The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!
No, we're really not. Have you ever bought a game that had a curse word censored? Did you immediately take it back to the store? It's the same principle yet I highly doubt you gave a shit.

Everyone seems to think that if we accept this little form of censorship, we'll accept any form of censorship. It's not black and white. There is a limit to what most people will accept. Most people will accept the censorship of a bathing scene of girls that look prepubescent. If they want to start censoring large blocks of the game that are slightly considered satirical of the government, then no, I doubt people will accept that.

It's a similar argument used by people who are against gay marriage. Well, if we let gays marry, what's next? Letting people marry animals? No, that's not next, that's not even a consideration. There is nothing next.
Strongly agree on all counts.
There's something called object sexuality, and some countries will not only let people marry animals, they'll let people marry objects.
Not sure what that has to do with my point, unless you were just bringing it up as an interesting fact.
Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 just dropped to $19.99 on Amazon (DS). Get it now before it goes back up!

ADDING TO THE ORIGINAL POST:

ATLUS' Deep Labrinth (DS) is $9.00 on Amazon:

Looks the Deep Labyrinth that was on sale by a third party (fulfilled by Amazon) has sold out for $9.99 has sold and the R-Type command third party was sold as well.

But the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 sold through Amazon is still $19.99 as of right now.

And for Tekken fans...you may want to go by your Target and check the clearance aisle for the clearanced "Tekken 3D". Picked up a copy for $8.70:

And last...this one is in Japan (rel. 10/18) but hoping XSEED will release the upcoming "The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki Evolution" stateside:

Unless SC does phenomenally when it's released, in which case they could throw more resources behind it, they'll probably keep working at a snails pace on the series and get to Evolution sometime around 2017 or so (since they need to release SC and TC first which should eat the next 3-4 years at the current pace before they can even start on Evolution).

Its a shame that FC only released on PSP since it probably would have sold much better on PS3 or Steam. Though apparently Falcom is working on a PS3 port of the first game now, so maybe if that comes over more people will take notice of the series.

Low print for the standard edition? No, I don't think it will be hard to find. Lower than 37.99? Possibly, but it will take a while to drop in price.

The special editions will be gone forever once they sell out. They are NISA store exclusives, and both say "under 50% stock remains" atm. It seems odd though, because both special editions reached that point at the same time and they sent out a newsletter about it, as if they artficially moved them both down to that level to get more preorders. They've been at that level for a long time now.

Most NISA games are sold out before release, but this doesn't seem like it will be the case for this game. I cancelled my preorder in hopes of them lowering the price eventually. I think the only other SE that got discounted in the past was totori and disgaea 4. Plus a good amount of people are not buying the game because of the censorship. If you read the playstation blog they posted this week, a lot of people commented about it.

If I knew a game was censored then I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Once opened games can't be returned (afaik, and I never shop gamestop).

If you knew a book was censored (several pages removed), would you have bought it? What about a painting that had a part of it obscured? Would you listen to a song that had beeps in it (curse word removed)? How about a movie that goverment decided to censor? Video games are a work of art and knowing that it's censored would affect my enjoyment of it. I want to experience games as the artists (developers) intended. Besides, buying censored products sends a wrong message to the authorities. It tells them that it's acceptable and makes them more likely to do it in the future.

As for gay marriage, first, I don't see why you had to bring it up, and second I've never heard of anyone object to it for the reason you mentioned. That's just plain stupid.

Don't like it, but still buying it. I really don't get it. I have American-released anime with topless lolis, but I don't recall any of those blowing up.

I hope this doesn't totally destroy your world view, but virtually every Japanese RPG that has ever been released in the United States is censored. Sometimes like in the case of Yakuza, word gets out and there is a reaction. Most of the time nobody brings it up or even cares. As for the gay marriage issue, that's exactly the argument many evangelicals make about the slippery slope that will allegedly be created if gay marriage is legalized. Spend five minutes listening to conservative talk radio anytime the issue is hot again because of a court ruling and every other caller makes the same absurd point.

Did you film yourself burning the game or smashing it in protest? Did you at least trade it in to get it out of your house? Or did you just ignore it and keep playing?

