These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Now I'm really glad I decided to trade in all of my high value games last week for the 40%. This is only good for stuff that's around $2.50-10.00.

on there site is says the 25% bonus towards LA Nori, MK, and Portal ends on 4/17. Does anyone know if it is still running?

It costs 1,000 PUR points, and only works towards those games, ugg

That looks like a 25% bonus + 10% Edge/Powerup bonus. If you bought one of those 50% bonus coupons from the Powerup website, you got screwed. Take your receipt back in, along with another copy of that coupon, and see if a manager can fix it for you.

Edit: Note that those 50% coupons only apply if you were trading towards specific games. If you took credit on your card, it wouldn't have worked.

hmm...Calculating what you traded in, with bonuses and everything you should have gotten $106.40.

Did you buy Mortal Kombat or Portal 2 using that coupon? Cause i think that's the reason like DJP519 said earlier.

It appears 3 is worth $10 and possibly not tiered. I traded in 8 games yesterday and got $10 bonus. I originally had thought it was the 30% because the cashier didn't seem to know what promo was going on either, but now I'm thinking I got $10 extra. I'm guessing there's some restrictions because I had a few games worth less than $2. I only had 5 games worth more than the $2. And I think accessories aren't part of the deal because I traded in plenty of those and saw nothing, not surprisingly.

For people that got the extra $10, is it Promo #11106 on your receipt?

Yeah, I put it towards Mortal Kombat. I don't think I can get another copy of the coupon as I printed it out at a friend's house, since I didn't have internet over the past week.

EDIT: Just noticed I can print another copy of the coupon, but my damn printer is out of black ink. fucking hell.

Does anyone know if you can put it toward Mk or Portal, then just return the game and get the credit back? Or will they make a big fuss about it since they want you to only put it towards those 2 games?

I don't want either game, I just want the extra 50% TIV.

I doubt it. I just printed the coupon and the title reads "50% bonus on games traded toward MK or portal 2"
 
Portal 2 PS3 - $24

Traded it in after redeeming the PC copy. I put it towards a 3ds game and got 32.40 after the bonus 10% and 6 dollars for getting a 3ds game (Theyre still doing that deal here).
 
I have a question about the extra 25% credit for trade-ins towards a purchase of Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, and LA Noire. If I trade in $100 worth of games and get that extra $25, do I have to use the entire $125 on those games or can I just spend $60 to buying Mortal Kombat and put the rest on a gift card? The reason I ask is because the offer description says "Full trade value amount must be applied toward pre-order/purchase of a new copy of LA Noire, Mortal Kombat, Portal 2.'

EDIT: Oh and does the extra 50% trade-in credit coupon for PUR members work the same way?

They will use whatever it costs to pay off the game you choose out of those choices you have, and whatever is leftover they will put back on your PUR card.

And yes, the coupon works the same way. Apparently the coupon doesn't scan right though, as I got gypped out of about $20 in credit. Going back to the store later today once my girlfriend gets back from work with my car. Meanwhile I emailed GS customer service. Might call them if I don't get a timely response. :booty:
 
I emailed customer service about my trade-in credit mistake. They told me a DM will give me a call in a couple of days.

Yeah when I had a mess up on my trade, I called CS and they gave me the DMs number and I called him. He contacted the store and I went back in there and got it worked out.
 
I am about 90% sure it is trade 3 for an extra $10 only. Nothing about tiers. The little ad thing they plan on the TV said so in between the Carnival Games commercial and Duke Nukem interview.

100% accurate. I traded in 9 games total in one transaction and got $30 extra on top of my edge bonus.

Only SSFIV3DE's TIV changed.

Also, that Portal/MK 50% TIV coupon is completely broken. The employee had to call her manager to ask what to do, and ended up not using the coupon at all and had to manually override all the trade-ins by hand. Took about 10 minutes to sort it all out... but she was nice and patient about it ^.^

Yeah, I found out the hard way. Hopefully the DM in my area will be nice enough and allow the TIVs to be changed to what they should have been in the first place.

Well it works if u trade in 2 or fewer games I guess as my transaction was just trade KZ 3 & purchase of MK. That sucks for others.

The PUR 1000 point coupon for the 50% bump had an expiration date of 6/30/11

Ok, thanks. Another question: lets say I have about $100 base of games I want to trade in. With the coupon I'd end up getting $150. However, since Portal 2 is only a $60 game, what would happen to the additional credit over the $60? Would I still get the extra 50% bonus even though I went over what Portal 2 costs? Just wondering since I have a ton of stuff to trade in and wanted to see if I could get the extra 50% on everything and just have the additional credit put on a GC.

The coupon is supposed to work on "all games traded in" but there seems to be some form of glitch with it (as there always is with GS promos) where you wind up not getting full value for everything. If you see my post at the top of page 4, I wound up getting $89 in credit opposed to the $106-ish of what I was supposed to receive with the coupon.

If you trade in over the amount of the cost of the game (over 59.99 + tax) the credit will just go back on your card/account for future use. So yeah, you can trade in as much stuff as you want, but make sure it is all getting the 50% value bump before you leave the store so you don't have to deal with it later.

You can put all the rest on a gift card or your PUR account, it's fine. The lady ringing me up sort of pressed me really hard to buy something since I had credit left over and I just bought a $20 PSN card since I didn't want to pre-order anything and well... yeah. You don't have to though, if you want to keep saying no to them. Or maybe they won't ask you :p

I traded in all of those with the PUR card and the 50% extra credit when applied towards Portal 2/Mortal Kombat. The coupon still wasn't working because it seemed like an extra 25% promo was overriding it. The employee manually overrode all of the trade-in values to get it to the correct amount.
 
this coupon is a fraud or i got ripped off!

I decided to trade in two games with the coupon. But the stupid girl at GS only gave me credit for one of them, saying the coupon says trade in CREDIT (not credits)" but it clearly says 50% trade in credit of GAMES. should i call the DM to get my extra $6 credit...

EDIT: just went to a different gamestop. the guy there ended up giving me the $6 in credit on an edge card. GIRLS should not be allowed to work at gamestop, u dumb broad
