[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

A gamer of 20 years will more than likely find CAG eventually. I've been a gamer for almost 20 years and have worked in Corporate Retail (marketing and advertising) for 3 major retailers (my current one doesn't sell games).

It's probably coincidence (or not) he/she works in the department mentioned. The person seemed to be helpful and in all seriousness wanted to attempt to correct a problem many of us have with "said store". However, acknowledging who you are (job title/responsibility) is when problems like this occur.

Buyers and Assistant Buyers could care less about someone posting clearanced items as long as it leaves the store legit (paid for and not by some pricing or coupon error) to make way for newer items. There isn't some magical computer that just continuously drops or clearance items out. All these prices (like $70 37" LCD TVs) have to be keyed in (by Buyers/AB's or the Marketing Dept). They are fully aware of the drops. Now when the left foot (advertising) isn't in step with the right foot (marketing), like what's been happening at Corporate BB, real problems happen (free games)!

And you are correct dpb6058. Most AB's work 50+ hours a week and are too busy getting vendor samples, meetings and keying data to bother going after someone. AB's do most of the work, while their Buyers reap the rewards (bonuses and other crap). Their main goal is to become a Buyer themselves and have some other person do their job. However, I totally understand and agree with Kay's decision (I, as well as most of you, would do the same).

No he does not need to be incognito (have a lil faith staff will help guide him to improve the company, I'm not suggesting he goes in to fire staff) ... hell we all know K is on it's last legs..., but he does need to dress as a regular staff member and arrive unannounced (perhaps on the manager's day off) It's all about what the customer is experiencing and would he even shop there ... it's not about "catching" staff members, that will happen on it's own with the correct policies and management.

Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Dead Space, Ratchet and Clank and Little Big Planet all in the same damn row, and all you could see was Final Fantasy 13.

At what point did I call you specifically naive? If anything I'm referring more to store employees who post "insider" info (that they know they could get in trouble for if they get caught) as long as they don't see any visible sign that someone from the store is here, but then get spooked and bail the moment someone corporate shows up. But really, the whole purpose of those documents is to keep things like regular sale ads, Black Friday sales, etc. from getting out, to keep the competition from knowing their plans in advance. That really doesn't apply to clearance items, because no competition is going to match clearance prices unless they happen to be clearancing the items too. At the point at which you're doing clearance, your goal is less to make money and more to move stock that's not selling out of the way to make room for new stock that will sell. From that standpoint, it is absolutely to Kmart's advantage to have someone posting clearance info here so that we go and buy up that stock and get it out of their inventory.

I was also pointing out to our new Kmart buyer that he has, albeit probably inadvertently, caused a situation which will likely make people here hostile to him by showing himself, and pointing out what he could do to fix that if he intends to be active here.

I was not suggesting that he try to "catch" anyone -- the problems are for the most part endemic to the stores themselves, not to individual employees, and going in and weeding out a few bad employees would serve no real purpose. I was saying that if he wants to have the real experience of how the stores are, he needs to be anonymous to the staff. If they know who he is, they're going to be afraid of being caught (whether that's his intent or not) and they are not going to behave in their normal manner around him. He's going to get a bright and cheery view of the store in which all employees are extra helpful and always around, rather than the normal slacking that goes on. He's going to see stores that have been cleaned up in advance of his coming, rather than the disorganized mess that is usually there. Basically, he's going to get the "oh shit, someone from corporate is here" treatment. What would be the possible purpose to that?

Of course, if he really wants to see the "in-store experience" for the customer, all he really has to do is go shop there as a customer. That in itself should be revealing.

there was a cranky old lady at my kmart she was not happy when i asked her to look for a tv for me and when i hinted at her looking behind or letting me look behind the games she said dont ask me to do it. lol so i will have to go back when there is a happier employee working there, i did get quake wars for 5 bucks. anyone have any recommendations from the clearance games list that i should pick up my kmart has like all of them but i dont know which ones are actually worth the 5 bucks. I did see lost planet but it rang up 19.99 it looked good but i dont wanna pay that much for it.

i found quake wars for ps3 in nc and xblades to but i cant remember which console it was for. i can pick you up a copy did you find any extra scene it? i really wanted that but could not find it

The quickest way to take care of this would be to call the corporate number and complain about the lady and the store it happened at. You will get a response and it only takes one phone call. However that call might also get the electronics dept. reorganized and the games case priced properly which would mean your deals are gone. I think we have found the problem with Kmart electronics, the employees simply don't want to sell you anything!
 
In no way was I trying to derail this forum, I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. I have worked in the stores to understand what are areas of improvement and I do value forum opinions as well. Thank you for the feedback and we'll keep trying to make the store more shoppable. Please understand it can be a difficult proccess to make wholesale changes very quickly for a large company but I've got a great team here and we'll definitely keep working at it. I'll definitely get off the thread to let you guys get back on topic. BTW, I have no idea who Kay is and did not sanction this individual from posting anything.

If it helps I have no issue in telling you all new items that we are taking to clearance. It really isn't supposed to be so difficult to tell which games are being marked down.

We decide the first Friday of each month what to put in our markdown system depending upon weeks of supply and other factors and progress markdowns on titles already in the system. These new prices always hit the stores the third fiscal week of the month to maintain consistency operationally.

