Yeah, changed my mind after looking back through the thread. ShyYoshi = GMina72 = jflux98.
ShyYoshi too? fuck, I gave that account a game as well (it was a Humble Bundle game so I can't see who redeemed it). I also have a sneaking suspicion flava2000 may also be another account from the same person (which, again, I also gave a game too).

Man, some people are real scumbags.

Two days straight??!?!
What are you using for downloading? DSL?

I remember the days when it took me as many as hours as it did GB's to download, back with DSL.
Doing GTA4 PC was the end of it for me - and it was time to move on + get faster connection, since those 15 GB took me approx. 15 hours to download. That was the last straw for me.

I have Comcast Blast here - and yeah, it's tons faster. IIRC, it took about 1 hr + a half or so to download FFXIII PC.
I need to get back to that game sometime.
Great, even the toaster has faster internet than me. Maybe my New Years Resolution should be to snuff it...

I have 3mbps internet. I only get somewhere between 2.6 and 2.8 though. The best I can get unless they ever move one of their stations/boxes closer to me. I'm maybe a thousand feet too far away to get 6mbps. I'm lucky to have 3 since I live out in the sticks.

We can't all live in the city where 50 mbps rains down like manna from heaven. :) Kind of a moot point though I guess since I have zero interest in living anywhere near a city.
6 Mbps... and no hope of better since I'm behind an RT (because I'm a little too far from the CO... despite the fact that I live along a main road/railroad tracks... Clearly I live too far out in the sticks... 3 miles from Facebook and Stanford.

No, I'm pretty sure it's the same person. Which is a dick move I think. People like that are the reason I don't do code drops anymore and it's just going to make it that much harder for me to trust giving out games to newer CAG members.
It's why some others have put limits like 500 posts.

Yeah, seeing him in your giveaways pushed it from "surely not" to "that's what happened."

With humble gifts you can gift-mail them to yourself first, the post the emailed link... that way you can see who redeemed it.

Yeah I know, but I hate the idea of having to do that. There are users who don't have a lot of posts or rep, or who are newer than a lot of us who genuinely want the game they ask for.

But it's what I may end up having to do in the future. I just hate the idea of people scooping up as many drops as they can or lying to get multiple games from people.

With humble gifts you can gift-mail them to yourself first, the post the emailed link... that way you can see who redeemed it.
Huh, I didn't know that. Maybe I'll do that in the future.

Time for a year end colon spreadsheet cleansing.  I'm pretty sure these are all good, but it's possible some used ones snuck in there.  Let me know which one you want and I'll PM it over.  To help prevent the jflux effect you need to have at least 300 posts.

Yeah, I know that would solve the problem. I really don't want to resort to that though, like I said there are some newer and/or lesser rep users who are on the up and up that I wouldn't mind giving games out to.
Simple solution.

Anyone wanting a game, PM them, then have them provide you with their Steam username, then send them a message on Steam with the code. That way, if someone tries to give you a random Steam account, the worst that could happen would be to make someone's day by giving them a free game. If they give you an account with no games in it or just free to play games, then you can just not give it to them as it could just be a dummy account.

I don't know. I just find it hard to believe that a CAG user named jflux98 asked for one game, and another user, who asked for a completely different game, shows as activating the game to a Steam account named JFLuX98 and it's supposed to be a bug or a coincidence. None of the other Indiegala games I gave out show that name as the one who redeemed it. And if you do a search on Steam for that user only one Steam page shows up (and it's a private profile).

No, I'm pretty sure it's the same person. Which is a dick move I think. People like that are the reason I don't do code drops anymore and it's just going to make it that much harder for me to trust giving out games to newer CAG members.
You could always report that to the moderators as it's against the rules to have multiple accounts. If it were my board, I'd IP/email ban someone for that.

Doesn't have any effect, usually. Plenty of people here make new accounts after getting banned. They'll always find a way to ban evade.

noob question but what happened to the daily deal section? Been a little while since i shopped on steam, but if i recall there used to be a daily deals section even durring sales like this. Maybe im blind but i didn't notice any this time or see a link on the front page for them. I think they had 12 hour deals every now and then, is that what they changed it to?

