That's good to hear since I heard about too many crazy deals from Steam. I know a lot of people that have a 100+ Steam backlog plus all other consoles. I already told myself never to look into STEAM cause I know I will lose the war of a backlog. Finally finished Soul Sacrifice this weekend and got the platinum. Glad I got control of my backlog at the moment. As we all know that can change at any minute. Haha
I'm one of those 100+ people too haha. I think I have 130 something now. That's why I'm not even thinking about ps4 yet. But I'm locking down hard on my digital purchases now so I can slowly get through my backlog.

But yeah if you want to maintain your backlog, stay away from Steam like a plague.

I let one of my friends take my launch day PS4 bundle from Amazon. What the hell was I thinking of ordering this console? Oh yeah I love games. People told me to sell it for profit but my friend wanted one and missed the pre-order deadline. I'll get a PS4 eventually but I really need to get the backlog down.

I'm going to stay away from STEAM cause I know it can get out of control quick with so many deals.

i'm fighting off the Stealth urge.  though i want it.

been playing Riveria.  it's... interesting.   bite size 'scenes', often with 2-3 battles each... a bunch of scenes make up a chapter.     combat is turn based jrpg style, but you only get to bring 4 items into combat.   since scenes are so short, it's easy to replay one if you want... though this brings some OCD issues into the game if you don't S rank a battle that you want to.    exploration is done in an interesting and unique way - you can spend turn points to explore parts of the current scene, and turn points are earned in battle.  works well.

you level up by mastering items.  items have limited uses, but only in 'main' battles.  once you're in chapter 2 you can 'practice' battle all you want and your items won't use up uses.  it's an interesting way to allow very limited grinding.   i believe your end game score is based in part on how many 'turns' you took, so overly grinding would cost you score anyway.

my only real complaint is that there are some qte style events during exploration.  for example, you might find a trap in a chest and have to hit down down left left to escape.   they warn you, and flash the correct combination before starting the timer... but they can sometimes be a decent challenge.   starting over a scene after S ranking 3 battles just because you missed a stupid qte can be annoying, but if you're not OCD at all it wouldn't matter.

overally, really enjoying the game... except when i'm not.   i do find myself replaying scenes more than i'd like... the game isn't so difficult that you need to be perfect, it's just that... well, i hate not S ranking shit.   i'd enjoy the game more if i didn't care.

yggdra is the better game, but this was worth the price.   i think all the atlus sale games are, actually.

I couldn't disagree more. Yggdra Union is so needlessly overcomplicated and slow paced. I much preferred Riviera even back when I first played them on GBA.

I'm being lazy...but does anyone know what the Ducktales pre-order theme looks like? I heard someone say it's really good. Anyone got a picture?

It's another one that makes it hard to read any text that appears anywhere on screen.

Like tyler, I have to make my decision on Stealth Inc soon. The reviews that are trickling out seem good, but it really bites that you have to commit to the purchase before getting a demo (or a more sizable selection of reviews). I have a feeling I will end up getting most of the PSN play games to "save" more, but will get probably end up buying a clunker this way...
Stealth Inc is just Stealth Bastard Deluxe on PC, so reviews have been out on that one for a while. The only possible concern is them screwing up the port, but I think Gamespot giving it an 8/10 suggests that it ported over pretty well.

But yeah, getting the 20% off only on pre-orders is a good way for them to sell us a "clunker", if there is one in this set.

Cloudberry seems like it has the best chance of being a clunker, but also the best chance at being a stand out great game that does something a little different with the platforming genre. So I'm going to roll the dice on it. Ibb and Obb should be a pretty good game that will get lauded for it's clever co-op puzzles, though I'm passing on that one. As for Ducktales, after the nostalgia wears off, I think there will be some people who regret that purchase. I'm still on the fence for Ducktales.

These are just my guesses. I was shocked to see that there is a Cloudberry Kingdom trailer on Youtube from August 2009. These guys must have been working on this game for quite a while. Gives me hope that it will turn out to be great!

Aside from sports games I almost never buy Day 1 anymore and even more rarely preorder (can't remember the last time for either). Ducktales however was a must to preorder for nostalgia and because I would love for the sales to blow everyone away to the point that other studios follow suit and release other games, like Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers mentioned above. Like others here, the promotion was too good to pass on once I already knew I was doing one preorder so I got the $20 PSN card and 3 month Plus combo from BB for 27.99 and preordered stealth and cloudberry too. Now have to decide whether to move stealth and cloudberry up in the backlog or wait to get a Vita and play them on there (definitely getting a vita with ps4 for remote play and all the free plus games I've compiled, it's just a question of making the purchase now v. Hoping for a ps4/vita bundle)

The moral of the story is preorder Ducktales so we get more of these remasters.

what? i can't even get my head around that. yggdra has one of the best battle systems i've ever seen. riveria is... very basic. passable, but basic.

