ordered Wheelman for 360, i'm hesitating whether to pick up both Golden Axe Beast Rider and Sega Rally Revo
I'd go with Sega Rally. I'm a longtime Sega fan and I picked up Golden Axe on sale for $15, hoping that the reviews were wrong.

They were not. Golden Axe is one of the most mundane gaming experiences in recent memory. The graphics are an unrelenting wash of brown, the controls are spongy, you fight the same few enemies over and over and over, and it's just NOT fun.
I thought about picking up Operation Darkness at 9$ anyone know if it's worth it at that price?

I was also tempted at (or near) that price. Then I played the demo. The camera is by far the worst camera in the history of video games. I don't know how they botched it so bad. Play the demo before you buy.
I picked it up due to the lack of retail turn-based strategy games on the 360. Atlus followed it up with Spectral Force 3 and Zoids, but Spectral Force has Nintendo 64 graphics and I tire of giant robot games. WWII with Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies? I'm in.

The camera breaks the game for most people and I agree it is utterly horrible but I still managed to play the game. I definitely agree you should try the demo to see if you're willing to work around it. The thing that got me is that there is a screen that comes up during your turn to confirm movement, but you can't undo your choice once you've made it. What the hell is the point of the confirmation then? You could make worse turn-based strategy choices on the 360, but you could also make much better ones on Live Arcade.

Golden Axe wasn't too bad, but in the same genre, there are so many better games.

I actually got the Golden Axe, which takes 100,000,000 tribute. I wish I had all of those hours back because the weapon sucks. Although, I was able to get a few more achievements with it.

I don't agree with that at all. I really liked Golden Axe's graphics. I suppose I could fall back on the old YOU EXPECT A WASTELAND TO BE BRIGHT DISNEY COLORS canard, but we're not on 4chan or GameFAQs here.

Hooooleeee crap. I did not believe anyone could grind that much.

Actually, that reminded me of why I traded Gaxe in to begin with... Trying to go back through the game with perfect rankings, I ran up against my old enemy, one of the worst designed game mechanics out there: Chaining. It turned Ikaruga into a crapfest and I wouldn't let it do the same to Golden Axe, so I punted that puppy.

I ordered samauri warriors 2 last week and received it yesterday. It has definitely been re-shrink wrapped, the MS security sticker is still intact though.

I think a lot of folks who claim "rewrapped" are mostly overreacting. I've seen a lot of budget games sold with shrink wrap rather than the normal wrap.

Sorry, I didnt mean to come off like I was complaining about it, I was more or less just putting it out there. But this game was definitely rewrapped, out of the 150+ games I have bought for the 360 I have never seen one that was wrapped like this one is. Sure I have seen shrink wrapped games but this is a horrible shrink wrap job.

Last year when Street Fighter IV (360) was released the copies contained either of two types of wrapping: the normal y-fold wrap and a really hideous looking shrink job. Both were released from the factory that way and were authentic.

If the case is new underneath, it has the Microsoft seal and the disc is mint, then you really should have nothing to worry about.

Yeah thats how the wrap is on this. You're right, since the security sticker was still intact I really didnt worry about it. I have just never seen such a shitty wrapping job on a game before though.

My Bionic Commando, Silent Hill 360, and Dragon Quest Swords order has been shipped. At those prices, I don't even care if they're resealed.
I am really itching to get Bionic Commando. There's just something about games under $10 that makes you want to buy them.
This. I've bought so many games from this thread that my backlog has ballooned to a ridiculous size. This thread has made me wonder if I might be a shopaholic...

ordered 50 cent. I rented this when it came out and liked it, but I didn't finish it. For $10 bucks its a no brainer. For those of you on the fence about Bionic Commando for $9 you can't go wrong, i beat this game and liked it alot. I picked it up for $20 when gamestop had the sale. And feel it was worth $20. Underrated game IMHO.
Hooooleeee crap. I did not believe anyone could grind that much.
To get the Golden Axe, with the Battler's Blade, I had to average around 1.25 million tribute per run on Living Sacrifices. Each run, with loading time, took between 4 to 5.5 minutes. Sometimes, especially when I was first feeling the game out, I would die. Also, I played Fiend's Pet a dozen or so times. On the last fifty million tribute, I think I died maybe five times max. I don't know how many hours I played the game, but I think I spent roughly six to eight hours to get the Golden Axe. If I played through Fiend's Pet, I would have spent 2.5~3x the amount of time.

Regardless, the weapon is garbage.

My plan was to go for good ranks on all the levels and THEN worry about grinding but then when I saw you had to not get hit ever to keep your tribute chain going while going for those counter-kills (As well as manage a perfect run from the START OF THE LEVEL and not just at that specific poorly ranked checkpoint), I gave up.

