OFFICIAL 2006 Yard Sale Thread

Awesome find on the arcade cabinet, you guys plan on turning it into a MAME machine or just freshening it up and keeping it the way it is?

(first post) OK so I just realized that evilmax lives in boston! I live in east boston and I never find any good yardsales! What towns do you go to?

Picked up an NES toaster without the powercord and the av, but came with SMB/DH, two first party controllers and the only thing that I wanted the arkanoid controller. All for $6.98 at a thriftstore, not a bad deal since I remember seeing the arkanoid controller was expensive at my local funcoland back in the day! Now all I have to do is search for the game. :)

Absolutely amazing purchase evilmax and moiety. I am completely envious that you get to play Baseball Stars 2! The first Baseball Stars on NES is one of my all-time favorite games, and I have never been able to play the second game.

Would have posted this yesterday, but the database was down. Hit 150+ sales in a large community sale and found... 3 NES games. Oh sure, I passed up a $75 N64 ("cuz that's what they sell for")and some $20 well-used Xbox games ("I can get that much from Blockbuster" ... uhhh, for Bloodwake?), but come on! 150 sales and nothing on?!

Snotknocker, EvilMax, how do you do it?!?! Horseshoes around your necks? 4-leafed clovers in your shorts? I, and I'm sure a few others, would love to know your success.

For the record, the newest additions were:

Wrath of the Black Manta - $1 C/I
Super C - $1 C/I
Super Pitfall - $1 C/I

So far this year, despite saling every weekend, I have those three games to my name and little else. As the french would say, "Boux!".

He had a weird fascination with sports games though... hell, I'd give it all away too if my game collection consisted of that one ;)
Do you ask the people running the sale if they have any vidoe game stuff? Some of my best scores came from people who overlooked putting the stuff out for sale
Oooohhh yeah. Believe me, oh master, the grasshopper has learned at your feet and the lessons of "Do you have any videogames?" and CIF have been studied.. thusfar only the former lesson has been put to successful use as CIF still has only managed to reduce prices from ludicrous to mere rediculous.

Just been in a very dry spell, and watching you cover your floors with weekly finds, while inspiring (and I don't deny you your success -- more power to you), only serves to twist the knife.

Small find but an oh so beautiful surprise inside

A NES-$5 (no controllers, though)

And when I got in the car, I opened up the NES to find SMB3!

:booty:

I had a small find today. I dropped by a thrift store I don't usually bother with and found Day of the Tentacle by Lucasarts for a $1.

I got a few games for $2 each at Goodwill today.

Wrath of the Black Manta
Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (a little label damage)
Metal Gear
Life Force

I'll be checking out a few yardsales tommorow.

I'll probably head out tomorrow for some sales. On a side note I may have or may have not missed out on a nice craigslist score. I am checking my email constantly waiting for a reply to find out if the item(s) in question is/are sold yet. Hopefully I will update soon.

Had some good finds today and yestrday--

Snes-- complete with 2 controllers-- yellowed but working well -- w/ DKC and some random common games (top gear, caesar's palace, NHL stanley cup and something else) -- $2

PSone slim -- missing A/Vs, only one controller -- $5

Playstation (not slim) -- boxed, complete with instructions and 1 controller, barely used -- w/ NFS2, Tomb Raider 1 + 3 sealed GH -- $7.50

also had the biggest letdown EVER -- got to a sale and asked the usual "any game stuff" question. the lady responds "I just sold it all not even 20 minutes ago-- we had an xbox with controllers and games and a playstation with games and some other stuff." so I asked her how much she let it all go for--

$25.

fuck.

Update: The guy just e-mailed me and I just missed it by a few hours. Some guy was asking $20.00 for an Arcade Machine with "a sega fighting game." The listing had a picture but the exact game was undeterminable. The listing is down now or else I would post the picture. I'm a little upset that I missed owning something like this, but I'll get over it. Good luck for everyone heading out tomorrow.

