We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
With high demand online deals it often boils down to luck anyway considering you can be there when a deal goes live and still not get it. A raffle system is still luck based but gets rid of the stress and hassle and also saves time.
It would be best to have an accurate number prior to doing the WHOLE THING in the FIRST PLACE. Part of what is making this so hard to find is the "accidental" hoarding. I call it accidental because many people (myself included) have ordered from several sources, but got various results. Since companies are on the hush hush about this too... people are going off any info anyone at all gives.

I heard the figure onSALE had only 700 16 gb's thrown around few times on SD and others claiming other factoids. Many onSALE orders are "not changing" but arrive so theres a lot of ???? and infomation like 2x orders + being canceled with others saying thats not true.

If they had it correct IN THE FIRST PLACE... they wouldnt get the negative feedback they deserve (and ideally will get) nor will people feel the need to check these threads looking for any info at all.

The lotto system will only cause more havoc since it combines the current problems and adds new problems. I dont like the idea that some fat SOB rolls in 15 hours later and gets one when someone did it 15 mins into it. We also have to add in the fact that when the lotto system comes into play people will look for facts and if nothing is assured then nothing will change.

It's an oxymoron which rewards the lucky over the watchful.
I also used a debit card through onSale. And the full amount was taken out of my account a few hours after I made the purchase on Amazon! Hope it's a good sign!
I used my bank card so that's a credit charge but when I checked my bank acct this morning it said it was on hold still but already deducted from my balance. So I don't think it's been completed yet
Thanks for contributing nothing.
And, uh, what do you consider your post?
Obviously I can't now can I mom?? Thanks for your concern though.
Just checked my status at HP SMB and I have a credit approval charge of $1 that is 'processing' and is dated at yesterday afternoon at 1pm. Huh?

It's not showing up on my bank statement.

Ok, so I just checked my account online. The amount has been deducted from my account but it's still under the pending transactions. Actually, the date of when it will go through keeps changing. Yesterday it had the 24th, now it says the 25th. onSale is killing me over here. Its been over 72 hours, can I get an answer, wtf!?!?

From the ActionVillage fiasco, I have learned to do most of my online shoppin with an actual credit card. I only use debit with trusted sites like Amazon.

Yeah, that's the only reason I used debit with onSale. It is covered by Amazon's A-Z Guarantee.

Just as a reminder for those of you buying accessories:

The official HP case does work with the touchstone. Be careful trying to retro fit ipad cases as it will probably make it not work with the touchstone.

I just woke up. My insight order is on it's way.
I know it's been asked before, but advice on the best accessories, and where to buy them?
The case and stuff arent too expensive on HP website from the looks of it...
Are BB stores getting them in today or tomorrow?

I saw that spread sheet that's been floating around..
That spreadsheet is YMMV. Some stores may have already received that shipment, some may not. I don't even know exactly how factual it is. I called two of the stores on the list near me that show stock incoming but they say they don't have any and weren't expecting any. So, YMMV :).

Both Best Buy and now WalMart have the official stuff on sale. Best Buy pm's their website though and WalMart does not, so as far as I know it's still full price in WalMart unless you can get in store pickup.

OD has everything 50% off on their website and will match in-store. Best Buy dropped everything as well, but looks sold out online, and will match their site in-store.

I'm personally going like this...
- Touchstone from OD/BBY for $40 in my bedroom to charge overnight and use for a 'clock'
- metal tablet stand from Five Below combined with the standard charger and a velcro cable tie for desk at work
- neoprene sleeve case from Five Below
- and I'll look for some sort of matte skin for the back to add some grip (still don't know what they were thinking on the back cover design for this tablet...I'm not an industrial designer, and I could have done better)

Employee at a Verizon wireless store literally gave me a Griffin Folio case (I believe it was a dipslay) last night. Fits great and the price was awesome!

Well, my Office Depot order shipped. Got a email at 2:35 am in the night :D I would suggest anyone that ordered from Office Depot on Friday night/early Sat. morning (I ordered at 1:21 am Sat) to check their emails or their orders, because it seems out of all the retailers, Office Depot actually had good inventory and if you were able to place an order relatively early you should be good. Mine went from 3 Day Shipping Pending to In the Warehouse yesterday to Shipped today.

Only thing is, my order is not expected until Aug. 31st, those jerks. What happened to 3 Day Shipping for free for orders over $50? -__- I like the fact that I have one, but it was supposed to be for my Dad's birthday this weekend
Me too! I can't decide whether or not it's worth it because I already have the HP case/stand.
Lol, decisions decisions. I saw a screen protector on Amazon.com that comes with a lifetime warranty. I'll decide later.

I really want to buy some accessories but I can't until I'm sure I'm getting a TouchPad. Arg. That Touchstone charger looks great and would work wonderfully on my night table.
I guess also did you do debit or credit? Just trying to figure out if everyone has the same thing happening, since OnSale isn't telling us squat.

