Demon's Souls is coming to PSN next week for $19.99:
Celebrate With ATLUS By Experiencing a Pure White World Tendency Event from 1/8 - 1/14

ATLUS, the video game publishing brand of Index Digital Media, Inc., today announced that Demon's Souls, the award-winning action RPG for PlayStation®3 (PS3) Computer Entertainment System, will be coming in downloadable form to the PlayStation®Network (PSN) on 1/8/13 for $19.99.

To celebrate the release of Demon's Souls on PSN, ATLUS is hosting a World Tendency Event for one week starting on 1/8/13 and ending on 1/14/13, setting the servers to Pure White. For those that haven't played the game (or simply need a refresher), Pure White Tendency brings a number of changes to the game. For one, the game will be adjusted to an easier difficulty setting, where enemies will have decreased HP, attack power, and defense, while players will inflict more damage when attacking. Pure White Tendency is a rare occurance in the game so this is a great way for newcomers to learn the gameplay and immerse themselves in the world of Demon's Souls. Additionally, enemies will drop fewer upgrade stones and more healing items. New areas and special NPCs will also be open; players just need to know where to find them.

For the game's original launch on PS3, Demon's Souls earned GameSpot's "Game of the Year" award, along with "Best PS3 RPG" from IGN, and "Best RPG" and "Best New IP" from GameTrailers.com. The title received critical praise from top media:

"If you like RPGs in general, you'll find one of the better, most challenging quests of your life" - 1UP (A)

"One of the first truly great Japanese RPGs of this generation, and certainly the most remarkable." - Game Informer (9/10)

"Hands-down one of the most unique and rewarding games you'll ever play." - IGN (9.4/10)

Demon's Souls brings revolutionary online features support with seamless interconnectivity to enhance the single-player game. Team up with two other players in simultaneous cooperative play, working together to topple some of the game's colossal bosses, or force your way into the games of skilled players and challenge them to PvP battle. Leave hints and clues for those who will follow in your footsteps; either intentionally or through your own inadvertent demise, your bloodstains will allow your successors to view a replay of your death, hinting at how to avoid your gruesome fate. Unprecedented in its depth and subtlety, peerless in its relentlessly challenging gameplay, Demon's Souls is the ultimate action RPG.

About Demon's Souls
King Allant the XII, the last king of Boletaria, searched tirelessly to expand his might. The Nexus, a great ice shrine nestled in the mountains, bestowed the power of the souls onto him, bringing prosperity to his kingdom. Still unsated, he returned again to the Nexus, where he foolishly awakened the Old One from its eternal slumber. This long forgotten evil, now wrought upon Boletaria, plunged the realm into darkness and fog. A mighty demon horde poured into the kingdom, devouring the souls of men.

Champions from other realms learned of Boletaria's fate and sought to deliver the kingdom from evil; none would return from the cursed land. Called upon by a mysterious maiden in black, you go forth, the last hope for humanity in a place lost to demons and darkness...

that's a lil rough. you can get dark souls for that price can't ya?
im not complaining, i love that game so much, but for a game that is heavily invested with multiplayer elements and twice they have said they are shutting down only to keep the servers going... hopefully this means they will keep the servers on longer. id love to start over and go noob hunting ;)

Last night four titles from the current Instant Game Collection reverted to trial status for me, (Payday, DD:Neon, Dungeon Defenders, and Scot Pilgrim). My PS+ is active so it wasn't that big of a deal as they are all still currently offered so I was able to just re download the unlock for the full game for each. Still, it was annoying. Anybody else ever have this happen?

They plan to keep the servers up indefinitely. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/01/03/download-demons-souls-on-psn-tuesday/#comment-797490

i got plus primary for the discounts. i'm going to stop downloading the free games i want to buy later on because plus won't let you buy previous free games you downloaded when they are discounted later on. damn i'm pissed i couldn't buy some discounted games because i already got them for "free."
Demon Souls coming next week for $20.
Best Ps3 exclusive IMO.
I don't mean to be a prick but how is this good news at the PSN US Blog?
Since a long time ago you can buy a physical copy of this game (brand new) for $19.99 or much less at Amazon and other retailers. The PSN managers may think that we are stupid or that we live in a bubble and isolated from the rest of the world.

Why wouldn't the digital release of a beloved game be good news? More people will have access to it now, especially those that were on the fence and could never pull the trigger on a physical copy. The price is Atlus' decision to make, not the people running the PS Store, so wait for the next round of Atlus sales later this year if you want it for cheaper than that.

indefinately! that is most awesome. i havnt even played in forever but i always got disheartened when they would announce closing the servers. I hate game like lotr conquest where 1/2 the games trophies/and gameplay is never to be experienced again. that is most awesome tho. hopefully this will bring more players to the game, ps+ freebie would be great, but 20 is still awesome and to have it on the system all the time is a convenience ;)

With the Pure White world I might have to start playing my copy finally. Sounds like it will be a little easier to get a grip on out of the gate. I know some love the unrelenting difficulty but I won't mind a little relief to get going first.

Been trying to play Chronovolt. I give up with this game. The camera is bloody terrible. Wouldn't be so bad if they would patch it.

XSEED needs to have a PSN sale. >_>

I love everything about Demon's Souls, the only think I hate about that announcement is that ridiculous price tag. I still have my physical copy (next to my Dark Souls CE), being one of the few games I haven't sale, gift or trade, so I will wait until it gets free as part of the IGC, my plus ends on Aug 2014 so time is at my side.
And sorry but my tiny winy brain still don't process that part of prefering owning digital over physical copies of the same video game.

