Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

Twenty pages to go through... here's one half of quotes or something.

This is where I put on my little used console peasant hat and say Amen. I really wanted to love Ni No Kuni but Christ that is some grindy repetitive shit and I'm not 12 anymore so the constant Pikachu I choose YOU over and over just doesn't do it for me.

They are too busy with securing multiplayer only Early Access games about people who pretend to be airplanes.
Hey now, that's the reason I bought that bundle!

For you kids, arcades were these places you had to go to in order to play video games. You had to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE. Then you had to buy rolls of quarters. The worst part? The multiplayer. In order to get QUEUED for a game you had to place a quarter along the glass. It was sheer terror!
One of my fondest gaming memories is when I was just a little dude playing Virtual On at Fun Factory. I was playing solo against the computer when an older boy (a teenager, ooo) got in the seat next to me and challenged me. He literally went through every single robot available to choose from, and I knocked him on his ass with each one. Every battle elicited a groan of frustration from him, and once he lost with the final robot, he stormed off grumbling.

I played that game a bit too much. The dual stick controls made it so damn fun though.

Aw damn, there's a good chance the Spiderweb collection will go on sale if the community choice picks Avadon but Avernum 1&2 aren't on Steam at all and I don't want to buy them later...still ultra tempting though auuugh

And before you mention GOG I only have steambuxxxx right now :/
I know the collector side of you wants all the games, but if you're interested in them I'd suggest just going for it. They're great SRPGs with massive worlds and tons of stuff to do. I sunk countless hours into 4 and I don't even know how close I was to the end. There are so many side quests and shit I'd say they feel like Skyrim in the form of a dated looking SRPG.

So yeah, if you wanna play em, grab em. They're solid games and there's no way you'll ever play through all of them. 2 and 3 are sort of unnecessary (though they are being remade from what I've heard, and will hit Steam eventually).

Left off FF9, the only one I'd probably actually consider rebuying at this point. I've thought about playing 7 again but it has not aged well and the thought of suffering through Midgard again always puts me off it. And with 8 I've never been able to tolerate it past disc 2, easily my least favorite of the series. 9, however, was all around pretty great, except maybe the final boss... but that was in keeping with the throwback nature of the game having something big and nasty kind of drop in out of nowhere.
A fellow FF9 lover! Yeah, I far prefer 9 to 7 and 8. Great game (and awesome if you play it on FPse on an Android device).

This voting is really making me hate the Steam community. :wall:

Already had Lone Survivor, Metro: LL isn't low enough. Slender's supposed to be pretty bad, right?

Anyways, Green's about to win in 20 minutes. Recommendations for what I should try to win off my wishlist? Stick of Truth is probably one of them. Any other suggestions?
Ehh, Avadon 2 WILL be bundled, and Jade Empire has 1. Been the same price multiple times before, and 2. Is better to buy on GOG instead.

Betrayer may be bundled too, but it's new, looks great, and got an 80% off tag. That was definitely the correct choice from a CAG perspective.

M&B is incredible. Not pretty to look at
M&B is incredible. They give you as many character customization options as Skyrim or DA:O -- brow, earlobes, eye tilt, etc and no matter what, you'll look like someone carved you out of an old potato.

Finally caught up with the thread, after reading more than 150 pages all I regret is missing that Amazon AOE 2 glitch.
Isn't it still working? I hadn't heard anyone say it's unavailable.

Edit: Oh, nevermind ... it's out of stock now

The bad:

I started up Ride to Hell Retribution and it appears that the savegame did not survive my new Windows reinstall. I was close to the end and all that is now lost. fuck

The good:

I crafted a sale badge and got a Rare Spiral Knights tail set. I debated keeping it, but I don't really play the game much and I already have the Tails set (don't judge me) so... up it goes. Sells for close to two bucks.

Isn't it still working? I hadn't heard anyone say it's unavailable.
Some Reddit folks say it no longer works.

Everybody begins somewhere, Neuro.

Yep - began as a kid on consoles...and by the time DOS and Windows got big, I had to get a Windows PC (1995).

133 Mhz Pentium - woot. Fond memories of MechWarrior 2: Mercs, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 1+2 on it.

And I was also an arcade gamer, too.

Played a lot of stuff at Arcades back then in 90's, too - especially fighting games like MK series, SF games, and Tekken series.
y u not overclock that to 140 Mhz?

