Guess the Game from the Sound Clip

Unoriginal, Hazuki and Bluewing got 'em :)
Updated OP with links to your sound clips. Dude these are hot! You recorded them yourself?
 i wish. I decided to not upload any of mine out of laziness(and that most of them are unrecognizable noise.) 3 are by a band-- extra cookies for whoever guesses right. Hint: not the minibosses ;-)

and the first one was done by......I forget his name. the guy who did the music for Xenosaga.

Nice! Looks like we have five more correct answers:

5. Mr. Do
8. Defender of the Crown
14. Golden Axe
16. Rambo
18. Yie Ar Kung Fu

Heheh I love this thread! :D

B. Goonies 2 Theme (Goonies 'R Good Enuf) technically it's from Goonies 1 also...
D. Castlevania! Vampire Killer (i.e. the theme...I'd have to hurt myself if I didn't recognize it)

Band = The Advantage! Goonies tipped me off. I have that mp3 on my computer somewhere. Also wanted to add that Minibosses do that song as well. :) I have their CD where they played it at the Middle East live.

Minibosses do Castlevania songs too. :)
Here's three sequenced by me. These should be fairly easy to figure out.

Test1
Test2
Test3

Whoops, is there anyone I can send them to for upload?
Round 3 is on! OP updated.

Round 3:

14 = CASLTEVANIA:SOTN (merchant music) I would have screamed if no SOTN music appeared. :)

However I am clueless on the others, though so many of them sound familiar.

WARNING, WARNING, I AM AN IDIOT, TAKE NO STOCK IN THESE WILD GUESSES.

#1 is so familiar... like Final Fantasy Tactics or Secret of Mana come to mind... probably wrong though.

#3 kinda reminds me of FF9 for some reason... like when you're flying in the airship maybe?

#5 is FF7 maybe? Cosmo Canyon is what it makes me think of.

#8 sounds like a Castlevania...

#10 reminds me of sonic... maybe sonic CD (man I loved that game... why isn't it on the sonic classics discs?!)

#11 is damn familiar too... reminds me of an RPG... not sure which one, but I really like it and I swear I've played the game it's from.

Strell is dead on with the SOTN as #14.

I swear I know #17 too... but I can't place it... argggg!

Sorry for all the wrong guesses. :whistle2:#

Four correct answers!

3. Suikoden
6. Parasite Eve (man did I love this game)
11. Wild Arms
14. Castlevania SOTN

And some good guesses on the others. You guys are right that #5 is Final Fantasy, but it's not FF7... :)
This might be way off, but is 12 that "Eyes on Me" song from FFVIII, but without the singing?
You got it! It's actually Julia's piano solo in the dream sequence when Laguna meets her for the first time. Same exact theme.

That's five correct answers for this round. Thanks everyone for the listens and guesses so far. I'll post the answers tomorrow night along with round 4.

Here are hints for the remaining clips in this round, just cause I can't stand to see PS1 games go unrecognized: :D

1. 3rd person action shooter that launched a franchise and inspired hordes of horny modders
2. mix #1 with #7 and you're sorta reminded of this
4. think PP, BGE and PP:WW
5. it's not FF7
7. stealth
8. um, anyone know rig
9. the grandaddy of its genre, inspired two bad movies, but at least she's hot
10. get behind the wheel
13. 3rd person action game involving the inexplicable breakage of many crates
15. our close cousins in the genetic pyramid temporarily get the better of us
16. great rpg whose main characters are 14 year olds. wait, that's like every rpg.
17. classic side scroller with arguably an even greater franchise than #1

Edit: Round 4 will be hosted by BlueWingX! I'll post his clips as soon as this round closes.

4 is Amagon.
8 is Pinball Quest, I think.
9 is very familiar...
10 is The Guardian Legend.
14 is Star Tropics.
16 might be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'm not sure.

Here comes my inane guessing again:

1. Crystalis
3. One of the Sonics... Maybe 2?
9. Castlevania... one of the NES ones? (at most a 16-bit version...?)
14. Reminds me of the Adventure Island Games on the SMS... remember those? It's probably not though... maybe star tropics or something?
15. Sounds kind of familiar... Zelda II maybe?

That's all I gots.
4 is Amagon.
10 is The Guardian Legend.
14 is Star Tropics.
Three points for Jack!
2 - Crystalis!

Four points for Mr. Unoriginal! (Close on 9, but not quite)
14. Reminds me of the Adventure Island Games on the SMS... remember those? It's probably not though... maybe star tropics or something?
One point for S1eepinglionhart! I'm giving you 14, since you did say Star Tropics in your answer...
1. ShadowGate
8. Deja Vu
Two points for My Name Is BoB!

So, here's the breakdown so far....

01. Shadowgate (Approaching Castle Shadowgate)

03. No Correct Answer Yet
04. Amagon (Level 1)

12. No Correct Answer Yet
13. No Correct Answer Yet
14. Star Tropics (Overworld music)
15. No Correct Answer Yet
16. No Correct Answer Yet
17. No Correct Answer Yet

I'll start giving hints later tonight... Keep trying until then! Good luck!

Encendido you beat me to #15! I was going to say it sounded like one of the Ninja Gaidens. Can't say which of the three though. This is the only one that I'm reasonably sure about. Dang, this stuff is harder than I thought.

