My parents are on vaction and they found some penny guides. I still don't think I got pikmin or Lego. Luckily they know the drill and they bring and extra empty carry on for guides.

We might only have 1 TRU in town, but it was a goldmine.
Reminds me of my old Best Buy hauls.

Really wish I knew New Leaf had pennied. That's the one I really wanted. Only thing that's worth anything that I have are the Spirit Tracks hardcover guide, Mario Galaxy 2 CE, and the New Super Mario Bros Wii guides.

We might only have 1 TRU in town, but it was a goldmine. The manager basically told the cashier to ring them up, but write the SKUs down so they could pull the rest. There was some Chima guides there too, but I don't like those small guides.

Last 3 are Assassin's Creed IV.

If anyone wants a trade, PM me.

Oh FYI, I also bought 2 Windwaker HD paperbacks, and Evolve to throw them off that I was just there for penny guides.
PM'ed for Zelda....

Picked up a couple Pikmin 3 guides, a Watch Dogs guide, Lego Marvel, and a LoZ Link Between Worlds Guide,  and went to check out at the games section. The cashier was cool until he saw $0.02 as the price for most of them (all except Lego Marvel). He called a manager and she said "NOPE. Those are getting donated to Toys For Tots." There were a few other penny guides on the shelf I didn't have interest in. This was in Vineland, NJ.

Uh-huh, because Toys for Tots is the perfect place for a Watch Dogs guide.

I bet the bin they have for Toys for Tots gets often mistaken for the dumpster. Vice versa.

I hit my local TRU on Sunday and scored a stack of penny guides. Got a bunch mentioned plus a Mario Kart 7 (yes, 7) and a Halo 4 guide. Hadn't seen those mentioned yet.

Wow, definitely started reminiscing about the good ol' days of penny guides. Managed to grab:

LOZ: Link between worlds x2

Pikmin 3 x2

Watch Dogs

BF4

Assassin's creed black flag

Halo 4

Luigi's Mansion

Lego legends chima laval's journey

Probably a dumb question, but has anyone gone back and returned a full price guide that they used to "disguise" the penny guides?

Sure. I've bought the game and the penny guide at the same time, and then returned the game later.

I just took my pile of guides to the normal registers. Seems they'd have no clue what it meant anyways. I was buying baby clothes with them though.

I went into an adult store to buy some penny items and they told me they are donating them to "Toys for Thots"

I thought I just made that upon the spot, then I made a google search: http://toysforthots.com/

Missed opportunity on my part.

This one is my favorite:
Word of warning. I would not recommend clicking on any of those links.

That's not a dumb question. It's actually a very smart idea. I bought a LEGO set to mask the purchase. Word of warning, TRU uses the same company as Best Buy and some other stores to track returns. So don't buy and return too much stuff or you'll be banned from doing returns at all the stores. But the ban only lasts for 90 days, or so an employee tells me.

Tru just shut me down, they said the guides are going back to the manufacturer. Damn clerk. And it was at the regular register.

I finally had a chance last week or so to check out the guides at my TRU, they only had a few guides and none of the the $.02 guides.  Either they're on top of their game and removed them already or a fellow CAG already hit them up.

Also, they had like 3 Lego Marvel guides - those were worth some $ right? The 3 they had were a little beat up though, so I didn't bother, but remember hearing awhile back that they were selling for some good $.

Oh well, maybe next time.

Found five link between world's guides at best buy.

Manager wouldn't sell them to me.

Penny guides are more waste of time and gas then anytht.

TRU was more generous...and by more I mean one time they let me out with just ONE penny guide. Another time they let me have whatever I grabbed and brought to the counter. Yet another time...I hit the jackpot let's say.

BBY 99% of the time they just say they can't sell it and take it.

Best Buy cracked down a while ago.  Used to be the best place to get guides for most of us.  Monday drops where everyone on the east coast would post their finds.  That is where 'grab dem shitz' and other epic posts came from. Fun times, no doubt.

Yea, until IATCG or whatever his name was ruined it cause he was denied once. Now he hangs out at SD talking down about CAG all the time.

does anyone bother with best buy anymore
I actually was trying to buy Super Mario 3D World CE for full $34.99 the other day and got shot down because it's discontinued. Every single best buy in this area has them. for shits and giggles I tried another store when i saw it and they shot me down too.

I found 2 last week at a store and decided to try my luck. After waiting about 10 minutes they gave both of them to me for free. I was very happy about that.

Nice! I even asked if I could have them for free since she was really nice about it. She couldn't do it. I even asked her to just ring it up as a random item and I'll pay the $35. She couldn't.

I was at a BBY tonight for a couple things so I tried my luck. Grabbed several that are NLA on the site (Adv. Warfare CE, Far Cry 4 CE, and Bayonetta 2). Those rang up full price. But the Dead Space 3 CE I found was of course, "not for sale."

Now cracks a noble heart.

They also had like 8 Halo 4 CEs, but nobody cares about those.

Got two link between world's for $0.02 cents each.

Almost refused to sell. Pushed it but they would only sell me two. Said rest are for donations.

For some reason, a GS near me put out one each of these guides:
Arkham City
Arkham Origins
Castlevania LoS

We'll see how trying to buy them goes.

Edit: Shot down, unsurprisingly

Found a couple Super Mario 3D World guides at BB. Guy at the register tried to override the system and find a way to sell them, but nothing worked. Bummer

They pennied out last thanksgiving. Its the accessory pack.
Thanks! This is around when I cancelled my internet...man I missed a lot of stuff. (I sat out BF intentionally because it was too much to handle last year). I doubt I'll find one, but I'll have something else to look for when I am traveling.

Was near a far off TRU and got 2 Chima's and a couple others. I bought a game with it (which I may just return). I don't know if that helped my cause.

I was glad I got a cashier at a regular checkout lane as opposed to the service desk. The woman was cool, I was shocked. When she gave me my receipt she told me about the survey to fill out "for a chance to win a $500 gift- so you can buy some more 2 cent books!"

If anyone has the hardcover CE guide for Assassin's Creed III, please PM if you want to trade.

Ah yes, that was me who first said "grab dem shitz". Brings back good memories. Back when the penny guides flowed like wine. A couple weeks back I found Link Between Worlds and Donkey Kong Country returns for a penny each at Layton Ut, Toys R Us. They actually sold them to me. First score I've had in several years. They had more if anyone wants to try their luck.

A friend and I lucked out yesterday at the target in Wilmington and cleaned them out of all the penny guides. The manager actually helped me go through and find ones.

Got thief, acc 4, dk3d, pikman 3, watchdogs

If anyone is looking for those and happened to score an extra link between worlds guide I will gladly hook ya up.
