FAQs:

What if the price isn't accurate in store? Ans: Ask them to scan the title anyway and/or check the master game sales list online as my prices ARE accurate.

What if the in store game has no for sale sticker? Ans: Sorry chances are it isn't for sale, we usually leave a few for rent..but doesn't hurt to ask an employee Just in Case.

Why doesn't the online price reflect your price? Ans: Although it's one company and prices *usually* match..there are times when they don't or might be sold out. Sorry

Do games come with manuals/box? Ans: All games come with original artwork/case, but sometimes rental customers don't return manuals, so it's about 50/50.

What if I buy a game that doesn't work? Ans: All games are guaranteed to be in working condition. We clean all games before selling them. You can even replace games in the store that were purchased online! People have told me that the e-commerce site is very helpful also with returns/replacements.

What if my store is not offering the specials listed, is this YMMV? Ans: No this is not YMMV. Unless the store is down to it's last few copies of a game, it should be for sale. If they will not sell it to you for the price listed and/or you have continued problems with a store please check this link to help you out and help our company to improve. https://www.familyvideo.com/contact.php#q17

What do the numbers next to the titles mean? The numbers represent how many copies of an item a B&M store will protect for rental only. For example, if you see 4 copies on the shelf for rent and my listing has a (3) beside it, 1 should be for sale.
Listings with a (5*) means that there will be at least 5 kept for rent, but if the title is renting well the remaining copies may or may not be for sale, ask staff for assistance.

God damn... I may try to get rid of GOW3 since I won't be getting to it anytime soon and wait till it drops again. Also, I just got rid of AVP and I didn't realise that it was 20 now. I'll probably try picking it up sometime.

yah, sorry about the late update everyone, but since there wasn't anything to add I forgot to post last night....like the above post said...due to opening stores it is still a rather slow time for sales

Love my local Family Video store. This year locally within 10 minutes drive 2 Blockbusters, 2 Movie Gallery and a Hollywood Video have closed but FV still thrives. Cheap rental prices and cheap game rentals love just renting um cheap for 1 or 2 days.

Plus if you don't go for awhile they call you and give you a free rental and 1/2 price for like 2 weeks to get you coming in again. :D

Free commercial, but please feel free to send me coupons....

Oh yea and PORN!

I drive by a Family Video every day on the way to work. Might have to stop in for once and check out the selection. Wouldn't mind Dead to Rights and/or PoP for $20 if the games are in decent condition.

yah i'm sorry everyone...I made a mistake and battlefield is in fact 29.95 for both systems..I mistakenly thought it was underneath the 19.95 listing...was an odd setup...anyway it has been adjusted.

I don't know about that. I stopped into a Family Video today and grabbed two Battlefield BC 2 Limited Editions even for 360 for $19.95. They were stickered $19.95 and the rep said it was the right price. I'm happy either way.

Really?! Hmmmm...

I might stop in there some time this week then. I just went there though and picked up The Saboteur w/ intact Midnight Show dlc code and I am not too keen on driving out there again this soon.

The game is 29.95 not entirely sure how the rep said that the 19.95 price was right because both their used game sale list and their computer both come up at 29.95 and the rep would have had to override that price to sell it at 19.95

There wasn't any overriding going on that I could tell and he even mentioned how they're cheaper than GS.

Anyway, I'm going to check out 2 other Family Videos today and I'll see if the prices are the same as the one I stopped at yesterday.

Yeah, i stopped into my local FV last night to see what they had marked for sale. I was hoping for Bad Company 2 to be 19.99, but no luck. They did have copies of Dead to Rights and Prince of Persia at that price, but I couldn't bring myself to bite, as I have too big of a backlog atm (thanks, gamestop b2g1).

^^^ on the initial listing of the game being put up for sale (battlefield 2) it was a bit confusing if you made a quick glance of it...so a few of you may be able to find it for 19.95, but as it's been mentioned, don't expect it to happen as the above posters find was more a fluke than anything.

That's INSANE for Transformers. Barely a month after release date. I need to sell my copy quick! I bought it at launch and I've barely played it!

If Alan Wake makes it to $19.99 at my store, I may end up picking it back up.

So im confused the link still says that Transformers is 52.99. If I go into the store tomorrow it will be 29.99 there used??

Man, I too will go for Alan Wake if it drops to 30. I love that game and I still need to beat it on nightmare, but since I just cancelled my account at Gamefly, I'm gonna have to pick it up sooner or later.

If you pick up Alan Wake, make sure the case has the free DLC card inside, That is available to download as of 7/27. At my store the for sale copies didn't have the card inside but one of the rental copies that didn't have the for sale sign on it had it so i grabbed it when i bought the game.

Went to my local family video and picked up transformers used for 30 bucks. Thanks OP! They also had battlefield used for 30 bucks as well. This of course was on xbox.

