FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

You don't need to cancel to change it. . .
do they take holywood video cases with barcode?
I asked earlier but no one responded. I'm about to mail an order out tomorrow. One thing i am doing is sending nothing but games with HWV cover art. Just trying to make it look normal LOL. One 360 game with original art and a second 360 game with HWV art in the same order would look a bit more suspicious
That sounds good. It's a Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum, does have barcode. Anyone else pick that up to flip? Anyone pick up a Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels? That's the one without a Wii indented above its disc.
semi-offtopic

I'm doing great with these flips and promos. I'm planning my amazon credit and have the following on my hit-list...

1) Epson All-in-One Printer
2) Panasonic ZR1 Camera
3) Zune HD (added since im doing great on flips :D)
4) 50% code on Xbox 120gb HD
5) 50% code on ???
6) $30 code on ???
7) $30 code on ???
8) $30 code on ???
9) $30 code on ???

The only thing I bought so far is the Printer. The ZR1 camera should come out in September and who knows about the Zune HD. I will sell my ipod to offset the cost of the Zune ;) Anyway, after this latest flip I will have $540 in credit, two 50% coupons, and four $30 coupons. I gotta figure out what to use them on
You don't need to cancel to change it. . .
I've been trying to find it.

I ordered at 8 and my order still hasn't been charged. I've ordered at midnight before and have been charged shortly after. I forgot that since I moved I didn't change my address with my bank, and I put my new address down as my billing address.

How can I change that without canceling my order?

I know you can edit your order quantities, but is it possible to cancel an entire submitted order without penalty?
I know you can edit your order quantities, but is it possible to cancel an entire submitted order without penalty?
yeah i have like 4 or 5 canceled trade-ins. It just sits there in your history. It only costs amazon money when the shipping label is scanned at the PO.
I know you can edit your order quantities, but is it possible to cancel an entire submitted order without penalty?
Yes, you can cancel. Though I've only canceled orders before the 7 day period, though I don't see what penalties they can give you, if anything, you screw yourself

I responded, but all I knew was that I'm pretty sure I saw one guy mention that he did get HWV cover art accepted. But I think I've heard of others who did not get it accepted. So it's risky.

What do you mean, never noticed what? Hmm why is Mario Galaxy $40 and $25... it looks like an internet only deal yet its oos. I don't think that's a good flip because we can't use 25% off online. Did you mean Star Wars? I submitted when it was 16.50 instead of 10.

I read the FAQ and it said you can change your order if its not in the shipping phase. I ordered a service plan and they already used some of my gift card for that. My Ion hasn't shipped so I should be able to change it, but it's not letting me.

Sorry if this is dumb but I need to be sure. Can you definitely get multiple $30 codes on the same account and address? It says, -Limit one discount per household, per qualifying order. What does that mean?

J7 - It says that but others have gotten multiples. Now I'm a bit nervous because I had my second trade accepted early Tuesday AM and still no code - the usual time would be late tonight/early tomorrow, though, so I'm not that worried, yet...
Do any Wii games normally have different cases that don't say "Wii" indented right above where the disc goes?
A great deal of Wii games don't have "Wii" imprinted inside the case - that shouldn't be a problem. I got a few of the Ligthsaber Duel games and none of them are like that.

Yeah, I think that is left over from the special web-only pricing. Interestingly enough, that web-only lower price also had a guarantee that it came with original case and instructions! So when it was active (in stock) it was kind of funny because you could buy the guaranteed complete version for $24.99 or spend $39.99 for the one that wasn't guaranteed to be complete ;). In any case, it is irrelvant for Amazon purposes because you can't get the coupon stacked anyway.

So I hit up a few GS stores this evening and had some luck, though a great deal of the filler games, especially for DS, did not have cover art. Damn, that's annoying. At some GS stores, 75% of the DS games are cart-only :bomb:. I had thrown several things into a few trades hoping to get some cheaper items to add to Endless Ocean + Star Wars + Saints Row 2 since those 3 together is just under $60. I basically didn't find anything like that, though I got plenty of Star Wars and a few of those Jillian Fitness games as filler.

