OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).
Guys, I read through the last few pages and I didn't see this posted and I hope it's not YMMV.

So, when I was at Gamerush earlier today, I went to look for Castlevania for PS1 to see if it was marked down to $6.99. To my surprise, it was already stickered at $6.99, so I picked on up and went back to looking for some good next-gen used games. For some reason, I remained oblivious to the prices of the other PS1 games. Now, a few mintues later I went back to look at the new PS1 games again when something caught my eye...Final Fantasy IX for $6.99. I was quite surprised, then, as I began to look at the other games on the shelf, I noticed that ALL new PS1 games had been marked down to $6.99. "Hot damn!" I thought to myself, so I grabbed a copy of Chrono Cross and made my way to the register. Getting 3 great PS1 games for $6.99 was pretty awesome, I didn't think it could get any better...But it did...The cashier reminded me that new PS1 games are "Buy 1 get 1 Free." I nearly shat myself right then and there, she told me to go pick up another PS1 game and then I can complete my purchase. 4 brand new, top-notch PS1 games for $14?!

I hope this is universal for all GR's (BB?).
nice :D

Good find. Especially if you don't already have them.

Anyone know where I can pick up two cheap games to trade into GR? Getting bonus credit would be nice but not necessary (i.e I pay 2, they give 4), but I really just want to snag that Jak 3 to complete the trilogy (espically now that I have the penny guide!).

I'm mostly looking at eligible games 3 dollars and under, I was thinking Madden 2004 but I don't know what else?

That's truly a great deal if you missed out on the PSX gems like Chrono Cross
That's truly a great deal if you missed out on the PSX gems like Chrono Cross
He was lucky his Gamerush had so many great games like that.

The ones here only had Road Rash 3D, Namco Museum Vol 1, ATV something or other, Metal Gear Solid, and FF 8.

One of them had MM Legends 2, but I had nothing to pair it with so passed. But yeah, the 6.99 price should be universal.

And I think this got lost in the posting also - All NES Classics are 9.99 now, and come up 4.99 after 50% off.

Update from My DL today - company voicemail

Trade 3 get 1 preowned for $5 will be ending by June 20th. (not sure if it will be in the new map this thursday, as usual I will update asap).

All New Retail Ps1 are in fact going to $6.99 and do work with the buy 1 get 1 free.
Stores are having to overide themselves so some may be VERY VERY behind. (like mine, I won't have it till 5pm tomorrow probably) Just get a price chec or something

D'oh! I got Jak III using the trade 2/$29.99 deal and have been looking EVERYWHERE (8 Best Buy's in the DC area) for the penny guide. I did find a R&C UYA guide though and I haven't played that yet either, so it was worth the search (I did get a few other guides as well!).

As to your question - I'm not really sure, but the Best Buy $4.99 games are probably your best bet, if you can find any. Pickings were pretty slim in the DC area this week, but i found out about the sale a few days too late. I still managed to find a Tomb Raider today though.

By the way, I just called a BB to see what GBA THUG trades for (since it is $5 at Best Buy) - it gets a whopping $2... Not worth it.

I snagged the last two copies of Astro Boy today, and those were pretty much the last 4.99 games in the area. Traded one today, tried the other when I got home - the game is definately not for me. My EB has some extra Xevious's for GBA for 2.99... might snag one of those with some leftover credit.

Does anyone know how much GBA games usually get in credit, and do they give more credit for box and manual?

I'm thinking the last game might be Nightmare of Druaga... EB has a huge stack of them for sale at 9.99, supposedly GR gives $18... today will be the day they lower that to around $3 with my luck :p

So if new PSX games are all $7 does that mean used games will drop as well or is it just GH titles that will shift to fit the price?

Yah most GBA games have pretty low trade in from what i've seen.

All the best buys around me are pretty much dried up for any free 4.99 games and even the 9.99 ones are very hard to come buy.

Sad the deal is ending but they really needed to do something about the deal... man every GR near me hardly has a single title over $34.99 :( and is filled to the brim with titles that are 4.99-6.99. If they ever run this deal (or the add $5 to trade-in) again they need to exclude trade-in titles that have a value under 9.99 or even 12.99.

Off topic, I know, but does anyone know what the closest Gamerush is to Pittsburgh, PA? I'm fairly certain Ohio has GR's, but I don't know where the closest one would be.

