Wario64 reporting that GameStop sent memo to stores that Sony digital games will no longer be available for purchase in stores effective April 1st

I wish there was a way to make those 20% codes work on preorders. I would pay the extra 20 to get the better Mortal Kombat 11 to get Shang Tsung as DLC, but I can't stomach paying an extra 40 bucks for 6 characters (and that's probably just "pack 1"). I could buy another whole game for that!

I think I have decided finally though that I'm gonna skip DMC 5 for now and go with Sekiro and EDF 5.
Just do as I do and wait for the GotY edition to go on sale. As shown with Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat X, Injustice and Injustice 2, these guys love to put out GotY Editions that include every character. Then it's just a matter of waiting until Black Friday and you can get the game, plus all DLC characters, for about $20 total. And on disc, to boot.

I just looked at the Drop for next week, and there are a ridiculous number of RPGs coming out - Trails of Cold Steel, Nelke & The Legendary Alchemists, Outward, Path of Exile, and Siralim  3, all for PS4.  There's also the Grim Dawn expansion and Grimshade on PC, and Operencia on PC/Xbox.  I've seen clusters of RPG releases before, but I don't think I've ever seen a week this packed.

https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/playstation-stops-offering-game-codes-retailers/

In a memo sent to GameStop stores, Sony explained that after April 1, retailers will no longer be able to sell game download codes for PlayStation systems. Though the memo was sent to GameStop, it emphasized that all retailers would be affected by this. Stores like Humble and Green Man Gaming have offered discounts on full game downloads in the past, and will apparently not be able to do so anymore.
So less chance of getting discounted PSN content in the future? fucking wonderful. At least we have those 20% off codes Sony generously gives us every so often.

Damn, I counted a total of 30 new releases next week, including 6 PSVR titles. I'll admit I'm curious what Angry Birds VR looks like.

Buying a code for a digital game from Gamestop is something I would never do. If I ever did want to buy a game digitally through Gamestop I would buy enough PSN credit from them, then I would buy the game on PSN with that credit. That way I get rewards points at Gamestop and Sony Rewards. Redeeming a code for a game won't get you Sony Rewards points.

This will suck for those Humble Bundle bundles. I guess those are going to end.

Actually, many years ago I did buy a digital code for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game from Gamestop. The game was de-listed on the Xbox 360 store, but Gamestop still had some digital codes.

Sony is going to start their own streaming game service, as well as announce a new slew of games and maybe a new console on Monday.

I like how you basically gave a good reason for the existence of digital codes by the time you were done.

Couple of things:
1) This is all retailers, not just GameStop.
2) PSN STILL has no gifting system (unlike the competition) so this remains the only way to gift digital games.
3) A number of people still don't trust Sony with their card info, and don't like buying more credit than they need, or end up buying too little because of tax.
4) Places like Best Buy don't let you spend GCs on PSN cards, but do let you spend them on digital games.
5) Ultimately, this gives Sony a stronger monopoly meaning worse discounts.

This might not be the death of PSN Humble Bundles (for charity) since they're limited and I'm 99% sure Sony needed to specifically sign off on each of those anyway. I can see them treating those as special cases as opposed to constantly losing "potential revenue" to retailers.

I'm going to do that before part 2. Uncharted and the last of us are the most overrated games in my opinion.
I wouldn't consider the Uncharted series to be overrated, they are the first games I recommend to anyone with a system and I'm often at a loss why someone would own a PS3/4 without having them.

And that justifies them removing options for people to buy digital games at their retailer of choice?

Um, no. Another ridiculous move by Sony who really doesn’t seem to be “for the players”.

I can’t even remember the last time they gave us a 20% off code. Think it may have been over a year ago. Only ones people have been getting is if they buy a new console.

Anyone have problems logging on the PlayStation.com website? I’m trying to claim the free MlB theme and when I log in nothing changes? I’m able to log on to the app fine and make
purchase through there.

True, but that's a lot of waiting though.
I decided to pick up MK 11 with the target b2g1 preorder and redcard for $40. I suspect that I will trade it in at GS after playing for almost a month and wait to rebuy a discounted goty down the road.

This strategy has worked well for me lately. Between promos and the guaranteed $30 I seem to either get a couple dollar monthly rental or make money...games such as GoW, RE2, Metro Exodus,
etc

Anyone have problems logging on the PlayStation.com website? I’m trying to claim the free MlB theme and when I log in nothing changes? I’m able to log on to the app fine and make
purchase through there.
Yeah, it’s super buggy. I had to manually enter the codes and then turn my iPad vertically (didn’t work on my phone) .

Also means if a title is removed from PSN without any warning due to a license expiring, there won't be any other place you can buy it from quickly before they run out of codes.

Can Kaz and House please come out of retirement?  Ryan and Layden are really making some poor decisions over there.