As expected, Endless Ocean was somewhat hard to find (it was never in stock at most stores before the Amazon deal). I thought I struck gold when I found TWO at one store - both complete. But the GS clerk told me he couldn't sell 2 to the same customer. WTF!? He said his DM writes people up for that and sends secret shoppers to make sure they don't sell more than 1 copy. I've never heard of any sort of limit like that at GS, especially on just regular games (as opposed to special sale items). I just bought three Prince of Persia from one store the other day (and returned two of them today). He said he could hold it for me and I could get it the next day. That's great except this store is 30+ miles away and I won't be up there tomorrow. Then he said if I had anyone else with me I could buy it for them. Well, now, that's pretty fucking stupid. To speed things up, though, I didn't bring any of my kids tonight. Oh well... Some guys offered to buy it for me and I guess I should have taken them up on it but I was thinking they'd want cash. Later I realized I probably could have given them my Edge card to buy it . But I didn't want to hassle with that. I did, however, give them an extra 25% off coupon I had with me so they could use it on the 3 or 4 games they were buying. I figured this store should get as little money as possible. This same clerk, by the way, was the first ever to try to sneak a refurb fee in on me last week, so he's kind of a douche - in fact, the guys that offered to help me called him that exact name ;). He's the consummate GS preorder and Egde card pusher - he is relentless to the point where when he was helping me last week he kept interrupting my transaction to talk up several other customers about preorders and such - it was highly annoying. Still, if he wants to deny a sale, so be it.
I sent mine out on the 27th as well. I live in NorCal though so I'm pretty much as far as you can get using media mail.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe something about the actual usage of the coupon codes being, "-Limit one discount per household, per qualifying order". I dunno.

Just curious, do you mean none had it or all do have it? It seems like there are multiple types of Wii cases then, not surprised since they have a lot more to produce than MS or Sony. Does your Jillian have the security type of binder clip or the straight clip with no security?

None of the Lightsaber games have "Wii" cases, all of the Jillian games have the security clip dealie. I think these are all the original cases for these.

ok this is a little off topic, but anyone notice some of the weird prices amazon is selling some games for? yesterday i clicked endless ocean (since it was the trade in of the day) and the price they have it for is $85.93. and today I checked DK Jungle Climber and the price is $76.94. What?

They're reselling the trade ins as new! ;) That is weird. Look at the Phoenix Wright games prices, also a recent trade in of the day.

The amazon terms and conditions for this current coupon are completely contradictory. It says a coupon will be sent for each qualifying order. Then several lines below it says One coupon per household per order. How the fuck are you supposed to interpret that?

I never noticed the 'Wii' imprint on the case. I doubt the people taking in trades will notice. I really don't think that matters. There are so many different cases out there that games ship with.

hah. Its the seller 'Hit Gaming' messing things up. They continuously overprice their new condition games. Its so bad! This is confusing other sellers like Noram that don't know any better. I've noticed this on several older games in the past with TIVs and used prices that were a bit too high

It's not really amazon selling them: "Ships from and sold by Hitgaming Video Games."

edit: Japakneez beat me too it :)

quick question, if im just trading in 1 game can i just drop off my small package in a blue mailbox like i do for goozex or do i need to take it to an actual post office since its media mail? thanks!

Well, no worries, I just got my second $30 off code early this morning right on cue (a little less than 2 days after notice of acceptance of the games). So now I can get something cool in my Gold Box and go with it!

Todays trade-in of the day is another good flip! *If* you can find it complete!

DK Jungle Climber
$$Nintendo DS
Trade-in Value: $20.00

it's $19.99 used at gamestop, $12.99+tax after coupon and Edge.

I'm going to look for a copy or two to send in.

It is pretty hard to find. Though it's funny because this is one of the "filler" items I used yesterday at $10 TIV. I thought the $13->$10 wasn't too bad to top off a trade that was just under $60 otherwise. This keeps happening to me (I used Endless Ocean as filler previously at $13). I didn't even find any, though, at the 4 GS stores I went to. Supposedly one I'm going to tomorrow has it but chances are it is cart-only like all the other DS games I keep searching for. Seriously, about the only one I can find complete is GTA Chinatown Wars which remains a so-so choice.

can someone answer this question and add it to the FAQ?

"if you use one of an amazon coupons (in my case, the 50% off one) on a pre-order and cancel it, will you get the coupon back to use on a different order?"

i'm considering switching from the mw2 prestige edition to the tekken 6 bundle, but i'm nervous that if i cancel the order, the coupon doesn't get refunded back to my account.