Because in the past regular sales usually werent worth it unless they happened to be 75% or more off. It was always best to wait for dailys

Oh yeah, I know.. I've run a pretty big board, but it does reset that person back to zero in terms of join date, post count, etc. Makes 'em easier to spot in new giveaways. Plus it's slightly annoying for the person trying to rejoin.

That's actually one of the other solutions I was thinking of. Maybe I'll try that as well, that's not a bad idea.

I'm REALLY tempted to do that. Especially since ShyYoshi already changed their name to JFeffect (yes jflux98, we can all see your new username. It updates it on the boards and on the PM of the gift link I sent to you).

But I won't...if someone else wants to, though, be my guest.

There was a daily deal section for the first 12 days of the sale. Now the final 2 days they have an encore event with the best sales from the 12 day period returning.

They've been having daily sales the last week or so. Now it's the final encore sale days.
ah, ok so there just arent any for the last few days. I guess those 12 hour sales were the dailys from the past week?

You guys could just give out games to regulars, that would solve the problem.
Yeah, usually my approach is just a judgment call. If i recognize you i'll give you the game.

Yeah, I know that would solve the problem. I really don't want to resort to that though, like I said there are some newer and/or lesser rep users who are on the up and up that I wouldn't mind giving games out to.
Meh, everybody is new at some point. If you stick with it long enough (like even a month is long enough where people will start to recognize your name) you'll get plenty of free games. Besides...there's no way of telling which new users/low reps are "on the up and up" and which ones are just in it to take a free game and stay silent til another drop gets on the board. To me if you expect people to give you things you should be willing to stay around until people get to know you. Why should I give my games that I paid for to a stranger when there's a whole board of people who post everyday? Like I said above, I typically (depending on my mood) just give games to people I recognize, and have at times in the past noted in my drop that I reserve the right to not give you a game if I have no idea who you are or you just started posting like a day ago. I prefer using a judgment call to post limit because then you can include people who contribute and are recently active in the community but don't have 300 or 500 posts or whatever. Maybe its a bit of an ass way of doing it, but it's my game that I paid for. I'm not giving it to some stranger who plans on dropping in and out of threads to vulture things.

I agree with this. If they genuinely want a game, they'll be willing to be active in the community. I don't think it's ever worth giving games to people that no one recognizes. There's too many leeches.

Time for a year end colon spreadsheet cleansing. I'm pretty sure these are all good, but it's possible some used ones snuck in there. Let me know which one you want and I'll PM it over. To help prevent the jflux effect you need to have at least 300 posts.

Yeah, usually my approach is just a judgment call. If i recognize you i'll give you the game.

Yeah, I understand where you guys are coming from and what you're saying makes plenty of sense.

I still can't bring myself to only give out to regulars though, I like to leave at least a little bit for newer members or members who don't post as often. I will have to be a lot more careful when handing out games to newer members from now on though.

I'm still somehow on the fence regarding Endless Legend and Dungeon of the Endless. Is it worth plunking in the money for?
The games are high quality, if that's what you're asking Endless Legend has gotten good reviews (I've read a number of publications call it their strategy of the year, with RPS naming it their overall GOTY). 4x strategy games also tend to have a lot of replay value, so 17.50 for a high quality game with a lot of potential play hours is worth it from an objective perspective. Whether it's worth it to you is another question. If you plan on playing it a lot right away go for it, but it'll probably be 7.50 or less by this time next year.

So it'll be at a lower price you predict? Hm, how intriguing. What of Dungeon of the Endless?

You could always report that to the moderators as it's against the rules to have multiple accounts. If it were my board, I'd IP/email ban someone for that.

I don't think the mods care. Borderland's last account was trade banned, but the mods haven't bothered to do anything about his current account.

Guess who lurked that.... :shame:

I'm quite interested in Dungeon of the Endless, but i'm holding off.

I'm using how they've treated Endless Space as a guide.   They don't look to be in any hurry to bundle, (no bundle after two years)  but do seem to be willing to do a big price cut after a while. (80 percent off now)

Also, they have a pack that has all three games with all the bells and whistles.  It's only 50 percent off right now, but will be a very nice pickup whenever it gets to 75 percent one day.

Well, when you and Pas put it that way, I'll buy them at a later date then. Thanks to you two for saving me 32 bucks
