Shout out to all the Vita owners in here..Tearaway - $20 @ GS next week.

Bumping this for obvious reasons. :bouncy: Totally worth it (especially at this price).

Seriously, you guys wouldn't shed tears over Nintendo being reduced to Sega status? You must be either too young to care, Genesis kids, or have a heart made of hard stone. Mario on Playstation? Zelda on Xbox? My childhood weeps for thee.
I don't understand this funky ass schadenfreude people possess towards Nintendo. Nevermind that most of us grew up on them or that they practically invented the modern day console business. What about the thousands of jobs that'd be lost? I think we've neared a point (if it isn't passed already) where we can safely declare the Wii U an absolute failure, and that deeply saddens me. They made some terrible hardware gambles, but I wouldn't say they've abandoned the hardcore. Wanting to include an audience who enjoys more than cars, soccer and gunz isn't abandonment.

Yes, they need to step up their game, especially as it relates to embracing the internet. I don't know that I want something akin to an achievement system, but I'd love to be able to share my activity with others. So, I definitely get why some of you are hesitant to jump in. Miiverse just ain't cutting it, and it's even more laughable on 3DS :whistle2:( . Still, to my original reply to @captaintek, there's something very refreshing about turning on a device...and simply playing games. No updates; no patches; no system freezing; no... "synchronizing trophies".

Even our Windwaker Wii U required a system update in order to get to the online store (for example, in order to download Windwaker) and to add other features. I wasn't entirely surprised by this, but then again I suppose I should have been. Why don't they already include the required updates in the box since this isn't a day one model? Weird. In any case this seems to be par for the course now. I'm glad I got it out of the way so Xmas day fun can get started right away.

I usually never buy sports game digitally because they always come up with a new version every year. $15 (PS Plus discounted) is pretty cheap for a sports games in its mid-season. Then again, NHL 94 is included. Decisions, Decisions.

I'm going to pass on NHL. I suck at sports game. Mostly I have a problem with passing to a player and moving in the opposite direction. I just keep going the same direction. It's like rubbing belly/patting head. Which I can do, actually, but not this sports game stuff.

I seem to remember some monster of a patch day on on the WiiU :booty:

Hahaha, no, you guys are totally right. I'm just saying, aside from the initial setup, playing games on my 3DS, at least, is very seamless. I started BF4 last night and I almost gave in because of the time it took to download and install yet another patch. I'm not faulting Sony for that, but it is annoying nonetheless. And, then, before I even get to the main screen...it needs to "synchronize my trophies", which took even more time. Sometimes, I just want to play. Still, I'd rather have all the features that come with Playstation, so it's if that's what's required I'll deal. I just don't think we should fault Nintendo for approaching their consoles differently. They almost never fail or overheat, and you can play games on them instantaneously. Yes, they do almost nothing else, lol, but you can't deny the charm in that.

Not sure if it helps or not, but it gives you the option to use NHL '94 controls in all game modes. That means two buttons. Pass. Shoot.

I'm glad I grabbed it last night as I had a blast. Missed playing hockey games. The "Be A Pro" mode is addicting.

...no gaemz.

I kid, of course. Lots of delicious looking console exclusives. But third party support is just an absolute killer for me. And I agree with most of what you said. And I harbor no ill will towards Nintendo, it's executives, employees, or anyone else. I just want to play Nintendo games on a console I own. So Nintendo getting out of the console market would be a good thing for me.

I'm interested to see that you're almost ready to call the WiiU a "failure" already. I'm not at that point yet, but it's getting closer. I think it goes down in history almost exactly like the GameCube. Good piece of hardware with a handful of great exclusive games. But I can easily see the WiiU doing about 30 million lifetime sales compared to PS4/Xbone doing about 150 million each.

Not arguing your point at all, just furthering my point that the lack of third party support is such a big deal...no matter how much a pain in the ass it is to get BF4 going on the PS3 or PS4, you're still going to have a hell of a lot harder time to get it going on the WiiU.

It's like the people who long for the days of SNES games that didn't have patches.  There is a reason there are so many patches and shit, because games are ridiculously more complex nowadays.  You can't have both.

Just so you know, it's not the actual NHL '94 game that's included. It's "NHL 94 mode." Basically you get old controls, true top-down view, blue ice, and organ music. No old rosters. No pixel players.

http://www.easports.com/nhl/news-updates-gameplay/article/nhl-14-nhl-94-anniversary-mode-revealed

That said, it's still pretty fun to play that way again.

Being able to patch and update games is one of the biggest gaming revolutions from the last generation in my opinion. It's obviously been abused by developers releasing games before they're ready, but when used correctly, it's an amazing way for devs to fix problems and add and change content.

