Most Asked Question...WHEN PRICES DROP?

All stores vary when prices will drop because it depends on how well the inventory is selling. If selling fairly well the store could possibly stay open longer, if not, the store may close down earlier preventing any further discounts from happening. From what I've noticed most price drops happen once a week (days vary) and then the last two weeks they drop much quicker...every 3 days or so. Hope this info helps!

CURRENT LIQUIDATION GAME SALE INFO

The first 800 HWV store closings have finished and all stores are beginning the process over again. You will need to check in with your area store periodically about current discounts because each store is different. Current Speculation is that all stores will be closed within 10 weeks...so by July.

I do not have a master list of prices unfortunately. Most stores have gone through and price stickered the older games. There is a possibility of the newer games being price stickered as well, but until then, you will have to inquire about the price with the employee. Most prices for the newer games in the computer range between $30-$50 and then take whatever their current discount is off that price.

Special Ordering Used or New Video Games

Beginning December 14th, ALL Hollywood Video stores will have the ability to place New & Used GAME Special Orders. Customers who cannot find games or accessories can place a Special Order and have it shipped from any Game Crazy/Game Zone store to their Hollywood Video for pick-up.

* Shipping Fee is $6.00 (Possibly per game if being shipped from different locations)
* Most Special Orders arrive within 7 days of ordering
* Outlet Stores do not participate in Special Orders, so YMMV on all stores.

Special Orders include:

Strategy Guides
New & Used Controllers
New & Used Games
New & Used cables, cords, and accessories
Toys & Figures

There is a list of product either on a waiting list or permanently out of stock; I may include this at a later point when I have more time. It's quite long.

Important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) 99% of these deals will NOT work in a Game Crazy. They have their own deals; please refer to http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234882 These deals will also more than likely NOT work at a Hollywood Video with a Game Crazy attached! However, Movie Gallery may or may not have some of these same Game deals! "Movie Gallery bought Hollywood Video", hence the reason for some of the same sales at either HWV or MG.

2) Hollywood Video employees will need to scan a coupon code in order for any game to be discounted.

3) Hollywood Video's store hours vary from location to location, especially with all the store closings. Please call.

4) If you would like to contribute to any game deals, please when posting, include game, system, price, city and state.
For example:
Dragon Quest VIII, PS2, $4.99
Tampa, FL (Temple Terrace)

5) Hollywood Video's are mostly movie rental stores (games are not as important to them to keep up on), thus, always double check on sticker prices because 50% of the time they are probably stickered wrong. ;)

6) Do not trust the store locator at HollywoodVideo.com Google it and call first. That store might already be closed!

7) Hollywood Video does not do cash back if a game is damaged or you "already own it". Used games have a 90 day guarantee. You have a few options: swap for same title, swap for a different title if they do not have it, or using the disc buffer machine to try and fix the game. Hollywood Video also does disc buffing for personal items at a $1 per disc.

8) ALL sales are FINAL during the closing sale. Usually within the first few weeks of the sale if you do purchase something that does not work they MAY swap it for you. YMMV!!!

Couldn't agree more. This is a crap job. Retail is crap for the employees and it's crap for the managers too. I don't begrudge them a $5 game or two. I have gotten 4 wii games for myself and 8 360 games for my family over the past two deals.

It's all gravy and I'm still not done playing the 4 I got.

The idea of GC managers buying it all up is not cricket though.

I just thought of a question: what about the Hollywood videos where they used to have a GameCrazy attached. Will they be partaking in this sale?

Why not just.....call them?

For many people the interwebs is the only way to do things

From previous sales, I believe HWV locations with Gamecrazies attached do NOT have the sale, likewise Gamecrazy locations do not have the sale either.

Aren't these games though the rental copies? Beaten to hell and scratched six ways to Sunday?

In my experience, during the last sale, the ones that used to have Game Crazy's do not sell games at all period... thus will not be having this sale.

YMMV on this... but I was at a HWV and was about to not buy a game because it scratched like crazy... the girl ringing me up rebuffed it for me... saved me a refurbishing fee at gamestop.

Most of the stores offer free resurfacing on the games you buy as long as you bring them in with your receipt. I just had them hit the two Xbox games I bought during the last $5 sale(Sid Meier's Pirates, D&D Heroes) and while it make the scratches much finer it didn't completely eliminate them.

That makes me think that the machine(s) at HWV/GC aren't the industrial ones, since those ones do such a good job you can't even tell they were buffed usually.