I keep getting this error when trying to purchase Beat Hazard Ultra from the online store:
You are not eligible to purchase or download this content.

Any ideas why? I don't own it already.

Store is in the process of updating right now.

Jumping in on this 999 discussion, did anyone play it more than once to get all the endings? I played it once and got a "bad" ending and then started a 2nd playthrough. I realized that I didn't want to solve all those puzzles again so I "abandoned ship. " (ha ha) Is it worth multiple playthroughs?
999 depends on being played several times until you get it right. To say why would be a major spoiler.

You can use a guide to beat it on the second or third time, but even that would lessen the impact. The best way (if you can manage it) is to get all the bad and normal endings first.

Must be a new sale (though I'd love for it to be a permanent price drop).  I think there is a lot of new Atlus stuff on sale this week.  The same shit we always get.

Looks like there's a Tom Clancy sale this week too. Hopefully they just added it to the menu and haven't changed the prices yet because those are terrible prices for games of that age/quality the way they presently stand.

It's just the same as the pc or android version isn't it? Tons of reviews out already for those. Or did they add anything for the vita? Frankly I wasn't really paying attention I just wanted it on my vita haha.
It's supposed to be though with a new engine.

I was tempted to get Stealth Inc. until I saw last night it will have day one DLC, Teleporter Chambers (which I believe is $3.99), coming out today. I will probably just get DuckTales when it comes out. All others probably just wait until a later sale and the usual 50%+ off since backlog is too big anyway.
You're going to pass on a game that you would have otherwise bought because after being out four months on another platform they released DLC for it and then thought that their new customers on another platform might like the option to buy it on day one?

Dang it, Odin Sphere's $5. Persona 1-3 and Disgaea on sale as well. Guess I'm buying more RPGs this week.

Sony Entertainment Network, it's what they call the web store since it covers all their brands.

Sony Entertainment Network

EDIT: Ninja'd
Thanks, everyone. I'll probably get P4G then

Yeah I'm REALLY skeptical after watching some trailers, for the main reason that it is doing the Super Meat Boy/minimalistic tough-as-nails platformer thing, but with an extremely random level design (a recurring aspect in the trailers at least is stuff flying everywhere in no particular pattern). The reason Super Meat Boy and others works so well is because of the consistency of levels that allows you to keep retrying until you eventually get it. From the looks of it, that isn't going to work in Cloudberry because of the before mentioned randomness.

Of course this is just speculation based off a trailer, but I'm not incredibly hopeful at this point. Curious to hear you report back since you're getting them all (at least that's my impression from your posts) ^_^

I would point you toward Spelunky as a counter example - what makes it so replayable even though it is super difficult, is precisely because it is not exactly the same every time. So you die and have to start over, but it's not exactly the same as your last try because the levels are randomly generated.

P4G is very tempting at $20, but I'm nearly out of space on my 16 GB card. I suppose I could delete Gravity Rush, though, as that didn't grab me (though I would like to give it another try at some point).

If you have a Vita and haven't played Persona 4 Golden yet then you're doing it wrong.
Ok, seriously because I really want to know - is the game like 60 hours of dialogue and 5 fights that last an hour each? I've checked out a couple youtube videos of the game and that's what it looked like. No interest in blasting the game since I'm clueless, I just do not understand what the game is.

I passed on Odin Sphere the last time it was $5... doubt I can do that again.
Yeah, with Dragon's Crown in two weeks some Vanillaware action sounds good.

See, that's the basic impression I got as well so I don't think you're too far off base.

buy the other personas, too
The original Persona should have been $5 or I would have. I also find it annoying that while I've seen multiple discounts on Innocent Sin the Eternal Punishment half of Persona 2 doesn't ever seem to go on sale.

