RPG Thread VI needs a remake
I really want one of the PS2 ones (or better yet the PSP port), but I forget it's name. The one that was supposed to be a more "mature" tone I think?
Tales of Rebirth, which after getting to the halfway point I think has the best battle system and story of any Tales games I played (and I am at least halfway done with every PS2 Tales game aside from Destiny remake)

And Namco pretty much announced their 2010-11 lineup, so far no Tales games
Tales of Rebirth, which after getting to the halfway point I think has the best battle system and story of any Tales games I played
It's the one that's basically the Destiny battle system but with three rows? I really didn't care for that battle system all that much.

Yeah, Rebirth! That was it. I hope this Graces fan translation works out. The Fatal Frame 4 translation on Wii was amazing (granted, much less text).

On that note, what other excellent games do you guys think we missed out on for not crossing the pond (or better yet, had a fan translation)? Big ones I know of are Seiken Densetsu 3 and Mother 3.

I heard Terranigma was good, I want to get around to playing that someday. I think I've also heard good things about Live A Live.
Plus it's basically mission based, and after putting in 25 hours I just can't do it anymore.
Ya I felt the same way about KH 358/2, and also Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, like after a certain point doing a lot of the same type of stuff over and over again in the exact same areas with just different parts blocked off isn't fun anymore. Though, Crisis Core was even worse for me since it had to transition into battle, like as I went further into that game I just started hugging the walls to try and avoid the battle trigger points so that the missions took less time, until I just became so bored that I gave up on the game.

Mother 3 is, of course, at the top of that list. There are also tons of RPGs on the SNES that have gotten fan translations like Super Robot Wars and Shin Megami Tensei. I've actually been thinking about getting a flash cart for the SNES to play some of them.

I would go with Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Super Robot Alpha Gaiden for games that have fan translation. Terranigma was not a fan translation as the game got a Europe release
I would go with Persona 2: Innocent Sin
I've always wanted to play this, but can't seemed to get it to work on my Mac. I'd be in heaven if I could get this on my PSP.

It would only make sense to see Personas 2 & 4 get PSP releases in the future.

I'm also wondering if Disgaea 3 becomes the first PS3 RPG to make the jump.

After watching the horrible DQ9 commercial featuring Seth Green...

I got excited for DQ9 again!
It's coming out this month!

Yeah!

I'm gonna admit, I actually liked the commercial. Though I think pretty much everything Seth Green does is funny.

At the very least, I appreciate how much Nintendo is pimping the game.

I agree.

Which of these games can be beaten in two weeks with an average of 2-3 hours of play every 2 days? (I want something to play and beat before DQIX comes out) (In other words, can be beaten in

I'm filling my pre-DQIX time with DQV, a nice warmup. Once DQIX comes out I don't imagine playing much else for weeks (Sorry P3P!)

Looks like I'll be filling my pre-DQIX time with non-RPGs Deathsmiles and Sin and Punishment 2.

Sakura Wars is in your time frame, I just finished it recently. Just be prepared for a lot of dialogue, and quick reading skills for selecting responses.

Just beat Chrono Trigger DS again. :) Love the game. Will probably review it sooner or later. I did every single sidequest but the Sun Stone crap. That's only because I threw out all my fire resist armor.
That's great news. NIS is the problem with RPGs today.
They were willing to take a chance on Sakura War so I dont think they are a problem. Ignition on the other hand...
That's great news. NIS is the problem with RPGs today.
I think the problem with RPGs today is that no one makes them anymore.
I think the problem with RPGs today is that no one makes them anymore.
And the people that do make them are trying to disguise them as something else.
As long as NISA keeps giving me games from GUST they are okay. I still love my sprites.
GUST has recently moved to 3D models. Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, and Ar Tonelico III are all on the PS3 and use 3D models instead of sprites.

Also, I kind of like that Dragon Warrior commercial, haha. I think it fits well for the target audience for when it was released, and strangely matches up with the style of a bunch of Japan's commercials for the later DQ games which used live action.

I really don't understand Japan's DQ commercials.

The last one I saw featured live actors speaking in Spanish? Por que? なぜ?

