:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Sorry for the double post. The issue is likely that router. It just doesn't have either the antenna or the throughput to handle remote play. If you can afford to step up to a wireless dual band router, I think your problems will be solved. I have an ASUS that has served me well for years. There are newer versions, but this is more than enough for me to get a solid connection for remote play throughout a 3000 sq ft house:

I guess that's where lies the problem then, because I have the exact same Medialink router. Lol. I've been looking for a dual-band router from time to time, but none has a solid reliability rating. My wife and I are starting to purchase some Apple products like iPads and transitioning from PCs to Macbooks, so I figured I should look into an Apple router after reading that they run better on them vs PC routers.

The vita isn't dual band, so that's not strictly necessary. In fact, it only has one antenna do anything faster than N150 won't make a difference in theory.

In practice, I've had about the best remote play experience possible (indistinguishable from same room direct connect) with ASUS N66 and Netgear R7000, which are admittedly high end routers, but Ive needed high end equipment to get decent whole home coverage with crappy clients like the Vita.

If you've got a hardline from PS4 to your current router, Direct Connect is disabled, and the Vita gets a strong signal from the router you should be fine. If you've got a weak connection to the router you'll need to move it or get something that gives you better coverage where you actually want to use Remote Play.

Thanks. I ending up buying a used one on Amazon.

Finally had a chance to look at this week's sales.

Is Sparkle 2 basically Zuma?

Master Reboot looks like a fun FPS that doesn't involve the military for a change. Is it worth checking out?

Still going through the PS Plus backlog, some games are really disappointing me.

Stopped Munches Odyssey after 20 min, there was a part where you have have to throw guys over rocks, right next to a fyi panel. One button does both. So hitting that button only picks up a guy 20% of the time, the other 80% he would run over and hit the panel. The followers wouldn't get far enough away from the panel to matter. How do devs not notice this crap during testing?

I don't have enough time to put up with that kind of crap anymore in games, move on to something better thought out.

Master Reboot isn't an FPS, but more of a first-person adventure/horror game.
Pretty solid game. I really liked it. If you want the plat, be prepared to get all the collectible in one run. The game is glitched so if you turn the game off, everything gets reset. I learned that the hard way and had to do another run which could have been avoided :wall:

That 5 Star Wrestling game that's out next week is interesting/weird/probably bad:

The US price point is $24.99, the game features:
*More Moves-Per-Wrestler than any other wrestling game

*Finisher-to-Finisher reversals, (Ankle Lock to Crossface, Crossface to Uncle Slam, Uncle Slam to Crossface, etc)

*Heel/Face mechanics,

*A Strategic Damage System that lets you target your opponents legs to the point where they struggle to use lift up moves,

*Self Damage, like knocking yourself out from a diving headbutt in a Last Man Standing match

*A 40 hour challenge mode

*Different versions of finishing moves depending on your condition, for example an Ankle lock where he stands up for leverage, one where he kneels up and gives it everything but then struggles to get back to his feet after and one where he is angry so he grapevines the leg, etc

*Different versions of your finisher depending on your position, Mike Iceberg has the TITANIC SLAM from the front, back, apron, top rope and from Ragnabrök the Conquerors END IS NIGH finishing move

*A Platinum Trophy

*Alt costumes for every wrestler

*8 Match Types

*A ton of micro details like Clotheslines with Raging Andy Organ, where the opponent pops back to his feet
*Highly customisable Goal Orientated AI where Curtis will use different strategies against Gregg than he would with Ragnabròk. You can change everything from their mood to how fast they button bash and even how fast they think.

The "parody" names for real wrestlers are great (Andy Organ, Curtis Angel, Gregg Hearty, Jonny "The Bull" Miavia, etc). The facial expressions in the trailer are hilarious.

Anyone else buy the Saints Row 4 season pass and only get the weapon DLC?

The extra mission downloads don't show up on my download list, and when I tried to force it to download the season pass from the store page, it only downloaded the extra weapon and nothing else.

I read on Examiner they tried to make it like the AKI games with Fire Pro customization. If it plays anything like No Mercy, I'll be interested.

Just finished the Sparkle 2 demo and sure enough it's basically Zuma. The controls aren't as tight as Zuma but it's still a nice little game. I especially like the soundtrack which sounds similar to Danny Elfman's Beetlejuice score.

Thanks for the feedback on Master Reboot. I'll check it out.

BTW, it was brought to my attention that the Sony Rewards points earned through 2014 will be expiring on March 31 (unless you have one of the Sony credit cards which carries them through a few years).

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like I can use my points (I have 400 set to expire)  towards a purchase and pay the remaining balance (1 point  = 1 cent). Fortunately they have PSN codes so I plan to purchase a $10 code to help cover Master Reboot and Sparkle 2.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/13/addams-family-coming-to-the-pinball-arcade-on-ps4/

Pinball Arcade on PS4 has The Addams Family, Starship Troopers, Earthshaker, and Party Zone tables coming out on Tuesday.

