This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

So can anybody vouch for the Castlevania puzzle game? If I never played SOTN, and I like Puzzle Quest (but find it gets a touch boring after long play sessions), will I like this game? I've heard mixed opinions on it. XS

My iPod touch 32GB 4th Gen will be here Wednesday.

Also got a red silicone case and a screen protector for $4 shipped. The iPod was 193 out the door at Amazon. Had $95 in gift cards from old textbooks. I had $215 in credit from old books. I also got Black Ops on release for free cause of this. And Oath of Felghana Premium on PSP.

Got Castlevania Puzzle.

I really want to try Game Dev Story too. But no way at $3.99. Will wait for at least $1.99. Sorry to say but iPhone games has no value. Everything are just doom to be free or $.99 in a few weeks/months.
Has anyone tried Game Dev Story? I heard great things and it has awesome ratings, but at $3.99 I wanted to see if any CAG's had thoughts about it. Boy, we get so spoiled with .99c games. Thanks!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/game-dev-story/id396085661?mt=8
Just bought it and played for around 4 hours. It is very addicting. I don't play these type of games vary often but I love it. Looks pretty outdated but deosn't bother me though. It has game awards, you can create your own system, make multi-genre games, train your workers. I can see myself putting at least another 7-10 hours before I get bored and I usually get bored within a few hours with these type of games.

Thank you. I bought this as quickly as I could.

Was not a fan of Castlevania Puzzle. A middling puzzler forced to dance to the tune of a nostalgia drenched SotN reskin, and the result is an endless repetitive middling grind with constant random battles and mechanics that just aren't that good.

Letstans Deluxe is the latest FAAD game. A decent puzzler for those looking for something new to play.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/letstans-deluxe/id377665828?mt=8

Arkinvade is currently free, a breakout clone with decent reviews... although they could be the dev team.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/arkinvade/id387007654?mt=8

ArmMan is a rather amusing run-as-far-as-you-can-before-you-lose game that dropped to free. Is there even an abbreviation for games like this? Like how we have the expression "shmup", there needs to be some expression for jumper and runner games.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/armman/id346788309?mt=8

Floy Fantasy is currently free. Hard to describe this "game", it's like Flow for PS3 meets Osmos. Try it for yourself, it's free so you can delete it if it's not your thing.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/floy-fantasy/id383811267?mt=8

Knight Defense is free again. Interesting chess meets TD type of game with neon glow graphics

Thanks for the update Big Ben.

How do you really feel? I do agree with RollingSkull on this one, the game is repetitive and a bad use of the SoTN license. However, I got a decent amount of hours out of the game and for the .99 price tag I think it is worth picking.

I agree with the sentiment that Castlevania Puzzle is a fairly poor excuse for a Puzzle Quest variant, and is quite repetitive and brings in the absolute worst aspect of classic RPGs: random battles, that make the game seem a bit like a chore... yet I still found myself playing it for an hour this morning. I think it's worth 99 cents if you like this sort of thing, just don't expect anything great.

Yup. I had gathered as much from reading through a few dozen reviews of the game, but I figured for 99 cents it'd be worth it. I've yet to play it, but I can't imagine not getting my 99 cents out of it.

Castlevania is a pretty fun puzzle game. Im a Castlevania fan and yeah its not really that fitting with the series, but it is fun and it does work well with the iphone. The control takes getting used to at first but overall its a fun puzzle game. Its very much similar to puzzle fighter with a castlevania take. It actually spurred my interest back into playing SOTN again. Definitely worth a buck.

Cave Run makes me appreciate Monster Dash and Canabalt all the more. Tried it a few times and deleted it. Also, and even though I like those two other games, I call for the unceremonious end of run for your life games starting right now.

I picked it up last week and was instantly addicted. Sat down to play with my iPhone and ended up losing 6 hours right off the bat to it. Pretty good business simulation game in my opinion, although for the life of me I can't figure out how to hire a hardware engineer.

Why not just call them either "jumper" or "runner" games? ;) I think by this point people would know what you mean.
The Office Golf just dropped to free. It's a mini golf game with some ties to the show The Office... I don't know if it's legit, but it's free and decent mini putting fun.
Its sold by NBC Universal, so yeah, I'd imagine its legit. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm also playing Game Dev Story and enjoying it quite a bit, I have put a few hours into it already which is kind of unheard for me when it comes to iPod games. I just wish I could port games to other systems, as games cost a hell of a lot to develop!

Argh. Dunno if this didn't go through last time or what, but the Action RPG "Caligo Chaser" is free today.

Go snag it, it's pretty good.

I believe they're Go As-far-as You-can games ...

As mentioned by PlatinumIce, the rather good action side scroller called Caligo Chaser dropped to free!

Also, Catapult Madness dropped to free as well! Two great free games, get them while they're hot!... errr free!

Bob the Bubble is the latest OpenFeint Free Game of the Day (http://itunes.apple.com/app/bob-the-bubble/id366796967?mt=8).

FAAD is featuring Finger Physics: Thumb Wars (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/finger-physics-thumb-wars/id380480463?mt=8) along with X Invasion 2: Extreme Combat (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/x-invasion-2-extreme-combat/id355559243?mt=8) among its current freebies.

Geometry Fighter has dropped back down to FREE once again if you're looking for another space shooter (http://itunes.apple.com/app/geometry-fighter/id333267627?mt=8).
Thanks for the info on gamedev I'll pick it up, but boy I'm having a lot of fun with trainyard and trainyard express.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trainyard/id348719156?mt=8

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trainyard-express/id348724199?mt=8
I second this. I bought Trainyard and then found Trainyard Express, powered through the Express puzzles and I'm still going on the regular version's puzzles. Well polished puzzle game, solution sharing is pretty impressive as well.

Can someone explain to me how Destroy 9 (either version) works, gameplay-wise? I picked up both a while ago and have no idea what's going on.

First Contact is a rather fun (IMO) missle defense sort of game that just dropped to free! It will be stay free for a week according to the description so get it while it's free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/first-contact/id303934040?mt=8

And by the same makers of the aforementioned game, is a game called Bait Master. The description sounds really weird but it looks like a fishing game... with social implications? :whistle2:k Whatever the point is, it's free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/bait-master/id308223878?mt=8

The new FAAD featured game is Dice Match (http://itunes.apple.com/app/dice-match/id377664389?mt=8).

"Fun & relaxing and easy to play. Similar to match 3 games but with a new style of gameplay. Match the dice and score high points! 'Classic' version included, with the option to purchase additional game modes. Plan your strategy to save your last move on all the high values, or just swipe all the pairs.
