The Caliber of My Pricematch
So, here's what I did....
I Googled the URL for the deal:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3209502. Then I cached it and saved the HTML to my hard drive as a "Web Page, complete". Opened the HTML in Notepad and deleted the following code:
Code:
This is Google's cache of [URL="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3209502"]http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3209502[/URL]. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on Dec 26, 2008 11:52:47 GMT. The [URL="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3209502"]current page[/URL] could have changed in the meantime. These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: http www radioshack com product index jsp productid 3209502
Saved the edited HTML and opened it in Firefox. By removing that code, I removed the "This is a Google cache..." box at the top of the webpage. Then I print previewed it, clicked "Page Setup" and then the "Margins & Header/Footer" tab, selected "Custom..." for the right header, and inputed the URL:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3209502. I was then able to print out the webpage just as it appeared before the link was killed.
With my authentic as possible print out, I first went to Best Buy. At Best Buy I was told that they only pricematch if the retailer, at the closest location, has the item in stock. The Radio Shack near Best Buy did not have the game in stock. I next tried Wal-Mart. At Wal-Mart, I was told that they only accepted circulated ads, not computer print-outs. Next, I gave GameStop a call and was told that they do not pricematch. Finally, I stopped at Game Crazy, the girl behind the counter told me that they do pricematch and went to double-check with the manager. He said it was fine and I was able to purchase the game from Game Crazy for $19.97 plus tax. The girl was surprised that the game was being offered for that low and I mentioned that they had had it for $24.99 last weekend and that I tried to buy it from them on Monday but that it was back up to $59.99. The manager was nice enough to back my story.
I don't know if I would consider this deal a scam or not because, even though, the deal is no longer posted, it's only a couple days old. If this deal was more than a week old, then I would consider it a scam. Anyway, to recap:
Best Buy: YMMV. Some previous posters had success, I did not.
Wal-Mart: I'd say "no go", unless someone else had success, then YMMV.
GameStop: No.
Game Crazy: Yes but, it might be YMMV depending on your Game Crazy. The people that work at the one that I frequent are pretty cool and not 20 year-olds on a powertrip. Some people complain about their Game Crazy though so, YMMV.
Hope this helps you guys and good luck!