Even though short on moo-lah, I do think this could be a good opportunity to go X-Mas shopping for some of the gamers in my house. Some solid games on all consoles, and I'm really loving this thread. Thanks a lot Dawn, once again.

P.S. $4.99 for Chinatown Wars on the DS is a great deal, if you can find it. Most HWVs are slim on portable games, so just be warned.

The HWVs in this area are lucky to even have any DS or PSP games. Last sale I think Touch the Dead was the only DS game I saw, and Medal of Honor Heroes was the only PSP game. I also remember that the manager at the store that closed recently used to always brag to me when they had DS games. I was never sure why I would be impressed by that.
One question for Super_Dawn, at the end of the last sale the employees told me someone came in the day before the sale started and cleaned them out. I was in a hurry so I didn't get all the details, but would this deal be active in the system today if they scanned the barcode or would they have to override the system?
I have no clue on this. No experience with this...possibly something to do with these random "outlet" store that I have no info on or the stores that are closing. I really don't know.
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge is a PSP title so I have no idea if Pacific Rift will qualify but I guess I can find out tomorrow.
Oh..hmm..I don't own a psp or ps3 so I may sometimes get confused on titles. I do know that all the Motorstorm games qualified except the newest one. I will dbl check on titles.
I think it's pretty bogus for the internal employees to cherry pick like that
Not when I make minimum wage ... and its been 5 yrs with the company. :bomb: Plus a lot of times...employees don't even notice the sale will be going on until that day which should give you guys a heads up. I always hear how people find employees that have no idea about the sale...prime place to pick some good stuff up I'd say.
Aren't these games though the rental copies? Beaten to hell and scratched six ways to Sunday?
Actually most are in fairly good condition unless you start getting the old-gen system games. And we do buff them if need be...

I think it depends on who is doing the buffing...gotta have some experience with the $600 machine (i don't think its industrial, but fairly good) or else you'll just make it worse.

By the way....always ask if they have DS or PSP games behind the counter! At my store there are 7 DS games that do not have boxes just thrown in a case behind the counter that nobody seems to think about.
I think it depends on who is doing the buffing...gotta have some experience with the $600 machine (i don't think its industrial, but fairly good) or else you'll just make it worse.
Well, the manager who buffed the games for me(and told me when they're opening and how they're not going to honor this sale early, hopefully)proceeded to wipe them down after the buffing with one of those microfiber cloths and I think that actually scratched them back up a little bit.

But I did notice the same pattern as the Disc Doctors make, which looks like these brackets () going in one direction or the other on the discs, but it's alot less noticable than the DD ones which make the discs look worse most times.

This is quality information Dawn, thanks. Maybe I can add to my DS collection after all.

I can testify to op about Fallout 3. I just bought it awhile ago for $5.40 after tax. I purchased Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. I kept the 360 and flipped the ps3 version for $13.20 @ gc and got ms points. I was even able to get the original case, art and manual.

Well, as far as I know on the Fallout situation only the PS3 version is confirmed to be eligible. The Xbox 360 I hear has been dropped to an eligible price as well, but I do not know for sure.

P.S. If I knew this sale was going on now, I would finish up my X-Mas shopping tonight and actually have a shot at getting decent games. Last time I went to the $4.99 sale, I got:

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Ninja Gaiden II
de Blob
NHL 08

Now, I'm not saying Hell's Highway and Ninja Gaiden II aren't fun (NHL is hard to learn without a booklet!) but the point is they didn't have anything I actually went there for. AKA, Gears 2 and many others that qualified. Of course, I did miss out on a day so that may have been much of the cause.
wait so this sale started today and not tomorrow? or some stores started before they are supposed to?
it starts tomorrow, but from people make a scene and can get the deal working today. the recent talk has been employees hiding games they want or purchasing them before the store opens and customers have a chance at them.

In the time between last night and tonight, the couple of good games left at my local store (St. Petersburg) have vanished. Oh well, at least I don't have to rush to get to the store at 10am.

So there are 2 Hollywood Video stores near me, and one of them used to have a gamecrazy in it (but it closed). Not sure which would be best to hit up first tomorrow...
Anybody know if this is a "Nation Wide" deal?
Mine in Tulsa, OK had no idea, They said check friday...UGH
A little YMMV as some stores are totally moronic sales-wise, but this is a deal from the suits.
I just thought of a question: what about the Hollywood videos where they used to have a GameCrazy attached. Will they be partaking in this sale?
I called one. It's 80% off everything, new or used. Found out yesterday. I doubt anything good is left, it was a very large store too. I am only hitting two stores and thats it. I have a feeling HWV is on it's last legs and we'll soon see a massive sale as this, for new games too.
10:00AM, yep.
The ones by me are opening at 11 am tomorrow according to the manager on the phone before and the store locator on the site.
The ones by me are opening at 11 am tomorrow according to the manager on the phone before and the store locator on the site.
Most open at 10:00, I don't know what your store is about.

