Very impressive showcase! New handheld called Project Q. The game that really stood out to me was the Plucky Squire. They took the look of Yoshi's crafted world and A Link Between Worlds and blended it into one game. Very cool. Much better than I expected especially with some of the cool VR games that we're announced. I was hoping they would talk about more backwards compatible games but that can be announced later. I definitely recommend you watch the Showcase.

So then release a physical version at $69.99.
Hey man I get it. I still buy certain physical games (Metal Gear for one), but i swapped over to digital primarily a couple years back and only buy the stuff I want to display in my game room/collection.

Honestly in this day and age, discs are fucking pointless. Between day one patches, and basically having to download the entire game, if it is possible to save $20 bucks on every game, I am all for it.

I honestly think that this will be the last disc console generation.

Pretty average showcase IMHO. I was falling asleep a bit by the time the Metal Gear stuff came up. I'm still iffy about a remake without Kojima. I'll still likely play it since MGS 3 was one of the best of the series. Dragon's Dogma 2 looked neat, Spider-Man looks solid, and Plucky Squire is likely the one I want to play the most. I'm not really happy with that streaming device, but it is what it is. I'm a bit tired of Monster Hunter like games myself, and we have plenty more coming. FFXVI looks like a confusing mess, but I'm getting it on release because I always play the non MMO FF games. Playstation VR2 games look neat, so I may have to get one sometime in the future.

Anyone have any input on Forspoken Digi Deluxe for 50% off?  Wait for a deeper sale or does that price justify the content?  Even after the patches?

why not wait for a Christmas sale bud? $47 is way to much for that . $20 seems like a fair price

Lots of cool indies and Spider-Man 2 looks rad, so I enjoyed the showcase.

Teardown is a very cool voxel destruction heist game on PC, though mine is not as powerful as a PS5 or Xbox Series X. I'm guessing it'll run better there, but is missing the cool Steam Workshop maps and weapons that are just fun to blow up or destroy buildings as my framerate stays in the single digits or the game crashes with all of the chaos going on. Very fun fuck around game. It seems like they'll include some of the most popular mods from the PC version on console.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub8ojPRgumE

New Cat Quest game, new game from Scott Benson's studio (Night in the Woods), new game from Giant Squid (Abzu/The Pathless), new game from the Gris developer, new Talos Principle, new Helldivers, and Ultros from a new indie studio.

If you value new games at $59.99 to $69.99, then sure.

Me, I value most physical games at $20-$40 besides the couple of day one releases that I buy each each year. Collectors Editions are mostly $80-$130 and that's for all the physical extras.

But I don't value digital games at "$20 cheaper", AKA 40 or 50 bucks. Publishers have shown us time and time again that once they have a full blown deathgrip on the distribution pipeline, that everything remains at full price, and they use that digital distribution as a vehicle to profit to the maximum. When everything goes full-digital then there are no deals. Most of that stuff costs more than physical standard editions that I purchase. (on clearance from Target, Amazon, and occasionally Gamestop).

The thing that bums me out is that Alan Wake 2 is digital only. I loved the original Alan Wake and have been waiting way too long for this sequel. I really loved the first game’s collector’s edition and was hoping AW2 would have something similar. I guess not. Maybe they will release some physical items down the road by themselves.

I am hyped for the MGS3 remake. I hate Konami, and not having Kojima is a negative for me, but it could still be good.

Spider-Man 2 looking fantastic of course. Can’t wait to play that.

Otherwise everything else was kind of meh to me tbh

We need to insist on physical games as a community. Once we allow companies to go digital only then we lose the power as consumers to resell or find cheaper pre-owned copies. All of these games we buy to play now will eventually become available digitally and playable via emulation or on hacked consoles. The e-shops for digital goods can go down and your digital purchases are not guaranteed to be accessible forever. A physical copy can at least maintain its value and be accessible offline as long as you have a working console. We are screwing ourselves giving in to the convenience of not having to get up to swap discs.

On the other hand GameStop ceases to exist post-digital. Which world would you rather live in?

I am very pro digital but I do believe there is a place for physical.  So I see both sides of the coin.  I just feel that the arguments of which is better are fucking null and void because both are one in the same with their own caveats.

Plus as long as they keep putting out physical MGS stuff, I will keep buying it lol.

