I went to gamestop today. At first the ps3 rang up 160, but once he finalized it the promo kicked in for the full 200. He didnt seem aware of the deal. :/

120gb ps3 - 200.00
God of War (ps2 greatest hits) - 4.00
God of War 2 (ps2 greatest hits) - 5.25
Animal Crossing gamecube 59 block memory card - 5.25

I was into the store in Hornell, NY today and I tried the extra 25% towards a new release, the guy didn't tell me it wouldn't work for dead rising 2 and wouldn't try the code, so I told him that I wasn't going to be trading the games and walked out. I want my extra 35% or else it isn't worth it.
You can return it to the store. If you bought new, then it must be returned sealed. If used, you can return it how it came. I believe the return limit is 30 days.
New and sealed returns are 30 days. Used returns are 7 days.
New and sealed returns are 30 days. Used returns are 7 days.
Isn't the return window on used games extended to 30 days for online orders though?

7 days is a quick turn around on gs.com orders when it sometimes takes them a day or two to process; not to mention having weekends possibly delay a delivery.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/help/Returns.aspx

Doesn't specify used or new in that information, though it does say "We reserve the right to limit returns to unopened or defective products.", so they do have an out for used / opened items.

In-store return policy on used items:
Used (pre-owned) merchandise and opened new accessories may be returned for a refund within 7 days of purchase or exchanged for the identical item within 30 days of purchase.
Link to the store return policy is listed on the above page.
Isn't the return window on used games extended to 30 days for online orders though?
My receipt that was packed in with the used SSFIV I purchased through Gamestop.com stated a 14-day return period on used games. That was a couple months ago though, so I'm not sure if it's still the same.

This is why I never buy sports games NEW. $130 for both games new after tax .... $4 + edge/bonus a year later. What a rip. Why do people keep buying these? No offense to you or your bro punisher.

It is a rip, but Madden 11 is coming out in exactly 1 week. If GS were to offer anything around $10-$15 for it now, everyone would gladly trade in their Madden 10 copies and wait a week for the newer one.

I honestly can't tell if you're surprised that the TIV is that high, or that low. Could read that either way.

This is what you do with sports games now:

1) Buy 2 copies utilizing those credits that Amazon/Walmart/GS give. Lets use Walmart in this scenario. You'll use those $20 credits for something down the line.
2) Sell 1 copy on launch day for $50 minimum.
3) Madden/NCAA are useless after their respective seasons. Sell your other copy for $25.
4) In the end:

$60 + $60 - $20 - $20 + $10 tax - $50 - $25 = $15 lost in the end for around 5 months of Madden. And that's at the low end of my estimates. I sold a copy of Madden 10 in June for $20.

Unless you have a lot of friends who play Madden all year long, there's no point in keeping that game past the Super Bowl. Online multi-player sucks unless you know the people you're playing. I rather be cheesed by somebody I know who I can rag on, then some idiot who thinks he's "great on the sticks" and pumping his e-cred.

So my 60GB PS3 is overheating non-stop unless I blow a fan on it constantly. Gonna trade it in, but I don't have the original HDD at my place.

Do you need a hard drive when you trade it in? I plan on keeping the 500gb one I have, so I don't really have one to give to them.

Its overheating cuz there tons of dust inside of it...especially under HD and fan. i completely took mine apart and got all the dust out. It's quiet as a mouse now. If your handy i'd try that.

Agreed...I had a 40gb YLOD on me and when I opened it up,I was amazed at the amount of dust. It was fricken incredible. Did the heat gun thing on youtube. 1st time lasted 2 weeks. 2nd time lasted over a month and I sold it on ebay (and yes I did disclose its past problem).

What if I don't have the composite cables and have an HDMI cable to trade them? I'm buying my buddy's for cheap and I'm not sure that he has the composite cables...

Is it any surprise really? You buy Madden 11 brand new for $60 plus tax, and you could open it, and turn around and trade it back in five minutes later, and it's worth a third of that. Then they either mark it pre-owned and get $55 from it, or I wouldn't be surprised if they just kept it as a gutted copy and sell it brand new.

