[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them (and they don't have restickered UPCs - see point 3 below) they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: http://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way). What we are currently missing is a good list of accessories. I have added a few that I know about. We need more info on these (and there must be more to uncover).

In general, I'm sticking with ShiningSlade's method of listing games. However, there are a few changes. Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Two CCs denied PMing another store's website for FEAR at 7.50. I never made it to the one who said they would when I called as I stopped by a Best Buy near my work and they actually PMed it. I couldn't believe that BB actually did it although this one once gave me a PM and a coupon on the same item (different manager though). It might have helped that I picked up Demonstone and Path of Neo (Xbox) for 5 each. After saying, "Wow, that's a big difference." He PMed it at 7.99 which was plenty close enough!
 
How exactly do you scan the UPC if you only have the numbers? Is there some program that can generate it for you or something?

Use the aforementioned UPC Database and print the bar code out. Then scan it at the price checker.

well my cousin works at target he showed me how to do it, so i guess yeh its not so easy for anyone to just figure it out....

but yeh the website and printing of the barcode is very promising. of you can goto http://kmart.slashbunny.com i believe thats the site. very nice site.

Then scan it at the price checker.[/quote] This is what I've always used to check prices because my Kmart has most of their games behind glass and it takes what seems forever to find someone, have them open up the case (why they have to try every key on their ring, I don't know), and take it to the register and scan. Although I do get a little self-concious when people see me scanning a piece of paper. :lol:

It's also fun to see the look on a cashier's face when the game is marked $34.99 - $29.99 and it rings up for under $10.

I got F.E.A.R. pricematched at Circuit City for $3.24 before tax. I really have no idea why they gave it to me for that price, as I showed them the page on K-mart's site for $7.49.

maybe because they subtracted 10% of the difference (7.49 - (49.99 - 7.49) X 10% = 3.24)

Oh, and did you take in the printed out ad or did they check the site for you?

Thanks, makes more sense now. Yep, I gave them the printed out ad, but the girl verified the site just to make sure. While she was verifying it, a guy came over and told her to just give me the deal(he was extremely nice). BTW, neither one of them cared about the site showing it out of stock, or maybe they just didn't notice.

Some Targets have newer scanners with numbers along each side (some retrofitted if they didn't have enough scanners and most built starting in 2004). Its meant as an easy way to check if stock is in the back for employees by scanning a UPC, shelf label or manualy entering the nine digit DPCI. The DPCI is Targets form of item numbers, its on all shelf labels, Sale/As Ad/Price Cut signs and is printed on your receipt. Its formatted xxx-yy-zzzz. The first set of numbers (three dgits(xxx) is the department (DP), the second set (two digits(yy) is the class (C)(software compared to hardware compared to accessories etc), and the last set (four digits(zzzz) is the actual item number (I) for that product. For you to be able to use the scanners you'll need that dpci number to enter as it doesn't accept manual entry of a UPC number. I believe video games are department 207 (207-yy-zzzz) but its been a couple of years since I worked there and things could have changed or I'm remembering wrong.

the one i picked up, then returned, actually had expired. the date was 3/31/07. but i remember reading somewhere that you could call microsoft with a retail card that you had bought, and they would fix an expired date. is that true?
 
Circuit City shot me down, refusing to even look at the site. Two different stores. Damn, and I never used to have trouble getting price matches on sites. Hot price on Stranger's Wrath, I'd love to pick that up.

I asked the guy to check the price because the store had absolutely NO self-scanners. The guy thought they originally rang up for $21. Instead, it rang up for $12. The moment he saw that, he asked me to hold on and grabbed himself the last one. :rofl:

Also noticed a display with generally crap games. Three I noticed with some notable mention.

Just got back from my local Kmart in Las Vegas. Went in looking for F.E.A.R. for the 360, found 1 copy but scanned for 49.99 and guy at electronics dep. said that Kmart wouldnt pricematch even their own website price. On the way out talked to Cust. Servie desk and a manager there told me she would honor the price with a website print out. Came back with the printout and got the game for 7.49, you can't beat that price anywhere. It felt great also going back to get the game from that smug clerk at electronics for that price. To top it off i got a big bag of Lays chips for my gf for only 2 bucks. Chips and a 360 game for 10 dollars. Also today I went to EB for that b2g1f and got Growlanser for PS2, LOTR(rts game)for 360, and Saints Row for the 360, all in great shape. Thanks again CAG! Best.......site.......ever.

i was just as surprised when i found them at this price last week, as per my story earlier in the thread.
 
Ok, I went to Circuit City and got shot down. they said it has to be a circular or flyer with the game advertised. Plus at the top of the print out it said clearance and they don't PM Clearance.

So I left there and saw a line outside of Best Buy and decided to check it out. Turns out it's 50% off of Open Box Merch. Day! I bought a DVD/VCR for my Mom for $29.99 and a A/V Tower for $29.99!!! That was $200.00 originally.

Here's the best part. When I was online I remembered I had the K-Mart print-out in my pocket so when the manager gave me the discount on the other stuff I asked him if he would price match and he said ok! I got 2 Copies of F.E.A.R. for the 360 at $15.00 Total. I did not expect that at all. I think he was just happy to get rid of all that open box crap.

Guys, at kmart I ran into 2 copies of Half Life 2 one with nothing and one with an added upc behind it. The upc over the label made that copy ring up at 9.99 and the one without at 2 bucks. I am not sure if this was common knowledge here, but try finding a copy without the added upc on it. May ring up cheaper.

When a clearance goes on, this is generally common practice. I sorted through an entire stack of $14.99 copies of Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge before I found one with no added UPC that was ringing up at $2 or $3.

Picked up Advance Wars : Dual Strike for $9 the other day at the chico, ca k-mart

didn't have anymore though, it had a yellow clearance tag.
 
Over the weekend I scored a copy of Dynasty Warriors Advance for $3 + tax, so that's confirmed (again?).

Funny thing was, I also found some Transformers on massive clearance...Cybertron Defense Scattorshot and Nemesis Breaker, both marked $21.99...rang up at $4 even apiece. :D That makes me a happy Transformers collector. :)
 
Damn. Should have went to price match FEAR a few days ago. My CC actually goes online to check the price. Now, with the page gone off Kmart's website, I'm SOL. Google's cache ain't gonna cut it.
 
UPDATE on the Curtis DVD Player/VCR in the OP:

I spotted it again today, at a local Kmart for: $48.00 It was the same model# as the one I found about 2 months ago. SO, this is dropping in price QUICK.

And, while not a phenomenal deal, it is about $300ish off normal price, I found a new HDTV on clearance:

The Kmart I was at today(Honesdale, PA) had buttloads of DVD players and other electronics on clearance too. I didn't write down EVERY price, but many were $20-40 off normal retail. Most of the items on clearance were RCA/Sylvania, including a DVD Recorder for under $100($78ish I think it was).

Another item of note was a 5 disc home theater system for $120(RCA brand, I believe), normally sells for $149, but wait a couple months and this will be a great deal I'm sure.

Just a quick heads up for any CAGs in the market for some discounted dvd players. Oh....and they also had out a 360 Elite in the case while I was there.
