Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
For the people who have issue with "In game purchase" and the boycott of the product this is not a demo product you're buying. The amount of content is well worth the $3 I paid and, again, a steal at .99. Don't blame namco, blame the pirates. In game purchases are going to be a common theme in 2010. Apple's piracy prevention is non existent. One developer claimed an 80% piracy rate of their last game. Here is the link to the joystiq article:

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/developer-claims-80-percent-piracy-rate-for-latest-iphone-releas/

If developers aren't making any money off of their releases, we will see a real decline in quality on the device. If in game purchases are allow for the platform to continue to grow and as a result bring better games to the device, I am for it.
Sorry, but it's no excuse . . . You want to use DLC to fight piracy? Hey, awesome, I think that's a great idea. Then make the base app FREE and demo-length, and then charge for the DLC to make it the complete game. But don't charge money for the base app and then tell your users that they have to pay more money to get the game they thought they were paying for the first time around. That's just lame.

Am I wrong in thinking that DLC and in-game purchases won't stop the piracy from spreading to them. I mean obviously these people are smart enough to circumvent the measures put in place originally what's one more hurdle to them? I just think it's a copout, just another way of nickle and diming the paying customers to make up for the non-paying ones. Reminds me of the government and taxes.

Pac-Mac is worth the $1 but no more - the game controls horribly. Like ... it controls OK, maybe, but not well enough for it to be fun at higher levels. I was ... very frustrated.

I don't think anyone is disillusioned so much to think that piracy can be stopped. However, from my understanding in-app purchases can slow the rate of piracy in that with in-app purchases the developer has some measure of involvement in the purchase process unlike purchasing the app originally from iTunes, so although the app will almost assuredly get pirated eventually, the process will be different for each app.

Having said that, DLC is at it's core a strategy for making more money. If developers can get more money from a paying customer, you bet they'll do it.

In-app purchases haven't slowed piracy at all. Do a quick search and you will find that all the DLC in Rock Band was pirated very quickly.
Might pick up iDrac unless Minigore is considered better?
Try the iDracula demo, but for 99 cents, both will coexist.

iDracula is slower paced, more/better weapons, perk-based levelling up system. In almost every way it should be a more featured, better designed product than Minigore, but I got Minigore on sale for 99 cents and I don't think I'll go back to iDrac. Minigore is just fun. I don't understand why it is.

This is just a statement of personal preference buffered by the actual facts, I can't recommend Minigore over iDrac in good conscience, but I CAN say I enjoy Minigore a lot more than iDrac.

My Bargain Bin just dinged I Dig It Expeditions down to $1.99. I've bought so much lately, but why stop being a giant loser now.

I bit on Pac-Man CE. None of the four control patterns are really tight enough to merit the gameplay. This one should've stayed on XBLA.

Ah, well, twas only a dollar. Still, feels like a dollar supporting something cancerous...

Maybe I should use the other iPod/iPhone thread, but this one's much more active, so what the hell...

What are the best ways to protest an iPod Touch? Does the screen get messed up quickly (i.e. tiny scratches all over the place) or would I be all right without some kind of skin/screen protector? Any good, cheap stuff to buy to protect it? I'll probably be getting a dock when I get the Touch, but I'm still unsure about what else to invest in.

Get screen protectors. My Iphone got small but irritating scratches on its screen real fast. Then I go to Apple Store and hear that screen replacements are $200 for my $300 pointless toy.

And if even one of you dopes says WELL DID YOU PUT IT IN THE POCKET WITH ANYTHING ELSE so help me I will fucking end you.

Well the best way to PROTEST an iPod Touch is to not buy one. :p

I've found the screen in my iphone is excellent. No scratches and I usually carry it in my pocket uncovered.

Trust Pacman CE and Hybrid to go down in price right after I buy them :<
oh well. In for Uniwar and Alphabattle

I'm getting a 32gb 3rd Gen for Christmas to replace my old 1st Gen 16gb...can anyone give me a quick review on the performance of the 3rd gens? I know i'm gonna enjoy having the little built-in speaker...along with that extra 16gigs to add these hefty movies i have

Zombieville USA is actually pretty decent. The demo doesn't show it, but, yeah, the real game is in the long haul, surviving, buying more, better guns, etc.

