The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I really prefer to have physical copies of games over digital and I prefer to play on console than handheld. Can anyone tell me what exactly the "plus" versions of the Atelier games are?
What do they add?

It includes all the DLC from the original game release and usually a couple pieces of new content such as a dungeon, bosses and costumes. Rorona Plus is the exception where it basically updated all the gameplay/graphics and is more of a remake on top of including all of the DLC and such.

Thanks for letting me know. I feel like it'd be a decent idea just to play the original versions, since I prefer to own physical copies and play on console, and maybe sometime in the future revisit "plus" versions.

You can play them on a PS TV if you have one for that "console" feel. But they're digital only, so that counts them out for you I guess.

Don't have PS TV yet. In fact, my VIta is a Christmas present, so technically I don't quite have that yet.

Wouldn't the Vita's graphics be a downgrade to the PS3 graphics, anyway?

Blea.. well thats very disappointing. I most definitely will NOT be doing my usual 2 LE copy purchase. Actually i need to sit and think if i will just be flat out canceling the one i do have. Audio removal sucks but i may have been able to live with. Activly censoring images by adding 'fog' or strategically placed items or whatever is BS. Its not as bad as totally removing crap like they did with Mugen Souls, but its still censorship and its friggin dumb. *sigh* i dunno, should i cancel my order completely? Im not even sure if the game is my thing anyway. My backlogs so huge i rarely open these anyway its more of a collectors thing

/clap Pretty much my thoughts on the subject entirely. I dont understand how games still seem to have their own seperate little rules for this kind of crap. In my state a 10 year old gets carded for buying a T rated game or anything like that, but they can go and buy a copy of Hostel with no issue.. wtf, seriously just, wtf!?

I honestly dont know why NISA keeps picking this stuff up if they keep mangling the releases. If you cant bring it over right, just pick something else. Theres tons of other rpgs and niche titles you can bring over. WHy keep grabbing ecchi crap and then butchering it? I really dont understand the point. Screw NISA
it has do with western/american culture

Anyone asking if they should cancel the answer is yes, absolutely.

You should actually keep making orders and then cancelling them to send a message.

Good question. People have said that Totori Plus has some framerate issues. Also, I'm not too sure about these specs, but the vita's native res is 960x544. And the PSTV can upscale it to 1080i. So the PS3 versions are the only ones that can display at 1080p right now. Unless there's some HD collection down the line. We still haven't heard anything about that german rating leak yet right?

There is already a lot to do in Atelier games even if you are not playing the Plus version.

That would be the way to go for Totori and Meruru, they really don't add so much that you might as well play it on what you want. And with Rorona, the Plus version is on PS3.

I'm quite sure that the Atelier games on the PS3 run at 720p.

It doesn't matter if the box says 1080p because upscaled is not the same as native.

720p has a lot more jaggies than 1080p

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet.

Haven't played any of the Atelier games on PS3, but after looking up the extra features, I'll just wait for a cheaper price on the Vita versions.  Graphics look the same to me and the inclusion of some things like fast message scroll speed, extra content, portability, item/battle/system/party member/filtering adjustments, and inclusion of the DLC seal it for me.

Western culture's a lot different from Japanese and that's where the issues lie. I mean, Japan's so "unique" that they never got around to banning child porn until a year ago and that viewpoint simply doesn't fly in the West. Like it or not that's how its probably going to be until perspectives change (which they prob won't anytime soon). That and I honestly think most publishers got scared after the Rapelay amazon fiasco and are going to err on the side of caution so they don't just get their games banned outright.

I just bought some stuff from amazon:

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - $25 (I wish I picked it up earlier to get the LE goods and then just price matched later)

Tales of Xillia 2 - $20 (Don't have Xillia yet, but I'm looking for it. Hoping the first one drops to $20 again)

Lightning Returns - $15 (Haven't even beaten XIII yet but I figure this is about as low as it gets. It might go to $10 in the future, but I don't think I'll feel like I paid too much at $15)

This is all there is to say on the matter. Taboos and social norms here and not the same as they are there. Those that live here should really be able to see and understand this--rather than ignoring the differences between the two cultures and soap boxing about censorship on a purely black and white level; the world exists in shades of grey, after all.

Let's say someone compared a screenshot of GTA V to a crime scene photo of a murder victim and argued that the two were equivalent. This person would be roundly dismissed as a moron. The key difference being that a human being is victimized in the latter image. I think loli imagery is disgusting but I disagree with censoring media based on whether or not it is deemed "offensive". A sentiment that many people in America do not seem to share.

Wasn't this thread purged a year or two ago for devolving into a censorship debate? Can we just go back to posting niche game deals?

Thank you for the deals and trying to guide us back to the point of the thread. I'm snagging several of these as my PSP collection is quite embarrassingly small.

Those prices! ;-;

I don't have my PSP anymore so can't get any of them. Was hoping Trails in the Sky would be a digital copy.

I've never played a Lunar game before. Looking at the series is kind of confusing. Is there a definitive version with all the games or a "best" starting point?

I have a PS1 and Saturn, but not a SEGA CD if it's relevant to your answer.

Lunar Silver Star was the first game and had several versions which are all retellings of the same story which was remade/update to suit the times and are not Ports to newer systems. The only one that was really different was Lunar legends I believe as they made strange alterations and tried to be comical. Personally i liked the Sega CD version best but I might be alone on this. I played very little of the PSP one (probably because I played to many iterations of it and had many newer games to play) but I can say it was just as good as the playstation version.

Lunar: Walking school and Lunar Magic School(remake name) was japan only release which was a spinoff with setting 100 years before Lunar silver star.

Lunar Eternal Blue was the second one but its not a direct continuation and can be played as a separate game just like final fantasy 1,2,3, etc. I only played the Playstation version so I cant compare it to the sega CD version.

Lunar Dragon Song is the newest story to the series and is totally different game from the rest of the series. Many feel like this game betrayed loyal Lunar fans hope at a new lunar game. This one can just be skipped.

Thanks, that's helpful. :D

Lunar 2 IS a direct sequal, it happens 500 (?) years after Lunar 1, but it's fully enjoyable alone, yes.

I think most people consider the Saturn/PSX version the definative ones for both games.

Which is why i said not a direct "continuation" because sequel will make you think it may continue story of the first one. And it was 1000 years after Lunar 1.

Also there's Lunar Silver Star Touch for iOS, which is another port/remake that support some touch screen.

It was pretty decent to mess around with, as I never played the originals, but also rather steep price for CAG community, not to mention no physical copy, so... I don't normally purchase those sorts of things but I really was in a fix for some decent RPG grinding on iOS!

Secondly, in regards to Rorona on PS3 and Rorona Plus on PS Vita, I also remember reading some things about the time constraints and event trigger flags (the most difficult aspect of the game to deal with) were somehow made much, much easier--I forget how or why but just know that Rorona Plus, looks better and is a much easier game, somehow, which may affect your decision on which game to actually jump into the series with.

10pages ago i didn't believe the guy who said this would turn into a 10pg censorship debate, I was wrong to doubt him lol. Well, more on point does anyone know if the New sword art online game for ps3 has been announced for a westward release? Or so far is it just confirmed for a English sub, eastern release that can be imported?

Told ya. I know all and see all lol

Pretty much every PS3 game is region free, so at the very worst, you could always import.