Echo Night Beyond (PS2) - ~$8-12ish ? / $25
Nightmare of Druaga (PS2) - $9.99 (new only) / ($18)
Ghost in the Shell SAC (PS2) - $18 / ($20)
Inu Yasha (PS2) - $18 / ($18)
Lifeline (PS2) - $5.99 / ($8 ?)
Auto Modellista (PS2) - $3.99 / ($5)
Galidor (GBA) - $3.99 / ($4)
Eve of Extincion - $3.99 / ($4)
Eternal Ring - $3.99 / ($3)

Kinda far from what I understand, thats where my old sm just moved and she said there was no Game Rush stores there yet

no gamerushes in dayton either..closest one is on the way to cincinnati, about 30 mins away.

I spoke to the bb people about 8 months ago and they said "BB is adding 500 gamerush stores per month"..you'd think that cities like Dayton, Pittsburgh, etc would get them sooner than later.

No kidding - here's some MAJOR metro areas that have none (and all happen to be places I visit frequently :)): SF Bay Area, Arizona (Phoenix/Tucson), and last but not least, WASHINGTON DC!

damn! the trade 3 get 1 for $5 is ending and i haven't really gotten any games that i wanted. i still want to pick up jak 3, ratchet & clank:uya and maybe midnight club 3. is there any other word from other GR employees that the deal is going to be over nationwide?

im fine with the fact that the trade 3 get any used game for $5 is ending. i feel really bad for the local gamerushes around me. they are all getting screwed over. havent done the deal once, but i will do it tomorrow. ill trade 3 good games to them too. lumines, twisted metal head on, and a sealed crash and burn (they sell for $20, $12 profit for them), and i am picking up SW:Episode II:RoTS since the lightsaber action looks fun. the trade 2 get any game for $29.99 is my preferred deal anyway.

question: i preordered ninja gaiden black using the trade 2 get any game for $30, so do you think i can move the preorder onto burnout revenge since the deal didnt save me any money?

also, my gamerushes arent taking any preorders on next generation games. they told me they are in the system, but they cant take any deposits on them since the prices arent finalized.

lately, ive gotten a ton of games. got UC2 like 10 days ago, got advent rising and midnight club 3 5 days ago, and tomorrow, im getting san andreas and episode III revenge of the sith. nice that i have a little collection now since i only had chaos theory 2 weeks ago. just need some more time to play these.

What's average turnaround on new games for you guys? I'd like to snag a GTA SA XB before the trade 3 deal ends, but I don't know if it's worth going in all the time before the 20th.
Update from My DL today - company voicemail

Trade 3 get 1 preowned for $5 will be ending by June 20th. (not sure if it will be in the new map this thursday, as usual I will update asap).
Does anyone know if this (deal ending on 6/20) applies to BlockBuster as well?

No GR in my area but I've traded in some of my old sports titles at BB for:
WWE: Smackdown vs Raw
KOTR II

I saw a Jade Empire LE at one store but passed since I already have a copy. I even saw Fight Night Rd. 2 (sealed but marked "$44.99 Previously Played"). I want to go back before this deal ends and get Mercenaries, DBZB 3 and SW:Battlefront.

traded:

robin hood defender $4.50
goblin commander $5
nightmare of druaga $18

got world tour soccer PSP for $5.

i was about to do a preorder, i brought in skies of arcadia legends(gc) and baldurs gate (ps2) but they only offered me $5 and $3 respectively so i held onto those.

Call it a hunch but i think nightmare of druaga will drop in price tomorrow.
Well, I made the trip up to my Blockbuster (Commerce) yesterday, and the store is in pretty rough shape. I guess we're now getting about 500 trades per week, but the majority of those are from flippers. There's 6-8 guys that come in every day and flip. The worst part is that our district leader has left messages on our store's voicemail saying that there's really nothing that can be done about the flippers except don't let them trade in games that they bought earlier that day.

For some reason, my co-workers allow the flippers to do the trade 3, get any used game for $5 deal as many times as they want each day. I checked out a couple trade reports and saw that one guy had done the deal to get six games for $5 on Saturday. This is just ridiculous and blatant abuse of a great deal.
The store manager wasn't in, but I started running a bunch of ideas through co-workers. I think the most effective way to handle this is limit the deal to once per day per customer. As Cory does, I would be willing to let a customer do the deal 2 or 3 times if I knew that they were trustworthy.