Grabbed South Park for $4.99! Hurry-- this must be a price glitch! Thanks for the heads-up, sunasun!
you're welcome. I think it's only that price if you have the 1K badge. would explain why the newbies only see it for 40.19.

I think it was a joke.. I find it hard to believe sunasun of all people would notice a price glitch before me us
especially since I was at work with no internet access.

It must suck to the be the people who payed $90 for Planetary Annihilation. I guess those types think they are helping poor starving indie charities though.

I'm not seeing this supposed $5 South Park either so either someone is trolling or Sunasun ate one too many hamburgers.

We need some sort of vote accountability. I want to see which of you aholes seriously voted for these community choices. So I can send stupid shit your direction. Seriously, I go to lunch expecting some decent sheot, when I come back I realize the retards have taken control of the prison all over again.
South Park is stupid shit, so is watchdogs and murdered soul supspect.

as my punishment you should send me those so I can realize the error of my ways

Is sleeping dog collection for 7.99 the cheapest it has been?
no, it was 4 something a few sales ago. December 2012 I think was when it glitched in my favor.

Batch two of quotes. God there's too much to catch up on.

I dunno if anyone's already mentioned this ... and I don't care if they have ;)

The Lunar Pack is Lunnye Devitsy and Wake for $1.24 and produces 11 cards in total.

P.S. I slept in today and missed a vote
cry-blow.gif
They're apparently really terrible games though. If you already have loads of games to idle for cards... not much point to grabbing that.

Betrayer is mine!
I'm bummed. I got home and felt like shit, passed out for 3 hours, woke up with a 100 degree fever and saw that I had missed it.

Good day so far.

Really? I liked that game.
Same, I played the crap out of the demo on Xbox 360. Let's be honest, it's CoD with Transformers, but it's still good fun.

Damn you community, bg2 would have been the first community choice I would've grabbed. Probably avadon as well.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's more worthwhile to get BG1-2 on GOG and mod them with Trilogy. It links the two games together, makes BG1 run with BG2's engine, and is an overall better product. The extras on the EE are pitiful and not very well regarded at all.

A fellow FF9 lover! Yeah, I far prefer 9 to 7 and 8. Great game (and awesome if you play it on FPse on an Android device).
FF9? You're talking about Final Fantasy 9, right? You loved it?
Man, that game was freaking awesome, right? L-U-V-'-D that game. Seriously, fuck that bitch dying in FF7. The ending of FF9 was much more emotional.

I'm reasonably sure a lot of folks bought Defy Gravity during the sale (if just for the cards) so I figured I should ask: anyone have a spare "Anti-Gravity Well" card they'd be willing to trade for a "Gravity Well" one?

PM me if you do, and we can trade steamid's.

Oh yeah!

Especially when that fucking thing comes out of nowhere and Galactuses shit up like oh btw I know you thought those other guys were the final bosses but I'm ACTUALLY the final boss and I can die in like 3 hits.

Everything about that game was so deep. Quina is totally not more annoying than Jar Jar Binks.

Steam Community still retarded as ever. Hasn't Darksider 2 and Brutal Legends been on sale more a billion times now?
Given the obvious faking of the "Community" team gimmick this sale, it wouldn't be a paranoid assumption to consider the "Community" votes to be just as forged and disingenuous, especially for those of us that have been around long enough to have seen the total results of previous votes equal more or less than 100% (notice how such results aren't reported by Valve anymore), the same game going up multiple times throughout the same sale period (supposedly people just can't get enough of "that" game, and therefor it must go on sale a third time), or the same game at first being offered for less of a discount as a Flash than it was in a previous daily only to be corrected to a deeper discount AFTER the vote has taken place (really? people voted for a game to have less of a discount?).

It's been a known fact that Valve must sign contracts with the developers as far as the allowed discount pre-sale (which is how the sale dates have been leaked in the past). Given that fact, and the additional fact that some games are offered as a Flash, but never see the same discount sale wide or as a Daily, means that if a deal is struck with a developer to offer a game at (let's say 66% off) then Valve would have to, at some point, offer that game for that discount during the sale. If the choice of what games go on sale were truly entirely up to the public, the potential for that developers game to never see the same discount as it's competition in the same category or genre would exist, and signing a contract with Valve to "maybe" put your game on sale, while you see your competitors games flourish under the spotlight when they did go on sale, is not a sound business strategy anyone actually trying to promote their game or to make money from it would agree to.

