CAGiversary!

The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Been playing a little more of Sorcery Saga. I don't know. I really want to like it, but so far it's easy beyond belief, so it doesn't feel much like a rogue-like. But I did just come off New Game +7 on Rogue Legacy, so it might just be me.
this is why i cancel my order. Too many people saying it was very easy and very short Less then 10 to 15 hours

For those who want Amazon to price match the Namco sale (and don't want to deal with Digital River) - please submit that Namco's "Tales of the Abyss" is $14.97:

http://store.namcobandaigames.com/store/namcous/en_US/buy/ThemeID.24355600/productID.237317400/categoryID.67518600

and

Tales of Graces is $19.97

http://store.namcobandaigames.com/store/namcous/en_US/buy/ThemeID.24355600/productID.246549900/categoryID.67518600

Too bad the Namco sale requires you to purchase three titles... But hope Amazon prices matches them.

I really like Crimson Shroud!
I probably will get this and maybe the other Guild game.

Curry Vita being an easy game....sigh...it's currently being delivered to me, I like challenging rogue likes so if I beat it quickly it will quickly be sold back or such....Also hearing about the length of the game...i'll see when mines comes next week though.

I was hoping "Denpa Men and "Denpa" Men 2 was on sale but I may try to get the other Guild Games.  I keep debating on "Crimson Shroud"....as I love RPG games, but I really am not into table top RPG games.

If you played the Atlus version, #4 and #5 will be much easier since there is no timer (vacation time).  While #5 is my favorite, #4 is awesome as well.

I'm personally glad it's easy . I want to be able to experience the full game and beat it .
Ditto, and I'm glad it's a bit short, too. I'm 32 years old and wondering if I have enough time left in my life to play all the games I've amassed, not even accounting for the fact that games keep coming out (duh). Pretty sad!

not to mention I seem to play games slower than the rest of the world. I keep hearing people say Zelda: Link Between Worlds is 12-15 hours long. I've been playing it 14 hours and still have four sages left to rescue! I have no idea why I'm so much slower.

I feel like an idiot buying Tales of the Abyss at launch. I thought it was supposed to be a limited print run.
If it makes you feel better, I'm not sure many people were able to even get it. Even when it was showing up in stock, the stupid thing wouldn't add to the cart. :/

That makes two of us. There are times I just want to play that easy rpg/dungeon crawler without having my brain firing on all cylinders trying to figure out way to maximize stats, weapons, exploring time, etc.

Man those days where you had no responsibilities other than keeping yourself alive, were so awesome.

Is it me or are the sales quite insane for the holidays as of late...man, I didn't expect to spend this much.  I thought my spending was over post-Cyber Monday and then I get the games on eShop, ZOE on sale today, Killer is Dead back at $19.99, Man of Steel Blu-ray went on sale today... Man I'm spending way too much...lol..

It's just you.

I didn't even stay up for Black Friday this year. About two or three years back, I'd be surprised if any of the regulars in this thread weren't planning their sleep schedules around the deals. This year? Drought. You can blame Japan for not putting out anything worthwhile.

Of course if you're not talking about Japanese games specifically, that's debatable. But this really wasn't the best year for J-game deals.

I was honestly expecting something awesome like the XSEED sale from last year. I'm pretty much in complete agreement with you, this Black Friday was a bit of a bust.

I have not played a lot of roguelikes, so when you guys say Sorcery Saga is easy would you say it's easy compared to ZHP/Guided Fate Paradox?

I was happy snagging Soul Hackers for $10 & the Killer Is Dead LE for $20 during the BF/CM sales, but yeah by & large not a ton of great Japanese game deals.  Then again, I typically get the Japanese stuff I really want at or near release because I feel it's more important to show that stuff support - especially since most of it is localized by small companies.

New blog post went up, the Vita version of the FF X|X-2 remakes will be released same day as the PS3 version. Vita will be $39.99 for both games. The physical copy will have FFX on a cartridge and a download code for FFX-2.

Also announced a collector's edition that's exclusive to the SquareEnix store for $79.99, including a full size art book, a "blu ray music disk", and five lithographs of iconic artwork. I want it, I'm just not sure I want it for twice the price...