Did you not read my post? It's not all censorship or no censorship. There is a limit to what people will take. Most people don't care that a bathing scene featuring prepubescent girls is no longer in a game, which is why this game is still selling. This isn't telling the authorities that we love censorship and censor whatever you want. This is telling the authorities that we're okay with you censoring bathing scenes featuring prepubescent little girls.

I have an old Ma$e CD where a lyric says he got head from Brandy, but Brandy's name is censored, even in the explicit version, and probably for legal reasons. Am I not going to buy the entire CD because one word is censored? No, that's fuckin ridiculous. Almost every Marvel comic censors curse words. Am I not going to buy Marvel comics now despite how much I love reading them? No, that's fuckin ridiculous.

However, would I be okay with the government censoring large portions of these comics because they don't fit in with their agenda? Absolutely not. Would I be okay with the government declaring that rap songs can only be made about Mountain Dew? Absolutely not. Buying a Marvel comic with a censored curse word does not tell the government, "Hey, censor whatever you want! I'm totally cool with it!"

It was an analogy, that's why I brought it up. Just because we're okay with one thing doesn't mean we're okay with anything. Just admit you wanted to bathe some prepubescent little girls and stop talking about the "principle" of it because that argument is bullshit.

This argument again? Some people are against censorship regardless of the material and it has nothing to do with them liking it. If you are ok with it, then buy the game. Others don't have to hold the same views.
Just admit you wanted to bathe some prepubescent little girls and stop talking about the "principle" of it because that argument is bullshit.
It's just like when people say they are against gay marriage because it goes against the sanctity of marriage. No, you just don't like gay people. Don't use bullshit arguments to hide your true agenda.

You have no right to say that as an absolute. Marriage has religious roots. Gay marriage does go against those. It's fine if you don't agree with, and clearly don't understand, that. It's not fine, though, to spew that kind of filth. I will even concede that can be case sometimes Hell, anything can be the case sometimes; it's when you start putting out absolute statements like that, that your argument starts having problems.

Also, shame on all of you for starting the pedo-censoring conversation again. We had a lot of butt-hurt closet pedos last time, and there is no reason to start that again. =P

Stop talking about "censorship" and start talking about what really matters: Price bump from $50 to $100 on the Standard Edition/Limited Edition. I hate when statues/figures ruin the price of CE/LE's. Artbook, Soundtrack, Steelbook or Collector's box, and it's good. The extras like posters, calendars, were just that, extras. *shakes fist at statues* NIS America used to charge $50-$65 not long ago for Premium editions.

I have no problem with the censorship of the game, and I think NIS dodged a bullet for not bringing that part to the US. Are we really making that big a deal of censoring a scene where you wash little girls? What does that add to the gameplay?

If you're against gay marriage because it goes against the sanctity of marriage, then you should absolutely be against divorce for the same reason. Do you see those people picketing divorce courts? Divorce is a much more prevalent offense against the sanctity of marriage yet I don't think I've ever seen a protest against it.

I'm just saying, if you're gonna be against something, do it for a good reason and not for a reason that's easily shut down by logic. Don't tell me you don't like Obama because he's a Muslim socialist. Do it because you don't like his economic or foreign policies.

I'm against people getting married when they are too young or haven't been together for long enough to make that decision. That's pre-emptive medicine! lol

As for the Obama thing (you keep bringing up new subjects!!! lol) I think the quote of his voice saying: "Yes, I do believe in redistribution" holds up fairly well to good ol' logic...

What you think is a "good" reason is just your opinion. Your logic is also far from perfect. The people against censorship regardless of what it is are at least consistent. It's pretty hypocritical to be against something for one reason, but not another.

Right, that's why old, non-religious marriages exist. And what about polygamy, that was once allowed even under Christianity? So because the cult now says it's not allowed, no one can practice it no matter their religion. And if you believe the Bible so much about marriage, maybe you should lobby for women to stay in the kitchen too.

You do know when the Bible was written, right? What old, non religious marriages are you referring to? Those would have to be reallllly old. As far as the polygamy, that is, as far as I know, only in the Old Testament. There are many things in the OT not observed by Christians (just read Leviticus for starters) because the Christian covenant was with Jesus in the NT. Now if we were talking about Judaism, those OT examples would make for a very interesting discussion!

