The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

The problem with Magus is it's coming too soon in late February, which is the same month with Dangan Ronpa LE, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles HD LE, Bravely Default CE and Toukiden. Already a good amount for one month and unlike those 4, this looks painfully average and looks like it will drop sometime soon enough. If it was June or something I would possibly think about it....and heck I may look at it then, by then would probably be 20 bucks or less haha. February is just too stacked overall with the niche games we like to take a chance on the painfully mediocre.

YMMV, but just a heads up that I've noticed Wal-Mart stocked Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut for the PS3 at $29.99 at some locations.  Not exactly a bargain price, but perhaps Rising Stars Games is clearing out their warehouse on that title.   The Walmart.com website lists it as OOS, but at $19.95, and we all know Walmart stores do not match the Walmart website, at least you can search and see if a Walmart near you carries it.

Thanks, this title is difficult to find locally. Wish I had known that Walmart previously sold it online for $20 (will have to try to find a copy in-store)

The :ps3: Magus preorder on Amazon dropped to $29.99. I don't know if that is going to the be the new price, but it might be worth locking in because there's not much risk in preordering with Amazon.
I might consider this. Wish there was more information on this game. All I could find was a short trailer on youtube. Gamestop doesn't even have a listing that I could find.

All Amazon has posted about it is:
  • Unleash Blistering Attacks - The world possesses red, green, and blue magic. Absorb these colors to unleash powerful magical attacks. Everything from devastating tornados to shapeshifting - Magus's abilities are sure to please any fantasy fan.
  • Evolve and Become Unstoppable - Choose between throwing fireballs or manipulating gravity - or both! Hone in on one type of magic to become the master of it or learn them all, and let no one stand in your way.

I'm almost considering getting Tales of Symphonia Chronicles HD, but is there a list of the changes for DotNW compared to the Wii version?  I didn't like how the old Symphonia characters were pretty much useless to use, monsters not being playable, and many other problems.  Otherwise I'll just wait it out for it to be under $20.

Just a quick question, would people rather get the Tales Collectors edition from amazon or gamestop. I got the xillia one from gamestop and I was impressed with the packaging. It fit pretty well in the box so there were practically no wear and tear on the box.

Is amazon a pretty reliable shipper when it comes to condition of their packages for collectors editions?

Nope, amazon are absolutely atrocious with shipping things and have been for the past 2-3 years.

I got the Xillia CE from Amazon and it came in perfect condition.

I don't know. I have an Amazon warehouse in my area and I don't have a problem with anything being shipped to me. maybe because it takes so little time to get to me with shipping there are fewer chances for something to go wrong.

That's more than likely what it is. They frequently put smaller boxed items in padded envelopes, they ship tons of things in those damn cardboard wrap arrounds instead of an actual box, and they frequently don't use enough padding even when they do choose to use a box. None of these are good shipping practices. I realize that some people still get perfect items from them--your case certainly has a plausible reason--but for most people, why play those odds?

You could always order a bundle of bubble wrap with each team you order from Amazon. Lol

Knowing Amazon they would ship the bubble wrap on its own with a million packets of air to protect it and the other item on its own in either a bubble mailer or a gigantic box with one packet of air.

I would get it from Gamestop by far. I remember reading this a week ago from a CAG about their horrible Amazon experience.

I second GS over Amazon.

However, the last few CEs I ordered from Amazon all arrived in boxes. They were still damaged because they had no side/edge protection, but they were at least in boxes.

The main reason is because I have prime and no shipping for amazon. Oh well, I think I'm just gonna stick with Gamestop then. Thanks

The game was OOS at the Walmart closest to me, but listed as 'limited stock' at the next closest location. Now I'm wondering whether or not their online indication of a store's stock of an item is actually reliable. By the way, thanks for the tip.

Bought Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 at GS yesterday. I decided to get it now just before it becomes harder to find, plus it was in decent shape.Cover looks a tiny bit faded (don't know if that's just how the cover is), but the disc appears to be in pristine, almost never opened condition.

For some reason, that description reminds me of a very old game from the original Xbox called Nightcaster. I actually remember enjoying that game so I'll keep an eye out for this one.

I've bought LEs from Amazon, New Egg, GameStop, and Best Buy on multiple occasions, and I would say that GameStop does the best job of packing those LEs so that they are not damaged in shipping.

I would have said that Best Buy does an equally great job, until they shipped my ACIV LE in its original packaging. Didn't even put it in a bag, just stuck a shipping label on the side and sent it off with the UPS man. I was surprised that the plastic slipcover was still on when the game arrived.

New Egg has consistently been the worst for me as far as shipment of LEs go. They just throw them into a padded envelope, and the LE almost always arrives with a crushed box.

Amazon has been just as bad as New Egg with the smaller LEs. With the bigger ones, though, their packing has been fine for the most part.

My personal rule of thumb now: any LE that is likely small enough to fit in a padded envelope should be ordered from GameStop. Any LE ordered from BB should be marked as a gift so they don't ship it in its original packaging.

has there been any news of hyper dimension vita remake coming to the U.S.? I'm thinking of selling my ps3 copy if it has improvements.
yea, id like to know too. I think i only bought the LE from NISA for that one and didn't pick up a vanilla copy to actually play. Id rather not open the LE when i get to it. Seems hard to get a new copy for a reasonable price

*looks at my pretty badly dented boxes for SMT IV and Project X Zone from Amazon*, yep... Buying a CE from Amazon is playing a game of chance. Always expect any CE from Amazon will come in damaged because they don't know how to fuck ing ship items and the people working at those shipping places probably just throw shit around.

The Tales CE isn't going to come in a bubble mailer though. I'd be really impressed if it did.

I bought the first one. Haven't played it yet. I kind of feel like I should have grabbed mk2 instead. Oh well.
I just completed Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 last night (easily) at around 27 hours and found it to be a pretty solid/funny JRPG. Of course there is replayability with alternate endings, with new game plus, scenes you get with specific conditions, et cetera. I'm looking to Platinum the game and it hasn't gotten overly tedious as you can skip cut scenes and breeze through most of the content with the NG+ stats. You can also download free add-ons for new zones for specifically power leveling, and getting new items. Plus an arena to fight stronger opponents.

I have the Collector's Edition of HN: Victory, but I'm hesitant to open it. I bought Tales of Xillia:CE from Namco's site for about half off. Ended up taking advantage of PS+ and bought the digital download for $10. I shouldn't be such a collector-snob.

Maybe. There might be a single game in the glass case, or none at all. At least that was my experience. I remember trying to find a 'limited stock' Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition and they couldn't locate it anywhere.

Here are some finds that I came across at Walmart.com, some you may already know and some you may not.  There are some Nintendo published titles from smaller Japanese developers and Harvest Moon titles from Natsume in there.  The quality and price varies, but just a note, as many of you known the North American publishing arms of Ignition Entertainment and Hudson have closed, so these are some of the last you'll see from them as they cleared out stock - I don't know how rare some will become.  Here they are:

Awesome that this is coming here. The censoring is unfortunate. I wonder how severe that will be.

Anyone know how import friendly the Japanese version is for a non-Japanese speaker?

Edit: I have a bad habit of asking questions, THEN going to Google. Second post here covers import-friendliness