In Conclusion: It's apparent that it's all bull$#!%, but the vast majority of people will forever be as they always have been: sheep. The most powerful thing any one person can weld is the power of the vote, and where there is power, there is corruption. But hey, it's just a video game sale right? At least that type of corruption would never find it's way into anything else we vote for, right?

This message brought to you by the CAG's who have nothing better to discuss because there's no actual deals going on association. I imagine Gabe will be diving into his vault of money Scrooge McDuck style after this sale.

hope you get well soon.

Since the value of the Darksiders Franchise Pack I had in my inventory has now plummeted because of the DS sale, I decided to redeem it even though I have DS2, as the DLC a la carte during this sale is still more expensive than what I paid for the Franchise Pack . :wall:
Pretty sure that THQ and Humble Bundle killed any value your DS Franchise Pack might've had.

The sad part is I do have them on GOG...and the originals on CD. These games are like crack and I just can't stop buying them.

Been on Steam sales too... remember that one time it was the day after the sale and everyone bought it during... oh the rage.. I mean memories.
Oh, I remember that, because I was one of the people who waited till the last day and bought it for 50% off because it was obviously not going any lower. You know the rest of the story.

And I still haven't even installed it.

Use MSI Afterburner to track your frame rate and monitor your GPU load. (Works on all Nvidia cards... I have an EVGA and an ASUS.)
+1, but it should be noted that it doesn't play well with certain games. Skyrim, for example, refuses to play at all with MSI Afterburner on.

Basically, if you're using MSI Afterburner and a game isn't working for you for some reason, turn it off and see if it's the culprit.

I thought you guys should know that at the beginning of the 20th century, pink was associated with boys and blue for girls, as can be seen here.

That's why pink is winning right now. It's the manliest color.
I believe it's still the same in Japan, so this is correct. Pink is definitely winning because Valve programmed it to win today it's the manliest color.

Motion Blur/Derpth of Field as concepts are great: lets spend all these resources making the game look amazing... now let's make it additionally taxing by obscuring all of that amazing scenery!
Wow, I agree with Mooby for once. I don't mind motion blur on most games, but DoF is a joke. It's good for screenshots and that's about it. Now if the game could track what your eyes are looking at on the screen and focus on that while the rest blurred out from DoF, that would be great. Since that's not a thing, DoF means you're going to be looking at blurry things for no reason.

Spent over $10, Steam rewarded me with a Summer Foil Card. What a great system.
I got a foil too and was able to sell it for $1.95 profit. Not bad at all.

*2 months later when Josh remembers he is still the Amazon digital games rep* Gee, I wonder why this obscure DLC sold 100,000 copies.

Actually the contract they send out asks for a sale wide discount and then optionally if they want to do a deeper discount but they stated not all games will get a flash/community/daily deal and so they can't guarantee it will happen for your game. It's basically an if scenario.

I remember in the Winter sale the Cook, Serve, Delicious dev told people the sale price (for the duration of the sale) was as low as it would go. Then it went on a flash deal. Some people were mad and said he lied but he clarified that Valve did that sort of if scenario and that he just assumed his game wasn't going to get a flash deal because they never got back to him.

Also Last summer Expeditions: Conquistadors was up for a community vote at 75% off. It didn't win and it never did end up on a flash or daily either at that price, so it's not guaranteed that a game that loses a vote will show up again at that same price, though most of them seem to.

And this was before they switched to the whole developers can set their own prices thing, so I'm not sure if that has changed the way they are doing the big sales at all. But in any case it's definitely not guaranteed a particular game will get a deeper discount even if the developer okays it.

Because old potatoes are harder to carve than fresh, softer ones.

You forgot to list the scenario where three games are up for a vote and then, an hour in, one of them is replaced with another one. Assumingly it's because the original option wasn't supposed to be available at the stated price, but the maddening thing is that the new option is a superior one that can't win the vote because 80% of the voting public have already cast their ballots.

Has this happened this sale?

Last sale it happened because Capcom.

Hey guys, just got back from dinner and OH MY GOD STEAM, CAN'T YOU EVEN MAKE A HALFASSED ATTEMPT TO WRITE AN ALGORITHM THAT WILL PRETEND TO DISGUISE THESE TEAM POINTS AS LEGITIMATE?
Seriously... We were complaining immediately that it was unfair and purple would continue to win everyday, and that would have annoyed everyone too, so it's actually nice that everyone gets to "win", but this means the points you contribute literally mean nothing. Everyone could stop crafting right now and the meters would still continue to rise and the outcome would be the same.

