Since everyone is asking for people to get them one when they can't find one on their own, let's try to keep the requests to this thread here:

Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
With google shopping it says some stores have it "in stock" nearby. Could that even be possible or is google shopping inaccurate?
can't rely on those. I had it show BB, radio shack, and office depot in stock, but when I called none of them had any.

Barnes and Noble:
August 22, 2011, 1:00 AM EST
Not Yet Shipped
Expected Ship Date: August 24, 2011

I heard people that placed their order through Paypal are getting "Unable to fulfill order" while people who placed by credit card are having a bit better luck. We will see how this pans out in a few more hours.
I placed my order around an our and a half ago. got one of those unable to process status and have to call. fuck you BN
did you pay with paypal?

Ordered a 16GB from B&N to go along with my 32GB from OD the other night.

I'm a bit worried about B&N not selling out yet. I have a feeling their online system won't go OOS in real time and they'll lazily cancel the flood of extra orders in the next few days. I'm not a fan of their website to say the least.

Did anyone actually NOT pay the extra $1 to have the order shipped quicker?

To those of you that ordered through K-Fart:

Although OOS, they have officially updated the page to reflect the dropped price for the 32. I'll take this as confirmation for a price adjustment after the fact.

Here's a link for verification, and they may yet get more in since they once went OOS and then suddenly had stock again.
Kmart

No GC and CC. Likely due to ordering 2 but I needed to get rid of the GC. BN also takes their sweet time when reissuing GC credit too, bastards.

Instant B&N Update:

On my Order Status page, the Shipping Status just changed to: Expected Ship Date: August 24, 2011

I still hate their website. The item I've ordered is only known to me as:

 • The details of this item are not displayed to maintain your privacy
 • UPC: ******8637
What if I ordered it drunk and forgot what it was? They're a book store, not a pron shop.

Got in on B&N just after it was posted in the Amazon thread on SD (and before it went SD frontpage). $115.xx for the 16GB version shipped. I got my email to say that it was being prepared for shipment and was expected to ship on 8/22 via UPS Ground. :)

What time did you order?

The more I read these comments... the more I think that eventually...everyone who wants one of these...will get one of these. I think HP has too much stock to completely sell out. People may just need to wait.

Tried to order again with 1 tablet and used a Visa credit card. Order time was 11:15 PST (2:15 EST). Checked status and still got the Unable to Process message.

I feel like there will be a lot of resellers disappointed in their returns on buying these things.

I think more were sold to resellers than were sold to actual people wanting to use one. It's stupid that a group of greedy people can buy something up like that and suddenly determine that in order to get one easily you have to pay them a $50 premium just because they got their first. Assholes.

I'll wait and see how the preware community handles this device. They'll probably be $50-$75 in a year.

These things are pretty slick for the price. For less than a Kindle (which I have been looking at for a while now), you get that and a lot more. I would have never given $400 for one, but anyhow.

Wife and I spent about 8 hours on the road today. With it and my virginmobile mifi in tow, she played around on the net for most of the trip. Still had a few percent of battery charge left when we got home, too.

Now, here's hoping my order goes through for mine finally. I have so many bogus pending charges on my credit card that it's not even funny at this point.

Already looking up info on overclocking it, hah. Also hoping that the touchstone charger goes on sale somewhere. I somehow doubt it, as the demand is probably high now. I'll get one regardless at some point.

To be fair, as an e-reader, the Kindle is FAR superior. Seriously, until you actually see that e-ink technology, you can't imagine how amazing it looks. It's clearer than an actual page in a book and unlike with LCD screens, you can read for hours on end without any strain on your eyes.

I gotta agree. Not only is reading on my iPad wearing on the eyes, but it's a pain to have to hold and position for extended periods of time. I much prefer my iPhone. Tablets aren't bad for short bursts of textbook review though, especially when it comes to color illustrations or pics of any kind. Can't be beat.

Aloha,

I hope you folks can help me out. I need a screen shot of stores selling the HP touchpad for $99 for in store pick up or maybe even an order with that price for in store pickup. I want my 30 dollars back as office depot has a price match guarantee and I feel they gouged me when everywhere else had it for $99 even if not for long.

Thank you for your help you can pm me or respond here.

Thanks for all your help.

Expected ship date from BN... looks like that may have gone through.

Ordered a 32GB one from HP SB as well... If they both go through I'll probably just sell the 16GB one.

I ordered mine from B&N at 1:30am checked my order status and it says: Unable to process order. Please call 1-877-379-0036, or 212-414-6024, if outside U.S. I guess they cancelled it ? payed with Paypal. They took the money out already, guess ill give them a call in the morning and tell them to give me my money back.

i really don't get why you guys aren't just using a Credit Card for these deals.
Atleast you can see when it's a Pre-Authorization with them.

I figured it would give me a better chance at actually getting one of these by just click the paypal icon then to sit there and enter all my credit card info.

Attempt #3: Ordered 1 tablet with a different VISA credit card at 2:24 EST. It is now 4:36 EST and it hasn't even updated to give me any "Unable to process" bullshit. I'm guessing we've hit the point of no return and it's flooded with orders now. If much earlier orders have been processed and canceled, I'm guessing this one will be too.
LOL! I wonder if any stupid retail employee would actually buy that as legitimate and let you purchase one cheap. Could be a good experiment. :whistle2:k
well to be honest all i changed were the things saying OOS
staples really does have a $50 off the tablet coupon thing..

Other than being fraud, I would fucking laughing my ass off if someone did that at a store and had it accepted. After the $15 Black Ops Prestige Edition and $99 Touchpad, who wouldn't believe it's legit?

Edit #1
also i have a staples right next too me. ill see whats up there. there's literally never anymore than 10 people there shopping and like 5 workers.

EDIT: #2

Turns out a bunch of places around me have these around me.
if you're in the SoCal/ OC area PM meh and i'll let you know where.

Been 2 hours and no update of any kind. Paid with Paypal for a 16GB but it charged directly to the linked card, so I don't think it should matter. 50/50 on expecting a cancellation on this one. Wish it goes through though, that $140 OD one seems like less of a deal now

LMAO

I suppose after some of the crazy shit that's happened in terms of deals lately this could go over some employee's head and they'd just do a manual override and hand you a 600$ piece of technology for 50 bucks.. or less if you're daring..8-[

What's the worse they're gonna do.. NOT accept it? Although to be fair this probably won't work anymore now. Hard to imagine any retail places still having any in stock.
Lol nobody is say msrp isnt a deal yet huh? Because technically this is the new msrp isnt it?
20 or so pages back.

Maybe 50.

Staples' inventory checker is not always that accurate. The past few days it has said the store where I purchased my Touchpad still had "low stock" when in fact the last they had were purchased by myself and this over individual that was there shortly after the opening.