5 is Wizards and Warriors

Edit: Wish I had checked this thread earlier. Some of these are from some of my favorite old game music (e.g. Shadowgate and Bionic Commando) but others got there first. :bomb:

16 - Maniac Mansion opening song.

and for number 9 isn't that castlevania II when it turns nighttime?
I got number 9 right...
You did, indeed. My apologies for misreading that. Three points for My Name is BoB!
11. Burger Time - I think it's the music for all the levels
15. Ninja Gaiden? Sounds like the cut scene music
11 is right. 15 is close, but I need a number. One point for encendido5!
5 is Wizards and Warriors

3 is Karnov
Right and right! Two points for Backlash! (Btw, Wizards and Warriors is The Official BlueWingX Thanksgiving Game, first won on Thanksgiving many years ago, and won every Thanksgiving day since...)
16 - Maniac Mansion opening song.

and for number 9 isn't that castlevania II when it turns nighttime?
Right and mostly right! It's actually the mansion music for Castlevania II. Still, Two points for DMFunk.

Now, for those worried about this so called point system, it's not really ranking anything. I'm coming up with a prize for all participants, so don't worry. That being said, let's look at the big board, and see how we're doing...

01. Shadowgate (Approaching Castle Shadowgate)
02. Crystalis (Field music outside of Leaf)
03. Karnov (Level 1)
04. Amagon (Level 1)
05. Wizards and Warriors (Title Screen)
06. Rygar (Area 1, I believe)
07. Bionic Commando (Again, Level 1)
08. Deja Vu (Don't remember exactly)
09. Castlevania II: Simon's Curse (Mansion theme)
10. The Guardian Legend (Boss Battle music)
11. Burgertime (Well, it's the only music it really had...)
12. No Correct Answer Yet
13. No Correct Answer Yet
14. Star Tropics (Overworld music)
15. It is a Ninja Gaiden game, but we're still waiting on the number
16. Maniac Mansion (Opening Theme)
17. No Correct Answer Yet

So, I guess it's time for some clues...

12. WILL HELP YOU!
13. You'd think you'd fight G.I. Joe in this game, but suprisingly, no...
15. It was the opening movie of one of them... Break out the roms! :) j/k
17. Look to 01 and 08 for help.

Good luck to all contestants!
15 is Ninja Gaiden II. And I didn't have to break out the roms.
17 must be Uninvited.
Absolutely right! I love the opening music from NG II. It's so haunting...
Absolutely right! I love the opening music from NG II. It's so haunting...
All this talk about Ninja Gaiden, not to mention weeks of screenshot guessing... I'm seriously tempted to pick up an old NES off of Ebay or something.

Alrighty then. My Name Is BoB has sent me a handful of midi clips that he has sequenced himself! I'll post 'em a bit later.
13 is Cobra Command
That is correct, leaving just one left to guess, so let's try and put this one to bed. Time for the extended clue!

12. Ninja School... *Arrow* WILL HELP YOU!

Final clue at 11 or so if no one has gotten it yet...

Ok, so it's past 11... sue me. I got caught up in some homework. Anyway, here's the final clue for number 12...

12: Ninja school... *arrow* WILL HELP YOU!
Game Title: K.. N...: R...... N....

And that'll do it! :)

Well, this was a fun change from the screenshot challenge. I'll be back soon with a set of SNES clips for you to wrap your brains around. Thanks to everyone who participated, and a special thanks to woobacca for not only coming up with this thread, but graciously hosting these files for our enjoyment. All participants that got at least one right answer should expect a prize sometime this weekend, as long as I don't get too busy doing other stuff. (Don't get too excited... If you've been to the screenshot challenge, you should know what type of prize to expect...) Thanks again, every one, it's been a blast! And now, one last time, here's the final answer board for round 4...

01. Shadowgate (Approaching Castle Shadowgate)
02. Crystalis (Field music outside of Leaf)
03. Karnov (Level 1)
04. Amagon (Level 1)

15. Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (Opening movie)
16. Maniac Mansion (Opening Theme)
17. Uninvited (Into the Mansion)

Thanks again BlueWing. Your sound clips this round were a lot of fun. Hosting them is really easy, so as long as you want to keep going I'll be happy to do so. I've set up a temporary email address that you or anyone else can send files to: [email protected].

Okay, round 5 is on. This is a shorter round, and all seven of these midi files have been sequenced by our very own My Name Is BoB. Check OP for links.

5 Would be the Boss Battle Music for Startropics... just needs the sound of falling in water over and over and over and over.... :D

Edit: and by 5 I ment 4 :p

4 - StarTropics Boss Theme

Any way I can play these without quicktime or just download it to my desktop so I can play them with WMP? I don't have quicktime installed on my work computer.
Any way I can play these without quicktime or just download it to my desktop so I can play them with WMP? I don't have quicktime installed on my work computer.
Looks like your PC is set up to automatically play .MID files with Quicktime. You can change this by doing the following:
1. Save any .MID file onto your PC (just grab one from VGMusic.com)
2. Right click on the file and select Open With > Choose Program...
3. Click the checkbox "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
4. Select Windows Media Player

Next time you hit the OP links, they should automatically embed WMP on the page.

If that doesn't work, you can open these URLs directly from WMP. Just replace the .HTML from the link with .MID like this:
http://webpages.charter.net/woobacca/guess01.mid
etc.
