Asked about games at this sale and I missed out by 10 minutes on what was mentioned as a huge bin of older games with Atari/Nintendo stuff. The lady mentioned a "Super Nintendo" they still had inside that wasen't out for sale and showed me this N64 stuff then the Playstation games. I offered $20 which was countered with $30 and we agreed to meet in the middle.

Got out the door late, probably about 9:40. I went to 20 sales today around 4 areas.

One sale a younger guy mentioned a NES with about 60 games that he couldn't find and I'm not even really sure if he would have been interested in selling them and an older guy by him said he sold an Intellivision with games at the last sale they had for a buck and a half lol I'm thinking this might have been a long time ago as people now adays could price a crappy VCR for more then that at a yardsale if they just wanted to get rid of it. The last sale I went to as I walked away after asking about video games I over heard the guy say he had a bunch last yardsale but thinks he threw them away as if they didn't sell at the sale and went in the garbage afterwards, it's too bad he didn't at least donate them even if they were say sports games on the PS1/2.

One sale I went to was setting up across the street from a sale on my list. I figured they were setting up late but they told me they were having their sale tomarrow but I'm sure they were figuring out that it's a bad idea to set up like that a day early with an active yardsale right across the street.

One sale I was at today mentioned selling an old Nintendo and the "tapes" for $50 back in June when I asked about video games. This has me starting to thing that maybe even some of the common folk around here are starting to get more retro game crazy as it seems like just 2-3 years ago I would sometimes see this stuff sitting around at a yardsale even late in the day if it wasen't cheap enough, for example an NES with 5-10 games could sit around if it was marked $20 or more and this year I've heard about a few older NES systems with games that I missed at about $50 (hell I even paid $50 eariler this year for an NES with about 25 games when haggling on the price seemed to be completely out of the question).

Only expensive video game thing I remember seeing today was a fat PS2 with 2 games for $50. I did have 2-3 sales mention selling games already but the only one that went on to explain anything older was at the house I bought the N64 & PSX stuff at. The lady said that it was 2600/7800 & Nintendo so that gave me a vague idea of what it was or what part of it was. Sounded like it was a decent amount of games (maybe even 50-100) and as I was BSing while looking over what I ended up buying she mentioned that they sold it for $75 so it probably wasen't that super insane of a good deal unless it had some rarer games or some good stuff complete. I can't help but wonder what it was exactly and that I could have gotten to it before the other buyer if I didn't get out the door really late today.

While I was looking over what I got the lady mentioned Star Ocean being worth some money and said that they sold some of the older Final Fantasy games for $300 total online recently. I was thinking she may want a lot of money for the games after she mentioned that but still ended up doing really well.

^Damn, nice finds!

I just finished my list of addresses for tomorrow and for some reason it is the biggest one I've had all year. As for Thursday sales, nobody does that in this area at all, and even Friday sales are pretty much a waste of time.

I got some nice stuff.

First sale:
Tex Murphy Overseer DVD version
Star Trek Klingon Honor Guard

$1 each.

Second sale:

Black Nintendo 64, power/av cables, NES RF Switch, and 4 cart-only games:

Goldeneye
Blitz 2000
WCW nWo Revenge
California Speed

Xbox, 3 controllers (2 3rd party), power/av cables, HD converter, and these games:

Top Spin
Indiana Jones Emporer's Tomb (no manual)
Sega GT 2002/JSRF combo
Sneakers (no manual)

Wanted $15 per box, I offered $20 CIF, I got it all for $25.

Nothing at the next 2 sales, then:

16938-127768-canjpg-620x.jpg

An awesome Punch-Out trash can! This one isn't mine, mine's dirtiier and more bent-up, but I'll post a picture of mine if anyone wants me to.

Next sale:

Broken GameStop Xbox controller for $1, the guy didn't tell me it was broken, and I got it down from $2. Should I return it? It's only $1, but it's not fair that he didn't say it was broken.

Hit about 10 - 15 sales today. Mostly no video games :(. I did get a car DVD player (with one screen that goes on the back of the seat) for $10. I got Kingdom Hearts (PS2) for 5 bucks, haggled from 10. I couldn't seem to convince her that her Xbox and PS2 games were last generation. And I got 3 DS games (Super Mario DS, Asphalt Urban GT, Metroid Prime Hunters First Hunt) for $11 total. Also picked up a few Spanish teaching books for cheap, and a book cover I needed... the 2nd sale I went to I asked about games, the lady said they weren't done unpacking, so maybe. I stopped back when I was done with all the other sales on the list and there's now another woman there. The first lady asks the new lady if she has any video games and that lady says she had a lot of Playstation games and stuff but they all sold. She said she can get me more, so we exchanged numbers and I am going to go pick up or see what they've got next weekend. They're only about 5 minutes away from my house anyway.