Still, $2.50 is a joke. Should be at least $5-$8 or so. They'd still sell it for around $20-$30 I bet.

$25 used/$30 new when I checked earlier I believe. I was looking at picking it up, but thats still too expensive for me.

It's all about supply and demand. Each store probably has like 20 copies of Madden 10 used so might as well offer minimum for trade in since most of them will sit on the shelf till they are under $5.

I'm actually shocked that you get so much for those games now, I personally wouldn't buy old Maddens for $5 bucks, so I don't know why Gamestop would when they most likely have a dozen copies, and will get about 50 more when people buy Madden 2011

Well, most of the people who buy games every year like that don't worry about its value. They know it'll be worthless in a short amount of time, but they want the updated players, rosters, etc. (what do I know about Madden...). They're not cheapsses like us looking to save as much as possible. They just want 1-3 of the updated sports games every year.

It isn't like me buying something like Halo 3, which is still a lot of fun even now, 3 years later. If you want everything new in a sports game, you have to buy it every year. Playing Madden '10 now is just stupid for them.

Luckily I'm not a sports gamer ;)

long time lurker......
I traded a 40g ps3 for the 200 cred and put it towards a 4g 360, didn't know there would be no tax because I used credit...My question is if i changed my mind and want to go with the 250g 360, will I have to pay sales tax because it is not all covered with credit?
thanks

You'll have to pay tax on the difference..example, if your tax is 7%, you'd pay $107.
Isn't it past it's warranty?
Pretty sure GameStop and such don't take consoles that have the warranty sticker removed, right?

Same thing with Sony's $150 repair service? I might be wrong on that one, but it makes sense in my mind that they wouldn't.

Sony will repair it w/o sticker and im almost sure GS takes them w/o sticker.
Sony will repair it w/o sticker and im almost sure GS takes them w/o sticker.
Yeah. Sony will repair the console without a warranty sticker, but only if you pay the $150(or more) repair cost. But if you expect to get in-warranty service, the sticker has to be intact AND you have to have a copy of your purchase receipt to send in with the console.

As for Gamestop taking a PS3 w/o a warranty sticker, that's YMMV. If the employee checks and notices there's no warranty sticker on the system they may take it in as a broken console, which gives you a fraction of the usual amount you'd get and as expected NO bonus promos would apply to it.

This is before i cleaned my PS3...YUK. I also took those 3 screws of fan and sucked all that dust out from around the fan edges (cooling fins). It was totally plugged up. You can kinda see it in the pic.

Do yourself a favor and clean it out..it's easy.
So I went into GS today to do th Trade 2 for 40 towards Madden 11. When the guy went to go ring in my trades..the computer wasnt ringing up the promo...therefore he used the backup promo barcode and he didnt give me the extra 10% for my EDGE card....It really isnt a big deal to me but is there anyway I could get the 10% for the game?..
Any suggestions?

Damn man. I could only imagine what the inside of my buddies' families PS3 looks like with TEN cats in their household.:puke:

Mind ya, my house isn't a clean room, but I try to keep my PS3 as dust free as possible. But it seems like the PS3 is made to suck in the dust like a vacuum.

LOL ahaha CLASSIC! That's awesome man!
That's a good call cause cameras are kind like games after a few years they are worth very little. I just gave an old SONY camera to goodwill that cost me bout $400 in maybe '01. It had a 64mb memory stick that came with it.
The wierd thing is I also had a Cannon EOS (non rebel) film camera from '92. I got a digital EOS Rebel Xsi a year and a half ago and the old 16yr. old telephoto lens still worked with the new body! Paid a sh*tload fro it back then...glad its still useable, as the film style body really isn't.

oh yeah,
8/1 new super mario ds 17.00

LOL, i found it last year. Nothing special, its a Kodak EasyShare C643 6.1 megapixel. Gets the job done.

So, I have 2 PS3s, one that's BC and one I'm buying from my buddy to trade in on this deal...is the YLOD guaranteed to happen? Or has everyone on this forum just gotten extremely paranoid. I'd like to keep my BC ps3 but if it's going to fail..maybe I should invest in a slim? I dunno what to do.