Complete washout for us today.

We hit 4 sales, one of which was a church sale that started at 9am. We got there at 8:45, and they made us wait outside in the rain until 9 on the button. Real nice.

Was some big sales today, but I slept in again... yard sales start too damn early for my blood.

Everyone that finds stuff under Craigslist, what sections are you looking under? I look under Electronics, and just see people selling Xbox's / PS2's with shitty games for ridiculous amounts, and the occasional 360 / PSP sale.

Some decent scores today. Hit about 25 sales or so. At my second sale I found:
Super Mario RPG
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, & 3 with instruction books
Super Mario Kart
They wanted $25, I CIF'ed a $20 and they took it.

Later in the day I found:
Silent Hill (PS1) disc only $1.50
Dragon Warrior VII (PS1) Complete $0.50

All in all a pretty good day. Now I have to hit up a few pawn shops to complete the day.

just got back--

total bust for the first 2 hours. I hauled ass all over town and came up completely empty.

THEN-- it happened.

on my way into the subdivision where my house is, I noticed a sale, which I had passed on my way out. I stopped by and it looked like another bust at first-- then I noticed a black Gamecube on the table :)

It has all the hook ups but no controllers. I went up to make an offer and the Dad told me that the kids said it was broken and that it doesn't have any controllers because they use them with their new gamecube.

I told him I'd take it and try and have it fixed.

for $5

well, I just brought it home and air-dusted the hell out of it. Popped in Ikaruga and it loaded right up with no problems :D I have to go get a wavebird now and see if it works...I hope it's not a controller port that's busted.

The ironic part was that I just backed out of a gamecube offer here on CAG yesterday because I was about to impulse buy it...

Well I went out for a couple hours today, probably hit about 20 sales. Didn't find much. Got 2 things.

Pulp Fiction VHS for 50 cents. It's the only Tarantino movie I don't own, and I couldn't pass it up for that much.

Then I saw a Playstation at another sale and asked if they had any games. They said no, and that the playstation didn't come with any hookups or controllers. I asked them how much and they said I could just have it. Well I brought it back home and it works fine, so that was a nice find.

I also went to Gamecrazy and got Shining Force:Sword of Hayja for the Game Gear for $1. The worker said some guy came in and traded in a bunch of good stuff about a week ago and that was one of them.

So, it wasn't the most productive morning, but paying $1 for one of the most sought after Game Gear games and getting a working playstation for free isn't too bad. I think I'll hit up some pawn shops later today since I am bored as hell. I'll post if I find anything. (Don't hold your breath)

I went to 5 sales today. Only one had any games. Just some generic PS2 stuff like Conflict Desert Storm, and a Lord of the Rings game for for $4 each. I passed. Oh well.

Zelda: Collector's Edition x2 $5 ea
Illusion of Gaia $4
Sonic Mega Collection (Xbox) $2 CIF
Hey You, Pikachu $0.50
Tetris Plus PSX (disc only) $0.25

Sonic Mega Collection came from a sale early in the day. Wanted $3, CIF'ed $2. Pikachu was mixed in a bin of kids' toys. I asked about games, and she said there was "one" in a bin... actually 3, but the other two were crap sports titles. Didn't really want it, but hey, it was cheap.

The other four gems came from a pawn shop on the other side of town that I didn't even know existed. Nearly half the store was games... excellent selection. Their consoles were comparable to eBay ($50 for an SNES) but their games were pretty haphazard. One of the Zelda discs was marked $4.99, the other $8.99. I asked why there were two different prices, and so the guy gave them to me for $4.99 ea. Cha-ching! Gaia and Tetris also came from there, very nice prices.

I went out early for the first time and found a few good deals (to me anyways)

Pokemon Coloseum $15
GC carry case-free
I went down some off streets and found this sale. I saw that for $15 and the case for $2 and I tried to CIF her $10 but it wasnt hers so she yelled in side to someone if they would take $10 but refused. Its missing the book but I said fuck it and bought it because I really wanted this.

