This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Price Drop Sites

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

HELLKID MOTHASHAQFUERS.

It's slightly better than Canabalt! And free! They recently updated it with some nifty looking new stuff but it still didn't tickle my fancy. For free, no sense in not diving it.
I bought Super QuickHook purely off what you guys said, so shit better be good!
HA HA HA WE GOT ANOTHER ONE! Born every minute, I tells ya!
Super Quickhook is good but I cant stop playing Geometry Wars Touch.
Are you having any problem connecting to leader boards on Geometry Wars?

Did you sign in in Geometry Wars, either through Facebook or by making a legacy account in the game? I think you need to do one or the other first.

Already back up to .99. That didn't last long at all.
Are you having any problem connecting to leader boards on Geometry Wars?
Yeah...even though my facebook is linked to it I have occasion leaderboard connection problems. Keeps popping up in between games.

Only really noticed the issue when I'm on the cellular data. I haven't noticed it on WiFi.

Also picked up the updated Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Game is pretty good thus far but sometimes chugs on my 3G. Can't wait to see how well some of these bigger games run on my new iPhone 4 with 512MB of ram.

Ahh... I bit on Super QuickHook. Which is crazy because I wasn't really a fan of the original much at all. However, what I most disliked about the original was the bit about being chased and how that made the game so frustrating. So maybe this will prove worth it....

I also gave in to the hype and purchased SQH last night. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't play the original all that much, either, so I didn't have any bad memories or anything. I zipped through the first level, bought a few upgrades, and just generally enjoyed the game play and setup. I'll definitely be playing a bit more of this one over the next few days.

Can anyone post there own personal top apps?

I want to buy some but dont know whats the hottness.

Hook Champ? Super Quick Hook? I need help!

All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm guessing you're asking about gaming apps. My top 5 are:
1) Ragdoll Blaster 2 ($2.99)
2) Wurdle ($1.99)
3) Super Quickhook ($1.99 right now, $2.99 soon)
4) Angry Birds ($.99)
5) A4ER ($1.99)

A while back, I posted a list of my favorite games I got for free (at the time), but I didn't do all my "favorite" games that well so I wanted to kind of follow up on that.

Mind you, I've installed hundreds of games, some paid, some free and these are the games that struck me as interesting and have survived on my touch. It doesn't make them worth buying (although I can easily imaging them being worth at least .99), but to me it does mean to snatch them up for sure if you ever see them for free. They are certainly worth the effort it takes to download them.

iBlast Moki: http://wireless.ign.com/articles/105/1050256p1.html
Pocket Gamer gave it a 8 and IGN gave it a 9. It's been free twice that I know of.

The Deep Pinball: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2009/09/review-the-deep-pinball/
If you like pinball you can't do much better than this.

Twin Blades: http://touchreviews.net/twin-blades-iphone-zombie-game/
I got it for free before it was updated. It looked promising and a lot of that promise has been realized. It has since been free again.

Peter & Vlad: http://www.touchgen.net/peter-und-vlad-review
I like good presentation and this game has it. Does that mean you'll enjoy it? It depends on the type of game you like.

Funkyball Worlds: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Funkyball+Worlds/review.asp?c=17586
It got a silver review on Pocket Gamer.

Finger Physics: http://www.macworld.com/appguide/app.html?id=312653
A very well reviewed and popular game, the name explains what type of game it is.

33rd Division: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2009/10/review-33rd-division-plus-were-giving-away-4-copies/
A nice line drawing game.

Flickitty: http://thecurrentgamer.com/2009/11/review-flickitty/
Perhaps the presentation is better than the actual game, but that cat amuses me.

Fozwot: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Fozwot/review.asp?c=15654
I hang on to this because I like the look and atmosphere so much. I'm sure some people enjoy playing it, but like Twin Blades before the review I hang on to this because if it had just one good update it would be a fantastic game.

iBomber: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/iBomber/review.asp?c=13448
A bronze award on Pocket Gamer, this is a relatively unique game (not match three, not line drawing, not TD), certainly worth giving a try.

That's it for now (it occurs to me I'm only about half way through and at the rate I add games I'll never be done) :)
I will reiterate though, these aren't must buys... just games I found interesting.

My personal favorites, many of which I got for free but all of which I would gladly pay the asking price
1: Angry Birds (.99)
2: Soosiz (1.99)
3: Critter Crunch (1.99)
4: Pandamania (.99)
5: Zenonia 1 and 2 (2.99 & 4.99)
6: Red Conquest (1.99)
7: Plants v. Zombies (2.99)
8: Tilt to Live (1.99)
9: Devil Invasion (.99)
T Raiders is FREE for a limited time (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/t-raiders/id372156631?mt=8).
Also, sorry for the double post... but good find on T Raiders. Its worth noting that it is from the same people who made Devil Invasion which has turned out to be one of my favorite games, and I know has been well liked here. Haven't had much time to mess around with it but so far it's a pretty fun game. Figure I would throw in my recommendation so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle here
I believe you mean "iBlast Moki." Just wanted to clarify, and also its free right now, so get it.
Yeah, what you said... and well worth picking up.
I think my sleep deprived mind hates just adding i to the front of everything so it tried to make it into something that would actually make sense "eye black". Yeah, that must be it.

Plants vs. Zombies is pretty much one of the most awesome iPhone games out there. Ditto, Wolfenstein RPG. I'll soon be posting a quick review on the CAG blogs.

Buy Spider Secret of Bryce Manor. Best iPhone game by a good green mile.

I'm sooooo glad I didn't buy Tilt to Live last night when I bought Super Quick Hook. I was thiiiiiiiiiiis close, but thought I should wait. That paid off nicely!

Damn missed a couple of freebies like Ace Fighter, Ace Deer Hunter, and DeadBall Specialist, even though I was able to get others, the inconsistency in time expiration never makes sense. I should've waited for TTL to drop instead of spending $1.99, I feel I got ripped now. Damned either way.

Do not kick yourself over missing Ace Deer Hunter. You didn't miss a thing. I downloaded it, played and and deleted it quickly. It is a very bad game.
