT the entire clearance list.
 
Gah, I WISH my store had Disgaea 2. I checked it out tonight, and they had a few games I will probably pick up for my collection, but nothing fantastic. Wild Arms 4 and Radiata Stories.
 
I was at multiple GR's today, and most had the prices in the computer, but the consensus was that the coupon wouldn't start working until tomorrow. The highlights I remember are:

Ys PSP was not on the list (hoping for $7.50)

I'm confused, are the prices going to be in the computer, or will they show up after they hit total. Because my store has 1 copy of disgaea 2 that rang up 50 dollars today before, and after, pressing total.
 
The GR I frequent suddenly had a couple of Final Fantasy XI PS2 HDDs in their lockup case that were never there before. Wonder where they came from. Anyone know what the last price those went for was?

I'll likely go back and take a chance and have it scanned, although the manager there is still probably pissed off at me for having her scan the Xbox Live PGR2 Kit that rang up as $69.99.

They were $39.99 when I bought some back in january
 
Sorry for being so dim, but I've been back and forth through the last few pages and I'm still foggy. Are the clearance prices going to 75% off today (tuesday) or is it simply that additional 50% off titles are being added to the list?

The big part is additional 50% off games. However, at my GR, in the stack of games that needed to go out for the sale, were some old ones (Blitz 360 is one) that was tagged from the LAST sale sitting on the stack. I'm not sure those ones dropped at all.