A couple of my local GS's are listed as having DK Jungle Climber, though we shall see if they have case and manual. One of them I have to go back to anyway to return a non-working USB hub (used) I picked up there yesterday. I may try to pick up some more Endless Oceans today too, to add to my trade-in order from yesterday's trade-in deal, since it's a profit maker, and it's the last day for the awesome GS coupon.

My 2nd $30 coupon trade-in was accepted today. Still waiting for the first (and second, obviously) coupon.

I can't speak for the 50% coupon specifically, but every time I've canceled a pre-order with Amazon, the coupons and/or credit have been deposited back into my account and automatically applied to the next qualifying order.

As long as the expiration date has not passed (in the case of the 50% off coupon, Aug 31) and the order has not been processed, the coupon will get credited back to your account and can be used on another item.
Does anyone think its worth trading in PS3 Blue Blaze (LE) and Endless Ocean for $61 to get the $30 extra credit?
Well let's see...that's a $29 profit there...and I'm not sure if you have an ECA account, nor do I know that you even shop on Amazon.

Personally, I'd say no-brainer...

I'm going to break these out a bit more, because the volume is much higher today since they've added a bunch of games.

I sent in 5 boxes on 7/29, 3 of them have reported as received with credit applied on 8/4, and only of the 3 received qualified for the promo, which I got today 8/6. That's some of the quickest turnaround I've had. I'm really hoping they receive the other two though, because both of those were $60+ and I'd like more promo's.

That's a pretty frustrating story io about not being able to get the 2 copies of the same game.
I snagged two complete copies from one store yesterday, clerk said "You want two of these right?" "Yes please." "Ok, just checking."

Seriously, that is ridiculous. I'd just do the same as that^ guy at BBV. Making sure someone is buying/renting two of the same games on purpose but sales for my store = my job, so that other guy must be a moron.

I would like to state that I sent a massive trade to Amazon about 250.00 worth of Blu-Ray and games and they are really running me through a loop.....Its been over 7 days and they still have not got my order? I dont think so its not like im mailing out of the states...and when they do get it im sure there gonna take there good ol time checking it in then guess what another 2 days until I get my credit....

I would like to personally suggest to everyone to NEVER use this service unless you feel like waiting a month to get your payment....The wait alone makes gamestop more worth the trade in even if amazons prices are slightly better.

Media Mail, as stated by the USPS, can take up to 9 business days to arrive. Not really Amazon's fault on this one.

I'm not sure what part of the country you are in, but if you used the free media mail shipping they provide then 7+ days of travel is not unusual. From here in WA media mail can take up to two weeks to reach the other coast.

Lol, a whole week! However will you survive?! I hope it does take a month just to hear you cry more.

Hmm thing is im on the same coast as the destination!

And I sent a email to amazon who stated that it may take up to 30 days which is complete bs.

Jodou you sound mad about something? Maybe because I can afford to trade in 250 dollars worth of stuff at one time?

If my shipment was going out of the country I would understand but its not its on the same coast and should have been there by now.

Again if you want a quick trade go to gamestop some people have no problems with amazon but I for one am getting bs from them and dont plan on ever useing this service again.

I'm very jealous of your $250 trade-in. Please teach me in the ways of putting together such a monstrous trade that even Amazon is not worthy of receiving.

Its called having a job and buying things you enjoy and when u are done with them you trade them in to get more things...

Enjoy sitting at a computer and trying to talk out your ass?

You are prob some fat red haired 12 year old retard trying to save up money to get a wii and get fumeing mad to see someone actually be more wealthy then u.

Do they teach how to be an ass at your job? If you're so wealthy why bother with trade-in credit, just buy 5 copies of every game brand new

Patience is something that is learned. If I flipped out after a week on all of my trades to Amazon I would be so stressed with every trade. The fact that someone is making a big deal out of 1 week and said they sold $250 on a single transaction speaks volumes. A true CAG would have split that into 4 batches of $60+ to collect the promo's.

I shipped my package out on the 27th (from Ohio). Still says not received. I was getting a little worried until I checked out this thread and saw that it's taking a while for everyone.

Just because I have money doesent mean im gonna be dumb with it.....If im done playing a game why not trade it in?

It seems logical to me just cause I could buy games new doesent mean I have to.

Says the guy who just joined today to revel us with your tale of impatience and incompetence. Be a factor please.