More info on Magicka 2 for PS4, which is out on May 26.
damn, I remember all the friday/saturday nights I spent at the arcade playing Addams family. I really hope they have a physical disc release of this season to include said table.

Sparkle 2 is Zuma with a little less charm, more powerup type stuff, and a terrible 'story' (not that it matters). Ultimately, though, it's a fine enough zuma fix.

(zuma is a clone too, by the way... even though everyone knows the genre as zuma).

"5 Star 3:17 said $24.99"

Even the song is a parody, thats great.

I'm enjoying Hand of Fate, but I wish it was more polished and the load times were shorter. I finished a campaign and the screen sat at the main menu screen for several minutes with no main menu that forced me to quit out and hop back in. I keep wondering if the game has frozen when it loads up a battle/shop/trap scenario since it just hangs with the cards on top of a black background with no loading icon on screen. Other than that, it's a cool idea for a way to lay out randomized scenarios for this D&D-esque action game.

Fatshark Games (Lead and Gold, Hamilton's Great Adventure, Krater, and others) is making the newest Warhammer game, which they call "a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure."

Is anyone from US and kind enough to do me a favor?

I want to redeem a SonyRewards PSN $10 Code (I have +1000 points) and I can't cause I'm from Argentina and no proxy nor VPN is good enough. Please contact me so I can pass you my login data. I can give you some steam games for your trouble.

Rented The Order for $3 from Redbox.  Definitely doesnt deserve all the hate it received.  On chapter 9 or 10 right now and enjoying it.  Pretty standard cover based 3rd person shooter, but with really nice graphics.  Just gotta finish and return it by 9pm tomorrow night so I dont get charged for another night

Ah, good times. I had 997 Sony Rewards points so I only had to pay 0.03 for a $10 PSN Card. Then I remembered that I can register 3 DVDs a day for 1 point each. Instant free.

And that is why I think The Order gets all the hate from being too short, and not anything else. You shouldn't be able to finish a $60 game in one day and expect people to be happy with it. No multiplayer nowadays for a $60 game with a short campaign isn't what most people want. Personally, I can't wait until it comes to my local Redboxes.

Yeah, I guess that's the difference. I went into it knowing it was gonna be a short, narrative driven game with no replay value, and that's why I rented it. I would definitely feel like I hadnt gotten my moneys worth if i had paid $60, but it seemed everyone knew what it was gonna be

A lot of people complained that Spec Ops: The Line had tacked on multiplayer. The developer went on record saying they had to divert resources to implement multiplayer. Bioshock 2 had the same backlash. Unless you're CoD, Gears, or Battlefield the multiplayer community quickly moves on to the latest and greatest release.

My main issue with The Order was that there's just so much unskippable downtime between the actual gameplay sequences. It just kills any motivation to play through the game a second time.

The key is people pre-ordered it not knowing what it would be like. Everyone should have waited for the reviews. I mean why pay $60 for something you know nothing about. I do pre-order niche games, but they're usually out in Japan already and have been previewed, reviewed and generally recieved before it is localized for us. People have to realize that it's more important to know about what you're buying than blindly giving $60 (or GCU whatever) on launch just to have it now. Everyone is so inpatient these days. I learned my lesson badly with Evolve, and no trading it in right afterward if you beat it quick doesn't help against this. The developers/publishers already earned your money with that $60ish pre-order. I generally only blind pre-order some visual novels from companies like Mangagamer, but when I really think about it it's not that blind, as I have vndb.org to look at some stuff about the title, usually their is reviews for it already, and Mangagamer has a relatively good blog about their development in games and the characters and such.

Speak with your money people. That's what it all boils down to.

I get what you're saying and you're right. But there is a place for those games with people like me. I will gladly pay $60 for a single player only experience that focuses more on providing a good, memorable experience rather than artificially lengthening the game or with a crappy MP tacked on. I haven't personally played The Order yet, don't have a PS4 right now, but once I get one, it will be one of the first games I pick up.

I don't think most people would have had a problem with The Order's length if it were a better, more unique experience than what we got.

I completely agree with this. I don't understand the fascination with preorders these days, since games are so easily available at many different outlets. Options used to be a little more limited on buying games on release date back in the day, but that isn't a problem nowadays.

The last game I preordered was MGS4 CE. The next one I will get it is MGS5 CE, preordered already, just waiting for release. It is probably the last game I will ever preorder.

Just an FYI for anyone else - you have to buy the season pass, then go back and add the other DLC packs to your cart, which show up as free after you buy the season pass.

Why they don't include those with initial purchase is beyond me.

I mostly just don't get people.

Not every game takes the same amount of time to play, and not every story takes the same amount of time to tell. Once you've told your story, the only way to make the game longer is to 'pad' it -- either with endless collectables, or 'enemy waves', or other 'tricks'... not all of which are bad, but that plenty of people complain about. We've all heard people complaining about enemy waves in games like Uncharted.

howlongtobeat puts Uncharted's time to beat at under 9 hours. If you removed any extraneous enemy waves, what would that be? 6 hours? Possibly the same as The Order? In other cases, games like killzone:mercenaries get knocked for time to beat, ignoring the fact the game is designed from the ground up to be played multiple times in very different ways. Or Vanquish, where the point of the game is learning to beat it even faster (or at least, the challenges) .

