This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Price Drop Sites

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

I had a lot of trouble recently with paypal and iTunes after I updated some banking info. After days of pulling my hair out, I figured out that paypal defaults your iTunes payment agreement to only use your paypal balance as a payment type. You have to manually change that to also accept your card. You maybe also have an outstanding balance with apple because of the mix up, so apple essentially locks you out of the app store until it's cleared.

Either way, you can only fix it from iTunes on your desktop, you can't so it from your device.
The reason we post iTunes links is so cheapyD gets a little cash thrown in the the hat from the referral links to keep CAG going, otherwise it's like using CAG to earn referral money for appshopper.
Are you sure iTunes has a referral program? I haven't heard of one, not that I'm the last word or anything...

I'm sorry, let me clarify, since all those links go through linksynergy, I'm assuming CAG gets credited for clicks, though possibly not directly through Apple.

If I'm wrong, which I may well be, go ahead and link appshopper to your hearts content. I only wish those links launched the appshopper app as well because I'm rarely on a desktop.

Yes, there is absolutely an iTunes referral program. That's pretty much the entire reason that there are so many price-tracking sites and app review sites. Also the entire reason that CAG is integrating app store info into the collection, etc. systems on the site.

Correct.
Same here. iTunes is an very bad program, it's a resource hog and it continuously stalls on PC. I usually buy stuff on my phone and try not to use iTunes as much as I can.
It's interesting, because on the Mac it performs well. Which is not the same as saying that I like having web links automatically launch iTunes. Thus why I use that Safari extension.
OK I don't know if it's been posted, but Prism: Light the way is currently free:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prism-light-the-way/id384707625?mt=8

I loved this game on my DS and it's fun on iPhone too. It's a light path bend and reflect game.

EDIT: Looks like RollingSkull beat me to it, but I emphasize downloading this while it's free
Thanks for the repost though, I forgot about it and grabbed it now. I loved the DS version as well. Very, very good. For those who played NOVA, it's just like an expanded version of the mini-game it had in there.

Might finally pick this one up. I was looking forward to it originally as a "Castle Crashers on iPod" game, but then I saw all the massive complaints about the way the saves, perks, etc. were working. Apparently, these issues were all addressed with an update today and, with the price drop, don't think I can hold off any longer.

I just bought Knight's Rush and it is very, very impressive! looks and plays amazing!

At first I was WTF when I loaded my save and it said all my characters were level 1 again. Then I realized that the upgrades totally save, just not the level number itself.
I just bought Knight's Rush and it is very, very impressive! looks and plays amazing!
Just got it too, same reaction. A must buy for Castle Crasher fans.
^ Agreed, iTunes on Mac performs a lot better than the Windows version.
IIRC, OSX handles RAM better than Windows* which may be part of the discrepancy between the two.

*at least through XP, I haven't kept up with Vista or 7.

Knight's Rush looks awesome. I love that they release a crucial update to fix the game and celebrate by slashing the price by 67%. iPod gaming could be the best thing ever, in that regard.

In Knight's Rush, is there anything to keep me playing? In Castle Crashers (which I loved, by the way), the dozens of unlockable characters kept me coming back for eight playthroughs. Is there anything to entice that in Knight's Rush?

Not sure, but the way I look at it is Castle Crashers was $15. Right now, Knight's Rush is for the price of a crappy cheeseburger at McDonalds.

For anyone that cares, when the Yahoo Messenger App says video chat over 3g, they mean it. Video chat won't work with the 4G ipod Touch over wifi.

Attend the virtual police academy (or at least the shooting range part of it) with Ace Police Training, currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/ace-police-training/id393280906?mt=8). Go on, you know you want to "accidentally" shoot that civilian target cutout a couple of times.

If shooting people isn't your cup of tea, shoot some animals instead with Real Trophy Hunting (http://itunes.apple.com/app/real-trophy-hunting/id359691586?mt=8#), the latest FAAD Gold feature.

"Real Trophy Hunting is an ultra-realistic hunting game where you experience the thrill of hunting the most prized big game animals of North America. Developed by the founders of the hunting game genre and the App Store hit Real Deer Hunting.

Free App Calendar is offering the rather poorly-rated Aero World for its new game (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id385557062?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4).

Just checked this one right now. In iTunes, it's showing up as 99¢ for me. Anyway, looks like it's better off that way; the reviews indicate this one is abysmal.