Most video games I found today were way overpriced. $50 for a Saturn and 5 sports games! Xbox for $75!

One thing I found was a nearly complete Fireball Island, only missing the gemstone thing. $2. Guy claimed he had the gemstone earlier but must have lost it setting up.

Just got back from a few. I didn't see any games at all, most of it was old people stuff.

I did snag two MST3K videos (The Movie and the episode "Mitchell", which was the final Joel ep) for .50 each.

Edit: Forgot, I did see one game... NFL Game Day '99 for the PS for $1 with no instruction manual or cover. Obviously passed.

Another decent week.

2 Genesis controllers, Genesis Game Genie, and Alien Syndrome (NES) - $2

NES System w/ all hookups, 2 controllers, and a grey Zapper, plus games (all cart only):
Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt (x2), Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt + World Class Track Meet, Golf, Tetris - $10 for all

Paid the IAP, but how many copies of Super Mario Bros. does a person need?!

:360: - Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2, Conflict: Denied Ops ($5 each)
:xbox: - Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge ($5)

Maybe a bit much for Crimson Skies, but I've heard some good things from people on this forum so what the hey. I got a copy of BFME2 earlier this year but it was scratched as hell.

Books (25 cents each) :
Starfox Adventures strategy guide (Brady Games)
Pokemon Gold and Silver Official Pocket Guide (again, Brady Games)
Game Over: The Maturing of Mario - Kind of a neat find. This is the final edition of the book, published in '99. Just check out the amazon page to learn more.

I unfortunately didn't get anything and the only sale that had anything good today was extremely overpriced, they wanted 7$ for very mediocre PS1 games. I usually pay 1$ or sometimes less for them.

Got decently lucky today. Listed out 4 sales, ended up hitting 13. Got a bunch of good finds, but I'll just post the gaming finds. And no pictures. Unless something's intriguing.

Pokemon Master Trainer board game - $.50 (we struck up a conversation about how popular it used to be and she threw in Mastermind, one of my favorite board games of all time, for free)

Wasn't doing too well on games until I hit a sale and saw a Starfox 64 box. "Sweet!" I thought, until I flipped it over and it was the VHS. It was marked $.50, so I got even more excited. So I asked her if she had any other gaming stuff, and she looked surprised and went inside. She brought out three loose Lara Croft figure sets(but complete with backdrops and props) and a Yoshi's Island preview VHS. That was all she had, she said, so she said another $.50 for Yoshi's Island and $1 each for the Lara figures.

Non-VG finds:
Lois & Clark Season 1: $1
That 70s Show Season 1: $1
Twister board game - $2

First two were IAP, the rest of the PC games came up to $1.75 but took a buck for them.

Genesis Plug & Play

Model 1 Genesis, RF Adaptor, 3 Button 1st Party & 3 Button 3rd Party Controllers & Sonic 2 Cart

Super Nintendo With RF Adaptor, Donkey Kong Country, Judge Dredd, Street Fighter II Turbo & Total Carnage

Nintendo 64 With Gray & Blue 1st Party Controllers, Power Adaptor, Madcatz Multi System RF Adaptor & Super Mario 64

$13

This house had some PSP & PS2 games out with some decent ones (Resident Evil 4 & Okami) but most of them were marked $10. Asked about older games and all this was brought out. Offered $10 which was surprisingly low to the desicion maker on the price but they did counter with $15 and ended up agreeing close to the middle at $13 with me pointing out some missing stuff.

Got out the door at about 8:40 today and was out for close to 4 hours total and got to about 36 sales in 5 different areas with 3-4 of them being sales I've been to before.

I only seem to recall maybe one sale mentioning video games that I missed with no details of what it was.

Nothing super insanely overpriced for video games today but I did see a few things that were about what they would sell for online. Xbox with about 5-10 games wanted $75 but mentioned right off the bat that $50 would do when I asked about it. Dreamcast (with a piece of paper taped to it that said Playstation :D) with 3 crap games $20, and one of the last sales I was at near my house had a Dreamcast with about a dozen games marked $50. I was mildly interested in afew of the games I didn't have (Alone In The Dark 4, Ecco The Dolphin & Sonic Shuffle) but didn't feel like even trying to see if they would part them out/haggle for them at this point in the day and since I have so many other games I would be better off getting around to playing before them.