I like Nintendo, but they are still living in their own little bubble for the most part and I can't see them ever coming out of it. I'll buy a WiiU for the first party games, but for now there's not enough compelling software there for me to rationalize a purchase.

Don't really care about 3rd party support, since the main reason why I buy a console are for the exclusives, and for Nintendo that primarily means Nintendo games.

Also, do you guys realize that Nintendo build consoles for their games? If they ever stop building consoles, they are probably going to stop building games as well.

Speaking of the Wii U, people thought the 3DS was going to be a failure. While I don't expect the Wii U to be near the success as the 3DS, we are still a ways from calling the Wii U a failure.

There is good and bad to that. The good is that it makes them more creative over their competitors. The bad is not learning the lessons of mistakes their competitors made years ago. Personally, I'm willing to put up with some of the latter for the benefits of the former.

Unfortunately the consoles they've been building lately have been gimped by bad gimmicks, and yes I include the original Wii in that. Nintendo seems to believe that they need to somehow differentiate themselves from the competition at all costs. So they cobble in gimmicks with all their hardware (for the last decade or so), to do that.

Unfortunately gamers are stuck with those gimmicks, whether they like them or not. Nintendo basically requires you to buy into their hardware philosophy, no matter how questionable or ill-conceived their "innovations" end up being. For me, the Wii was a huge disappointment; the waggle controls ruined most of the games, and the console was far behind its competition. Sure it sold well as a fad, but that fad burned out pretty fast.

Now they've done it again with the Wii U; added another gimmick, and scaled the actual console way back, making it far behind its competition (and even unable to match the 7-year+ old previous gen systems, in many cross-plat games). That technique of adding in some kind of cheap "hook" to try to reel people in, has been a disaster for them for a while now.

When Nintendo gets back to basics, i.e. just producing a decent, solid piece of hardware without gimmicks, I'll be interested; but for now, there really is no reason for me to consider a Wii U. Such a huge disappointment.

New PS4 Owner here...

Besides Resogun and Contrast, any other PSN stuff I should buy?  I have $10 to spend!!  Sort of disappointed that I can not track the PS+ sales through the PS4 store...

Don't you have PS+? All that stuff happens while you sleep.
Fair point. It's just that I share the console with my girlfriend so I disabled the automatic PS+ stuff since it always logs in under my account when turned on. I know it seems silly, but I hate when people think I've ignored their game invites or messages while she watches netflix or something. And on the off chance she plays a game, I'm terrified something will get deleted or ruined. I've asked her several times to simply log out but it is a lost cause. I really hope the PS4 doesn't do the same thing.

It's like the people who long for the days of SNES games that didn't have patches. There is a reason there are so many patches and shit, because games are ridiculously more complex nowadays. You can't have both.
I'd much rather have the patches than be stuck with a broken game, so I agree with you. I was only trying to explain why Nintendo might not be as enthusiastic about providing a more complex experience. With that complexity comes a slew of issues. They've always had incredibly polished software and hardware (hello, "Nintendo Seal of Approval"). There business depends on providing things that just work. That shouldn't be simply dismissed as "behind the times".

I'm obviously not hoping it fails, but the current numbers are abysmal and seem irreversible. The combined sales of PS4 and Xbox have already outpaced it in a little over two weeks. Hell, the vita is doing better. And I never assumed the 3DS would fail, it was just too expensive. The Wii U needs more than a price cut.

To be honest, I feel the same about the PS4 and the XBone. I see nothing hardwarewise that makes it stand out from the previous generation, outside of more power. To be honest, if I want more power, I'll get it from my PC with games ultimately at a cheaper price point than any console. I don't see myself buying either for at least a couple of years, if ever. That would require some game I really need to play that isn't available elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Wii U can take the spot of my Wii, and there are games I know that are coming out within the year that I'd like to play.

Nintendo at least tries to push the envelope with how you play games, which I don't see from Sony or Microsoft. No, not everyone likes it, but that generally happens when you get people out of their comfort zone. Personally, I liked the Wiimote/nunchuk combo. Motion controls were sometimes a mixed bag, but that is to be expected for a 1st generation product. I liked that they haven't tossed it, but have also given more control options.

The Wii U needs more than a price cut.
What it needs is games, which are coming in the next year. 3DS had a similar problem. Nintendo hasn't quite licked the problem of getting games out in a timely manner and having them spaced out well.

Furmins will be out for Vita on 12/17. It seems to be a puzzle game in the vein of Feed Me Oil where you set up obstacles to get the Furmins to the goal with physics. It's apparently made by Housemarque (Super Stardust HD, Dead Nation, Resogun).

The free PS Mobile games for this week are Super Crate Box and Fuel Tiracas, so get them or be like Eldritch and miss out.