According to the rep that posted on the blog, the physical version will have both on disk.. Man, I was about to rage!! lol

Sakura Minamida on December 16th, 2013 at 5:11 am said:

Hi Electivirus! The game will be downloadable on PSN for both Vita and PS3. If you are asking if the hard copy of the PS3 also has a X-2 voucher, then no it doesn’t. The hard copy of the PS3 version has both games in one disc and only the Vita will be a combo with the FFX Cartridge and FFX-2 voucher packed in. Hope this answers your question!

Why don't they just put Tales of the Abyss on the eShop already? What's the deal? Also, how can I get them to do a barebones translation and eShop release of Game Center CX 3?

I didn't enjoy it at the time! I didn't know what I had. I was too busy feeling weird, different, alone and socially anxious.

I'm beginning to agree with you. I regret the Japanese games I haven't supported day one. At least on Wii U and 3DS, I now grab stuff day one (and have only been burned once really--Hometown Story, yes, I bring it up yet again!). Sometimes I grab Vita games day one, too (Sweet Fuse, Sorcery Saga, Persona 4). I sort of regret the PS3 games I have not yet supported and really want (D2 and Guided Fate Paradox in particular), BUT I AM ONLY A MAN. When I have a good job, I will do a lot more day one purchasing (and ironically probably not have the time to play them right away anyway).

Glad they came to their sense! If it was going to be $40 each for Vita versions and $40 total for both PS3, I would have been really annoyed. It really should just be cross-buy. :p

I don't know if SqEn games ever drop in price. They are so funny about digital releases, too (there are about 10,000 games I want them to put on PSN, the eShop and Virtual Console). Anwyay, long way for me to say I'm gonna grab the Vita one the day it releases. I don't know if my support is warranted. Maybe they will misconstrue my support as "oh, he wants FFXV and more dorky action-RPGs!" which is not the case...

I wouldn't mind if Square Enix also released a Vita cartridge version of Final Fantasy X-2 with Final Fantasy X as the downloadable voucher.  I'm sure someone out there would buy it just to have both Vita games on cartridge.

Still waiting for a sale on Final Fantasy III (PSP digital version.)

Yeah, if there were a sale I'd pick up 1-4. Maybe FFT despite the slowdown, though probably I'll just emulate the fixed version on PC instead because that still pisses me off.

Considering 5...but I hear bad things about the PSX versions. I do wish they'd port the iOS version of 5 to PSN. I also wish they'd do remakes of the PSX games, FF9 in particular though I'd like to give Xenogears another try as well. They're just so incredibly ugly that it's hard to go back and play the original versions.

They drop quick nowadays. The only question is if their store exclusives will also drop quickly or if they'll retain their price/be limited.

Eh, a couple hours. I had a +6 weapon and a +6 shield that I still haven't gotten back.

Debatable.
Instead of equipping my +18 sword, I accidentally threw it at Kuu. I was not pleased, but it's those stupid mistakes that you have to watch out for in Sorcery Saga. As unhappy as I was, I like the idea that they don't take it easy on you for those problems.

I was under the impression it was a direct port of the console version.

I've played it a bit and liked it! Definitely worth the $2.50.
The console versions had some severe framerate issues and really bad pop-ins. The framerate issues were eliminated (reportedly) and the pop-ins improved significantly (though this is Unreal Engine which is well-known for texture pop-in issues.) In the PC version you can make some ini file changes to make FOV changes and increase the viewing distance as well as some other things that might be worthwhile: http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/PC_Tweaking

Additionally there were quite a few changes to the game content based on feedback of the console version. here's a good summary: http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/Differences_between_Xbox_360_and_PC_versions

So, if I decide to bite the bullet and order the FFX|X-2 Collector's Edition from Digital River, what possible nightmares might I experience?
They could cancel your order if your credit card gets declined/have to change it before the ship date. They could cancel your order if your address does not match the address on the credit card.
They could cancel your order if they run out of stock and decide to ship 300 to canada to resell.
They could cancel your order if they run out of stock and decide to ship newer orders before older ones.
They could cancel your order for the shiggles
They could crush your box and only offer returns instead of replacements
They could take 5-7 days to ship from the shipping date (which will probably not be the release sate)
They could laugh at me as I end up buying the game despite all the horrible history they have ._.