One Estate sale I was at was probably the fanciest Estate sale I've ever been to. They had a page at the entrance with what was in each room and a lady at the door greeting people. I asked about video games and the owner of the place told me nothing old but some newer Game Boy thing with Tennis that wasen't out but was found in the garage recently. I looked around seeing pricey "antique" type smaller things in a glass case with prices like $35 and one fairly large art like item even marked $850 and just walked out after wasting 5 to 10 minutes looking around. The guy seemed to forget about me as he was pretty busy and I'm sure his idea of cheap probably wasen't going to be my idea of cheap if it was anything decent (I was thinking maybe it'll be a Virtual Boy & Mario's Tennis if I was really lucky.

I didn't really find any game stuff today, but I did get some good stuff.

Sony STR-DG510 AV Receiver - $20

I'm not sure if I could have gotten it for less, but I should have tried since there weren't any prices. It's a entry level receiver, but it has HDMI and component inputs. Most of the ones I see around are quite old. This will go well with some small sony cube speakers I got for around a $1 a couple years ago. I've been wanting a receiver for a while to test those speakers.

Samsung SIR-T351 HD Tuner - $5

I mainly got this since it looked interesting and I thought I could sell it. It looks like it only handles OTA HD channels and unencrypted digital cable channels. I was kind of hoping it could handle regular, non HD cable as well.

Two star wars hard covers - $1
Batman Begins soundtrack - $2
labtec computer microphone - $0.25

Thanks, I never knew to ask about older gaming systems because when I see any sort of video games out I assume that's all the video games they want to sell - because it means they already knew that video games are yard sale material. Maybe I'll try that next weekend!

10ff_35.JPG

The Yoshi's Island preview VHS I grabbed. This one isn't mine. Can anybody tell me anything about this bad boy? There's only one listing on eBay at $80 BIN, and zero completed listings. Anybody know how much I could get for it and where the best outlet to sell it is?

Damn . . . nice finds. I know this kind of stuff is lurking out there but I'm so constrained these days. Family and our new puppy have put a clamp on me :)

Yesterday I had 2 hours and a fucked it up a little by going to a community center where anyone can setup for a $20 (kinda like a flea market). They do it once a month and I had some nice scores in July (bought some great DVDs and a N gamewatch toy) but didn't go in August. This time nada. The to and fro trip takes 40 min. and I didn't encounter sales on the way.

The other hour was poor as well . . . I swear that the 10-noon period is where I find my major scores and I didn't get to do those.

I was pleasantly surprised that a 1998 textbook that I bought on a whim (for .25) turned out to be worth something like $70. That made the morning a success despite the lack of fun finds. I did get 2 PC games (Zoo Tycoon 2 and RC Tycoon 3 platinum for $3.

This morning my Ace Combat flightstick (see post 1598) sold on Amazon for $120 :whistle2:0 (I forgot I listed it) . . . the address is an APO which worries me (will it get there--what about a return) . . . oh well--I'll ship it and cross my fingers.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6215001&postcount=1598

Oh, I picked up a SONY dual cassette component (for a stereo stack system) for 0.50! I never bought one when they were $100, but i will take one for fifty cents.

Today I wandered around town and only saw 2 signs for sales (my town is really big on Saturday sales, not so much Sunday and Friday.) I went to both. The first one it turned out to be a friend of mine's sale, so I quickly left to avoid the awkwardness. The second wasn't looking promising, but I asked the kid running it if he had any video games he was selling and he ran inside and brought out 2 Gamecube games.

Kirby's Air Ride (Complete, few small scratches on disk)
Paper Mario (no manual, few small scratches on disk)

TOTAL: $5.00

I asked how much and he said $10 each, I countered with $5 total which he immediately took. Probably could have gone lower but he was just a little kid, so I don't mind overpaying. Looked it up and I could probably get around $40 for the both of them. They also just look fun to play.

Hit a few sales today, but only one with video games.

Picked up:

Nintendogs: Lab & Friends (DS)
Super Mario World 2 (GBA)
Donkey Kong Country 2 (GBA)

Total: $5

I think I got a great deal and I didn't even have to haggle. It was a little girl selling them and she named the price, so I wasn't going to try and lower the price.