Next sale I found
Shellshock nam 67 (PC) for $1.50
Twin Eagle for NES $1
Taz escape from mars and sonic spinball for the Gen. $1 each
Atari plug n play controller $1
Handy boy for the brick GB $1
and finally Crimson Skies for $5

They all had goodwill stickers on them so I guess she just bought them from there and reselling for some odd reason.
Not to bad a finds, I just missed out on some other GC games like mario party by a few minutes.

Extra note, I might have snagged some free game stuff from graigs list. I'll update later if I get the goods :)

I finally became inspired enough to wake up early and hit about 25 sales...but no luck today. Only saw a few videogame items, and all overpriced. Picked up a few good books and called it a day.

I did find something interesting at one of the sales, it was an original super mario brothers arcade, but a little banged up asking 75. Might have been able to get it for cheaper, but didn't bother. Kinda cool if I had the room, but I just wouldn't have a place to put it. Does anyone know how much these arcade systems usually sell for?

Well I got back from the pawn shops a little while ago and actually did find some stuff.

I got a complete copy of Fatal Frame for Xbox for $7.

A copy of Virtua Fighter 4:Evolution for $5 at Goodwill, it's complete. This isn't that great a deal, but I've been meaning to replace it since my copy was stolen and this was the cheapest I'm gonna see it for a while I'm sure.

A complete copy of The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 for $9. This thing had been sitting at this pawn shop for over a year, and everytime I'd go in there I would offer $10 for it. It was marked at $18, so I was surprised they never would, but today I found the right person working and she let me have it for $9.

And a greatest hits copy of Final Fantasy VII for $1 at a pawn shop. The kicker? it's missing the instruction manual and disc 1. I was so excited when I saw it because they only wanted $2 to begin with, but when I realized it was missing disc 1, they said I could have it for a buck. It's up for trade by the way, so if you happen to be looking for these two discs send me an offer. I'm open to any offer.

^ I bought Resident Evil 2 non greatest hit, but was missing the Claire disc at a thrift store for $3.00. Recently, I found War of the Gems for $2.98 cart-only for SNES, but haven't tried it out yet.

Unexpected purchases!

We got the Intellivision at a sale down the street (running from 1-3pm, yeesh). The wife was exclaiming how she's never even seen it, and he hasn't touched it since 198x, and has been packed up in a box. Offered $3, he countered with $10. Tried to reason with him that it might not work, and we have to actually get it set up to a TV. "It works." So we tried $3 again, he came back with $5. We used the "how about we meet in the middle" line for $4. He wouldn't take less than $5. So we accepted. We didn't have this model yet, so it was worth the buy.

The NES stuff was from a woman who we exchanged numbers with. It was the first time we actually got called back. They belonged to her son, who wanted 50 bucks. We were able to talk him down to $10. They said there were 21 games, when we got them we counted 22, and when we opened the NES there was another game, for a total of 23. Even though the games are pretty common, we surprisingly didn't have most of them.

Pretty good outing today, hit up maybe 20-30 sales, then it started raining.

First hit was a condo sale, found an N64 but had only sports games, started chatting with the owner of the sale, had them bring out their old Nintendo games, picked up:
Mike Tyson's punch out
Super Mario Bros. 3
Quattro Sports 4in1 by Camerica
Paid: 3 Dollars

Next I saw a street sale, saw a box with a saturn in it marked 10 dollars for the system + 1 dollar per game. I offered the guys running the sale 10 bucks for the box, they took it, they said it worked perfectly, but I'm unable to test it without the A/V cable.
Saturn MK-80000
2 Offical Arcade Sticks
2 Official, 1 3rd Party Controller
Sega Rally Championship
Virtual Open Tennis
Daytona USA
Andretti Racing
8 Random Sports Titles
Paid: 10 dollars