I'm not sure I ever will either. :D

Japan is awesome!

goku deki masu!

I donno what that means, but it sounds like japanese to me!!

araishi ku!

yosha sora shi ne!

i maintain that japan is just as normal as any other country

only japan is more dense and therefore crazy stuff is more under the microscope

but this is not a socio-political topic, so i will try to stay on topic with this picture of barbara from dragon quest 6:

i recommend not searching "barbara dragon quest 6" on google with safesearch off. well, i do, just not at work.

Will it return more or fewer results than "jessica dragon quest 8" with safe search off? :D

fewer.

definitely fewer.

jeez. i did a search for "final fantasy 7 tifa" and got... nothing really. well, it took longer than i would've expected. i guess i didn't know people only viewed DQ girls as porn.

I started Infinite Space. Feels super low-budget. I think this might be a 50-hour slog. I win every fight by "move into range, dodge, wait for enemy to attack, barrage." The developers added extra fun by having you automatically target a ship that you are not very likely to hit, instead of the one you are most likely to hit.

Oh really? I didn't know they did that. Kinda sucks but Ar Teonelico 3 might be good, liked the last two.

Also DQ9 on handheld still pisses me off.:bomb:

Why? Dragon Quest has never really been about flashy graphics or anything. Yeah, the visual style of DQVIII was awesome, but the DQ remakes of IV and V on DS were fantastic. Ultimately this is a game geared towards the Japanese audience first, and that market is now primarily handheld.

Don't be surprised if DQX is shifted to the 3DS, considering we haven't heard a peep about it since they said it would be on the Wii.

On Dragon Age:

Warrior + Stunning Blows (stun on crit hit) + Mage + Death Hex (normal hits => critical) = dead enemies.

Also, 2H Warrior > DW Rogue. That's all I'm sayin.' P:

Although really, the rest of your party is redundant if you make a good Arcane Warrior. They're unstoppable.

Simply I don't like handhelds.

Over 8 hours into Mass Effect 2 and loving it -- though I'm starting to get the feeling it's more like Dragon Age in the sense that the main narrative takes a back seat for 90% of the game while you go around asking for help.

Nothing wrong with that (unless it disappoints at the end), just surprised at how much they ditched the linear plot direction that the original had. All the sub-missions are tons of fun though, but I'm getting tired of the matching game for unlocking stuff

Almost done with Persona 4. I just got past the part of no return and I'm assured of getting the true, good, or neutral endings.

I checked out the bad ending on youtube and it's not even worth creating an alternate save point for.

Yeah, I started that a little while ago and put it back on the shelf, probably forever. I only played 2 or 3 fights but they were just too boring I couldn't stand any more.

Got back late last night. Never started Clash of Heroes. What little gaming I did do over the trip was Pokemon, damn addictive buggers. Since I was last here, I got badge #3 and have done much exploring, battling, and capturing. Just started on Veilstone's gym this morning.

And whoo, DQIX in less than a week! :whee: I have to seek out this allegedly awful Seth Green commercial, though.

As for NISA, well, that's why they're expanding into anime publishing, I guess.

I actually think it's pretty funny. Also, that midnight blue DSi XL is pushing me over the edge. SERIOUSLY starting to consider getting one.
I like the ad too.

Is that considering getting a DSi XL or just a DS in general? I actually think the XL is too big, when I tried it out it didn't feel as comfortable in my hands as the DSi does.

I already have the DSi, but I really like the color of that XL. But I'm going to sit on this for a while before making such an impulsive decision.
Also, that midnight blue DSi XL is pushing me over the edge. SERIOUSLY starting to consider getting one.
I'm not getting another DS until the 3DS is out, but I hope that they choose a better pink color than they did for the DSi, because that color isn't pink. Like even the Metallic Pink DSLite, which is the DS I own, isn't my favorite color of pink; the Coral Pink DSLite was the best one, but by the time I traded my fat DS for a DSLite they had discontinued that color.
I'm prepping for DQ9 by playing DQ8.

3 hours in, just got my alchemy pot =)
You better step on it, that's a long ass game. :D
