As long as you can actually take the system on the go, I'll probably get one soon after it launches (assuming there's not going to be a shortage). I've seen a few people act as if it won't be usable unless you're near the dock, though, and I'm not sure if there's a basis for that or not. Anyway, I almost never find myself actually playing home consoles any more, so this looks to be right up my alley - at least as long as it's not going to cost something ridiculous. Of course, as soon as they announce a Fire Emblem for it, I'll have to buy it regardless. Same thing happened for me with the 3DS.

Also, I don't think it's been mentioned here, but Bethesda has said that Skyrim hasn't actually been confirmed for the Switch:

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/skyrim-not-confirmed-for-nintendo-switch-despite-a/1100-6444660/
Err, how could you take it on an airplane if it can't be away from the dock?

Have they announced the 3DS is done, or will the systems and games be sold alongside each other?
Nintendo rarely announces games more than 6-8 months out. There are currently 9 retail games scheduled for 2017. Tank Troopers (Q1), Mario Sports Superstars (Q2), The Snack World (July), Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (February), Lady Layton (TBA), Urban Trial Freestyle 2 (TBA), Dragon Quest VIII (Spring), Poochy & Yoshi's Wooly World (February), and Pikmin 3D (TBA).

There's also 7 games which are currently TBA 2016, so likely a bunch of them will move to 2017 too.

I really wanna stop buying consoles. Not sure if I will eventually get the switch or not.

I guess it'll all come down to what nostalgia inducing games pop up. Count me in if there is another luigi mansion or better yet remaster the first 2 and bundle in the 3rd

I just don't game nearly enough to justify all these expensive ass objects and their accessories anymore

I'm going to take a guess that there will be no BC with 3DS/DS/Wii U games unless they're specifically remastered for the new one screen system.
Yeah I can only see them doing things for people with Digital Purchases. So it could benefit this crowd, and if anything it will probably be a discount on the NS updated version, so owned Splatoon Digital? Here is a 25% off or something. Who knows. I do think we will know a lot more next week.

Not a fan of the name.  Nintendo Switch just doesn't sound good to me, but I guess it's not like the name really matters.  The system looks like it could be interesting but I play games only at home so the portability doesn't really interest me, other than I suppose being able to play while the TV is being used, but the Wii U did that and I rarely used off-TV play so I don't know.  I can see how this will appeal to a lot of people but I'm not sure yet, hopefully the games and actually 3rd party support make it eventually worth purchasing.

Nintendo has said that they won't reveal any more news about Switch until 2017.

However, there are rumors that it won't be region-locked.

I know this thread isn't for TCG stuff, but I needed to post this.

I'm just going to keep calling it the NX. I'm also not going to call the detachable bits "Joy Cons".

Still want one though. I almost exclusively used off-TV mode on the WiiU.

I wonder why they didn't just go with 'Joy Pad', at least in US/EU. I can't see many people outside of Japan calling them Joy Cons, it's awkward with the oes in con and controller not being pronounced the same way in English.

Nintendo seemed to be so much more aware of other regions up until recently.

Without a disc drive it was obvious WiiU physical games weren't possible... and the cart slot was questionable in size for DS/3DS. Now the real Q will be about digital purchases. IF there is a way to move licenses, that'll mean a lot to me. As is though, I will be very careful what games I actually do buy over the next few months. None for WiiU. Maybe still a few for 3DS if the prices are right.

I did too but it was evident there wouldn't be DS/3DS backwards compatibility when someone else mentioned to me that there aren't two screen on the Switch.
And they are avoiding the touchscreen question. If it does have that it will be only when used in portable mode most likely, and you can't use it in both modes at the same time.

