They're not. They've already done speed tests and the difference isn't anything to get excited about.
The tests I saw that were floating about around when the PS4 launched indicated 20-30% faster depending on what it was doing. Of course that's only 6-8 seconds for most things and I'm not paying more for a drive upgrade than for the system regardless.

I got this one from Amazon for $90 on Black Friday, after reading a couple articles. It's a hybrid (SSHD).

Too bad I won't get to test it for the next few weeks. Hopefully before Xmas.

I don't think so, Elds. I also received an email today, even though no messages were sent to me last time.

Either they're sending emails on batches or it happened again, this time, to different people.

Perhaps it has something to do with this? It doesn't mention Sony, but the email I use for PSN is a Gmail, so maybe Sony is playing it safe and resetting accounts with emails whose passwords could've been compromised?

I should mention that I received no alert from Google whatsoever, so it could have nothing to do with that. It's just a guess.
I received an email last week (but two days after everyone else was talking about it) and changed my password and got another one today. I did not receive an alert from Google but my PSN does not use my gmail address.

These fuckers better do something with security. I've changed passwords so such, I have to ask for a password reset every time because I can't remember any of them.

Is yours Yahoo, by any chance? Just trying to rule out the fact that this occurrence has anything to do with the malware hacks.

PlayStation 4 Hard Drive Speed Test Comparison

Everything I've seen was comparable to this and the only thing it really appeared to make a difference in was the boot time.

Buddy of mine just had to reset his and he uses Yahoo with his sign in, but I also use Yahoo and haven't had to do anything.... yet.

Hey, I just linked to that same article. :p

As for the password reset, maybe this had nothing to do with the recent hacks and Sony is rolling out the emails in batches, which would only make matters worse, considering it's been weeks since the first batch. Or maybe they managed to steal some SEN passwords using keyloggers and the news outlets aren't even aware of that yet/that information hasn't been disclosed to them.

The reason why Demon's Souls is great is because it starts you off below the bottom rung of the ladder. You are not some great, well known hero trying to turn the tide on an invading army of evil, you are a random dude (or gal) who enters a land nearly completely ravaged by evil.
I haven't played either Demon's or Dark Souls but this sounds like the setup for every RPG ever.

You people just made me re-download Demon's Souls after I deleted it awhile ago to make room for other shit because I hadn't played it yet. I hope you're proud of yourselves.
Playing Demon Soul's is like fucking Mila Kunis while she is eating an onion.
No, I can't help but think that I'd enjoy the latter WAY, WAY more. Especially if she dressed up like Meg Griffin.

Has psn forced anyone else to change their password?
yes.

new plat Hannah Montana in my collection.

damn u Jay :whistle2:x

Do you guys think the borderlands 2 season pass will go on sale soon through psn since borderlands 2 is going to be a free ps+ game. Been wanting to pick that up for a while but i know it's going to go on sale the day after i do.

Just rent the DLC pack. If it works like most DLC does, it'll install the DLC to your hard drive and you'll be good to go. No need to buy the season pass.

I got to the level 5 boss in Resogun last night and then lost. Hopefully I can beat it soon. When you get into a groove that game becomes so much fun. I booted up Assassin's Creed IV and played for about an hour. It's already fun and it's an amazing looking game but it's funny how it still feels exactly like AC quirks and all.

Tyler I am on your side. I also couldn't play demons souls. I wanted to like it. I loved the atmosphere, but I dont know why I would want to replay every level time and again. It took so long to get back to where you were when u died.

Yeah, I just did the same. Had a go at it when it first hit the IGC, but something didn't click with me. I mean, what's the appeal of repeatedly dying like that? :whistle2:( Anyway, will give it one last try in hopes that I, too, can relish the aroma of that sweet, sweet kunis onion.

And it looks as if this GT6 review embargo will run up until release . Hype levels currently at 0. I guess Sony figures the game will sell well regardless, but it's certainly not instilling much confidence in the wary.

I found it weird that Sony put a driving game in the IGC the same week their own franchise driving game was coming out.

As much as an SSD speeds up load times I just can't see it being worth the high cost. Between the $5 off $35 Facebook promo and another promo credit from something they lost it would work out to like $30. I just can't figure out what if any difference there is between the one I linked and the 7K1000 that you mentioned. The specs I can find make them appear to be the same but different model numbers.
SSD for PCs are amazing, it's night and day. But if the OS isn't optimized for a SSD (PS3 wasn't and I doubt PS4 is) the speed difference will be negligible.

Replaying the level over and over is like when you can't eat that onion, so you keep throwing it up and eating that over and over.

I had ordered it as well but cancelled it because it's only like 8GB of NAND (if I remember the specs sheet correctly). Unless you're loading the same 8GB of data over and over you're still running a 5400 RPM drive.

That and the life of the drive could be significantly shortened because of that.

Again, not buying an SSD for the PS4 regardless and this is why I'm looking at a 7200 RPM drive which should be a more consistent speed advantage over a standarad 5400 RPM drive if everything else is equal. Of course these manufacturer's make it as hard as possible to make direct comparisons and don't share all the relevant stats.