Hit a few more sales today...nothing like the scores i got yesterday, but still decent-

Yoshi's island DS
Zelda Minish cap GBA

Both cart only, $5 for both

PS1 - all CIB

Quake 2
Twisted metal small brawl
....and Mega Man Legends 2..yay

$3 for all 3

I got 2 things today:

Beyblade 5 in 1 arcade challenge TV game. These retailed for $50-60 and I got one for a dollar. Not a bad buy there, and the game is pretty fun to play.

Mario Kart double dash for the gamecube (complete) - 50 cents, girl who was selling it said it didn't work. I really, really lowballed on the price for this one, but she said it didn't work and took my 50 cents.

I haven't actually tried it yet. I assume this could be repaired with some sort of disc refurbishing machine if necessary.

finds092009.jpg

Interesting weekend:

Big Trouble in Little China special edition - $2
Tom and Jerry (nes) - $1
TMNT Tournament Fighters - $2

Mint in the box & plastic SNES model 2 - $40 (awesome condition, looks like it was never played)

Dreamcast w/hookups, 2 controllers and NBA 2K1
3DO FZ-1 w/ 2 controllers (haven't checked the system for a game)
PS1 Blue Debug Unit w/ hookups and controller (Awesome! My 2nd one!)

$25 for the 3 systems

Sweet finds for my first weekend back after taking a 2 week hiatus from game hunting.

Here's a pic of my main finds this weekend. My parents got back from vacation, so now I can take some pictures again. That receiver is looking like a good deal. It goes for $200 new and I got it for $20. The bad thing is my 26" Samsung LCD TV died this week, so there isn't much point in me putting in the receiver. I hope it's still under warranty.

Nice finds Kuros. A haul like that is better than I what I usually find all summer.

I've got this, had it since I was a kid. I have no idea where it comes from, but it does have separate arms and legs that make it a little more than a foot tall. Used to love this thing.

Awwwww cash in face!!!! I never thought about that. Thanks guys, that was bugging me. I wanted to figure it out myself, but I had run out of ideas, thanks a lot

I still have the donkey kong one, it was mailed out to nintendo power users in a huge promo pack for DKC's launch. It also had a 'slip up' showing footage of the ultra 64 games

Ha, I bet it was the one I couldn't make it to. Figures. He never sent a list, by the way. You should be glad I can't drive :). Congrads though - especially on Snow Brothers. Could make back $20 easily by selling that game alone. That's what I call a good haul!

Nope was a different one, I got a short list of some of the games that guy had and it wasn't worth the 40 minute drive for me. The only thing tempting was the boxed Turbografx for $25

My favorite sale from last week.

A woman who lives nearby was having her second sale (the first was in July). As I walked up, I remembered she had a Sega Saturn. Sure enough there is the Saturn in a brown box with hookups (not well cared for--looking like it has been sitting in the garage all summer) and about 6 games . . . all crap (the best looking one was Myst).

The box says in marker . . . $75.

So I say would you take "$15 for the game system." She replies "no, it works and comes with all the games. And they sell for alot on ebay." I said how about $20. Alas, no dice.

I wonder if she will have it out next year.

Nice little find this week:

SNES with 2 controllers and all cables
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Lion King (WTF?)

Anyway... $2.

:)

Combined with 4 Gobot Renegade Power Suits into one big Robot. It's a Tonka product!

^Seconded. I bought a SNES with Lion King and all the controllers for $1 in summer, sounds like you got exactly what I got plus three kickass games for an extra $1. Nice.

Last week I stopped at a yard sale that advertised 'game systems' and found 2 PS1s with a pile of games. I picked out FFVII, spyro (for nostalgia), trap gunner, and 2 others, intending to try to get them for $5. I asked her what she wanted for them, and she said I could have both systems and all of the games for $5.

I walked away very happy. The other games included MediEvil, Bushido Blade 2, and a few other pretty decent ones.

The season is pretty much done here in Wisconsin. I hit about 15 sales and they mostly sucked.

Today was a total disaster for me. Last week I bought a ton of books to sell online at a great booksale. This week I drove almost 2 hours and went to a very crappy booksale that was crowded with booksellers (three times the sellers compared to last week fighting over a fraction of the books) . . . I bought almost zip and deeply regret blowing a day :whistle2:(

On the positive side I bought a nice Saturn system with some games for $16 at a sale far from home.

Community sale today, late start for me, went to the farthest point of the neighborhood and worked my way back to the entrance ...