I still feel like there should have been a bone tossed to us that stayed loyal and hopeful through the wii u debacle

I collected on the wii u like I collected on every other console. that's like serving hard time in the gaming world

I dunno what I want from them but I think I want something lol

I did too but it was evident there wouldn't be DS/3DS backwards compatibility when someone else mentioned to me that there aren't two screen on the Switch.
Why would you need 2 screens? 3DS games are 240 pixels high each. The NS screen appears to be 720p based on the screenshots shown. If that's the case, they could EASILY put both screens on the one single screen the same way the 2DS does it. Yes, the 2DS only has 1 screen... it just has some framework over it to mimic the look of the 3DS screen sizes. So displaying the games wouldn't be a question at all. If both screens were stacked with no gap they could even fit on a 480P display even if it wasn't a widescreen verison (since the 2DS top screen is only 400 pixels wide, where as 480P non widescreen is 640 wide. I'll be quite surprised if there's no touch controls.

I think what he's referring to is that the PSP Go was a handheld but you could sync a PS3 Dual Shock controller to it, then plug it into a dock and play it on the big screen. Same basic kind of concept... which is actually something I really like.

If anything this is PSP Go 4.0.

There will be a touch screen, but it's going to be similar to tablets and smartphones rather than the reactive touchscreen used in the 3DS and Wii U. That's going to throw off movement and reactions for any game that relies on the bottom screen, especially since it doesn't look like it has a stylus. You're not going to be able to play Kid Icarus Uprising on this thing.

As for the screen thing, they're not going to stack them one on top of the other like the 3DS is now. The screen is too small and there would be too much wasted space. You would have to put both screens side-by-side, which would screw up any game that relies on both screens showing one image (particular games with boss fights).

If it was possible to use the portable unit and the TV at the same time, then I could see backwards compatibility. But it's far too cumbersome to put 3DS games on one screen.

I made more themed designs that were requested. I'm so happy how much positive feedback these have gotten on reddit! Kotaku shared the designs I made yesterday, how cool is that!

If you guys have any requests, let me know.

I might make a CheapAssGamer themed design lol

So I played more of Mario Party: Star Rush. Played the Coinathlon again and finished it, it's actually not that hard once you get used to the games. Not a good place to level grind, since each match takes 3-8 minutes, but still really fun. If you can play it in multiplayer, then it's probably a blast. Nobody I know has the game. Rhythm Recital is very basic. It's like the OP-ED sections of Theatrhythm games, and there's no real point to it other than playing Nintendo music. Mario Shuffle is almost exactly like the board game Sorry, and I can see restarting it often because of how heavily it relies on dice rolls. Boo's Block Party more like a suped-up Mario Puzzle Party that was introduced a long time ago, not much depth there either. Challenge Tower is the last unlockable mode, and it's 1P-only. Kind of entertaining, but the meat of the game still lies in the first few modes. No story or anything this time, just a collection of minigames with various modes.

You could design for decalgirl.com. I've bought a bunch of skins from them over the years, and I'll likely get a skin for my Switch too.

Maybe if you can use the kickstand to stand it on its side, you could stack the screens that way?

Just another way for them to sell us over priced games we already bought multiple times for yet another generation.
That's their MO, nothing new.

I wont be surprised if it's region locked as well, "N" just doesn't get it, EVER! I've said it before, but for every two steps they take forward, they take 10 back.

Was hoping Fatal Frame would go on sale. Has it gone on sale before?
I would like to know too, if everyone could come up for air from their Switch predictions for a few seconds.

(I don't think it has, but I haven't been keeping a close eye on Nintendo sales this past year)

Maybe Frisky can chime in and say for certain. ;-)

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Fatal frame was on sale not that long ago

maybe 6 months ago or so?

I do a lot of coke and hookers though so I might be mistaken

Looking through the link on the first post, it doesn't seem like it.

Then again, it may have just errored for me since the doc does not work on mobile.

Was just at target today and they had Chibi Robo Ziplash (game only) on clearance for $8.98. As always, ymmv. Didn't bother getting it cause my backlog for 3ds is huge.

I don't see any evidence that it has ever been on sale on the eShop.
