:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

I notice DLC doesn't go on sale very often. Think I've seen the Burial at Sea DLC on sale once before this sale. Anyone think it'll be cheaper down the line, or should I just buy it now and not bother waiting?

Got my Japanese 10% off Code, but wondering what to get. I'm going to spend 5000 yen.

So far I'm thinking of:

King of fighters 98 Ultimate Match

Capcom vs SNK 2

Justice Academy

...
Never heard of Justice Academy but the other two are good. I wish Ultimate March was on the NA store. Dual Hearts is a fun game which I heard was released on the Japan store recently.

Citizens of Earth getting very mixed reviews, uh-oh...
Of course it is, it's a turn-based jrpg. You could create the greatest jrpg this world has ever seen, and it would get mixed reviews from American reviewers because there is this weird hatred of turn-based jrpgs.

God, they're assh*les. This makes the coupon even more worthless for PS4 users with no decent sale. I was planning on using it on only preorders because that seemed like the only worthwhile use. And I love how on the blog they deleted and /or changed earlier responses that Sony made reassuring us that it could be used on preorders.

more likely an issue with how preorders check out in the cart than it is some 'asshole' decision.

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to just even change the prices on preorders to reflect the difference over the weekend. I'd only be buying PSN games anyway since I can get a much larger discount on retail games through Best Buy.

I'm just upset about the whole thing because it ruined my kids' Christmas. And, no, it wasn't Sony's fault. But there was a huge difference in the way Sony responded to the attack vs. Microsoft. And, again, I love Sony's systems, but their business sense sucks. MS resolved the majority of its problems in 24 hours and actively updated and responded personally to tweets, etc. Sony had virtually no update and a robot canned response for everyone on Twitter.

So yes, I do blame Sony for how crappy they handled the situation, especially treating people like mindless animals instead of human beings who had a right to be treated with respect given that many Christmas days were ruined.

Oh, and tack on a few more days of disappointment for my 11-year old who was getting Little Big Planet 3 as part of the "Pick One" bundle and it wasn't working for him to download even several days after PSN was up. And guess what? Sony wouldn't respond to the issue on their forums and continued with crappy "we are aware of the problem" tweets if you were luck enough to even get one of those,

So I'm more disappointed at Sony for the way Christmas turned out for my kids -- not me.

That's a copout. Final Fantasy XIII got stellar reviews, and executives at Square-Enix have even remarked that Last Remnant scored higher than it deserved. Gamers were the ones originally indifferent to Earth since it didn't even succeed in its Kickstarter campaign.

Why is noone talking about the awesomeness that is Drakengard 3!? It's a hilarious and dark game. I just bought a gutted copy from GameStop for $30 last week and have no regrets. The English voice cast's banter made me fall in love with the game.

Admittedly the framerate does barf on itself sometimes.

Did Microsoft even give anything as compensation for the downtime? PSN users are getting a coupon and a 3-day extension for PS+. That's pretty fair for something that's not even their fault. Why don't you just get rid of your PS4 since you're clearly unhappy about it? In the short-term, that might actually be pretty smart since Microsoft will hopefully be aggressive with sales to close the sales gap.

I'm not unhappy with my PS4. I'm unhappy about Sony's customer service. And, no, MS didn't offer anything, but with the way they responded to people and even did over a silly movie rental issue I had over the same period was sooooo much better and quicker that I was actually happy with it.

Not ditching my PS4...just given up hope on Sony as a business.

Yggdra is an extremely unique and interesting take on srpgs. Combat is very cool; it's sort of an interactive combat between squads of enemies, and you'll watch each attack kill off members of your squad until one side wins. You do have some control over the battle, and can turn the tide with careful play. There's sort of a card game in there too, and how you use the cards available to you really affects the over all strategic level. Highly recommended.
It's a very unique game, and like the mechanics a lot. It's very chess-like. Be warned that the graphics are NES-era quality, as it's a GBA port.

Class of Heroes - fairly hardcore DRPG.
Not at all, but ok.

A bunch of the games are Sting rpgs/srpgs that are tangently connected (Riveria, Hexyz, Yggdra, Knights in the Knightmare, Gungnir)... all the games are quite different from one another, and Sting games in general are very different from most jrpgs/srpgs. They really try new things. They're all part of the same universe, but not really required for one another.
Hexyz Force isn't part of the same series like the other 4.

Apologize for my rants. I've owned every generation of both MS and Sony systems back to PS2/Xbox. Believe me, if Microsoft had handled the outage the same way Sony did, they'd be the target of my wrath too.

I know it isn't the end of the world but certainly leaves a sour taste in my mouth about Sony. After all, I'm only missing out on $1.50 savings on Grim Fandango, it's just the series of events that led to it.

Apparently you never had to deal with Nintendo's customer service, I had a nice experience with try and go through the process of getting your digital games moved to another system.

The screenshots of odin sphere look stretched. Is that how it looks on PS3? Is there any slowdown? When I played it on PS2 it got some serious slowdown during fights.