Well, hopefully the hours on that locator are right and the manager wasn't bsing me, since I don't want my run tomorrow to be for naught. I'm going to get there for 10 am and if they do indeed open for 11, then I'll find something to do for an hour and come back at opening then.

Sounds good. There is a chance (unless this manager is your brother...even then though) that he was just telling you that to get in on some of the games before you got there. I imagine if he is pulling a fast one he tells everyone that and then takes Red Faction for himself!

During the HWV summer sale I got No More Heroes for $5... and have yet to play it:p

I don't know what I was thinking, but instead of taking advantage of that sale I got some of the crappiest games: Alone in the Dark, Timesplitters, and Clive Barker's Jericho :wall:

Dawn, what's the stock of 360 titles looking like at your store, if you happen to remember? If you have most of the stuff you listed in the OP I might make the trip, but my car is in the shop so getting there will be a hassle, and not really worth the drive if you just have the same copies of Alone in the Dark and Beowulf you had last time.

Thanks for the update, regardless.

One of two of the stores in my area had a few new pickings since the last time I went (last week), I saw many copies of Fallout 3 marked at $29.99 (PS3 & 360). Definitely buying a copy for myself and going to flip some other games to GS for B2G1! I definitely appreciate the information super_dawn provided, without his/her help I would've never known about this extremely great deal!

LOL ... I bought the Live Arcade game disc that used to come with new 360s, thinking it was something else. I think GS gave me .65 when I traded it in to them.

These are some games i saw at GC marked 29.99 and below not on the OP list. They seem to be recent reductions so maybe they will qualify tomorrow.

Halo Wars
Bigs 2

Yea...I do not know what the deal is with some stores doing the deal early! All I can think of is that hwv has gotten worse and worse around the country. It's reallly sad to think when I first started I had a wonderful mgr and everything ran so smooth that I loved working for hwv... Now, its just a mess. I'm sure most of the "early sales" is because of employees or mgrs who just do not care because their store might be next to close.

Anyway... yea I don't like using those microfiber clothes either. We usually buy this soft white cloth which I believe is something that is supposed to come with all the "goo" for the cleaning of discs. I think most figure microfiber is fine. I usually pride myself on fixing discs nicely! ;) I think its about time for myself to re-clean some of my personal stuff again.
Most of the ones around here don't open until 11 or even noon. I think hours are pretty variable.
 ......in the op...hours are variable. I've worked at stores that have opened at 10, 11, and noon before. And, like my store, our hours vary by day!

;) well...I've had two pm's about this so you might have to fight it out. We have LOTS of ps2, xbox, cube... as for the most wanted titles... prototype (which I totally forgot to look up and see if it qualified), assassin's creed, nintendogs, ...but really thats about it. We were cleaned out during the BF sale so those that came in were trades.

I will have to dbl check on halo wars cause I do not remember this qualifing...atleast at my store. Super Paper Mario was a recent drop and was added earlier today. I'll add the rest in a bit.

I missed out on this last time, so I'm definitely going to check it out. Hopefully my HV still has good games in stock

I bought Halo Wars during the last sale at one store and was denied at another. But that second store had some wacky prices because even Street Fighter IV was ringing up $34.99 and that qualified everywhere else as far as I know (from what I saw and reports here). So I'm pretty sure Halo Wars was good back then. It says Halo Wars on my receipt so it wasn't like it was mistagged as Halo 3 or something.

It's probably just me not writing it down as qualifying. ;) I could have sworn I looked it up though. ah well... I can't check on prices till Sunday morning when I work next. Will go with it qualifying...

By the way I called the GC and talked to the guy who said he would transfer games for me. He told me to come back in there Friday when he's working again. I'm not sure why he did that as he was working when I called but I think it may have something to do with who else was working there that he didn't want to tip off or anything. I don't want to get the guy in trouble, so I hope he isn't doing anything wrong!

Anyway, I was worried this was just a 2 or 3 day sale and that might be too late. My Internet was out all day so now I can finally see super_dawn has the end date. That's great that it runs so long. I'm sure there will be restocks and trade-ins and all that at some point. Plus it gives me time to request stuff from HWV to get from GC. I think there's one store that I may be able to do that at.
