Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

And I'm just sitting here waiting for Trails of Cold Steel 2 which is killing my drive to play anything that isn't a pickup and play kind of game. I can't even play Overwatch because I'm too reliant on my now recently broken mouse scroll wheel while I wait for the warranty replacement to arrive.

Oh and because there were some posts about Falcom's OST releasing for Ys VIII as well as Sora no Kiseki the 3rd Evolution, here's the real OST playlist for The 3rd Evolution (The previous linked playlist was for the original and the other Evolution playlist was a BGM rip as well, so this sounds slightly different):

This was just added to their youtube channel a few days ago.

Thought this was interesting, although I doubt it will make enough of an impact to change anything.

http://shoryuken.com/2016/08/29/fans-rally-behind-a-petition-for-english-dubbing-in-blazblue-central-fiction/

We already know Blazblue Central Fiction won't be getting a dubbed release when it launches in 2 months, and that's very unfortunate seeing as how great of a cast they have. Basically Aksys is willing to show some kind of support if we persuade the devs, and there's a petition in the article.

I've always loved the Blazblue story since the first game, and a lot of that was from the work the voice actors/actresses put in, especially voices like Noels and Rachael's. So I'm all for it, even if it manages to be DLC.

I got Miku and Attack on Titan today as well, but didn't have a chance to play them. I'm so tired from work...
Could do what I do. Try and start playing around 10 PM after convincing yourself you will only play for an hour and then either A. realize it's 3 am or B. wake up on the couch around 6 am and have ruined your entire next day. Being old man...

Signed the BlazBlue dubbing petition. I've enjoyed the dubs in the past games.
If anything I hope they release the game as planned this year and make the dub voices free dlc later on.

It would be nice to have dubs for those who want it, but for the competitive fighting game scene, having to wait for a port much longer just for dubbed voices would be detrimental.

Oh, I totally agree. Dubs are certainly not a deal breaker for me... but I am bummed that they aren't there. I've been so used to them being included.

But yes, I'd be perfectly fine with the dubs being added later on. There's no reason to delay the game. Hell, I'd hold off playing the story mode till they were added and just stick to playing multiplayer.

I plan on doing B for God Eater 2 tonight. Even though I have class tomorrow at noon, and I'm gonna be on campus till like 7pm....also my damn iMac finally came in today too. I'm too damn hype in general to sleep

I went with Option C: Fall asleep at 9pm in my bed and give it a go after work today. I respected your options though XD

I did Option D: Go to bed at 10pm because my wife tells me I've been staying up too late and she "sleeps better when I'm there. Maybe I'll do like when I was a kid and play my PS Vita under a blanket.

^This! Cept my GF complains that its too bright... Darn you OLED Brightness even when on the lowest setting! -_-

I wasn't planning on getting it anytime soon, but it's odd that there are 0 critic reviews for the released-today God Eater 2: Rage Burst, at least from the sites I frequent (Destructoid, IGN, DualShockers, Gamespot).

I can only guess that there were no review copies sent out or they were sent out very late. I would say that you could check Steam user reviews, but everybody seems to ecstatic that they're finally getting a non-shit port of a Monster Hunter genre game on PC that they're fine with whatever.

So far loving God Eater. The Blood Arts they added for each weapon add a ton of customization to the game, and make melee much more useful and interesting. (As opposed to Resurrection, where you could easily make bullets that can kill end game bosses in less than a minute).

Only gripe I have is the voice acting in cutscenes (Strangely only the ones without text boxes) sounds weirdly muffled and compressed, like an PSP game or something. Not sure if Namco Bandai was cheaping out on us, or if it was a geniuine bug (Which I assume it has to be, considering all the big name voice actors they have)

The original GE2 was a PSP game. I'm not sure if they claimed to redo the audio or anything, but if not, then that's probably why.

A handful of Trails of Cold Steel DLC is on sale in the PSN store this week--all individual Casual Clothes listings are $0.99 (half off) and all five Shining Pom Bait Packs (3 items in each pack, each of which summons an easily-killed enemy that gives an instant level up) are free. That will make getting Rean to Level 80 for the "best" clear data bonuses a cakewalk considering NG+ replenishes all of your DLC items.

Free shit on PSN this week (Damn you Vigilante, you beat me. I had more to write though). I did not see a PS4 equivalent of the Diva DLC, so I'm assuming it's included on disc?

Also, some Cold Steel DLC became free this week:

The Trial Set was already free, but I went ahead and included that anyways. The packs/trial set have enough bait to raise your level 18 times in-game and hit that level 80 threshold easily for data import next week (Do not use until at least level 62-65). Previously each pack was priced at $2 a pop. Individual Costume DLC ($1 Per Char/Costume | Vita / PS3) and the BASE GAME ($20 | Vita / PS3) is also half off as well. All the casual costumes can be imported into Cold Steel 2 as well!

Finally, it looks like there's a misprice on a Diva X song for the Vita. It's the correct price on the PS4, however the song is cross-buy, so buying it on Vita will give you the PS4 version to download as well.

EDIT: Fixed grammar and added some words.

EDIT 2: They've fixed the price mistake on the DIVA X song on Vita.

The song might be cross buy. I tried buying it to see but I can't. Keep getting an error saying "your purchase may not be complete"

Thanks Sony.

You're right, it's supposed to be cross-buy according to the SEGA site. It looks like it also says that the Snow Miku costumes are supposed to be free for a month starting today as well. Shows up as $8 currently for me though. :-({|=

Well, not that I'll be buying the game anyways. Getting the free DLC on the rare chance that I do would still be nice.

I really want the game, but I can't imagine the Day One version selling out anytime soon or staying full price for very long. I might wait a bit.

Don't screw up and miss out though. Like every other Namco Bandai game lately literally did have DLC that ended up being exclusive and impossible to get later

Also Resurrection didn't have sound issues, and apparently the PC version of this sounds fine too (But the Audio sounds like it cuts off early at times). Seems like a bug or bad compression or something

It sounds like you should buy the game. It's the right thing to do.

Ys VIII OST has been uploaded to Falcom's youtube channel. Better quality than the BGM Rip playlist and has 10 more total tracks. Not sure if any don't match the BGM Rip.

Slight double post, but I amended my free DLC post above with regards to the costume DLC. It looks like the costume DLC can carry over to Cold Steel 2. Source:

I wish the Costume Pack was on sale so I wouldn't have to manually download each outfit.

If you buy it through the web and add it to the download queue right after checkout it's not too bad on the PS3 & PS4. Doing that with the Vita only has like a 50% success rate I feel though. If it screws up, you have to go into the store on the Vita and manually add each costume at a time as it kicks you back to the beginning of your owned DLC list.

It's honestly one of the worst download systems I've had the pleasure of having to deal with if you're unable to queue up from the web.

If it were only that easy.

Yeah, no tumblr battles for me.

Some more free DLC. The 2010-2015 Snow Miku modules still aren't free in NA, but they are in Europe's PSN. However 2016 Snow Miku was recently put up in the last hour or so and is free due to a pricing mistake (It's supposed to be $2):

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X

PS4

Snow Miku 2016 Module - https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/addons/hatsune-miku-project-diva-x-snow-miku-2016/cid=UP0177-CUSA04518_00-PJDXDLCMIK322015

EDIT: It has been removed from the store.

EDIT 2: They re-added the DLC posted above, however it's now at the correct price.