Still, ouch man. They don't even have the decency to give us the BLASTER axe from the final level? What DOES the weapon do, then?
This. I've bought so many games from this thread that my backlog has ballooned to a ridiculous size. This thread has made me wonder if I might be a shopaholic...
Double this. Looking at my backlog right now, I bet between a quarter and half of my current games for 360 are newegg purchases, and I don't think any of them have been more than $10 a pop. For that little, if the game is a shit pile, I can probably trade it in somewhere with some other games and get close to my money back.

Does the PC Wheelman have weird DRM? If not I'd rather get that.

EDIT: Apparently it does NOT have activation and maybe not even any DRM, so that's cool. I may buy the PC one.

Just need to decide on Legendary.
I heard 50 cent was actually good. I'm waiting for my Amazon copy to arrive to see if the wife can bare through it on co-op.
Eh...it's kind of okay. Playable for a play through, but you're not missing anything. The Giantbomb guys TALKING about the game is far more enjoyable than the actual game is.

And hey, is Legendary any good? I actually thought it looked kind of fun, and did those guys do Turning Point? That was pretty solid.

50 cent is one of the few games in my collection that I actually opened and played through. I thought it was pretty good mindless fun and I don't even like 50 Cent. Although I have no idea what made me decide to play through the game when I still have Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 and Halo ODST sitting here unopened.

UM Silent hill for $10?? Wheres the link?

880161.jpg
it took you 10 seconds to help me and your sounding like a douchebag, jesus christ, be polite.
He may have come off as a little rude, but instead of wasting space you could have just gone to newegg and typed in "silent hill". Not that hard.

Anyway, i'm tempted by Dawn of Discovery for the Wii, but $15 doesn't seem to be that great of a deal. I'd suggest waiting awhile longer for that one, as it's bound to drop into the sub $10 range before long.

Just ordered 50 Cent Blood on the Sand. Not a big Fidy fan or anything but the game looks like a hilarious guilty pleasure for $10-- I've been waiting for it to drop :) Thanks OP!
50 Cent game was ehh... I didn't really get into it, about half way thru I just wanted it to end and get it over with, seemed to drag-on, kept getting to the skull or feeling like it would end and then it wouldn't. I dunno, it's a decent game but don't get your hopes up for it to be amazingly fun like I thought it'd be from peoples reviews and everything.
Yeah, I really say the Giant Bomb review/podcasts comments are 10x more fun than the actual game.
Legendary - absolutely terrible. i almost quit during the first level, I did quit during the second level. Nothing about this game is remotely good. Did I mention it's awful and has no redeeming features? You'd be better off replaying a game you hated.
It's really THAT bad? Bear in mind, I liked Turning Point, Haze, Gears of War, etc. I even tolerated 50 Cent...it's much worse than those? Bear in mind I like the idea of an FPS fighting...well, monsters and whatnot.
:wii: Dawn of Discovery is now down to $14.99

(thanks, Price Tracker)

I've really been craving a city-building game lately, so this fits the bill perfectly.
What is it, and does it control decently? Not a fan of IR control generally.
any opinions on bionic commando?
I really enjoyed it. I *think* it may be one that's very hit and miss with someone, but I say go for it for the price! But give it a few hours. I was like "meh" the first few, and then something clicked and I was having a blast.
Thinking about picking up Metal Slug Anthology :psp: for $10...
Me too. I'm not a huge shooter fan, but a bunch of them, on a portable, for $10, sounds...not terrible.

Still wish this list was kept up to date as I'm missing tons of stuff :whistle2:/
Does the PC Wheelman have weird DRM? If not I'd rather get that.

As someone who double-dipped, I can say Wheelman for the PC works mostly just fine. It's Unreal Engine, so it is optimized pretty well, but I did have reproducible issues with the city not loading on a few of the side races so you ended up plummeting into an endless void for several seconds before respawning. It was annoying as hell but never was an issue in any of the story missions, and the side mission upgrades are so incremental that they're not worth the effort beyond the first couple.

I never tried tweaking my settings or checking to see if there was a patch. I think I have heard other people having that issue, but it may just be trolls.

That said, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED Wheelman. It wasn't the best game ever but it was a lot of fun and it definitely knew how to throw some decent car-chase-style boss battles at you.

Cool! Well it doesn't really seem like my kind of game, yet I'm on a Vin Diesel kick, and the demo seemed really good for what it was. Seems like it's worth a shot.
Cool! Well it doesn't really seem like my kind of game, yet I'm on a Vin Diesel kick, and the demo seemed really good for what it was. Seems like it's worth a shot.
If you liked the demo, most of the game is the same thing, so I think you'll approve of the full product. Just note that the story takes a while to give you the cool moves you had in the demo (The precision shot and the cyclone, namely.)