What! Really? I just assumed it was a 7200 RPM drive. Damn, even the one I got for my PS3 years ago is 7200 RPM. This is what I get for indulging in Black Friday frenzied shopping. :/

It's not too bad, a lot of the levels let you unlock shortcuts as you progress through the levels.

true. I always felt like it was a lot like monster hunter. It's worth looking up a "what i need to know before starting _____ guide" because some of the stuff just isn't that obvious. Also, it isn't that linear. Not always obvious where you're SUPPOSED to go. Especially in Dark Souls.

Don't I wish! I don't think anyone has perfected the voice recognition software/tech to come up with clean captions/subtitles. Look at YouTube's efforts...not quite so good.
very true. Just a matter of time though I hope. Seems like a pretty obvious next step in tech. Of course I'm sure people thought that when CC first poped up on tv's.

I kind of enjoyed that Rymdsalkdjlkesjsldaflkjasd game. Well, I've only played it once, but it was pretty fun. Although it does seem to take a long time to play. I went for 60+ minutes on my first try. Also, I really think this would be more fun on an iPad. Kind of tiny on a Vita screen.

What! Really? I just assumed it was a 7200 RPM drive. Damn, even the one I got for my PS3 years ago is 7200 RPM. This is what I get for indulging in Black Friday frenzied shopping. :/
Yeah, I ordered it and then looked up the specs since Amazon is pretty vague. It should still be a good drive but I didn't really want to pay $100 for it.

hey guys I was asleep and then working for a while what's going on in here
We've been having a Dinner of Onions leading to a trail of tears.

I am afraid to look at how much space is left on our 250 GB drive. I should have bought an Xbox One so I couldn't check even if I wanted to.

Demons\Dark souls are for people who have far more free time and patience than I.

The technology exists to let you save your game at any point, at any time. Have this in every game. I don't have time to wait for a checkpoint, or find a save spot. (Back to the town, so I can rest and save at the inn!)

I only have an hour or so to play each night. My time is limited and precious. Don't waste it.

The ironic thing about this post is the Souls games are constantly saving. They probably save more than any other game.

Comments like this are what lead to the tired saying that you don't like Demon Soul's because you don't understand it.

More often than not modern games are presented to a player as a ride, rather than as a challenge. And that's completely fine, some players play for the experience and some play for the challenge.

The most refreshing aspect of Demon's Souls brings back a sense that there is always something on the line for the player. Death actually means something in that game. The challenge, along with the unique online system, go hand-in-hand in setting the Souls series apart from most other modern games.

Anyone else get one of these today?

Dear valued customer,

The Sony Entertainment Network team routinely monitors for any irregular activity, and if such activity is detected, we may sometimes reset passwords of affected accounts to protect consumers and their account information. Your account password was recently reset as part of this process and you will need to create a new password the next time you access your account using the "Forgot Your Password" option on the Sign in screen.
Could not sign in on my PS3 so it was not spam - they definitely reset it. So I went on to the web site and did the "forgot your password" thing and they said they'd send an email to reset it - no email has come.

I'm not sure what triggered this. I was on my PS3 and PS4 late last night and have only bought one thing over the last several weeks and I got a confirmation for that (and not for anything else - would have, I think, if someone got my password and bought lots of stuff).

EDIT: Hah, I missed it amongst the Demon's Souls talk but now I see I'm not the only one. Still - they need to send me that email. I've "reset" twice now and no email. No PSN for me.

Dangs playing through TLOU right now. How da heck do people even have the patience to Plat the game. Don't get me wrong, its a great game, but I just wouldn't be able to beat it in survivor or whatever the hardest difficulty is.

Got ni no kuni. Finally got the notification that my hard drive was full. Didn't think I'd ever fill 700+ GB. Time to ho through some game data...
I'm about 40GBs away from filling up my 750 I just put in. Guess I should have sprang for the TB.

It seems we can't go more than a few weeks without a Demons/Dark Souls circle jerk.
It's odd because the XBL thread just got finished bashing Dark Souls when it was on sale last week.

Once you've played through on normal or hard and know where the choke points are (stalkers in sewers, what?), it's not too hard on survivor. You have to stealth, sure, but that's not hard. Just a bit slower than shooting. You can avoid a lot of encounters entirely by running and hiding as enemies walk past you. When the patrol shows up over the bus near the checkpoint for example. Run right, hide, move behind them slowly, climb up and over bus. Or in the Capitol. You can just bolt for the door once you're close to the end and avoid 4-6 enemies.

The few times you shoot you need to hit heads or you'll end up out of bullets for long stretches. I'd usually replay an area rather than use up ammo. And if I did use ammo, it would be after hitting someone with a bottle and grabbing them so I could take time lining up head shots on other guys.

Finally, if you reach a section that you can't figure out how to stealth -- use the bow! It's your best friend. One shot kills and recoverable ammo. Start the section, use the bow when you get stuck and can't bottle or stealth grab, and restart if your arrows break. And never ever use shivs on clickers. Save them for doors so you can get pills and parts.

Reset email came to me in 10 minutes, they are pretty slow in this regard, most websites send reset emails instantly.