Thanks for the heads up! I had no clue and missed FellOpenian's prior post. I figured the Director's Cut would have been the 'ultimate' edition...glad that bullet was dodged, especially since I was considering buying it since October. And, as for that 15GB size, that's insane. Definitely a pass.

Guess I'll just be getting Sleeping Dogs this time.
You're welcome, hopefully others will read FellOpenlan's post about it. Agreed on the 15GB file size, it's insane indeed.

In for 10% off on it this weekend, much as I'd love to have a physical copy for same or lower price.

Is Growlancer worth $10? I've heard positive things, but I know almost nothing about it. What would you compare it to?
Rating scores put it at about 3/5 or 60/100 in some cases. I played the one before it and thought it was fun, but that was in the PS2 era...so long ago...I will speak volumes of Odin Sphere and the SMT series (I recommend the Nocturne game alone for its originality in story and its steep-ass learning curve, but it's worth the challenge if you like hard RPGs).

It plays better on ps3 than it did on the original console, and it looks fine you'll just have bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

It's supposedly based on the EU version where they fixed the slowdown issues. The game is 4:3 on PS3, so they probably stretched the screen in the PS2 emulator options (push the PS button).

By the way, folks...Drakengard's digital copy may be $20 (10% less this weekend with coupon), but I checked Best Buy's website.

$20.99 for a new copy of the game. With GCU, works out to $16.80 (shipping is an extra $4 unless you get the free shipping with $35+ order). In-store pickup is also available, but none of my nearby BB's have it in stock.

Why am I tempted to buy this game I will probably never play?

I don't understand what you are talking about. I always knew -exactly- where Sony was during the entire DDOS attack... trying to mitigate the damage. Did they call me up and let me know every hour if it was fixed yet? Nope.

How many different ways can a company tell you 'we're being ddos'd and will update you when we know more'? I need to be told that exactly once, then I... wait to hear more. If I don't hear more, I assume the original statement stands... they don't have anything new to tell me yet.

Am I correct in deducing that you already had an Xbox1 and got your kids a PS4 for christmas as part of that 'pick 1' deal? If so, that's probably the reason you're more upset with Sony... you were already set up with you xbox 1 and didn't necessarily 'need' internet for it, but you had a shiny new PS4 that you couldn't connect and get LBP, etc right away. That is to say, if the situation was reversed, and you had an established ps4 you probably woudn't have cared as much.

And while I don't own an Xbox 1, it was my understanding that "MS resolved the majority of its problems in 24 hours" is simply not true.

Hexyz Force isn't part of the same series like the other 4.
oh yeah, got carried away including it.

Somebody talk me out of Dissidia.

(also, been waiting patiently for the SE sale annnnd no FFT:  War of the Lions. -.-  Jerks.)

Just FYI, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut should be avoided. The Director's Cut is built on an old version of the game which reintroduced a ton of bugs and performance issues which they've never patched. Even on a bleeding-edge PC Director's Cut is a buggy mess which runs like ass...on PS3 it's even worse. :shame:

If you want some Human Revolution love then get the original.
I haven't played the Director's Cut so I lack first hand knowledge but there are quite a few topics on the boards over at Gamefaqs discussing the game's performance. There seems to be just as many people saying the problems with the PS3 version have been overblown, audio glitches involving sound effects and audio commentary issues mostly. Apparently, the Xbox version is the one to really avoid.

I think if you already have the vanilla copy then keep it and save your money, otherwise the DC might not be a bad option for someone who has never played the game before.

Duodecim also includes the "story" of the original with the new gameplay of the second, namely using an actual overworld map instead of the original's chessboards.

Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is out on PS4 on 6/9 with no subscription fees required and some new features for this release. I don't know if the FTP stuff for the PC version have been announced yet, but that's basically the idea for what they're offering here in terms of offering DLC and cosmetic items for an option sub or a la carte purchasing in lieu of a mandatory sub that would provide some of that stuff.

Only about a year late... I might buy in since it's FTP.

If the situation had been reversed I would have been pissed at Microsoft. I'm not going to argue about this anymore. I saw first hand how each company handled it and am not looking at it with rose tinted glasses. If you were on the Sony support forums those days maybe you'd have a different perspective. But if it was MS, I would have been just as upset with tnem. I have no alliance to either company. Just an objection to poor public relations. And there was a clear difference in this situation.

I'd take better service from either company over a 10 percent coupon any day.

I don't get it. You knew they were getting attacked and they said they were aware and fixing it. What more did you expect? Telling you every hour the exact same thing?

Mircosoft didn't really do anything different lol

It's the same model The Secret World used where you get some minor perks for subbing and access to the new content in additon to the item shop allowance. It's a nice way for those that are into the game to support it and get a good value without creatingg a pay to win environment. Hopefully they do the premium content like TSW did with it's "issues" where it's like a major content patch in WoW and you get good value for your money.
