I don't like every PS+ game but even I can recognize the value. Same as with something like Netflix. And depending on how you look at it, there's something to be said of getting games/movies you wouldn't have otherwise bought. For all its faults I just really don't see how anyone can seriously criticize it. Industry-shifting stuff on their part.
There's also the fact that they've been giving out mostly brand new titles for PS4 every month. You practically don't need to buy any downloadable games for it if you have PS4 (which could actually be a bit of a problem going forward, as people are just conditioned to wait for games to go free instead of paying for them). It's a crazy value if you have a PS4, and still hard to beat even if you've just a Vita or PS3, the later of which will inevitably dry up eventually (but that's hardly unexpected), which is to say nothing of people that have all three.

I guess I'm just repeating what people have already said, so I'll stop rambling now. PS+ is great; don't be a moron.

If you completed the Gold & Silver challenges for the PS@E3 app, you should be getting a code for the reward points right around now, as I just got mine.

Affa, did you ever play Narco Terror? Its a dual stick shooter as well. Pretty shitty, but bundled with Sacred Citadel for $10 total I took a shot. Its mindless and decently entertaining. I wish Crimsonland were on PS3 and I would have bought it too. But at least I can hope it will be a free game on plus eventually so I can get it and play it after I move on to the PS4.
Hmmm. Just watched video of it... it looks like a mediocre execution of a concept I might really like (dss set in modern day). I"m totally on the fence though because, well, $10 is $10 and I've pretty much moved on from my ps3 to my vita/ps4. I haven't even beaten dark souls 2 yet.

Sacred Citadel looks like some sort of brawler... maybe narco tower will have some better sale in the future. I'll pick it up at $5ish... but thanks for letting me know. If it's a dds, I'll give most anything a shot.

awesome, glad people got the codes.

finally cleared the spideroid quest in crimsonland without being touched.   i don't have a problem with most levels, but holy hell that was harder than it should have been.   maybe i'm just getting old.

now i'm on a different spider one that's just as hard (not to clear, but to clear perfect).  i think it's in world 3.

spiders are awesome little enemies.  larger ones move and turn slower, some of them dart and stop like spiders do... little ones move faster than you do so fancy footwork only goes so far.

i've got destiny beta (awesome), nfs (deep in it, awesome), and yet i'm playing crimsonland every chance i get.   i'll go back to destiny tonight if i get a chance, i guess, i miss the alpha.

That robot spider quest was probably the hardest one of all of them on that difficulty, though you can probably wait to do perfect runs until you unlock more weapons to make it easier.

With one phrase, Vigilante has made Andrew Ryan's ears perk up.

"Would you kindly?"

did you perfect the spider quest after that? the one where hoards come from top and bottom and you start with some sort of plasm machine gun? i can beat it, but i've yet to perfect it. my biggest issue is that weapons seem to rarely spawn on it and the starting gun, while good, isn't great towards the end of the round.

i cleared the dividing spider with a rocket launcher. came close quite a few times before that, felt good to finally get it.

No, I didn't go for perfects when playing through the quests, as I wanted to unlock the perks and weapons for survival mode.

I haven't finished yet but I'm so glad I'm playing P4G on easy. Briefly mentioned this the other day. I NEVER play games below 'normal' difficulty but I absolutely hate these dungeons. Such a drag. Are all SMT games this way? The battles aren't hard just freaking tedious, man. Best part is when the game is all like "this enemy is immune to FIRE!!" and your AI partner proceeds to cast a fire spell. Yes, I know I can manually control them but ain't nobody got time foh dat.

Love the story and social links part though. So it makes me wonder if I'll even bother with the other SMT if they're light on story. Complete opposite of affa, I guess.

But you have the time to let the AI run amok to make them last longer than they would otherwise?

I hear you. I really want to like Persona but there is a lot of tedium in that game. What I recommend you do - in fact, I just did this today myself - is watch the TV show adaptation. It is really faithful to the game and it's just great. You can watch it on crunchyroll, which is like Netflix for anime. The first episode is free and it's available on every PlayStation device.

Oh, yeah, I have no issue with the quests if I let myself get hit; but I'm ocd enough about dss's that i usually only play 'perfect' games. for example, i restart super stardust from the beginning if i lose my multiplier in the first 3 worlds.

No, Persona is the only one i can think of (that I've played) that has randomized dungeons. Most have fixed, well designed dungeons.

I'm perfectly fine with generated dungeons, but the ones in persona are particularly bad.

I did a breakdown of all of them a page or two ago, how they divide across major mechanics.

Then, you'd dislike Persona 3. It has one whole dungeon with 250+ floors. Except that in Persona 4 they actually lowered the amount and actually put some time into making the floors look slightly different from each other. In a later dungeon, it has a floor that acts a lot like "Devil Road" from Final Fantasy IV. Digital Devil Saga doesn't seem to have the floor/dungeon aspect. But I seem to remember Devil Summoner 2 had its share of dungeons but it's been a while since I last played. As for controlling each party member "manually" I find it to be quite better and faster. Because you're not relying on the computer AI to cast the spell that you want when you could pick it and know what you're going for. I at least had time for that.