Last sale I hit had a bunch of car audio stuff, asked if they had and video games, they pointed me to a bag of genesis stuff marked 5.50, which I thought meant 5.50 for the system + 0.50 cents per game in the bag, so I offered her 6 bucks, and she said oh the whole thing is 5.50 but I'll take 6. I gave her 5 and took it all. Included was:
Genesis 2 with all hookups and manual
The Great Waldo Search
Pebble Beach Golf Links
Fifa International Soccer
NHL '93
NBA Jam
Beauty and the Beast Roar of the Beast
Streets of Rage 2
The Lion King
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
NCAA Football
Paid: 5 dollars

At the thrift stores I bought:
Dig Dug (atari 2600)
Eternal Champions (Complete)
Paid 3 dollars

Half price sale at a thrift store I usually go to warranted these purchases.

So not bad overall, the saturn score is what I'm most happy about.

Time Crisis boxed with Guncon for PSX
Asking $2, Paid = $1

I hit up two flea markets today. One guy had dozens of NES games, but he wanted $4 each for them, which was a bit more than I wanted to pay. I suppose I could have bartered for them, but he didn't have any titles that were that good. Also saw lots of horrid sports titles for Genesis, SNES, N64, PSX.

I saw my first Sega Saturn today. It was $25 with three games: Virtua Fighter, Sonic, and something with a strange name. I passed on that. The same seller also had Bushido Blade for PSX (a fine game that I just played a week ago) for $5, passed on that as well. (Would have picked it up if I didnt already have it.)

The Time Crisis came from a sale that two young ladies were having out of the back of their pickup truck. Everything was obviously "priced to go," unlike a lot of weekly flea marketers, who have the mindset that if it doesn't sell this week, it will sell sometime. The box was stickered $2. I almost didn't pick it up... I walked back to their truck twice before I finally made a CIF offer of $1, which they somewhat begrudgingly took.

Anyone have an idea of how much it's worth? I can't find any boxed versions on eBay w/ the Guncon that ended recently. The outer slip is pretty beat up, but everything inside is pristine. Judging from the other boxes that have sold on eBay, I think i got a pretty darn good deal.

I thought about passing this sale by cause all I saw was baby clothes and chritmas stuff, but I know better so I stopped without much hope of finding anything. I greeted the lady's with some friendly chatter. i looked around and then asked the question "any video games?" Both of them responded with their eyes popping out and the one lady said there's some in the garage i'll get them. She comes out with a box and I see the atari, N64, genny and I start sifting thru the box looking totally uninterested (I'm working my magic here) I say to the one lady (cause the other lady went in the house) - Wow! does anybody even play this stuff anymore it's so old. She's like i don't know it's been laying around here forever - I just want to get rid of it . just then the other lady comes out with a tub and say's i found some more. Still looking uninterested i say ok let me see what you got there. The tub had the TG and games and tons of wires so I slowly look thru everything and then ask the lady "how much for all this junk - maybe i can get my kid to play some of this cause I'm seriously getting tired of spending $60 on those X-box games" she chuckles and says how about $30. I counter with I'll give you $20, which she accepts. Finally a TG system.

Third sale

1 - nes system complete w/2 controllers - no gun

This was on the table no price on it. So i ask how much and the lady says $2. I reply with "Any games and she says they are keeping the games cause they have another nintendo system that they play. This prompts me to ask "does this work" She replies with "well sometimes you have to blow on the games to get them to work" I CIF her a $1 which she accepts.

Not a bad haul for $22. Now i just need to find a copy of splatterhouse for the TG - i loved that game

Im pretty sure the gun alone sells for around $20 on ebay....so I'm not sure how much a complete one with box and everything would sell for. But I would assume a lot. Those guncon controllers are pretty hard to find now anyways. Btw if you are going to keep it, do yourself a favor and find all the point blank games.