Side note on Emerald Shores, the game made by fellow CAG Josh1billion. I got the platinum last night, and the game is actually quite fun, definitely much better than the 4/10 review score CornShack gave it.  Going for the low level run trophy, I attempted the final boss at level 6 and couldn't get it done.  Luckily, this was on my 3rd play through so I hadn't done some of the side levels yet and was able to go and level to 7 which was just enough to beat him.  Side note, 1-3 is super frustrating and might be the hardest level in the game.

Looking at Senran Kagura Estival Vs and Peach Beach Splash.  Not sure I am going to pick up both right now but will probably get one.  For anyone who has played these titles, any recommendations on which one to start with?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Frisky has Neurovoider listed as crossbuy but can anyone confirm that it is? It’s not listed in the description as crossbuy on the PSN store page and folks on reddit say it is not.

It's not cross-buy. I bought the PS4 version in June of last year.

Wasn't a fan of the game TBH. It has a really drab and boring art style.

As far as twin stick rogue likes go it's probably my least favorite. I much prefer The Binding of Isaac, Neon Chrome, Enter the Gungeon, and Nuclear Throne (bugs and all).

Well, they're two different types of games. PBS is more of a third-person shooter, while Estival Versus is more of an arena-style hack'em up game. Bunch of mooks come at you in great numbers, you slash them all away and then take on their boss. I own both, but have only played Estival Versus so far.

Estival Versus was a mixed bag for me. On the plus side, you've got a bunch of cute girls that you can battle until they're completely naked, plus the storylines are pretty funny and for such a huge cast of characters, they all seem to have their own distinct personalities. On the negative side, I was majorly taken aback when I found out that there was no English dub (despite the anime having one), it got to be incredibly irritating the way they made adult-age girls act like five-year-old children most of the time, and because the game is very long and the gameplay itself was so repetitive, that I was just counting down how long until I could be done with it before I was even 75% of the way done.

Also, none of the DLC characters matter or add to the game at all since they don't add any extra storylines with them. When you play through the each of the stages the first time, the game chooses who you play as. You can go back and play the stage as many times over as you wish with a different character, but why would you unless you missed a collectable the first time around?

All in all, I'm glad that I played it, and enjoyed it for the most part, and will likely get Re:Burst when the price gets low enough. However, by the time I was done with it, I was so burned out on it that I was just happy it was over.

I haven't played Estivel Versus yet but I did play Neptunia Action Unleashed which is from the same developer and has basically all the same systems/mechanics and this is more or less how I felt about that game as well.

It didn't really have the depth or the variety to keep itself entertaining for how long it was, but, it was great as a game to play when I was just watching some youtube/listening to a podcast or whatever.

Are they completely naked? The ESRB rating only mentions partial nudity. Anyway, maybe ackbar7 can shed some light on Peach Beach Splash. I'll admit I've been interested ever since that Devil May Cry 5 censorship discussion.

I've also been looking into the Gal*Gun games: should I get 1 or 2 or both? Asking for a lonely guy.

Didn't play much Peach Beach Splash yet. Pretty much what has been described here only as a meh 3rd person shooter. The hack and slash, I'd guess, is a little better in terms of gameplay. There is a VR piece to PBS that I haven't tried yet, that I think has you groping at the various characters from the game.

The characters are completely naked, but you're not going to see any of the good stuff because they do use glowing balls of light to cover all the naughty bits. One character describes it in-game as being some kind of special shinobi magic that automatically activates to protect their modesty.

I hear Gal*Gun 1 is supposed to be the better of the two. At least Gal*Gun 2 doesn't have an $80 piece of DLC to put all the girls in their panties like the first game does.

Dead Island is pretty dated honestly. I tried the remastered versions maybe a year or two ago, and it just is kind of clunky and a bit boring. The story and characters are very poor though it was cool when it came out because not many zombie games were out at the time. I'm almost 100% sure Dying Light is the way to go for the zombie games. It's average and would likely pick it up for like $2-3 each game.

Are Dreamfall Chapters and Dead Island any good?
I actually backed Dreamfall Chapters on Kickstarter because I really got into the storyline for Dreamfall: The Longest Journey when I played it back on my original XBox. I’ve played Chapters all the way to completion and really liked it, but I’ll add this caveat to saying that: if you go into it knowing that it’s pretty much a point-and-click adventure game with an enjoyable story that may require you to check a walkthrough guide from time to time, it’s well worth the price. If I remember right, it took me about 15 hours to complete.

You don’t really need to have played either of the first two games to enjoy it, either. The game shows you a recap video at the start to help make sense of some things for you - but checking YouTube or reading up a tiny bit may help some in that regard, too.

I hadn't heard of Operencia before your post but it looks like something I'd like since I love the Legend of Grimrock games and the old school ones that inspired it. On vacation from work next week but still won't have enough time for everything I want to play.

I picked up Emerald Shores (gotta support a fellow CAG) and Song of the Deep. Still thinking about getting Dirt 4 and will be picking up my pre-order of MLB The Show 19 MVP Edition at GS soon.

Here is 20% off code for Ubisoft store online. I was thinking of getting The Division 2 for $48 but the shipping is too much for me. It expires tomorrow. Hope someone use it. God bless you!