They could crush your box and only offer returns instead of replacements
This is the one that really concerns me. I don't order LEs from Amazon anymore because they always end up somewhat damaged and I'm willing to spend the extra couple dollars in taxes to buy it in stores. Do they have a history of packaging things poorly, or is it a "If you happen to have really bad luck and a 300 pound UPS guy sits on your package, you're screwed"?

No cross-buy? *sighs* Such a shame that such a great idea that no one is using anymore. But I understand why. It's money.

reprint doesn't surprise me on abyss considering they did around a 50k print in na in the first place and only 5- 10k in eu.

sales wise this year wasn't so bad. ni no kuni and fire emblem awakening were 15, graces and xillia were 20, soul hackers and another title was 10 and xenoblade dropped back down to 40.  I've seen better sales but those were good enough.

Well I just did it and Lightning went smooth, I actually GOT a confirmation number! This time, there's a pending charge on my card showing that the confirm button DID work, but sent me to a blank screen... Time to use their awesome CS via email, with however long that'll take!

...anyone here make a successful HD Collection CE order?

Well, I decided to go through with it. I have no confirmation number, but I do have a pending charge. Also, if your blank screen was like my blank screen, it wasn't actually blank, it's just that the text was the same color as the background. Highlighting it revealed a "Your order has been completed." type message.

Edit: Just got an order confirmation email with an order number!

highly recommend The Last Remnant on PC. I think it's a hugely underrated gem. The 360 version had a lot of technical issues, and people just overlooked it when it came out on PC. You can see this by how the PC version just got the same scores as the 360, which is utterly ridiculous; the PC version was vastly improved.

The battle system is just awesome; I never got tired of it, and I played the game for over 300 hours.

Wow... that's horrible :/ Wish I kept that page open... Did you get a confirmation number on it?

Also since the site is terrible and I had to reset my password AGAIN, then temporarily locked my account due to 'suspicious activity'. According to the email phishing guide, it is a legit email sent. Looks like it is...

Oh, looks like I JUST got a confirmation email. Not sure if slow or if my CS email actually came through.

I ordered the HD Collection CE this morning as soon as I read the post on the PS blog, because I'm a X/X-2 whore.  :p  Got a confirmation email with an order number very shortly after placing the order, so hopefully everything will go smoothly.

I might bite on the Lightning Returns set if BB were selling it and I could get the GCU discount on it.  But I don't really see $90 worth of content there myself.  I'll be content with just the game on that one, I have a feeling I'll be shelling out for a Xillia 2 CE soon enough anyway.... :whistle2:?

Wow... that's horrible :/ Wish I kept that page open... Did you get a confirmation number on it?
Yeah, I got it shortly after I made that post.

Now to decide if I want to pre-order the vita version from BB or GS so I can play it release day if Digital River doesn't ship on time...

Hatsune Miku seems to slowly be getting rarer and rarer. Gamestop.com is sold out of new copies, and Amazon's price went up from the 50$ range to like 60$.

Just placed a pickup request for a Gamestop like 10 miles away that had a new copy(No idea how the hell to get there). For some reason Fry's keeps going in and out of stock for instore pickup, and I don't want to risk a 20 mile drive in the snow for nothing

Miku = love! I can't justify either Final Fantasy CEs coming out....I'd say the FFX HD collection is the better one, but that seems more like 20 dollars more worth to me than being 40 dollars more. Lightning Returns is missing a lot of what I like in a CE (Soundtracks and Artbooks are generally my main prerequisites for a CE and this one only has one of those), and I will likely pass on the game early as well and pick it up when it's half price or 75% off or such. Still not sure about the Danganronpa LE either....will likely get it though as the extra price is pretty small.

this might just be worse than Ni no Kuni!

tried to order X/X-2 CE twice.  no confirmation emails and blank page after entering everything at checout.

I had so much trouble creating an account on Square-Enix (the shop uses same login right?).  the second email I received (registration completed) shows my user name with a '3' tacked on the end...  then after trying to place orders, I received another email (from autoinfo_us just like the prior one) about login restrictions and to reset my password (account temp suspended wtf).  reset it and can login.  the SE site is fucking terrible.  I wonder if DR handles the SE site itself and not just the store.