Unfortunately, it looks like Knight's Rush has some bugs that make the stats reset between characters when you exit the game.

I had a level 16 Barbarian with all his skills maxed out and then started playing with the Knight at level 1 and leveled him up to level 2, and upgraded a few things. Next thing I knew my Barbarian was level one and had only the stats that I upgraded with the knight.

This needs to be fixed big time :(

IDK what it is but I have been using iTunes since 2006 on XP, Vista and 7 and it is the worst program on my computer. If I had a different program that ran this bad I would look for an alternative but having an iPhone means I have to use the iPhone. iTunes on windows almost feels like running a mini OS on top of windows.

Yeah, whats even more of a bummer is I tried to replicate it and did not succeed. So it seems this bug can come at any time randomly.

Dear Lord... O_O

3D Shuffle-Board is currently free, made from the same guys who made the police training game posted earlier.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/3d-shuffle-board/id358328729?mt=8

Action Ball Maze is a labyrinth clone made by the same guys... meh, but at least it's free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/action-ball-maze/id342130765?mt=8

Ace Pool 3D is also made by the same company, it's ok if you're in need of a pool game on your iphone/touch

http://itunes.apple.com/app/ace-pool-3d/id388067163?mt=8

And for those that can't get enough of tapping your screen like crazy shooting falling objects, AH Flower Hunt is free once again.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/ah-flower-hunt/id391265870?mt=8

WordWorld is a bookworm clone that's currently free, it has a different look and feel than bookworm but pretty much the same game.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/word-world-for-iphone/id386110137?mt=8

King Strike is a variation of a pool game. Hard to explain, it's pretty fun though, and it's free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/king-strike/id338512238?mt=8

And last but not least, Shoot the Magic is free once again! It's a rather nice anime themed shmup if anyone is looking for a vertical shooter.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/shoot-the-magic/id376524972?mt=8

As a side note, for those who love shmups but may not want to shell out the $9 for it, there is a lite version of Dodonpachi Resurrection so you can try before you buy! It really is an awesome shmup.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/dodonpachi-resurrection-lite/id387180041?mt=8

Sorry for all the game listings in one post, but I was told it's better to edit into one post than threadcrap several posts for a handful of games.

That Shoot the Magic game. It looks incredibly crappy in screenshots. And making a photo as a boss? This has to be bad. But it's free and has nearly 5 stars? I can't help but download it now. Will post impressions later today.

I thought it was horrendous.

Also, that WordWorld game shows up as 99 cents for me. Not sure how I keep missing these free apps lately.

After playing Knight's Rush for 2 hours straight I can definitely say I'm glad I picked that up. Definitely a lot of fun.

Last Defender is the latest Openfeint game of the day.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/last-defender/id390293619?mt=8

You are the only one left
to save the galaxy,
You are the last hope,
You are the Last Defender!

Probably the fastest pure action game with perfect controls only possible on iOS devices.

I believe a great game for iOS devices doesn't have to be complex, it must be fast, simple, fun, and of course addictive!

WHAT MAKES THIS GAME UNIQUE:

In the majority of this game I've used fonts instead of images.

WHY!?

- To make it as fast as possible with fast action at 60fps.
- To make the size as small as possible so it can be a small size universal app playable on all iOS devices.
- Depending on the type and size of your iOS device screen simply it uses different font size to make it as bright as possible on your device.

WHO WILL LOVE THIS GAME:

- People who hate loading screens
- People who hate on screen controllers that usually cover half of the screen
- People who hate puzzles
- People who just want fast pure action

Shoot the Magic is almost, I emphasize *almost*, worth downloading just for the sheer, to cop allyourblood, horrendousness of it. It has to be the definition of App Store "voter fraud". Was this thing written in javascript? At least I didn't have to pay for it.

while not necessarily cogent to the nature of the thread, how do you set an alarm on the iPhone 4? You'd think with everything it can do, the least of its abilities would be to wake you up at a specific time...

It's in the clock app. One of the tabs is for Alarms.

well herp me a derp...
I was thinking it would be in settings and never even noticed that there's a clock button.

Now why I can't get any of my Angry Birds progress into Game Central?
I thought it was horrendous.

Agreed, and I think I paid $0.99 for it. I have a folder of all my shmups, and this is one of the very few I deleted.

I thought I read somewhere that your level gets reset but all your stats remain. Maybe they didn't completely fix that bug...