My store manager doesn't work again until Tuesday. I'm going to stop at work then and run the idea by him. It seems that right now my co-workers are letting the flippers run rampant and are the taking the "there's really nothing we can about it" approach. A lot of people are glad to see me back, as they're sick of dealing with these pain-in-the-ass customers. I can't wait until I next work to personally enforce new restrictions on those who have been abusing the deal.
90% of the people at Commerce are cool as hell, so I'm not surprised. I know the manager you're talking about. Tell him 2k5 still beats Madden any day.

Free advice from someone who made out ridiculously with this deal last time:

Do not stress and think this deal is going away completely. It will come back sometime during the summer, possibly Fall and into the Christmas season.

Rule of thumb is to do unto others. You think they (the employees) don't know wtf you're doing? They were the first ones on this shit last year and even now are spreading the knowledge on down to us. Just be fuckin' nice to them for Chrissakes and don't have a "ha-ha I'm getting over" snotty attitude. Talk games with them. Talk women. Talk whatever, just treat them with some fuckin' respect. Pretty soon they'll joke with you about what you're doing and get very cool with you. I was telling one guy about an asshole I encountered at another BB and his perspective was that he shouldn't act like a "Blockbuster God" (his words) and to stop taking his job so fucking seriously...the cool, down to earth guys that work at BB actually frown on those other assholes that make them look bad...so if you get a hypocrite or a prick on a power trip, don't be afraid to be a dick (see example of how above).

Also, keep your shit organized. Make a spreadsheet listing what games you've returned and received from what Blockbuster along with dates, times and who was working. This is the best way to keep track and avoid the 2 per day rule (which applies to every blockbuster, not just one particular one, and applies to trade ins AND trade outs), and it also allows you to figure out how long you've held onto a particular game so IF you decide to return it to the same store, you can simply say you beat it. You'll greatly reduce your chances of being banned if you do this.

Also, re: banned

Banning occurs by district (at least it did last year)...each district is governed by a District Manager. You can see the name of the DM usually on a sign behind the counter somewhere. If you get banned at one store, you should be able to trade at another that falls within a different district. That whole consolidating accounts bullshit is just that -- bullshit. Knowing what stores fall into each district will also allow you to trade similar titles easier.

Finally, re: "illegal"

It isn't. The worse they can do is ban you. Nobody's calling the fucking feds on you unless you traded stolen games or bootlegs...and if you're doing that, you deserve to get caught. What people are engaging in is called "Arbitrage", which basically means that in any capatalist society there is always a chance to buy low and sell high. That's what you're doing, and it's something that the big corporations do all the fucking time. You think they haven't exploited loopholes like this at a larger level to make millions upon millions of dollars, but far be it from the CONSUMER to get in on it at any level...raise the drawbridge and call in the fucking calvary if that ever happens.

Actually, the employees are more likely to be ON YOUR SIDE because they were shit on by corporate for doing the same thing and got yelled at. A few guys that quit tried to do the deal and they got banned within a days because they were former employees. You think that unbalanced treatment doesn't get back to the other employees? You think there isn't resentment from them? There is. The situation is basically yours to fuck up since odds are BB employees either A) don't care, B) harbor resentment or C) will actually fucking HELP YOU if you're cool.

Don't feel bad for a second for what you're doing because it is completely LEGAL and because they have raped consumers on late fees for years. Give me a fucking break. And if you do get banned, go to fucking Netflix. BB's selection sucks anyways.

Ok, well i'd thought i'd chime in to talk about Blockbuster/Gamerush Deals--which, afterall is what this thread is all about. Apparently some of us just don't like reading comprehension.

Anyway, here is some interesting news.

All 4.99 used games have been bumped up to 6.99.

I guess this was to combat the whole flipping idea by making people spend more for their fodder, if they chose to buy them at BB/GR anyway. Not a smart move in my eyes--i mean this will just make the 15 copies of Mad Maestro that did not sell at 4.99 sit even longer on shelves at 7.99. Same with other "clearance" games now listed at 7.99

Anyway, I went in to GR tonight with

NBA Street V3 x2 ($30 each)
Forza Motorsport (30)
Eternal Darkness (1.50?)
Red Faction (1.50?)

Traded Nba Street v3, Eternal Darkness, and Red Faction for 33 credit, and picked up Star Fox Assault for $5.

Traded Nba Street v3 and Forza to get Hot Shots PSP for 29.99.

Came out with leftover credit of about 50 bucks.
Here's some of the better items in no particular order.