I guess I should know better, but I'm actually a little surprised that Valve would blatantly lie about a system like that.

Wow "XRebirth 2.0" ---> a 31 Metacritic rating and a 6 user score.

Ouch. :whistle2:|
MysterD replied to you already, but yeah. X games usually take time to get patched into a playable state. They're MASSIVE games, so it's understandable somewhat (though it's still pretty uncool for early buyers).

That said, Steam reviews seem to be saying that the last few patches have been good and the game is playable now, so if you're big X fan it might still be worth it to jump in now.

Once upon a time I had my eye on Nether. And I could vote for it in the Community Vote to make it $3.00.

But a user score of 10 changes things....
I'm actually surprised by that. Must be some sort of controversy.
Same here... It's another WarZ type of game, so I can understand it getting some hate, but I enjoyed what I played of it. It's interesting and doesn't deserve that rating at all.

Not to mention I only played it when it was buggier and in early access awhile ago, and it's had more added and runs better now... so idk.

Was tempted to grab Lost Planet 3 since the multiplayer in One was incredibly fun back in the day but 5 minutes of Youtube'ing shows it looks like a horrible Gears of War clone.
Yes, this! LP1's multiplayer was fan-fucking-tastic, besides the "roll-shoot-roll-shoot" dance that usually happened at close range. Akrid hunter remains one of my all time favorite multiplayer game modes.

Is Titan Quest Gold worth $4?
Yes. It's the best ARPG of all time in my opinion (yes, suck it Diablo).

Anyone try the Free-to-Play Ascend: Hand of Kul?

I never tried it on Xbox. Wondering what it plays like on Steam...
I tried it on Xbox. It's not really that good. Although the concept of having townsfolk worship you and help you defeat other Gods is kinda neat, it makes for a lot of hectic battles. F2P also sucks because of how many microtransactions there are. Kingdoms of Amalur is much better.

Also, I really hate Humble. Those fucktards have no idea what they're doing, with their hugely overpriced "charity" bundles and the way they change their system every so often to prevent piracy, or whatever they're attempting to prevent. My account has an inactive e-mail associated with my 79 purchased bundles. But can I change the e-mail? No, because I need to VERIFY MY BROWSER to do anything to my account. And how do I do that? By receiving a code in my inactive e-mail. I fucking asked Humble Support back in December if they could change my account e-mail to an active address, and gave them all of my information, and they just sat in their cubicles watching TMZ and flinging fecal matter around like a Jackson Pollack painting. I've sent one e-mail a month to them since December--my e-mail about not being able to activate RPG Maker VX Ace because I couldn't verify my fucking browser was exceptionally pissy--and there has been zero progress made to a solution.

I mean I get Affirmative Action, but hiring the maggot-brained zombies from Shaun of the Dead to do customer service seems like a bad idea.

Life is like a hurricane here in Steam Land

Race cars, sim games with aeroplanes, its a fucked sale

Might solve the team mysteries

Or change backlog misery

Tales of do-bad and good

Also, I'm a little buzzed, and I think that took me over 10 minutes to come up with.

y u not overclock that to 140 Mhz?
P133 would usually OC 166 MHz, sometimes only 150.

Source: I OC'd a lot of P120 & P133 chips back in the day.

I even had a BIOS that was pirated!

+1, but it should be noted that it doesn't play well with certain games. Skyrim, for example, refuses to play at all with MSI Afterburner on.

Weird, I've never run into that. I have a couple games that I just can't get MSI's overlay to work on (yes, I know and regularly use the modified D3D setting for all my SweetFX'd games)

* Mechromancer - Unique gameplay, a bit easier, best for lower-level co-op
I'd just like to say (as a Gaige player) it's not completely true that she's easier to use.

Gearbox purposely created her to go to both sides of the spectrum, one being a bit of a "girlfriend mode" where bullets ricochet and missing isn't the worst thing in the world, while the other is a very odd hardcore mode that creates a counter as you expend ammo, making your damage skyrocket and your accuracy plummet. This second skill tree can be a bit tricky, since it forces you to be an up close and personal run and gunner when you accuracy is a total joke, but makes you hit extremely hard. There are also abilities that give you different boosts depending on how high your counter is and when you choose to "use" some of these points.