I'll provide you guys a complete listing of everything in our system as I don't care how it sells as long as it does! I mean, that's the reason we mark down titles to begin with.

Just some overall context on why we put items in clearance, it's not just based on overall sales. Our inventory position means a great deal to share holders and I have a commitment to our business to hit our inventory targets throughout the year. We pick titles that need a "pick me up" in terms of sales and put them through our markdown system.

I'll post the new items every month on this thread; I'm actually kind of excited about it!
 
Picked up :360: the Last Remnant for $4.97! Thanks for the UPC technique, saved me some time (was marked @ $19.97). Shame nothing else on my list was in stock. Just another heads up, Star Ocean is down to $4.97 as well, no copies around here tho.

My wife saw one of those "non disclosure agreements" they keep talking about today. They didn't ask her to sign it, but it was floating around. Why would they require only CERTAIN employees to sign, and you're volunteering information?

How do they say it on 4chan? "Obvious troll is obvious"?
 
I think all of this is kinda amusing. K mart has sent a super spy to CAG. I think if this was the case if someone walked in to K mart Tommrrow the game cases would be arraged were you could actually ready the titles.

Hey jasapathy:

No legal issue at all actually; we advertise clearance product consistently online and in our print circular, this is in the same vain. I would never jeopardize any proprietary information. I completely understand the concern, if you have any issues at all feel free to contact my work email which I have listed in an earlier post.

All I am pointing out is pricing that is effective in stores which is supposed to be easy to buy; not sure what stinks about that......

Can you explain the discrepancy in mark downs? Why is it that one store will have it marked down to $x.xx but another store won't mark it down at all or a few weeks later?

Generally speaking it should match but if there is a large enough variance some stores are not progressed at the same time.

Isn't the NDA about releasing sale prices before they are announced? To keep competitors from knowing what they are going to be having on sale? Thats what someone said prior in this thread and that makes sense to me.

Does it mean the more copies a title sell, the less chances it has of being on clearance?

On the same note I'd imagine there is absolutely nothing wrong with posting the new clearance drops. Like I said I completely understand not posting upcoming sales before they are released publicly...I never thought the NDA was about releasing clearance price drops.

Exactly, if a title is selling well at a particular price point there is no reason to discount it further.

So if a store has 5 copies of a title from two years ago, shouldn't that mean it's due for a pricedrop?

I'm looking at something from a couple of years ago that has dropped in several store (including Sears) but won't budge at Kmart.
 
SHC could you help us out and explain why such games as Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 have not gone on clearance yet? I mean it's a couple years old and it's been sitting on the shelf at full price. I mean I don't think people are in the market for it any longer since Guitar Hero 5 and other more up to date games have been released within the past year. Thanks.

I've always wondered, why is it that a game like Heavenly Sword (which Wal-Mart and Gamestop have lower priced) won't go down in price, but so many other things (Hell, TVs go down much faster, and some end up cheaper than the game itself) keep going down in price. I'm sure the niche market isn't so amazing that it still sells at $60 at such a constant rate that it's profitable to keep it at that price point. Why do things like this tend to happen?
 
Generally, I just watch the Target clearances like a hawk but since it's been slow lately, I decided to stop in K-Mart today because of a few deals I saw posted in this thread.

I was surprised that I actually found anything, but this is what I ended up taking home:

:360: Rock Band Drum Set $6.99 (x2)
:ps3: NHL 09

I haven't had a hockey game since Sega Genesis, so I did a quick internet search on my phone to see if NHL 09 or NHL2k9 was better and picked NHL 09 according to multiple reviews saying it was superior. Those last two drum sets were perfect because my girlfriend's brother just got :360: Guitar Hero 5 and all he had was the guitar and last year I found one of the :360: Guitar Hero World Tour dual guitar bundles for a friend of mine. I called both and they each said pick it up after I convinced them it was really only $7.

I passed on:

:ps3: Dark Sector $4.97
:360: Dark Sector $4.97
:360: Pirates of the Caribbean $4.97
:psp: MLB The Show 09 $4.97
:ps3: NHL 2k9 $1.99

Almost took Dark Sector, but figured I had enough AAA shooters I haven't played. No need to pick up a run in the mill one.

Also, I've seen :ps2: Fire Pro Wrestling Returns there every time I've ever gone to that store. I've always wanted one of the FPW games, but I couldn't bring myself to buy a :ps2: game that cost half as much as two Rock Band drum sets and a year old :ps3: sports title. Maybe next time.
 
We'll miss you Kay! Wish I could of found one of those discounted TVs for under 100, seem like they always disappered to the back on markdown days.

I think everyone has doubts when it comes to the internet, I can easily register "CEO-Sears" as my forum handle. I'm sure people will believe SHC once he posts some markdowns (or even March's Complete Markdowns).


Anyone know if MLB 2k9 on clereance for all systems? Or just PS3?
 
This may be a completely stupid question but where do you find clearance items in your particular Kmart stores? Are they on the shelves, in bins, on a endcap, etc?

If your stores are anything like my stores, then those games are probably in their respective cases for each console/handheld and you'll have to ask an employee to get them out of there if you want to buy them.

Sadly, that's what i thought....
rarely do you find anyone who wants to help and when you actually want a retail game from the case they act as if you are inconveniencing them.....