I thought Legendary was a ton of fun. The last 'boss' sucks from a lack of checkpoints but the game is cool. And I really dig the theme song.

The best way to get ranks is to use the Battler's Blade on BRUTAL difficulty. You will knock out two sets of achievements with it. WARNING: The Battler's Blade may force the player to throw a controller because of cheap one hit deaths. :)

As far as A+ rankings with or without the Battler's Blade, the game is full of cheap hits and deaths, has a pretty poor camera that needs to be constantly readjusted, bad traps that seem almost unavoidable, poor hit detection that insures a player's sword swings go right through opponents, a brutal "checkpoint" system, a terrible counter-attack / Beast Rider only chain system, enemies that can still block the Battler's Blade depending on the angle of attack (the ones with shields) and no way to use the unlocked weapons during the story mode.

And no, after all that grinding, we do not get the "BLASTER axe." We get the version from the actual Death Adder Boss Fight.

The Golden Axe does the following:

1. 50% damage increase (JUNK)
2. Small amount of health recover for each hit landed on an enemy. (SOMEWHAT USEFUL -- but almost not at all on BRUTAL)
3. Level 3 spells only cost one mana potion. (IMMENSELY USEFUL)
What is it, and does it control decently? Not a fan of IR control generally.
I actually haven't played it yet; I ordered it after the price dropped, so it's on the way. It's a city-building game, like the SimCity or Settlers series. It has a MetaCritic score of 81, so reviews have been positive.
I thought Legendary was a ton of fun. The last 'boss' sucks from a lack of checkpoints but the game is cool. And I really dig the theme song.
Uh oh, now I'm back to thinking I'll give it a shot :whistle2:D

Right now I've got these in my cart:
-The Wheelman-PC
-Bully-PC
-Alien Syndrome-PSP (think I remember it was supposed to be kind of good)
-Metal Slug Anthology-PSP
-Splinter Cell Essentials-PSP-a little iffy on this one. I was so excited when it launched, but the PS2 ones have all been unplayable for me because of lack of ability to save anywhere
-Superman-Xbox 360-I liked the demo!
-Legendary-Xbox
-Klonoa-Wii-I don't know...I enjoyed the original when I rented it. Do I need to own this? If it had points/trophies I'd probably play it again :whistle2:D
-Dragon Quest Swords-Wii-kind of curious about this, although I guess it uses tilt sensor control? Oh well
-Superman-Xbox 360-I liked the demo!
I was on the fence for this because it's so cheap but has such bad reviews. I never even knew there was a demo so I just downloaded it and I didn't really like it. Thanks for saving me 6 bucks!

Klonoa is awesome from what I've heard but It's also 3 hours long. I don't know if It's Megaman 2 awesome of that proportions.

I bought Dragon Quest Wii even though It's only supposed to be 10 hours long, but I've always wanted it.

Klonoa is really good but does not have much replay value, including collecting/unlocking everything.

DQ:Swords is like an on rails shooter but you aim and slice instead of aim and shoot. I liked the game, but thought the mechanics would have been better realized in a full on first person adventure. Oh well.

I'm really not sure that I'll like Swords...but is is SOMEWHAT RPG-y?

Dang...yeah, Klonoa was fun, but I just don't know if I care about replaying it even with better graphics.

At least Namco discovered that elusive "Classic Controller" :whistle2:D

Is it a shooter, or I sort of thought it had RPG elements? If it's not even worth that little maybe I'll just skip it?

From my brief time with it on the Wii, it played out pretty much JUST like Champions of Norrath with guns instead of swords. It's an action-RPG first, shooter second.

Metal Slug 7 is great. Legend of Kage 2 isn't bad.

bardock, I only played a bit of Tokyo Beat Down but I wasn't impressed with it. Seemed a step back for beat-em-ups... back from Streets of Rage 2, even. Just not that much fun.

Alright, then I guess I'll pass. Thanks though.

Metal Slug 7 I got last week and Kage 2 I just ordered. Though I heard Valkyrie on DS isn't that great so I guess I'm good for now on the DS games.

What's interesting is that a lot of those games are ones that went on clearance ar Fry's last fall - especially the obscure stuff like Tokyo Beat Down, Puchi Puchi Virus, and Neopets Puzzle Adventure. That seems like an odd coincidence. And even VP (which I started to play and actually enjoyed - I think it is well worth the $13, anyway).
Is Trackmania worth $10 or should I hold out for $5 or less?
I got it around launch, and I really liked it. If you're a fan of the PC versions, you'll most likely be into it.
