Alright, it's going to be a great second half of 2007 for Guitar Hero fans, as we get the first Guitar Hero themed release this summer with Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s and the next full installment, Guitar Hero IIII, will be coming out this fall.
For the time being, we've got nothing better to do than talk about the announced tracks for these games and speculating on what bands and songs should be there, too.
As for Guitar Hero III, not much is known right now. Red Octane has mentioned that they're focusing on getting AC/DC, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin into the new game, but we'll have to wait to see if they're successful or not. Queen of the Stone Age is being rumored as the first confirmed band on the game's tracklist. As for features, Red Octane mentions wireless controllers and online play as two of the big features for this year's game, though I haven't seen any mention of those being specifically for all the console versions or just next-gen. Hopefully, E3 will provide much more info on Guitar Hero III's initial tracklist and feature set as the fall nears.
This just in (7/10), we've got some Guitar Hero III tracks!:

So right now, we have two master tracks and the rest are covers. It doesn't look like the ratio from GHII will change much for Rock the 80s. If you didn't, know this is the last Guitar Hero game being developed by Harmonix, as they'll be moving on to the highly ambitious Rock Band, which they're working on with MTV and EA. There's supposed to be around 30 tracks for Rock the 80s, which we're already near the halfway point at 17 tracks right now.
Rock the 80s is currently a PS2 exclusive and with Guitar Hero III being the big focus for Red Octane on the next-gen systems, it wouldn't be surprising to see it stay that way, though DLC is always an option.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll be updating info on both games as it comes in, so be sure to check back often for the newest info. In the meantime, I'd like to see what bands or songs you guys are hoping to see in both of these games.