Even in Pure White world tendency there will be plenty deaths. I remember when I experienced Pure Black and I died way more. Just don't give up and summon people when you need help. The Demon Souls Wiki will also be a big help.

$19.99 is the MSRP, which is usually where digital prices start.

I have a physical copy of Demon's Souls, but if it ever goes on sale, I'll pick it up and give my physical copy away. fucking great game.
Been trying to play Chronovolt. I give up with this game. The camera is bloody terrible. Wouldn't be so bad if they would patch it.
I've had basically zero problems with the camera. It controls perfectly fine for me. The only minor irritant is that sometimes other parts of the level block the view for a second, but they quickly fade out.

I think Chronovolt got a bum rap. Sure, it's a little derivative and a little light on content, but it does only cost $5 regularly and I'd easily give it a 7/10.
i've yet to see the pull n go in person. is the mini case large enough to hold the vita and any set of grips? i've had my eye open for a smallish case that'll fit grips as well - darn my massive hands.
I've seen it in store at Gamestop and Frys. Both had them for $20 when I looked.

As for ones that will fit the grip...The Sony carrying case is open on the sides and bottom so maybe that's a possibility? The open design won't offer complete protection but might allow you to use both the grip and the case at the same time.

The Sony travel pouch is another possibility. It has a second pocket for accessories so maybe the grip will fit in there?

Recently got a ps3 (for GTA5, Dust514), and a Vita (for travel), havnt really bought anything console related for six?+ years. Im primarely a PC gamer, i buy a lot of games, i play a lot of games. When both of my purchasing options are digital (ps3/v or pc) its so hard justifying buying anything on PSN when all of the same games on PC (usually more optimized) are so much cheaper.

Anyone have a good reason to buy digital on psn, besides playing on the big screen? Which I can do anyway, with an xbox/ps3 controller and hdmi cord from my PC.

Well it's going to come down to preferences and whatever floats your boat. Some games like Sine Mora has extra content on the PS3 and naturally you can play with other people on the PSN, but thats it.

I got Lumines for about $15 or $20 on the Qubed disc for 360, meaning I got not only 2 extra games, but I got some of the Lumines DLC as well. Despite being a fun game, it feels hard to recommend at $20, let alone the original $40, for another version. I'd honestly wait to see if it goes to $15 or even $10.

Agreed. I wanna pick up Ys 7 and maybe Lunar.

Download the demo.

Thanks Frisky. Will probably grab Eufloria for $2.50 and force myself to understand the game.

Interesting that they're giving us discounts on a lot of the games EU got for free (Arkham City, Bulletstorm, and now MK Vita). Guess we won't be getting any of those.

I don't see / recall anything leaving, so it just means they didn't announce the price.

It's not that hard to understand if you've played games like Mushroom Wars, Galcon, and, I believe, Planets Under Attack. It's basically like those with a cooler art style, more types of units, and sometimes you have to deal with fog of war.
Does this mean MK Vita is free next week?
No, it wouldn't be listed under Deals if that were the case. It would under the PS+ Games list with the God of War Ascension Beta.

While I would agree that for most people, 20 is a bit much for a game like Lumines (or Tetris for that matter), Electronic Symphony blows the XBLA/PSN versions away.

Aside from the XP system replacing the old unlock system (which sounds like a better method to motivate people to replay) & avatars giving you certain powers, what's all the new content in the Vita version? I've been waiting for it to be discounted since I liked the XBLA version, but wanted to wait for it to get lower in price.

OH, there's a demo. Surprised I didn't see that earlier. I'll give that a try.

The Vita Travel Pouch will not hold either the grips made by CTA or the grips made by PDP. I got both for christmas -- for the record, i prefer the pdp ones because they replace the triggers with actual 'triggers'. the CTA ones don't cover/change the Vita's natural triggers. Both are better than a Vita w/o a grip, imo, in terms of long term comfort.
It's not that hard to understand if you've played games like Mushroom Wars, Galcon, and, I believe, Planets Under Attack. It's basically like those with a cooler art style, more types of units, and sometimes you have to deal with fog of war..
Unfortunately I haven't played any of those. I tried to understand Eufloria last time it was on sale, I downloaded the demo and just couldn't fully comprehend what I was trying to do. Maybe I'm just not very bright...

Also, I'm hoping we get a 13 for '13 sale in January, like they've done in previous years. Not trying to sound greedy, Sony has done a great job bringing the sales!

I am still waiting for some of those PS2 classic Barbie games.
I am looking forward to another Atlus sale. Hopefully they will have the Persona series on sale again. I missed out on the last one because I didn't have a Vita at the time. A $10 Catherine wouldn't be bad either. :D

I'd looked at the PDP ones online, but haven't found them locally to try out. Reviews say they aren't great for big hands - what's your experience been?

What I wouldn't give to see Atlus port Catherine and P3:FES (among others) to Vita.

I have found the PDPs at Gamestop and Best Buy if that helps you out.

I had the PDP grips for a little while, the triggers are nice, but my hands still cramped up after 10 minutes or so. (I wear size large gloves– not XL). I ended up getting the Hori grips and now I can play until my battery runs out.

As far as a case to hold the Vita with grips, I used a sock for a little while then I remembered I had a Crown Royal bag in the garage. It works great until something better is released.

Did you renew your sub since those games were first offered?
Yes, I had renewed since they were first offered. So far all of the other games that in the IGC that I've checked are fine and haven't reverted to a trial status. As far as I can tell, it appears to have just been those four games that changed. Although I found it strange, all are back to normal now so it's not really a big deal.