Gaige is my favorite BL2 character, and I'd strongly recommend her DLC to anyone. Not to argue, just offering a different opinion.

Oh no you don't. You have to read all the comments
I'm not sure if I'm proud or ashamed to say that I have.

Titanquest was great.. about 6-8 years ago. Does it really hold up nowadays? I LOVED it back in the day, but there are a lot of games I can't go back and play anymore because it just irks me.
I think it holds up great even today. No complaints about the graphics at all. Well optimized too.

Also (see the image below) the fact that it allows you to zoom in and still looks pretty damn good is awesome. Not many ARPGs let you do that.

It's isometric, at least of what I remember of it (been awhile since I played, should probably get on that).
Like others said, it's isometric, but you CAN play it from a TPS perspective (though the game play is still that of a clicky ARPG).

Observe:

Man, nobody's offering it in the trade thread, either. I might have to bite the bullet and actually pay steambux for this.

Yeah, I've got a Gaige up around level 70. The Mech is wonderfully fun, and the mechanics of the Anarchy stacks are really innovative as far as first-person shooters are concerned. What you say is true, but she's largely a "survive" character because of Deathtrap and his ability to distract the enemy. You could argue the same thing with Axton's deployable.

She's very powerful -- especially with the right build and equipment -- and a decent pick for someone that's not the most skilled shooter in the world.

That's all I really meant when I said she's "easier" and I was trying to avoid a few paragraphs of explanations to go with each thought. :)

So... 16 hours of Dynasty Warriors 8 later, that's going in the dangerous timesuck pile with Civ and Pinball.  At least I can attempt to rationalize getting my money's worth out of it since I've only made it through a fraction of the content thus far.  By all rights the game should be a hideously repetitive mess, but there's something zen-like just mowing down the hordes similar to how Euro Truck Simulator 2 should be mind-numbingly awful but somehow transcends what it is on paper and you drive the speed-limit on some European bypass listening to a random French one-hit wonder radio station with a sense of perfect calm.

Also wow, Valve really aren't even trying to pretend with the Summer Adventure stuff are they?  Everyone within 200 points except pink which is 260,000 points higher.  That's not at all suspicious in the least, not even considering pink's single day highest total was only like 403k on day 1.  Ah well, extra card for me, but as stated by others, it really does make you wonder just how bs the community votes were.  At least with the 4 vs. 4 even if your pick isn't chosen there's still some chance there's something you might like in the other pack, or given the trend of the sale nothing you want in either pack so... yeah...

Nah, its rigged, you think those people are spending like 20-30 bucks to be on the winning team to  be one of the 30 in 500k+ to win just 3 games ?

lol

That's around what I got for mine. My simpleton mind get's confused with the new sell/buy interface when your card is listed as a "commodity".

You are a paranoid grump. That's ok because....

Life is like a hurricane here in Steam Land

Race cars, sim games with aeroplanes, its a fucked sale

Might solve the team mysteries

Or change backlog misery

Steam Sales, Woo-oo!

Everyday they're out there making

Steam Sales, Woo-oo!

Tales of do-bad and good

fucked Sales! Woo-oo!

There's a Bad Rats out to find you

What to do just, grab onto some...

[repeat chorus]

Not Sony Sales or Xbox pricecut, no,

Steam Sales! Woo-oo!

Also, I'm a little buzzed, and I think that took me over 10 minutes to come up with.
Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Broke my summer sale cherry, I traded 4 TF2 keys for Skyrim Legendary. So $8.86 steam wallet for the 3 DLCs, regular price $45. A bit over 80% off. I did okay.

Oh yeah and I also bought a new background for .12 http://steamcommunity.com/id/naked-snake-eyes

I think buying State of Decay a couple weeks ago may have been a mistake, this game is rough as hell. It feels pretty amateur. It makes Dead Island seem like a masterpiece.

The internet hive mind decided to rig the team competition so that every team wins twice each. So far its working remarkably well. lol.

Screw whoever the idiots were that decided blue goes last. We get screwed out of about $1 of steambux. First team got double cards when they were still 50 cents or so each and CSGO badges were cheap to craft. Now days later when it's blue's turn cards will be 20-25 cents and CSGO badges cost more. It's not even worth it to craft for the double cards now especially after Valve's 15% cut. It will be even worse the next time we are scheduled to "win".