The weakness/strengths are a staple in the series of the SMT/Persona series. So if you end up playing other games in the series you'll end up having to learn what's weak against what and what happens to be strong against what. The same stuff applies to your party members and from the other games that I've played. I'd also say the same for story since I found them all to be enjoyable and not "light" on anything. Also, when you get strong enough, "All-Out Attacks" will be your friend. Persona 3 & 4 are the only games with the social links. By the way, all SMT games aren't that way. Some of them have action battle systems, turn based and other games that are actual SMT titles (Persona 3 & 4 are only in name for brand recognition). Then there's first person view battles like SMT IV on the 3DS. They also have SRPG's like the Devil Survivor series.

They aren't light on story so much as they aren't drowning in it. Nocturne, DDS, etc, all have compelling dark stories... just no high school stuff / romance / hanging out / etc.

And I'm so mad at myself I decided to try normal against my better judgement. Finally beat the boss I'd been stuck on for a month a few days ago after some vigorous grinding, but I'm not looking forward to doing the same for the next 70h or so.

So I should play P4G on easy then? It's my first SMT game ever, if that helps.
I think most people do that because it lets you play for the story and breeze through / not care about dungeons and battles.

Being your first SMT game doesn't matter too much. SMT games center around the press turn system, which is a solidly designed combat system centering on elemental weaknesses. Generally, that means you can increase your attacks per turn by exploiting enemy weaknesses (and your enemies can do the same). This can also stun opponents, and in some SMT games leaves them open for devouring or capturing. Attacking an enemy strength can instantly end your round, or even cause blowback damage. Furthermore, limitations on skills (done differently in various games) force you to design your team relatively carefully.

Now, with P4G on easy you can pretty much click x to proceed... which, for me, takes the entire game out of the game because social links make me cringe and all I care about is dungeon crawling. Unfortunately, of the SMT games, Persona generally has the weakest dungeon crawling -- small, auto-generated dungeon levels that have little character. For others, 'easy' means they can race past dungeons and get to the next hang out time.

I want to like it because I like the combat system and demon fusing, but fortunately I can get that in the other SMT games.

Sony sent me two more codes for the Destiny beta--one for PS4, one for PS3--so here they are:

Voucher Code for PS4: RR8R-HJN4-9NB8 Redeemed by MyWorstNightmare
Voucher Code for PS3: MDKL-LTNT-H76F Redeemed by Jenova502

Like before, post if you use them.

I just started looking for a Vita so I haven't been paying attention to any of the prices previously.  Are there any good deals coming up that anyone is aware of?  Is the picture on the older models that much better that I should look for one of those?

I've heard the new model is actually better by most people's judgement.

Appreciate everyone's input on Persona. Except for frisky, you asshole.

No, but, seriously. I'm glad to hear the other SMT games at least have a different take on dungeons. Once I make sense of which games are which (why the fuck is it so confusing?) I'll finally give one of the mainline entires a try. I have P3P, but it looks like I won't be playing it after what Reno said. And I'm okay with this.

Again, for those curious, P4G isn't difficult by any stretch. Putting it on easy (vs. Normal) just makes leveling go a lotttt faster so I can get back to what I enjoy most. That said, the dungeons STILL take a bit amount of time. Doesn't make them completely mindless.

One other note: Marie's poetry has to be the most awful shit I have ever heard in my life.

I have some Destiny beta codes to share. If anyone would like extra beta codes of their choosing, I have one Bungie code I have not redeemed yet for three beta codes (has to be for the same platform/region).

So each 9 digit code gives 3 beta codes? I guess I have 9 beta codes total. I have 3 PS4s, 3 PS3s, and an unredeemed set if anyone needs platform specific.

Edit: Nevermind, I went ahead and just redeemed the PS4 version.

Have fun.

Actually, the game is awesome and I highly recommend it. But hey, if you want to accuse people of bias by judging things you haven't played...

You'll be happy with either. I love my original, people love their newer models. People that have both seem split - it really depends on what you care about in your visuals. For example, some people can't handle the mura effect of oled, etc. I'd pick up whatever you can find without worrying too much about it.

The newer model does have some other nice features like a change in the power cord to something more common.

This is part of my post in this thread from earlier (#3910), reposting for you:

-----

Persona = Social Links, Press Turn System (turn based), Demon Fusing, random dungeons

Devil Summoner = Demon Fusing, Action Combat (youtube the easiest way to see what I mean)

Digital Devil Saga = No Demon Fusing / fixed party, Press Turn System (turn based), fixed dungeons

Nocturne = Demon Fusing, Press Turn System (turn based), fixed dungeons with puzzles

All share strong similarities in demons, spell lists, general combat mechanics.

I play them all on the hardest setting; I'd say Nocturne is by far the hardest.
