PS3 80GB MGS4 Bundle In Stock at Amazon.com

Too bad these models are actually not 100% backwards compatible. I know people that tried games like Ratchet and Clank Going Commando and it didn't work...

For those interested in the BC part of this model.

PS3 strictly, it has become a $500 paperweight to me. Could probably eBay it for make $700 or more but bleh, maybe things will change next year...or the year after...[/quote]
Seriously with the fantastic release season the PS3 just had you're saying you have nothing to play on it?

I agree with Ragnarok, PS3 had some great releases in the past few months, not to mention a few (yes I know it's not a lot) excellent games from the past. If your PS3 is a $500 paper weight then perhaps you should consider purchasing some software (games or blurays) to accompany your PS3.

Resistance 2, LBP & Valkyria Chronicles? Yeah, played them already & only VC was worth my time/purchase. Other than those 3, I haven't anything else this season.

Gamefly exists for a reason ...I've played all the exclusive titles already & aside from VC, GT 5 &, to an extent, MGS 4, I've never seen such a lackluster library.

To me, PS3 was supposed to handle all the big exclusives while 360 handles the multiplats & to my surprise, I should have just stayed solely with a 360 instead of flushing $500 down the toilet because I fell into the hype.

Item is out of stock and if you see it I recommend hoping on it (if you're interested in PS3).

Also, why do people always talk about how good a console is, or is not, when these threads come up? We all clearly know how to use the internet and can check out the reviews and figure things out ourselves. No need for you to get on the soap box and tell us how much a system sucks/rocks. No one cares.

These models are about 90% BC, good enough for most people. But it won't play games like the R&C series, and Tekken Tag properly.

@UberNinjaz

You obviously haven't played any of the PS store games. Lumines Supernova, Super Stardust HD, Street fighter 2 turbo hd remix, Echochrome, Pixeljunk monsters, Pixel junk eden, the last guy, flow, wipeout HD, megaman 9, bionic comando rearmed. All of these games are amazing peices of software, and most are exlcusive, and the titles that aren't are more enjoyable on ps3 due to the d-pad actually being functional as a primary mode of input.... Unfortunately for you, you were dumb enough to buy into sonys hype, Xbox is the place to go for exclusive games, but that doesn't mean there aren't any great games for the ps3. Not to mention you also paid extra to have a blueray player, If you weren't interested in that feature you shouldn't have bought it, because that was one of the key factors in the high price of the ps3.

The WSJ just ran an article titled "Hope Fades for PS3 as a Comeback Player." Usually by the time the media crowns something a winner, it's past its peak (kinda like the Madden curse) - so maybe the opposite is true, and things will actually pick up for Sony. $500 is a lot of bones, though; the Blu-ray premium is shrinking as standalone players get cheaper.

I'd only agree since I don't have enough dough to buy all the PS3 games I want. I found my MGS4 80gb at a local FYE about 2 months ago. Sadly, school, dating, bills, and Christmas shopping have taken all my money :/ . Here's hoping that chip and dale/porno job happens soon :).

I was thinking of getting this a couple of weeks ago when they first got it in stock but I went for the much more limited edition Gunmetal Grey version for $399. Plus, backwards compatibility means nothing to me since I still have a fully functional PS2; of which I don't have that many games for anyways. I would certainly recommend this version though to anyone interested in partial BC... but you have to remember, you're basically paying $50 for MGS4 and $50 for BC compared to the plain $399 80GB PS3.

Don't forget SD and Media Readers, plus 2 extra USB slots that come with this older version and don't with the new 80gb and 160gb.

Well, I'd love to snag one, my 60gb ps3 (along with my wii, xbox 360, and my wife's mac powerbook) were stolen three weeks ago. And I need the media card readers and the bc (I have a ton of unplayed PS2 RPGs I promised myself I'd finish)....

I don't have many options as far as a 60gb ps3 is concerned.

Craig's list, ebay, a gamestop refurb...ugh. A new 80gb MGS model would probably fit the bill...

It's amazing how badly Sony has dropped the ball with the PS3.

I broke down and got the 80 (not BC) with LBP and 2 BRs from Amazon for $260 (after discounts and rebate) and I got Ratchet for $23 (used complete), Resistance 1 for $15, and Heavenly Sword for $20.

I had a 60 G sitting in my basement for 3 months last year before selling if off at a profit--there just wasn't anything to play.

I guess the amazing thing is the PS2 was able to hold onto the PS1's lead . . . it seems that being out in front (NES beat out by the Genesis--initially . . . the PS1 beating out the N64) is a disadvantage in the console wars.

Maybe the PS4 will regain the crown.