GameStop is the reason I was able to get a copy of 50Cent blood on the sand for $15 instead of paying trumped up eBay prices. That place has its pros and cons.

I’m buying a PlayStation 5 and haven’t been in this ecosystem since PS3 days. I must have had a PlayStation 4 at some point because i played Until Dawn and the Last of Us.

Anyways, any multiplatform game i will purchase on Xbox because it’s my preference, but i know the exclusives are incredible. I’ve googled a couple lists and bought or wishlist accordingly.

Does anybody have any PlayStation exclusive hidden gems that aren’t so well known?

This is what i bought without even having a console yet:
Killzone Shadow Fall™
UNCHARTED 4: A Thief’s End & UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle
Bloodborne™
Heavy Rain
Journey™ Collector’s Edition
Dreams™
Days Gone
Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
Concrete Genie

I don't have anything against digital, I just want there to be the option of physical. That way if people want digital, they can get digital, and if they want physical, they can get physical.

This. I will sadly be skipping Alan Wake 2 because I don't want to show my support for digital only.

I just keep thinking of Sonys shot at Xbox for deciding to not be able to share used games which led to them not going through with it. I think the real future is, being able to share or sell a digital game whenever, wherever with anyone. Not talkin about gameshare.

Digital 4 lyfe. I’m all for digital only. I haven’t bought physical in years. No clutter, way more streamlined and so much easier to purchase goods. I may be an outlier (or not) but I won’t be missing physical goods when it comes to discs.

Detroit: Become Human is always omitted on the lists of amazing Sony exclusives. It's by the same developer that made Heavy Rain, and is easily their best work. Detroit is like a Telltale game except your choices can change the story dramatically. There may be a demo. I know there is one on Steam.

Just added to my wishlist, thank you

I dunno if you like racing games but the Wipeout Collection is one of the all-time greatest racers. Also has Perhaps also one of the best soundtracks compiled for a video game too. Just an absolute classic that I played thru on vita, ps3, ps4 and psvr. I’m kind of done with playstation at this point, but if they ever announce a new Wipeout game I would probably have to seriously consider getting a ps5.

Rainbow Moon and Rainbow Skies are pretty cool retro-inspired rpgs. Both have a huge world to explore, solid tactical battles, and nice graphics and music. Just chill games.

The Knowledge is Power games are my favorite trivia games. Really beautiful graphics that look handcrafted and like claymation. I know graphics aren’t the first thing ppl think about when they think of trivia games, but it’s legitimately one of the most visually pleasing games I’ve ever played. And it’s really fun in multiplayer.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is also fun in multiplayer. Plays like a a great Nintendo co-op 3D platformer. Incredibly underrated.

All this discussion of physical vs. digital is pretty much a moot point. It’s already happened and isn’t going to slow down. The publishers and platform holders have literally NO REASON whatsoever financially to continue to with physical games.

They don’t have to print copies that go unsold.
They don’t have to make deals with retailers.
They don’t have to share income from digital sales.
They completely control price as there is nowhere else to get the game.

Even if they continue to produce special editions, they will start coming with a steel book and code like many already do.

Idiots have been posting this for 10 years. "Zomg the death of physical media!"

In fact it was this kind of attitude that completely sunk Microsoft all the way back in 2013. They haven't made a full recovery since then. Here we are, all these years later, and nearly half of game sales are still physical. Regardless of those of you that like to post this pointlessly bigoted flamebait.

Nvm that vinyl is back in stores, books have made a GIANT comeback, and there are all kinds of 4K's, blu-rays, and anime to order. Specialty media is doing just fine tyvm. Regardless that you sit on your ass at home ordering Door Dash, while punching your dork to Netflix, and buying digital games + MTXs with no idea what is going on outside your own bubble.

I’d say check these out too if you’re looking for console exclusives, depending on your gaming preferences. Most are first party titles that I didn’t see on your list. Including both PS5 and PS4 games (since the PS5 console plays both). Some were mentioned in posts above, and I’ve repeated those mainly in agreement and/or personal experience. There aren’t as many exclusive, smaller games in this list, since most indie developers try to port their games to as many platforms as possible. I did try to include a few, though in those cases, it was likely ported to PC as well. In any case, hope it helps—you’ll have plenty of good stuff to experience!