As far as your final 'slight' one must remember when the Bible was actually written. Interpreting and updating to modern times is a mess of hermeneutics, that's for sure. Given that women's place in the world has changed as recently as last century, and still hasn't in many countries, you can't expect that to be reflected in something as old as the Bible. That is also not as black and white of a subject as marriage. Marriage is defined as man/woman; it's a simple one, really. I think gay people should be able to have civil unions that grant them the exact same legal rights; it's just fundamentally not a marriage.

I'm not a very religious person, but I do find the study of all these things to be quite fascinating.

But they aren't. How many people who canceled their Mugen Souls pre-order bought a re-release of FFVII? I know for a fact that FFVII censors curse words. Did they pass on what some consider to be one of the greatest RPGs of all time because of some censored curse words?

It only seems to be a major issue amongst these gamers when its censorship of this type: weird sexified portrayals of girls that look like they're 8.

In all honesty, that is a good point. This has just gotten more press because of what was censored. Nearly everything that we consume from Japan is censored to some degree or another. This is just a 'big' thing being censored. Why is the line being drawn here, at something that is just awful in every way?

Nothing should be censored. Nearly everything is censored in some way. Even if it is not for content it is censored by the editor. Does a director's vision make it to the screen or the editor's? Or is it the MPAA which had members of the church sitting in on their meetings?

Spilered because cover may be NSFW I recommend this movie to put some of this into perspective...at least in the film industry.

Ancient Greece and China, the latter was obviously not reading the Bible.

You really don't see how forcing marriage as between a man and a woman violates the religious rights of anyone who believes otherwise, such as polygamy and same-sex?

It's hard to say. I'm guessing it will NOT be a low print, because of the stupid censor backlash everyone is in an uproar over. I, however, will be getting it regardless.

This is going to be deleted anyway because the thread was cleaned, buuuut:

The US was built on Christian principles. With that in mind, this makes a fair amount of sense. Other countries are built on other principles, and that's perfectly fine. Also, the man/woman definition has nothing to do with why polygamy is illegal. After all, polygamy could be man/woman/woman/woman, eh? Gays can get all the marriage rights they want, polygamy is still not going to be legal. Why is that specific instance even being brought up by you so often? Can you not decide between two potential spouses and this is how it manifests? =P

I bring it up because Christians tend to ignore everything that they don't like, even if it's from the same source. The divorce argument someone else brought up is another example, if you can't get past the idea that forcing polygamy because Christians no longer believe in it means no one can practice it.

BTW, can we just move it to Vs. instead of having everything deleted?

Ragnorok64-

I think the plotline for Etrian Odyssey IV has to do with selectively imposing one's own hypocritical values on another group while at the same time scapegoating that group for personal deviant inadequacies and emotional baggage.

And there will be mapping.

The U.S. also supposedly allows for freedom of religion and supposedly believes in the separation between religion and state. At least, that was the idea.

Separation of church and state refers to the church not running the government. That doesn't mean that the people that make the laws must all be atheist and agnostic, so that those things don't make their way in. lol

It means we don't make laws based on religious beliefs/arguments.

It really specifically means that the church is not running the government. People take that term to mean all sorts of things to be used in arguments, but it specifically refers to the church not running the government.

Damnit. Anyone got their Code of Princess in yet? I got a padded envelope in today and to my dread it had code of princess in. With the cover ripped and smashed to hell.

I think im just going to stop buying from Amazon. Their only bonus was lack of tax ans they dont even have that anymore. I dont know what their problem is but they have been shipping collectors editions in completely inadequate packaging far too often lately.

Mine came yesterday from Newegg. It looked like an elephant stepped on it*.

*Ok, it wasn't that bad, but it was creased on all four sides. I fired them off an email yesterday about a replacement, but I've heard nothing back yet. It was actually crushed enough that the sticker sealing the box is flapping around.

I had the same exact experience. The only noticeable imperfection was that the tape on one side lost its adhesiveness.

It would probably be quicker and easier to just contact customer service via their telephone number.

Where? I only see Standard Edition for $50 and it has soundtrack, but no artbook, and $100 one with everything

Anybody that's ordering a boxed game from Newegg with a discount should order a spare from Gamestop. That way you get a copy in perfect condition (Gamestop packs things brilliantly) and you can return the beat up one to Gamestop. If you don't agree with it, don't do it, but it certainly works well for me.
