Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Adding the useful information to the first post. So much info scattered that would help people who have/will have this gadget.
Good call... probably making it a Wiki at this point would be best.
Perhaps you can add the info about your tape measure?:lol:
Thanks for your thoughtful response! You're right, there might be a way to tweak the power output of the gateway. I haven't found out how, yet. The gateway is basically two floors above the basement, and in a corner room. It was put there because our desktop computer is there and doesn't have a wifi card built-in.

I've been screwing around with settings on my old linksys router, and I figured out how to attach it to the end of the long ethernet cable in the basement and have it broadcast a secure wifi network of its own. What's good is that now I can play PS3 and use a tablet or laptop at the same time. What's bad is that my old 360 doesn't have a wireless adapter, so I still have to use a hardline for that, I guess, unless I can find a cheap wireless adapter for it.

Now I'm just waiting for my tablet to ship...

Edit: What's really hilarious is that the basement router's signal is reaching the upper level with 5 bars. Damn cheap U-verse gateway lol...
should be able to get the old wireless adapters for like 35 off cl or ebay used
Anyway my question is...anybody who got in on Friday night at HP for ONE 32G model recieve a cancellation or shipping email yet?
I ordered 1 16gig and it hasn't gotten canceled.
Then about 30mins later I ordered 2 32gigs on one order. This one hasn't been canceled yet either.

So I have two orders out there, both charged my CC, and I got the confirmation email as well. Ordered from HP Home and Home Office pretty soon into the sale.
For anyone who got "Unable to Process" for Barnes and Noble, apparently they just need more info and will hold your order for up to a week.
meaning? I called and got "we are unable to process your call."
meaning? I called and got "we are unable to process your call."
I've been trying since 8:45 AM EST and have been getting that message.

Stores were suppose to limit to one per person but a Best Buy store I went to let people buy multiples and at Walmarts as well so I think it would pure luck to find one at a store at this point.

After you enable developer mode and install preware do you then turn off developer mode and turn it back on when you want to install homebrew? Or do you leave developer mode on?

I've always left developer mode on. My understanding is that the only reason to shut it off is if you are frightened that someone on your local network is a linux genius and will SSH into your touchpad.

Ok thanks... So do you have to open that screen back up though? Or as long as it's turned on do you then just have to plug it into the PC?
should be able to get the old wireless adapters for like 35 off cl or ebay used
Never mind. I plugged another ethernet cable from the router into the 360 and, boom, I'm online. Hardline to the console plus wifi for the tablet = pure win.
Why do people find the need to go to sd theres no need for it cag is all you need
It's like watching Jersey Shore. People watch it to feel better about themselves. It is the same with CAGs who visit SD. ;)
If everyone stopped buying them on eBay for 300.00 people wouldn't be flipping them...just a thought
The Truth. You speak it.

CL is bad too. Although word has gotten out and prices are now down to $200 locally but some a-holes were wanting full retail earlier because the Touchpads were still sealed.
Speculation as to why Amazon didn't cut prices: http://gizmodo.com/5833140/why-wont-amazon-join-the-touchpad-fire-sale

tl;dr version: They have their own Android tablet about to come out and selling a ton of cheap tablets to the very people they'd want to buy an "Androzon" tablet shortly would be stupid.
But their basic premise is wrong. Amazon did 2 "Lightning Deals" for the Touchpad on Saturday, selling them for $99 and $149...

Why spend the time to write that article without even determining that first simple step?

I'm not defending slick deals, but I can see why people would buy as many as three if they had the chance. For example one for self, one for significant other, and one for parent/brother, etc. I think it's a bit presumptive to think that just because people buy multiples that they intend to flip them.

Exactly I bought more than one it was too good of a deal to pass up! Doesn't mean that everyone is flipping them. But would have to assume that the guy who posted that he bought 8 was flipping them lol

I've been here for years and I still find the Slickdeals hate totally ironic. The sites have the same thrust and there's hoarders at both sites.

Someone just posted some info over at SD of their conversation with a rep at B&N regarding orders.

Just spoke with a very friendly CSR in the Sales Audit department, who said this:

"There is a delay in processing those orders and you will receive an e-mail by the end of the day with the status of your order."

He confirmed my order wasn't canceled yet, but didn't know, or wouldn't provide, any more specifics. I didn't want to tie up his (or your) time since it's not his fault or call on what happens.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. And if the worst is I don't get a discontinued tablet, well then I guess it's really not all that bad.

I ordred a 16gb from B&N at 2:20am est this morning. Just wokeup and status says estimated ship date of 8/24. Fingers and toes crossed.

Just got off the phone with a very helpful BN rep. The story is kind of complicated, according to him:

People were ordering the TouchPad at the original price of around $500, hoping it would drop to $99 later. Because these are shipping from a third-party vendor, these people will NOT receive the price drop. They will be contacted and asked whether they still want to purchase the TouchPad at the original price.

Once they've gathered those responses, they will know what the inventory is like, and THEN begin going down the list of $99 orders, and fulfilling them. So there is hope!

Weird, my B&N order from last night got cancelled. Got the original confirmation, then a "Your Order is Scheduled to Ship" e-mail with a ship date of the 22nd (Today) maybe 20 minutes later. Woke up this morning, and my order is canceled.
I've been here for years and I still find the Slickdeals hate totally ironic. The sites have the same thrust and there's hoarders at both sites.
Sure, there are hoarders and nasties on both sides but SD seems to have a higher ratio of people out to make a profit. Perhaps they are just more vocal about trying to rip others off there?

IMHO, anything over 5 tags you as a hoarder/reseller.

Has anyone seen anywhere that has the accessories going cheap? This thing is a finger-print magnet so I wanted to see if the case, screen protector, and maybe dock were also receiving this price drop.

Verizon has some $5 cases I believe.

Nope but Best Buy tried to sell me everyone they had at full price when I bought mine on Sunday

At some point (probably soon) these will inevitably come down too, right? I mean, who wants to keep around a bunch of accessories for a defunct product?

fucking Barnes and Noble. I reiterate my request for a CAG to pass one along to me, haha. (Please?)
re: B&N

My order status says "cannot be removed" which according to the confirmation email means "If the status says "Cannot be removed" it is in process to ship to you. I have an expected ship date for Aug. 24th. I was one of the first to order at midnight, so maybe i got lucky
I ordered at 12:26, got cancelled, and some people ordered later and haven't been. It seems kinda random.
