50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Picked up 360 Test Drive and LOTR: Middle Earth Battles II both 15$, I did learn that the clearance games ring up with a price of xx.98 when they price check them, so that removes the guess work, somewhat.

Hmm... I was just getting ready to post the same thing. Buy 2 get 1 is definitely on for used games (excluding 360, PS3 and Wii).

Oh and that it is looking like tonight is a more likely timeframe for me getting the OP updated with everything that is getting reported.

Nice... I would have go get it, except my GR's are still having trouble ringing the games up at 50%.

It took about 20 minutes and a phone call to convince the manager a new 50% off sale did start and refund me the difference, apparently they are still not ringing up correctly.

I just picked up God Hand for $10 at lunch. I also bought FF V (GBA) for $15 and Tomb Raider Legends (X360) for $15. The GR I went to didn't have b2g1 for used games though.

Nah man me and my bro had been wanting that for a while. I've got 1 more Gamerush in my area to hit up but I'll keep my eyes peeled.
 
Checked two BB's (Federal Way & Norpoint in WA) and all 360 games are ringing up at XX.99, and I can't get any of the clownshoe clerks to total the purchase. yay.
 
Had an interesting conversation with the closest GR manager this afternoon at lunch. I asked him if they had shipped off all their new PSP games and he confirmed that they had. He then said: "After next month, we won't have any new games. Used only."

I then asked him if this was all systems or just PSP and he said all systems. That they were getting out of the new game business. I then asked him if this was all stores or just his. He said he wasn't 100% sure, but that he "thought" some of the highest-trafficked GR stores would still carry a limited selection of new games.

So, he probably doesn't have the big picture but it appears that the closest GR is going to convert to used only by the end of next month. Figured I would post this info.
 
Prey (XBOX 360) for $10 is very good deal. I went to GR this morning the store have 3 copies Tomb Raider: Legend (XBOX 360) with Sticker price $20 and it rang up $16.XX after taxes. I said "I should rangup $9.99" instead cos is 50% off price.... blahh blahh he didn't manual extra $5 off but i still snagged 1 copy. He took off 2 copies off the shelve & re-tag the correct sticker.

Bastard... i should get it for $10-ish plus taxes instead $16.XX.

Thanks for posting. Your'e the second or third person that's posted something like this :( . I still have $180 in credit or so (preordered Legendary Halo 3, Forza 2 and $20 or so in value card) so hopefully I'll find something good in clearance today.

Is there any way to use value credit on Blockbuster online?

This makes a lot of sense... both GR's I went too were completely barren on PSP games. One GR, the one I found MGS PO at, had about 6 PSP games total, counting that, and not a lot of new games for anything else.

I wonder if they will go ahead and do a store wide 50% off clearance on every game in the store?

Argh.. I saw FFV earlier but not sure is on Clearance. Oh well, i'll pickup another day since it on the shelves instead on the table.
 
Picked up God Hand and Shining Force Neo. Other than that, nothing else mentioning.

I asked this before but noone seems to know if Champion Return to Arms is on the clearance.

Interesting about them not carrying new games any more. The manager of my store told me that they would start carrying a very small selection of new games again in April at most regular Blockbuster stores. But maybe I misunderstood him and he was talking about GR actually reducing their stock. I thought it was a *good* thing - ie, my local little BB would have some new games again, which they haven't in 6 months. But if it means GR is getting out of the new game business then bah... They might as well fold up entirely if that is the case. I can't imagine them getting lots of trades if there's no new games to buy.

I've been holding on to my last $100 of Gamerush credit for Guitar Hero II on 360. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can grab a copy before they no longer sell new games (if the rumor is true). They should get it in a week from this Friday, right?

Picked up Eye Toy Antigrav for $4.99. At the store I visited, ALL new Xbox and Gamecube games were on the clearance table.
 
I went in today. I was able to get Tomb Raider ($15, last copy), Condemned ($15, last copy), Oddworld Stranger's Wrath ($10, I think last copy but not sure) and Justice League ($10, Xbx).

I asked the employee there the outlook on new games, but he just said they'd still get new games. But he didn't want to provide much info. I'm just glad I was able to use $50 in credit for 4 games I really wanted to play.

I just called GR and checked the trade-in value for a few games, and Rave Master GC gets $9.50.

You can get it at best buy for either $4.99 or $9.99 after coupon (I don't remember which price it is.)
 
Nothing new to report except that Eyetoy Play 2 w/eyetoy rings up as $9.99 used. It was already reported as $7.50 new, which is why I grabbed it. The copy I picked up was sealed, so I have no idea why it had a used sticker on it. I didn't bother to go back and complain about the extra $2.50 I was charged. Not a bad used price if you can't find it new. I saw a few used copies of Antigrav w/Eyetoy that were marked around $35...I bet they ring up around $10 too...as new copies are now $5.

Also, several Gamerush stores I've visited have condensed their new game sections down to one or two racks...some have rearranged the entire store to dedicate half the video game area back to DVDs. Used game sections have been condensed down as well. None of the stores really need the space though, I wonder if they're making room for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray sections. It seems likely that Blockbuster would expand those sections this year as high-definition discs slowly get cheaper and gain more popularity.

I went to 5 Gamerush stores and didn't see a single copy of Disgaea 2 or Valkyrie Profile 2. I found Okami 3 times...but all 3 times it was just an empty display box and they couldn't find the actual game.

I did buy WTF, Ultimate Ghost & Goblins, Final Fantasy V, and a few others. Passed on Street Fighter Alpha for PSP and a few others, hoping for 75% off. Most stores I visited only had the games from the first clearance marked correctly (and not all of them in most cases). Only a couple stores actually had the new games marked correctly. Hopefully I'll still be able to pick up some good PS2 and PSP stuff when everything goes to 50% off.

Crud. My Blockbuster had two of those display boxes for Suikoden V that I saw, and I was probably going to pick one up... Sounds like they may not even be there though...hope that isn't the case :(

My local Gamerush's were pretty picked over(appearantly someone came in last night and grabbed all the good stuff... according to the employees) but I was able to acore these:

The only reason I was able to get these was that they were crammed into one of the drawers behind the counter. The employee found them while digging around for Justice League for me.

I know someone has been asking about Champions so, yes it is on clearance. Apparently, I beat the gaming staff to the punch as all but one were unaware of the expansion and the last guy was just about to do the new tags when I was there this afternoon. Strangely enough the Xbox section (non clearance games) was bleak, but it has always been full even a few weeks ago. I missed out on TOCA 3, Call of Duty 2, Ninja Gaiden and MK Armegeddon at the least. Wonder if a hoarder got there before me?

I'm pretty sure 360 Just Cause is $25. It was in the first clearance for that price and I haven't heard any of those dropping again yet.