I used debit since it was through Amazon, and the money is already out of my account. Possibly means it went through or that could just be how it works with debit.
If the transaction went through as a debit card rather than a credit card then the money would be taken out immediately. I think this is why if you use a debit card in a B&M store and then return the purchase you receive cash back rather than a credit back to the card. At least this is how it worked when I was at RadioShack so many years ago. This is also why I always ask the cashier how I run my cards as credit when I make purchases at POS (I don't put in my PIN). When you put in your PIN the money comes out immediately rather than going through Visa/Mastercard first. Of course...this is all from B&M experience. I have no idea how they handle this online. Ha

Most best buys tell me that they have no idea if they are getting more in. I noticed that many best buy employees are rude once you ask them about the touchpad haha.

being in a job where I deal with grade A a-holes all day, I can tell you, after you get a couple hundred people asking the exact same question for a week straight, you start to get fed up with it.

Thanks, but according to the websites, BB, Walmart, and OD are all sold out of accessories in my area.
HP website prices seem fair, and there's a $15 promo coupon, and shipping is free on orders over $49 I think. Isnt that still a good deal?
It's $29.99 for the case, $39.99 for keyboard.

If you order from the HP website you can get another $15 off a $75 order with coupon code SAVE15HP. I ordered 2 cases last night when they were $34.99 each but the coupon worked because it was using the original $49.99 price. They now changed the price to $29.99 (it won't use the original $49.99 for the coupon now) so I called them this morning and asked for an adjustment and when it ships they said to call back for a $10 refund. I should get 2 cases for about $23 each.

Unless they just changed it BB wasn't allowing you to check in store availability at all on anything except for the screen protectors. I went in and they had two cases and about 5 charging docks...
Just scored a 32 GB HP Touchpad from the Best Buy on kirkwood highway in DE...and were still expecting the 16 GB one from eBay!
We must have just passed each other. I also scored a 32 GB one at the Kirkwood BB around 5pm. Its great to see another local DE CAG.

Speaking of Best Buy, I'll bring up one thing I found out about their supposed inventory controls and how full of crap they are.

I was checking the online store inventory links and found a store that came up as "In Store Only", which means BB.com was seeing >=3 in-store. I drove out to that store about 30 minutes away and went looking for them. The reps in-store said that they received a shipment earlier in the afternoon and they were gone pretty quickly, "a couple of hours ago", so they said. I had a rep in-store check RSS (their in-store inventory system) and he said that there were 14 showing up in RSS. Though, as he said, they were all sold though RSS didn't show that they were out of stock. RSS is tied to the registers, so anyone would assume that when someone buys an item, it should deduct that item from inventory immediately.

They kept saying that they didn't have any, though BB.com was showing a different story. I found another store that had them in-stock and drove there, about 20 minutes away, and had more of the same story, they had them though they sold out, the inventory wasn't updated yet and the like. By the time I left store 1 and went to store 2, store 1 was showing as "Unavailable" on BB.com. I left store 2 and it took BB.com over an hour to show that Store 2 didn't have them.

If I was a logistics manager for Best Buy trying to keep track of store inventory, and there was this kind of lag between purchase and inventory updates, I'd be more than a little curious to find out what the issue is.

I didn't believe that they were sold out when I was in-store and I still don't believe it, since I'm betting they were stuck in the back waiting for BB employees to buy them, or some other foolishness.

Amen to this, give the people at Best Buy a break, I'm sure they've been harassed forthe past week on Touchpads.
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but those stock checker links posted about 10 pages back don't work anymore. You might be going in blind and pray that you get there at the right time.
Yes, this exactly. I just tried it literally a couple of seconds ago and I was thinking "What the Hell? These worked an hour ago!" And I had them open already. I was refreshing every so often to see if any changed to "Available In Store".

I have simply given up on finding any TouchPads or TouchPad accessories at Best Buy. I'll just purchase everything I can from HP and pay a little more.

Still none. It's frustrating; I can't really afford to order from somewhere else if these charges are still pending, and I don't trust OnSale to cancel my Amazon order if I call them directly, so until I actually see "Canceled" or "Shipped" on my Amazon order status, I'm waiting it out.

Just got my order delivered by OD, I was sleeping and OD came at 10:48AM EST time. :D
They didnt mentioned about themselves delivering in my status but they just complete the transaction. Gonna have to open it after 3 days of frustration!!!

Not too bad. Hoping other sites put it on sale again. I didn't want to spend too much money on a $100 purchase, but I figure a keyboard and a case would be handy. What's the point of the touchstone? To keep it constantly charged when not in use? Is that necessary?

They removed the links to the checkers from the product pages but if you knew the addresses of the links you could still check the availability. Someone posted those links several pages ago, but now those links just don't go to anything anymore.

So for anyone that has one, what do you think of it as far as out of the box? Or is a thread on this topic already exist?

I'm looking to get one for my wife to use as an e-reader mainly and then any web browsing while on the couch.
