Non-steelbook:
Online Item #: 17098547
Store Item Number (DPCI): 058-32-0593

http://www.target.com/p/american-sniper-2-discs-includes-digital-copy-ultraviolet-blu-ray-dvd-w/-/A-17098547

Steelbook:
Online Item #: 17163077
Store Item Number (DPCI): 058-32-0594

Different Online Item #s and in-store DPCI #s. So, unless some worker grabbed the wrong one when they were packing up a box, it should be the steelbook that shows up. That is assuming the original order that was placed was for the steelbook and not the original version.

Mine won't be here until Thursday.

My Target had 11 American Sniper SBs right before noon.  Makes me wonder if they overestimated demand for this and/or if people are just put off by the $25 price.  I want to see the movie and it would be a blind buy for me but I left it on the shelf at $25.  If it ends up dropping to $20 next week and it's still there, I'll get one.

I think the $25 price turned a lot of people off. I ended up getting it, since it's such a good movie, but I was seriously considering passing on price alone.

Shiloh, IL Target had 13 on the front shelves by the cash registers when I went tonight at 6 pm. Didn't see if there were any in electronics.

Witcher SB came in a bubble mailer from Best Buy and had a lovely dent. Warning to anyone expecting theirs today. Thankfully I live 5 minutes from a BB and they were great about exchanging. Picked up an apes SB while I was there.

I took some better pictures of the steelbooks at BBY when I went to pick up the Witcher. Prices should be more visible now.

Very surprising to see non-BB exclusives in there, like Wolf of Wall Street (Target) and Anchorman 2 (Wal-Mart).

There are some ones there that I wasn't aware of, like Patton, Tora! Tora! Tora! and MASH.

EDIT:

Found the MASH and Patton metalpacks, plus one for Commando:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=metalpack&_dyncharset=UTF-8&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

This search also worked to bring up most of them, searching for "(Only @ Best Buy)", which may bring up other stuff besides the metalpack/steelbooks:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=%28Only%20%40%20Best%20Buy%29&_dyncharset=UTF-8&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=format_facet%3DFormat~Blu-ray%20Disc^format_facet%3DFormat~Blu-ray%203D&list=n&iht=y&usc=All%20Categories&ks=960&keys=keys&seeAll=

A whole bunch of "With Movie Money" movies, releases on 05/17/15.

EDI #2:

Alien, Rocky, Transporter, Spaceballs, Wargames, Get Shorty, I: Robot, Independence Day, Office Space, Hot Tub Time Machine, Usual Suspects, Boondock Saints, Robocop (1984), Predator, Machete, Napoleon Dynamite, Fargo.

Found a BB-exclusive Chappie release, on 06/16/15:

Also, a BB-exclusive Kingsman: Secret Service release, on 06/09/15:

More movies with "Only @ Best Buy" monikers, release dates staring @ 06/09/15:

Casper, Harry & The Hendersons, Australia, Once, Notorious, Speed, Rain Man, Jeepers Creepers, Little / Sunshine (Little Miss Sunshine?), Thelma & Louise, City Slickers, Flight / Phoenix (Flight Of The Phoenix?). Yeah, I think the $25 price is turning everybody off. At least I know it does with my purchasing habits. I'll buy $20 steelbooks day1 at Target if it's a movie I want to at least see once, if not own. Otherwise it's a $10-12 max because I buy so many and they always get to that price.

But I did cave and buy American Sniper for $25 because of the movie's notoriety, this is probably the only way to be able to get it, and it's not getting any cheaper.

I think most of us are only semi-hardcore (casual?) steelbook collectors. The price has gotta be right.

The Mad Max is new, an oddly enough it's not exactly a metalpak.
It's a new/modified version of the Viva Metalbox, which some may remember BBY and Disney used to replace steelbooks for awhile until Steelbook patent law suited them out of existence (until now??)

I've been looking at those BB steelbooks for quite awhile and now they are finally $10 which is awesome.

I feel so dirty when I find myself running to Best Buy twice in two days.  Or three times in a week.

TMNT at BB is a reprint. The new version has a matte finish and isn't embossed. I did find an embossed copy in store today so there are some in the wild. No mention of the turtle masks though.

So I went to Best Buy today to buy some of those steelbooks.  This is what happened.

I didn't even snag them all. I put back a couple of the weaker box arts like Superbad, The Raid: Redemption, and The Wolf of Wall Street.  $172 dollars later and I have 16 new steelbooks, but only four movies that I didn't already own.   It might be time to re-evaluate my life choices.

anyone looking to buy a stack of new standard case blu rays of most these movies (12 or so) for like $50-60?

Also the Patton, Commando, Tora Tora Tora, and a couple of the others listed as "Metalpaks" on Best Buy's site.  But they actually have flat steelbook spines!  They are not hinged Metalpaks like the crappy looking boxes for X-men series.  Apparently it's a MetalBox or an Ironpak(like Disney used to use) not a FuturePak or a Metalpak.

I'm reading further information about them now so see if there's a definitive title for this type of box.

Life choices? Your a CAG, we lack the concept of free will when it comes to these things.

You see, this will be my problem as well, which is one of the reasons I haven't stepped into a Best Buy since the prices went down. I just wouldn't know where to stop lol, and I simply can't afford buying a ton of them right now. I'm not sure if the end date of the sale has been announced yet but my guess would be just after Father's Day and if that's the case, it gives me a little more time to think about which to buy and narrow my choices.

From blu-ray.com, it looks like these are modified MetalBox cases. The theory is that by going with metal hinges on the spine, they've differentiated themselves enough from the SteelBook patents.

Here's a nice summary: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=10835177&postcount=124

and of course the spaceballs metal pak is out. I never even knew it was out. And of course all on ebay at double the price... gues sI will stick with my reg blu for now.

Space Balls was the only empty space on the shelves at Best Buy and I was there the day they set up the display (according to the time stamp on the shelf price tags)

The pricing on the tags showed that the 9.99 prices should hold until June 27th. As for Spaceballs, my store had a crapload of them. I can get one for anyone for cost + shipping. Let me know.

Yeah I went to two Best Buy's yesterday and saw Spaceballs at both and like bill said the sale is until 6/27.

I had a gift card so I ended up getting Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Terminator 2. I already own both on regular blu ray but couldn't resist having steel versions. Will probably go back for a few more before the sale ends.

I already have the anniversary edition blu Ray of space balls. I am still undecided on getting this one. How is the quality of the case ?
I wouldn't mind having Stripes steelbook .

IF any of you are pre-order the SpongeBob SquarePants Steelbook from GoHasting there's a free shipping coupon code use  code  earlybird all caps

I still can't believe GoHastings of all places got a steelbook exclusive. If this included 3D I would be all over it. Since it doesn't I will be passing on the movie. Just a warning, if you order from their website they may send it in a polybag, which would be potentially very damaging to a steelbook.

Only once have I had a steelbook arrive damaged from a poly/bubble mailer. And that was from Gamestop. They're not as fragile as everyone makes them out to be.

Though yes, if you can avoid having it shipped that way you should.

There's two new Target Cartweel App Coupons for Indiana Jones Raiders of the lost ark Metal Pak for 10% off and true detective Steelbook for 15% off both expire 06/06/15