Well it's a JRPG about fighting demons mixed with a JRPG about high school. If people don't like Persona it's usually because it is time consuming with a lot of dialogue during the real world parts. That's not to say those parts are bad, they're a lot of what makes the game special, but they're definitely the sections that turn most people off that don't like it.

but Spelunky isn't strictly a platformer, and it's difficulty is mostly from enemies being extremely powerful and you making mistakes and falling/setting off traps/blowing yourself up, etc. It's similar in the way games like FTL are difficult, they are randomly generated, but the style of gameplay allows you to learn from your mistakes. I just don't see how you will be able to do that with Cloudberry,

i don't even know how you got that from trailers.

time in game is basically spent:

1) an overworld with exploration and social links set in a high school and surrounding community. i hate this part, but most LOVE it

2) dungeon exploration with random and boss battles. battle system is a SMT variant. this is the part i love, some don't like as much.

one part

3) 'persona' management/fusing, etc. this ties together the social aspect (social links empower personas) and dungeon crawling (where you can find new ones).

personally, i like other SMT games far more, because i'm not a fan of the social links. but those exact social links are why Persona is the golden child of the series.

I'm definitely getting Cloudberry and playing it on Tuesday, so I'll definitely report back. I'm not positive on ibb & obb or Ducktales yet.

That's funny, I actually really hated Spelunky so hopefully Cloudberry is nothing like it.

That's a good point, the hard part of Spelunky isn't the jumping and platforming, it's being swarmed by overpowered enemies or being randomly set up in no-win situations. I guess I'll see how similar Cloudberry is to that. At least Cloudberry has 5 difficulty settings, so it's already doing things 5x better than Spelunky did.

Yeah, that's a good point. I am waiting on a demo, so I guess I'm in the same camp. :)

Many pages back when we were first discussing this the thing I had said is that to get through a Cloudberry level it looks like you have to be perfect because there's one path and it takes exact timing. That is not fun to me. SMB was fun to me because while it took precision, skill and practice I would never say that it ever took perfection. Spelunky and FTL exist in the same vein to me because while they can be extremely challenging they reward skill and practice but are randomly generated where SMB is static. Could be wrong but that's just how all the videos of CBK make it look to me.

Question for someone who redeems a lot of codes on the SEN website.  Does the phrase "The Prepaid Card code you entered is incorrect or is no longer valid" mean that my code is either wrong or the content isn't available yet?  Or does it also mean it could have already been redeemed?

I could have sworn if the code had already been redeemed it would specifically tell you that instead of giving you the "The Prepaid Card code you entered is incorrect or is no longer valid" message.

i was very interested in P4G when I read the review, but after playing it I was very disappointed. I like turn based strategy but there was so much school "grinding" that was mandatory. Forcing you to spend your days doing boring tasks and finding certain people to hang out with got old fast. The dungeons started to feel repetitive no matter how many personas I created. I never completed it but got nearly there. I believe I got to november.

Check some gameplay vids before buying. Theres a lot of tedium here.

You're going to pass on a game that you would have otherwise bought because after being out four months on another platform they released DLC for it and then thought that their new customers on another platform might like the option to buy it on day one?
Glad I wasn't the only one confused about that logic. Research things even just a little before you damn them people. :p

Ok, seriously because I really want to know - is the game like 60 hours of dialogue and 5 fights that last an hour each? I've checked out a couple youtube videos of the game and that's what it looked like. No interest in blasting the game since I'm clueless, I just do not understand what the game is.
Simply put it's the best game on the Vita. It's about 50/50 story and fighting. The story however is excellent. One of the best written RPG's I've ever played. The gameplay is excellent, the fight mechanics are nearly perfect. You have to play it to understand what makes it so good. Words don't do it justice.

However be warned that the first 5 hours or so of the game are spent introducing the characters and learning how to play the game which isn't a big deal in the long run.

Here's a decent gameplay video but again this is just a sliver of what the game has to offer. You have to play the game yourself in order to appreciate it.

Thats the same impression I got. And I dont like JRPGs all that much. So Im kind of turned off to buying it for $20 if there is a good chance Im gonna hate it.

I think maybe I'll wait for the physical copy of P4G to drop to $20. That way if I don't like it I can trade it - that 5 hours to just get started is scaring me off. That and the 50% story.

If you don't like JRPGs, Persona is not going to change your opinion of them. However, if you enjoy a well written mystery, excellent tun base combat and questing for bigger and better loot (in this case fusing personas) then it's certainly worth a spin. You can always rent the game before deciding to buy it.

When you enter an already redeemed code it should say "This Prepaid Card has already been consumed." If it gives you the other message it's always been because it's wrong, expired (usually the case for me), or not valid yet (like that Killzone beta code) in my experience.