It ain't worth a penny over 99 cents though. Hopefully, they'll put it on sale with the next update.
BeeJiveIM did go on sale but it's still $6.99. IM+ is less than half that. I think IM+ wins.
I remember when Beejive used to be like $15

I'm pretty sure this code has been redeemed but can someone try it out and report back. It's for Implode!.

4RY7YW97H4FM

I mistakenly used it even though I have the game and wanted to see if it's still valid or if it counts it as used even if you already have it installed.

Already used.

Where'd you get that code anyways?
I remember when BeeJive was JiveTalk for blackberry only and it was $50 haha.
Apps like that are retarded. Who pays for an app that cost like 1/4 of their product? Some people do-- and it's a shame. Theres like a TomTom GPS that's a top seller for about $50-- which is retarded, but people buy!

I recently upgraded from a 2ng gen to the 3rd gen. The built in speakers are definitely nice. The performance in games is slightly noticeable, but probably more noticeable in more graphic intensive games. I find that closing games is a lot faster though. Some games took 10 secs or more to close on my 2nd gen, but close in a second on my 3rd gen. Overall, I'm loving it and the extra room. Also bought the Switcheasy Neo which is a sweet looking case.

In the pre-app store days, mobile app pricing was all over the place, especially for blackberry. Tom Tom for $50 isn't too unreasonable, but I still think it's a bit much considering you're supplying the hardware an you'll likely need a mount and car charger which in total would add up to at least the price of a standalone unit, if not more.

Btw MonsterBall is currently free. I just played the tutorial and it's pretty fun so far, like a battle chess approach to Chinese checkers.

Glad to hear it's even better! I checked out that case...is yours the $30 one for the 2nd Gen iTouch (im assuming 2nd and 3rd gen are the same in thickness)?

the case looks pretty sick...like 3 layers of protection. question, do you use the microsilicone cover underneath the main hardcase cover?

I got something like this for cheap from monoprice back when I got my iTouch, I wouldn't know if it actually needs it or not as my screen has always had one and looks as good as the day I bought it when I have had to switch screen protectors.

I can't vouch for that product specifically as I'm not sure if it's exactly equivalent to what I purchased (they have removed the product page corresponding to the exact product I purchased from them).

Side note: their silicone cases are also nice and cheap and work well with the protective film to help keep the edges from coming undone.

I've had a 3GS for about three months and there aren't any visible scratches on my screen. I carry it uncovered in my pocket, and I've never dropped it.

I was able to get the case off ebay for $15. I would've paid the $30 though. The microsilicone is pretty thin and tears easily. In fact, I tore mine a little. Luckily, they give you 2 of them. And yes, it goes under the hard case so your ipod doesn't get scratched. Check out some reviews on youtube. They're pretty informative.

The TomTom app makes sense to me assuming it has all the functionality of a standalone GPS unit. Dropping $50 on the app is certainly cheaper than spending $150+ on the GPS.

While the neo looks cool, it seems a bit overpriced for the quality you've reported. I personally vouch for the Otter Box Commuter series. They're rugged and worth the money spent. It even comes with covers for the headphone/dock ports built right onto the silicone sleeve. Take a look at those before jumping into the neo.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I've been using Waze and so far it's worked like a charm. So I really can't see paying $50 for TomTom or $10 a month for AT&T Navigator. And as far as paying for an IM app, well there's plenty of those for free, ie yahoo, palringo, fring, etc.

Looking for some assistance from fellow Cags. Xmas has brought me a $25 itunes card, need to spend it. I already picked up COD: Zombies (fantastic game).

Had a short list for some other games,

Doom, Nova, Song Summoner, Cabalt, Ravensword, dungeon hunter.

A lot of these are pricier games that I would normally wait on. I am trying to avoid getting screwed by a quick sale right after xmas.

Thoughts from everyone? Any other game suggestions? Price not being a factor.

Maybe Dungeon Hunter, idk. I don't pay more than a $3 app usually.

I've been using WAZE since I read about it yesterday and it's not good at finding alternate routes, but it's very good at telling me where there's traffic. I've been sharing with it too to help others --very neat.

I wish it were as good as my TomTom at routing, but my TomTom doesn't know about traffic... Sadly, I've been using both, which is distracting as shit. I'm confident we'll have a good free GPS app soon.