You do know Sony is adamant about having a 10-year lifespan on the PS3 and we're only on year 3, right?

Well I suppose there's no pleasing some people. I mean you think Resistance 2 and freakin Little Big Planet are wastes of time:roll:? Little Big Planet is one of the most highly reviewed games this year, and with good reason. What games do you like?

They've been pumping these babies out about once every 6 years. I wouldn't be surprised with a release to compete with Microsoft and Nintendo's next consoles.

Anything on Xbox I bet, some people are just born to hate. You put LBP on the 360 and its the fucking game of the year.

Actually, there is a plus to having a PS3 with BC if you have a HDTV: Upscaling. When I had my PS2 hooked up the games looked like someone had a thin coat of Vaseline over the screen-- now the games look even more amazing with PS2 upscale on my MGS 80 gig.

Now if they'd just stop crashing...

Now that final fantasy XIII is coming out for the 360 i dont think i'll ever get a ps3. It will be a long wait to inevitably play mgs4 someday, and it will be painful when god of war 3 comes out, but besides those two games I can't think of anything.

Regarding backwards compatibility-I don't think that list has been updated, as I've played the only game I own that claims to not run, and it ran fine. I suspect firmware has improved the backwards compatibility.

Darn good BluRay player that also happens to play some cool video games.

One day to contribute to Child's Play -- lets go!

If you think nintendo is going to even CONSIDER releasing a new console in the next 4-5 years, you're out of your mind. The wii isnt even a video game system anymore to the general public, its like the ipod culture wise. It is the new board game for the high tech century. Nintendo will be milking this cow for years and years. What reason could they POSSIBLY have to stop trying to milk the wii and its games for?

Its sonys advantage in a way that they can extend the life of the PS3 much longer and not need to introduce the PS4 anytime soon. The 360 can also just try harder for mass market support (and fail) while dropping price more and more for years to come.

I honestly think this is going to be the longest gen in a loooooooooooooooong time, and am very happy about it. Look at games like gears 2, killzone 2, LBP, etc. These games look SUPERB and we really havent seen all that these HD consoles can do. Its painfully obvious that graphics arent what the "general" gaming console person is after, so theres no need anytime soon to introduce new more expensive hardware.

There will be many new things introduced over the years. As much as i despise the Wii, its going to help make sure that no one is stupid enough to release a new console anytime soon.

& what reason would that be? Cutesy graphics? A level creator that might as well not exist when Sony deletes your custom-made map even if it has the slightest similarity to another IP or another entertainment format like a book or movie?

LBP might appeal to people who only own a Wii &/or have barely touched video games in their lifetime but I don't see the appeal in this slow 2D platformer. Not to mention I could give less of a shit these days about reviews when most of them seemed to be bribed like GTA 4 & Bioshock for instance.

Are you even serious or are you just trying to play the part of the brain addled gamer that can't see past outward appearances.

Little Big Planet is one of the most innovative games that's been put out in years. There's nothing else like it out there. You have unparalleled freedom to create within the game. The art direction is simply brilliant, and it has remained one of the most fun games in my collection. Some of the player created levels I've played have simply blown my mind in the quality people can put out with this game. The levels that have been moderated and have actually stayed removed is negligible.

If you can't see past the cuteness to see the masterpiece of a game that it is, that's you loss I'm afraid.

No, it'd end up getting overlooked again.

LBP isn't for everyone.

Hey, I don't want to get involved in any battles and I'm not taking sides. I just want to say that I second the statement about not trusting bribed reviewers, and I applaud anyone that can think for themselves.

So a PS3 bundle that everyone wants enough that it sells out immediately when it comes into stock has miraculously reappeared, and that turns into people running in to tell you not to buy it. It reminds me of when I was a little kid and we'd argue over Nintendo and Sega products because we were in elementary school and didn't have the money to actually own both machines. Thing is these machines aren't mutually exclusive of each other, and as far as PS3 bundles go this is the best one left you can sometimes get at retail. On a side note for those wondering how good the 80-90% B/C actually is, I play mostly obscure PS2 RPGs on it and only Tales from the Abyss ever gave me any trouble. Even that has a work around though if you have a memory card adapter, and it may have been fixed in a newer patch.

Maybe it's just me and I'm certainly not looking for an argument... But what the fuck about ps3 not having any good games? Let's pause for a second, I love my ps3 and have always disliked microsoft ever since the first xbox controller. I never liked their exclusives and thats just me... Now, before i go off on that let me say I've got so many games on my ps3 my backlog is backed up to about 8-10 games and i game everyday. Besides, over half the (good) games on the 360 are on the ps3 due to ports and multi-platform releases anyway