Things at EB: EB used price / (GR trade-in price)

Malice (PS2/XB) - $7.99 / ($11)
Echo Night Beyond (PS2) - ~$8-12ish ? / $25
Nightmare of Druaga (PS2) - $9.99 (new only) / ($18)
Ghost in the Shell SAC (PS2) - $18 / ($20)
Inu Yasha (PS2) - $18 / ($18)
Lifeline (PS2) - $5.99 / ($8 ?)
Auto Modellista (PS2) - $3.99 / ($5)
Galidor (GBA) - $3.99 / ($4)
Eve of Extincion - $3.99 / ($4)
Eternal Ring - $3.99 / ($3)
you can add mercanaries to this list:

can be bought for $25 this week at bestbuy (after the GGC coupon) and traded into GR for $30.

really any 2k4 sports title that can be had for under $5 isnt a bad deal either: esp if you are using edge card and doing the buy3 get one free at EB.

really, there are so many deals going on, it is hard not to go wrong. When gamefly runs a free shipping on select games, that isnt a bad way to load up on trade in fodder either(i got narc for $10 shipped, i think i traded it in for $7 to GR after playing the hell out of it)

the reason? well some stores are closing down. They are closing stores in Washington area..... and on the east coast. They have scouts looking into what stores to close in California. Figures, when they have managers like Virgil in the Riverside area, doing things against policy, and the district manager doesn't even know.

went to GR tonight and traded in:

wipeout pure - 22
maximo (ps2) - 1.50
frequency (ps2) - 1.50
onimusha warlords (ps2) - 1.50
amped 2 (xbox) - 7
ncaa march madness 05 (ps2) - 12.50

i picked up ratchet and clank: up your arsenal and jak 3 for 10.xx and i had some credit left over so i picked up granstream saga, metal gear solid, tekken 2, dark stone, and mega man anniversary edition for $15. and i still made it out with some credit left over.
Dies anyonre know if BB will have GTA:Sa today for those of us who preordered it?
That's going to be entirely on a store-to-store basis. Some will have it today, some will have it tomorrow, some will have it Thursday. I'm actually going to wait a few days before picking up my reserved copy. I'm guessing someone will trade it in within a week and I'll just use the Trade 3 deal to pick it up used and then switch my pre-order over to something later this year.

Went to GR last night and traded in:

Vexx (Xbox) = $3
Ghost Recon (Xbox) = $7
Final Fantasy CC (GC) = $10
Almost traded Phantasy Star online Ep 1 &2 (GC) = $11

and picked up nfsu2 for xbox

I guess you are right. I went up to BB and asked if they got it in today. First someones says no not till the 10th. Then someone else says no it might be in the big stack of UPS boxes that came in today. Then a third person says no DHL usually brings the games. So I still have no idea, I will have to check later today I guess.

I would have traded my preorder in had I still been able to trade, I order Liberty for my PSP, so I don't need multiple copies. But alas, I can't trade to GR so I'll have to trade my copy to GS or EB.

My GR had Um Jammer Lammy PSx new. Is this rare, or hard to find? I have never seen it before. I have heard of it though, isn't it parrapa the rapper 2?

Should I pick it up for $6.99?

Um Jammer Lammy (PS1) is the best version compare to Parrapa Rapper 2 (average) for $6.99 is steal (don't forget Buy 1 get 1 FREE)
Which Version Mario Party on GC is the BEST ??
MP6 has the mic but i read it was poorly implemented.

I'm not a Mario Party expert but 4 seems to be the best... MP4 seemed to have more 2-on-2 games... I own MP5 and it's kind of a wanky (and they took out DK)... but then again, it might be a case of the grass always seems greener on the other side (since I only rented MP4).

Just to let everyone know: Nightmare of Druaga is still getting $18 and Astro Boy is still getting $8 in trade. I figured I'd post that in case anyone was worried that the prices dropped today.

Your best bet to move credit from GR to EB at the moment is EB's N64 + 6 games = $50 credit deal.

At worst, it's $20 for the system, & $20 for 6 $4.99 games (with B2G1). Once you've done it once, it's actually much easier to get more N64 games at EB w/ credit to do it again (there are quite a few $1.49 / $1.99 non-excluded games).

i went in today and i got fatal frame 2 (ps2) and metal gear solid: twin snakes (cube) and got tekken tag (ps2) for free with the b2g1. i was going to pick up suikoden III, but i passed. has anyone seen any copies of suikoden IV at any GRs in southern california?
