Grand Theft Auto IV - First Trailer 3/29/2007

To anyone complaining about how Rockstar is going back to NYC, I'm pretty sure you've never been to NYC. Liberty City was nothing like NYC. I never felt like I was there like I felt like I was in Miami or LA in the other GTA games. I always hoped they would make a real Liberty City, just like NYC. It looks like they did.

I just don't understand how they plan on mixing liberty city and NYC. Obviously everything about it is NYC, but you also see bits and pieces of Liberty city.

Wasn't this footage taken from the Spider-Man 3 game:p The visuals are awesome, but my one concern is flying. Being able to fly in GTA:SA was fucking awesome, but I feel with the game modeling itself after New York this feature will be omitted. Wow, can you imagine what the game the game will look/play like in 6 months. Just from the teaser you can tell Rockstar isn't playing around allowing the competition to one up them.
The ship in the trailer says Liberty City on the back of it, so it looks like the location is going to be Liberty City.
I think the only reason they aren't calling it New York City is so that Hillary Clinton won't lead a coalition banning it in the United States.
Pretty awsome looking, cant wait to see it in action.
But it isn't an exclusive! Multi-platform games are stupid and dumb and I hate them 'cause they're smelly!
I was guess serbian and he looks serbian. He looks like the dude from Behind Enemy Lines. The sniper dude that chases Owen Wilson.
The actor who played the sniper is actually Vladimir Mashkov, who is Russian. In fact, PSX Extreme has theorized that Vladimir may be the basis for this character's design. They have a comparison pic at their site:

I really hope they change the gameplay. VC and SA were fun but I didn't finish either of them because it just kind of got boring... plus, SA was too big.
Damn it, yet another GTA taking place in a NYC-like place:bomb: LA...Miami...NYC...Chicago gets no love:cry:
I was hoping for Chicago, too.

Woohoo I knew it, New York! :)
Lets hope for good things...

by the way - have any one noticed the 'Next american hooker' thingy? XD
I would like to see one in the DFW area just because it is my hometown, but I'd be down with any other MSA.
Grand Theft Auto: Dallas

Hehe, never going to happen.
But it'd be pretty cool to see.

The next one should be in Detroit. You'd be able to fly or drive/jump across the river to Windsor and hit the titty bars and casinos there.

is this game coming out on the ps3 too? so far all ive heard is its gonna be on the 360 and if it is a 360 exclusive do you think they will ruin it with microtransactions. being a long time fan of the gta series since it started on ps2 id hate to see it get gutted and screwed over by them forcing gamers to buy new vehicles and weapons and stuff. or having to pay to unlock areas. and will the ps3 be doing microtransactions as well or will their games be pretty much same as always?

and as far as diff places for gta to be in id love to see it in rio dejanero , ireland or japan. the yakuza would be a great group to base the story around especially since that sega yakuza sucked to badlly. be a young street hood trying to work your way into the yakuza and the street races there would be awesome.

pretty sweet.. i hope this game manages a more serious feel w/o becoming TOO gritty and violent. the GTA games always have a light hearted feel even though you're blowing people's heads off, etc..

and they could really have a good story with an ex Russian mobster trying to go straight, but inevitably getting sucked back into the life, etc.

i'm pretty excited actually :)

Yes it will be ruined. There are already extra missions and crap scheduled for the 360 version. So basically you don't get the full game if you don't buy the extra missions or get the PS3 version.

Possible season change??

They're both going to be the same retail version. The 360 gets exclusive content later, and I think the PS3 may too. I can't remember what Rockstar Guy said about that.

...I dont think you get it.

Its Liberty City in the form of New York City, Liberty City was based on New York, theyre just expanding it.

I think they're pretty much recreating NYC but calling it Liberty City so they don't get absolutely owned by politicians.

IDK what the hell you're talking about or who you heard that from. Like someone else said, both versions will be the same retail version, while specifically mentioned by Rockstar, the 360 version will receieve some episodic content later on. Expect the same to come to the PS3 version, there's too much money to be made. That is unless, MS struck some kind of deal to keep the episodic content exclusive, who knows.
I think they're pretty much recreating NYC but calling it Liberty City so they don't get absolutely owned by politicians.
basically yeah.

The 360 version has always been planned to have exclusive content via downloads. It doesn't matter whether the retail versions are the same. Exclusive content is exclusive content and that means that when it comes out your PS3 version will be incomplete because eveyrone else will be playing extra missions that expand on the story, have more guns, etc. Maybe Sony will get it too, but as of right now the only surety is that the exclusive content is for the 360 and no one else.

I think they're pretty much recreating NYC but calling it Liberty City so they don't get absolutely owned by politicians.

It's always been liberty city. It has nothing to do with politicians, lawsuits or hilary clinton.

??? You're talking as if the PS3 version will be absolutely inferior because you somehow absolutely need to purchase the extra content that will be available for the 360. It's like saying Oblivion sucks on the PS3 because you don't have the option to download Shivering Isles.

I don't see how "my" PS3 version (I don't own a PS3) will be incomplete. If Rockstar delivers a fully fledged game within the disc, I don't see how it's incomplete. Again, it's like saying without the Shivering Isles, the PS3 Oblivion is not a full game.

But I do see your point in the thick of things. Fans of GTA who buy the PS3 version will undoubtedly be disappointed when they finish the game, but see their friends who bought the 360 version enjoying the new missions, story, guns, etc. But their friends still paid for that extra content, so its not a complete screwjob.

Also, yeah it's always been Liberty City. But really, its NYC. Statue of Liberty, Grand Union Station, Times Square, MetLife building....all landmarks of NYC. If Rockstar went ahead and just called the game GTA4: NYC, politicians would have an absolute field day with them. If Rockstar fully recreated portions of NY, which they obviously have done, politicians would accuse Rockstar of making a even more realistic murder/terrorism game simulation. But, since they're calling it "Liberty City" Rockstar has at least the defense to say, "Oh no, it's a fictional city!"

Also found a really really cool comparison of real life photos vs the trailer screenshots from digg:

I watched the trailer again, just more slowly, and noticed a lot of variety in what the pedestrians were doing or carrying.

The pedestrians in the trailer carried or held:
grocery bags
shopping bags
briefcases
some smoked while they walked
I think some had a music player
some are reading a newspaper or book while they walk
some talked on their cell phone or were looking at it
those near the freighter had wood or tools in their hands
and there will probably be more when we see more areas around Liberty City.

Was there not info released that said both 360 and Ps3 will have extra download content.

Yep, I'm too lazy to find a source right now, but PS3 is DEFINITELY getting exclusive content as well,

Well, GTAIII did have a man walking around with a picture of a penis on a notepad.

LOL, I remember that. I found all the glitches/easter eggs in GTA 3... even some barely anyone knows about.

I'm willing to bet that the 360 and PS3 will get different exclusive content. That way Sony and MSoft will be happy that they have some exclusivity, and hardcore GTA fanboys will have to buy the game twice for two different consoles.

And before you flame me, look at how many times they released LOTR.

Haha. I missed that one. Some of the dialogue was pretty funny by the NPCs, though:

"Yep. I've been drinkin' again."

I'm betting that at some point they will do Japan. Esp if they want to sell more games in foreign markets.

One of the best from San Andreas:

After I pulled a large black lady out of her vehicle, she exclaimed "First my period, now this. Ain't that a bitch?!"

What about some of the stuff the cops say.

"Stop me can hold hands and talk about it"

"This guy is a track star"