We ultimately forgive some games, and crucify others. TLOU is supposedly a 15 hour game, but it's silly to ignore the fact that this is in part because the game encourages slow, stealthy movement, and also includes crafting which again slows you down to look for parts. Granted, it's longer than The Order any way you cut it, but of course some games are longer than others.

Do we give jrpgs bonus points if they require grinding for 50 hours to beat the final boss (obviously an exaggeration, but certainly, much of their length would be considered 'padding' if it were in a more cinematic game)? Do we include backtracking time in games that require a lot of travel? Do we include the time to beat really hard bosses and die a lot? What about bad checkpointing that forces us to replay long sections -- does that count towards game time or not? There's no clean, normalized metric. Some games just get mauled for sins other games commit regularly.

I think there's plenty of room out there for 6 hour games right alongside 100 hour games. They serve different purposes, play to different people, and neither deserve to be harshly judged simply because of something so easily 'faked' by filler. I find it silly that The Order would likely have gotten significantly better reviews if they simply added 2 extra waves to every battle and more collectables. I'm sure some have other valid criticisms, of course... but those 4 ratings are laughably ridiculous compared to other games that have rated 4s.

I don't think most people would have had a problem with The Order's length if it were a better, more unique experience than what we got.
Also possible, of course, though The Order was generating a surprising amount of hate from the first reveal for some reason. It had serious hurdles to overcome, which it obviously didn't.

Here's what it comes down to. How long should a $60 game be? Let's just say 15 hours. So anything less than should cost less you guys think? If so, using that logic anything longer should cost you more.

Ah I broke down and bought a Saint's Row 3 game. I don't have any hope for the Batman sale, considering I already own the two Rocksteadys and I'm actively avoiding Origins due to it being buggy and crap on PS3.

I think they fixed it, or at least I did not run into a single bug when I played it.

I just learned I own Proteus and Rainbow Moon. Where do I get these games from?

Proteus was PS+ free one month, I guess...but was Rainbow Moon?

is saints row 4 worth the price it is on sale for right now?
If you have a PS4, that's the preferable option over PS3 since that version is poorly optimized at best. It's still playable on PS3, but that version has a lower framerate that can get unstable at times in the more chaotic moments that are more frequent as you get more powerful. If you're looking at the PS4 version, I'd probably wait for a better deal on it and Gat Out of Hell that I'd expect during the summer when there are less games coming out.

And just finished the Order.  Would probably give it a 7.5.  Great visuals, decent story, average gameplay, and no replay value really.  Perfect game for a rental.  Overall not a bad way to spend $3 and a day without the wife and kiddo around.

Here's what it comes down to. How long should a $60 game be? Let's just say 15 hours. So anything less than should cost less you guys think? If so, using that logic anything longer should cost you more.
This is a good question, but I honestly I do not think review scores should reflect price. At all.

The price of a game changes over time -- price drops, sales, clearance, used market, digital... heck, what were once PS1/2 classics launch on PSN now for $6-$10. I should be able to look up those reviews and see scores relevant to the game's quality, not the games quality at whatever the going rate for PS1 or PS2 games were at the time.

Would The Order be a steal at $10? Or is an absolute disaster not worth it at any price like, say, Legendary? Well, The Order is by all accounts a beautiful, well polished game that has some issues. Legendary is an ugly, broken POS. There's no way to tell when major outlets give The Order 4s, with a large dose of that score being some sort of penalty for length.

I mean, if TLOU launched at $100 because they knew it was great, should it lose review points? Or should reviewers still give it 9s and 10s and just assume people will buy it at a price they are comfortable with, just like we do with everything else. Mention in the review '...but you might want to wait for a sale', don't give the game a 4 because $100 somehow changes its per minute value. Likewise, you don't give games better reviews / higher scores simply because they launch for cheaper than some other game. You simply mention it's a great value.

Rate the quality of the game. Comment on the value. Let us figure out the price we're comfortable buying it at, just like we always do.

This might be old news to some but the PS mobile store is supposed to be shutting down this year. This article gives dates and some details about registering devices to allow for game play after shutdown.

Sony plans to shut down playstation mobile

I stopped caring about the source of my games once I purchased my Vita but I guess it's time to make my list of PS Mobile vs PSN games and get them downloaded.

I don't check this thread, but I noticed that The Wolf Among Us Episode 1 - Faith is free on Amazon.

I don't PS3, so here are some codes:

Voucher Code: APE3-87NE-NM8H
Voucher Code: 7A45-7ANL-KLNR

It was made free a while ago as a demo for the full season, so Amazon had to drop their prices to match it.

damn, I remember all the friday/saturday nights I spent at the arcade playing Addams family. I really hope they have a physical disc release of this season to include said table.
I was playing Addams Family pinball last week and the local 'barcade'. So much fun back in the day, and still fun. So glad this is coming out, but I'd be even more thrilled with a physical disc.