Is Quantum Conundrum any good? I scanned the Wikipedia article and it sounds like it could be fun, but it sounds like it could also be really irritating.

Edit: Nevermind. I just went to sort the game into a folder, and just resting on the game caused the Presidents of the United States of America to start playing a song written just for the game. This game could suck horribly and I'd play it.

I've failed to mention that another reason I don't want a 3DS, is because it's core feature (!) gives me a whopper of a headache after about 10 minutes. Same reason I never use the 3D feature on my TV.

But I would never want Nintendo to go out of business or be less successful. At the same time, I honestly do wish they would pull a Sega and go games only at some point. Nintendo seems to be the best company when it comes to first party support, which shows the amazing caliber of their game development teams. However, their hardware since the N64 days is hit or miss. With me at least.

Do you need to be a fan of the anime, to enjoy the One Piece warriors game? I know it doesnt hurt, but i do love me some mindless hack and slash time to time, especially Dynasty Warriors series.

The game is fun but frustrating at times. Kind of like Portal.

The visual style is fun (especially looking at things once you shift universes), the voice work is Q for STTNG and the song is the best. I listen to the song more than I play the game. If only I could buy the mp3 on Amazon.

I just booted up the digital Borderlands 2, and to my surprise it still needed to download the patch to version 1.10. I'm surprised because I've had the disc version active and all the patches have downloaded automatically / should already be on my system. Wouldn't both the disc and digital draw from the same data install in terms of patches and updates?

The compatibility thread for disc to digital doesn't confirm Borderlands 2 so not sure about save compatibility, but it would be extra odd if the save games work but the patch had to be downloaded twice.

Also... endlessly annoyed that the version you download is not the most current version (5+GB download for the game, and THEN another 590MB for the patch upon boot) but I know it has to do with the way games are certified for PSN.

EDIT: Can confirm disc saves work, have updated the Wiki compatibility thread.

And it happened back then even. I still remember downloading a Day 1 patch over a 14.4 dial up connection for Pocky and Rocky. They had to patch poor Pocky in after the fact.

Not as good as dynasty warriors/Orochi/Samurai Warriors but it's still fun to play with different cast of characters.

Sweet. I asked the question on the PS Blog but forgot to check back for an answer.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what the hell Q for STTNG is?

I was always a huge Nintendo fan but they have lost their way to an extent. I always praised them for doing their own thing but as each generation has gone by they are now doing their own thing in their own bubble. Should they copy everyone else? No! They have good ideas like Miiverse but our incumbered by their own hesitation with everything. If you look up any sort of online gaming history you'll find out that Nintendo was "toying" with the idea long before Microsoft came along but they never pulled the trigger. I understand they want to be "kid friendly" and avoid the trappings that come along with online gaming but the truth is we are living in an age where kids know how to unlock an iphone before the age of 2.

do they ever have  Major christmas sales or was that  hoilday thing the biggest thing we will see for the rest of the year.

Thinking about buying  FATE for the VITA but dont want to pay 10 if it be on sale for  5  soon  :)

The Holiday Sale will keep going for probably another two weeks. The likelihood of a permanent price drop going on sale that soon ever isn't likely, though I'd suggest waiting until the final week to be safe if you're that concerned about it.

Vlambeer and Rami Ismail are awesome! I never thought I'd make a profit by buying Super Crate Box. LOL. Rami promised me a refund if it went for free within a few months. Well Vlambeer just apologized to me and gave me a 5 Euro refund. That worked out to $5.98. I only paid $3.49, I think it was. And yes it is a fun game and you should definitely download it while it's free, or even after once it is not. :)

Hell Q showed up in a couple of different series didn't he?

@Nintendo Discussion, If anyone will recall the DS Phat was considered an abysmal failure as well.  It literally had 8 months between launch and the next group of games.  I thought they'd learn with the 3DS ... then I figured they MUST have learned by the WiiU.  Nintendo enjoys kicking me in the nuts.  It must.. otherwise why else would they continue on their merry little way?  No gaming company would be this blissfully unaware.  They're just straight up lucky my grandfather knows what a Wii "doo hickie" is.

Debating paying full price (shiver) for Ys I & II and Felghana to play before I open this Memories of Celceta... anyone have opinions?  It's $15 per so $30.  It ain't the half price they were last week but they never go on sale.

@Star Trek

You gotta watch TNG 1-4 (I personally think the later NextGen season arcs kinda went downhill at that point).. then jump into DS9... DS9's first couple of seasons were snorefests.  Once the Dominion and Klingon's come it.. it's pretty bad ass.  They also do some cross over shows.  Voyager also, IMO, had a pretty meh first season.