I read the FAQ about games not listed for sale but my local store NEVER seems to put things for sale. Last time i tried for BFBC2 and PoP they wouldn't do it even though they had 10 copies of BF (8 not rented) and 5 copies of PoP (none rented). The girl said they only had one copy of each without looking at the computer.

The time before that I got Bioshock 2, L4D2, and AvP, and they had less copies and none were for sale, the guy just rang them up. Is there a rule about how many they need to keep in stock?

I'm sure they'll give me the same line if i try to go back for BFBC2 or transformers. Or maybe it just depends on the employee.

^^^ yes on most games they keep 2 or 3 left for rental...the rest should be up for sale...there are times that games may not get priced properly...i'm not sure why someone would not want to sell you something though...if nothing else ask to speak to a manager about the situation as the items are supposed to be priced at every store.

As far as the DLC goes for Alan Wake, I've gone to two different stores and none of them had them. Do people just go in there and take them or does the store take them out once they get the games in?

Does the online store usually get updated later in the day? If so I'm going to have to pray for T:WFC being there still after I get off work ^^; Getting to my nearest FV is fairly difficult..

@Dominator: Yeah, Alan Wake is going to be on the 30 list too, cheers (b'')b

I wouldn't be surprised if the employees took it out and tossed it in the trash when preparing the game for rental. The company is quite clueless when it comes to certain things. For instance, they take the television series dvds out of the boxset and toss the box, and for the display they use these horrible looking xerox copies of the cover.

^^^ sometimes customers go through to boxes and take the DLC as the company doesn't ask employees to store the extras anywhere...they claim it might be a pain to keep track of everything like that..same as used copies at gamestop..will be hit or miss. Also you are correct...some of the people who go through the games are not as interested in games as the rest of us..so may not have any clue and just toss any slips that aren't the instruction book.

The reason they use the xerox copies on those are so that when they rent out individual discs the xerox copies say (disc 1, disc 2, etc) There have been times when we haven't done that and we get comments 20+ times during the day asking if they get the "whole" boxset when they rent it as a new release....so although I hate the poor quality of thos slips..trust me..it's for necessity..we don't typically sell those so it's all the same when renting something.

Wow, I just had an odd conversation when I called my nearest Family Video. I don't usually go there, so I called wondering about T:WFC. Here's how the conversation went...

Family Video Employee: Welcome to Family Video, where it doesn't take 28 days to enjoy a new release, how can I help you?
Me: Hello, do you guys sell used video games?
FVE: Yes we do.
Me: OK, would your store happen to have an Xbox 360 version of Transformers: War for Cybertron?
FVE: Sorry, the game is still too new. It's available to rent, but stores should not be selling that game yet.
Me: ?!?!?!?! (Translation: Thank you.) *hung up*

So...would Family Video's decision to sell used game be a store-to-store decision, thus being YMMV for some of us? I just don't know.

I guess here's hoping the website updates later tonight!

^^^ You should be more direct and ask the guy whether they sell T:WFC for the Xbox, and inform him that stores do in fact sell the game if he tells you otherwise.

Yeah some stores don't sell games and some sell a lot of there inventory. I have 2 family videos about a mile apart from each other and they don't sell the same shit. Also I happen to live in Illinois and I went to the downers grove (maple st) location.

Yup, I did that. Didn't work well in the first 3 locations I've called.

I've luckily found a FV that sells the game, but I think there's only one copy left and it's a nice half-hour drive away. By the time I get there, it my be gone. But this would be my best chance to get the game for cheap for awhile, so I might as well give it a shot.

Having never ordered from Family Video before I decided last week to bite on The Saboteur for $9.99. Game came in perfect condition, even still had the download code for Midnight Show DLC! Highly recommend ordering from them for deals.

Tell them to check their most recently updated "board" as another employee (me) suggested. That is where I get my information, and I've checked many many stores...it is not YMMV..it is nationwide. They should know what it means...if you still have troubles feel free to PM me with the store location and I'll see what I can do...it's frustrating when I know the people they hire are of adequate intelligence (any of you who have taken the test feel free to chime in here), but no matter the case sometimes employees either may get lazy, or just not pay attention in certain circumstance...anyway let me know if necessary!

I maybe will stop by and check for BFBC2 again. 10 copies is too many for that game for one store to have.

I just got two copies of Transformers WFC for $29.95 each (selling one to a friend).

The first Family Video store I went to had 10 copies but none on sale, none were rented. I asked if they we selling any and they claimed it was too new to sell used copies of it yet.

I then went to a second Family Video about five miles away and they had 5 copies and 2 were on sale (That I promptly purchased). Family Video's definition of new must depend on the store, weird.

Neither store had Alan Wake for sale unfortunately. Glad I got the deal on Transformers WFC though, thanks.

I see. Do you think the employees may just let customers take the DLC?
